Yeah, I don't like when oyinbos refer to themselves as South African. I don't care how many generations have been in that country.
Kinda funny how Africans who migrated to America recently and had the privilege of being granted permanent American citizenship wanna call themselves American but will have a problem with White South Africans (who by the way been here for centuries) calling themselves South Africans.

Does your logic also apply to African Americans in America?

It always hits hard closer to home. I also select what I follow over here. Zuma and Trump had similar antics but I could stomach Trump news coz he was further away.
The bolded is exactly why I prefer CNN over eNCA and SABC.

Don't know the guy embarassed. grin American crime stories aren't my thing. Even here, I've lost track of these high profile GBV killings. I don't know who killed who. I'm a bad journalist dude cry grin But like I said, I do other things within the industry.
Well fair enough,no judgement. If there's one thing I lose track in is our local politics.Sometimes I purposely avoid them for the sake of peace of my mind.

Nope. His pics are in black and white dude, plus I don't watch crime and action TV. So if they've made films about him the odds are I wouldn't even consider watching.

But perhaps I should know if it was a big news story.
He's one of the most interesting serial killers in history, and you being a journalism guy I quickly assumed you might know about him...my bad! wink

Okay.Do you know Jeffery Dharma?

grin grin The colourful life of media people. grin

My first option was Medicine and BA Media and Political Studies as my second option on my university application form. Unrelated I know. So I failed maths in matric and I was not in the mood to supplement it, so BA it was.

Criminal Law - so will u defend obvious tsotsis?
Well what matters is that you enjoy your current profession smiley

Eish that's a tough one my guy but such is the sadistic world we live in? If someone like Ted Bundy had a lawyer why shouldn't I represent someone? grin

Wow dude, your choices are impressive. You gonna be a fun lawyer, not stuck up and haven't dropped hints before. Most people in law drop hints - intentionally grin Are u doing contract law yet and passing it? I hear it's the worst. grin

Sorry bout your maths, I also did bad at it and never became the psychiatrist I was destined to be embarassed grin
Maybe I'll start dropping hints when I get to the finishing line grin I'm doing Criminal Law,I have heard the same about contract law.

Maths is such a pain in the ass for many people. You wanted to be a psychiatrist? You are full of surprises lol

Eish, I often felt like we were going the Africa route during the Zuma years when journalists were called all sorts of names, intimidated and monitored by State Security, and there were attempts to capture the SABC through Hlaudi.

So what are u into? If I had to guess I'd say either something in music or graphic design. Am I right, or am I right? grin
I remember they wanted to stop journalists from shooting live protests in the country.

I'm studying Law - not really my favourite profession though. My heart is into astro physics,I've always been intrigued by the cosmos.Too bad I kinda suck at mathematics undecided

Lol music is just something I love,I don't even desire being in that industry.

War journalism grin, that was my dream while I was young and naive still studying. But the journalism industry (even media industry) is very small in SA so you need to hustle outside of it. So sometimes it's not coz we working on our own terms. Sad really.
I wish you went ahead with it cheesy I would have liked the entertaing stories how many times you escaped death grin grin

Yeah SA media is pretty much dog-eat-dog valley.Nontheless I think we still have the best media in the continent. In other countries they only have one government controlled channel so freedom of press is hardly practiced undecided

Lol grin grin, yeah let's just give u the credit. But I know about oxymorons and paradoxes but I always have to look it up and check first before I declare things as such. You on the other hand did that automatically cool grin

I'm a freelancer, so I do doccies or current affairs. I find it hard to chase stories and daily deadlines coz I'm not mamghobozi.
LMAO.

That sounds like the best side of journalism - working on your own terms

I thought you were like Christine Amanpour - reporting where bullets fly at the speed of sound. grin

About the news thing, maybe that's why I can't survive in the newsroom. So I take the road less travelled.

The Long Statues of Freedom (Day 5, 11:00)

While snapping away in Sandton, no selfie beats the one with the global icon Nelson Mandela in the background. And that's a fact!

'Madiba' might have left this world in 2013 but behind remained many bronze statues in his honour scattered all over the globe - from the grounds of Parliament in the United Kingdom to the United Nations in New York, and even in Palestine.

But the tallest of them all can only be found in Sandton and also in Pretoria, the nearby capital city of South Africa. How lucky are you?!

In 'Sandton Square' you can pose at the base of the dancing Mandela - and less than an hour away at the 'Union Buildings' in Pretoria you'll find the gigantic embracing Madiba, which was unveiled a day after the statesman was buried.

So cheers to the iconic tall statues of freedom, dedicated to a man who took a long walk to freedom.

AMANDLA!
Grand closing smiley

Man I love SA.

Yoh, the jealous cousins thing, I haven't noticed it with my cousins but I know some of them don't get along but I never get involved. Although I'm in the news business, I'm actually not very nosy - can u believe? grin

Askies maan, that you've got some nasty cousins, or where u just being general?
It's a divine obligation grin

I was speaking both in a general sense and personal experience but if I try to unfold it here it's gonna be a dictionary length LoL grin for the most part we are civil towards one another though.

News guy who's not nosy? That's an oxymoron right there grin
