jayriginal: If this is true, there's no better case than for having a legal section than your first point. Nigeria has no strengthened legal system. Police and the military operate with impunity violating fundamental Human Rights and the population accepts it as normal. They pay bail money without knowing their rights and you say there is no need for a legal section? We can have a sexuality section but a legal section is not necessary?
Property owners take advantage of people who don't know their rights and we don't need a legal section?
I'm not sure how this makes sense or what point it's supposed to illustrate. At best it shows your limited understanding of the operation of the law. Cases are won by proving with evidence and backing up your position with the law. There is never a "draw" in a case. If two lawyers feel they have proof, they go to court to establish it and the judge listens to both and gives a decision one way or the other. If all lawyers agreed there would be no need for court appearances. Besides there are little instances of procedure and technicalities that are not known by the layman.
We have a pet section and a sexuality section but somehow we don't need a legal section?
Doctors, mechanics, Engineers, etc only understand their professions to a certain degree. What is clear however is that they understand it better than the layman. No point here. We have a dating and meet up section, a pet section, a sexuality section but there's no need for a legal section?
In medicine, there's something called a second opinion. Contradictory assurances are not unheard of. Try giving your car to two mechanics and watch them contradict themselves. Law is application, and that's what the court is for: to settle issues of the law. If all lawyers agreed with each other there would be no need to go to court. You might as well settle issues in the beer parlour or family meeting. No need for judges either.
We have the whole nairaland and no legal section?
I'm not sure what you think but the legal section isn't for soliciting for clients. It's for people to come ask questions about legal issues pertaining to them and to get them solved. For instance, how many times have we seen on front page "look what I found in an unopened bottle of coke/malt/beer" etc. Go to the property section and look at people who don't know what to do to prevent being scammed by land vendors. Look at the auto section and see people being scammed by Cotonou car agents. The list goes on.
Also lawyers could hang out in the legal section and discuss their cases , seek and share advice. In the end, nairalanders would benefit.
When you come here all small minded talking about legalese, I wonder what you're on about. DeepSight, Enigma, Kay17 are all lawyers on this section. They have different styles of expressing themselves but I cannot remember anytime any sort of legalese came up in discussions. Caveats are important when arguing against people who are great at building strawmen. Caveats don't count as legalese. Sir, Thank you for pointing out the incompleteness of my arguments. I was in a haste and just pointed out simple facts showing how confusing law can be. Fleshing out my original 4 points and rebutting your arguments;1) It is a fact that most people do not understand the law. The issue here is that law is a profession and therefore legal advice should come from a professionally qualified lawyer. Given the corrupt and 419 nature of scammers on nairaland, any fool can claim to be a lawyer and mislead any of those 90% of people that do not know the law. Are you going to beg Seun to verify everyone that gives legal advice? How do you ascertain who is a qualified lawyer on an anonymous forum 2) It is a fact that no lawyer can guarantee 100% chance of winning in most cases. What you need to understand is that technicalities and loopholes are many in law- too many for not only laymen but lawyers as well. That is why you see lawyers doing weeks of research before a big case. Lawyers in the UK do not do "internet consultation". You have to go to their offices and discuss the details of your case. Explaining your case well to your lawyer is important to winning in court. 3) Yes, lawyers only know the law up to a certain degree. A lesser degree than doctors know medicine. The law can change on a daily basis. Every judge's decision is a potential precedent for another case. States, counties and countries pass laws at different times. Medicine, accounting etc other professions are not as volatile. 4) Second opinions in medicine mostly end up getting similar conclusions because doctors universally understand the human body in the same way. The same in Accounting- there are international standards that all chartered accountants know. Law is another thing entirely- A case can be won or dismissed on numerous grounds. It takes only one technicality to get away with certain crimes. It is better to go to the office of your lawyer and explain your case. ========================================================= There are so many disadvantages to having a legal section on nairaland 1) Legal advice should be only given by qualified lawyers. How do we verify qualified lawyers? 2) Law in Nigeria is in shambles. We dont even keep records of many decisions by judges. Since you are a lawyer in Nigeria, please tell me how many court records or transcripts do you have from the state high courts knowing that a judge's decision in a court can set precedence for future court cases. 3) Trolling. Family cases, property cases etc should normally be kept private. Imagine someone seriously trying to get his house in order through the court and some fool comes to start laughing because a man has lost some of his assets. ================================================= If you want to talk about human rights. Lets have a human rights section. A legal section is dangerous. |

fedex01: I am just presenting stats and facts, why are you so hyper?
It is christianity that is a dead, defeated, destroyed thing in the Europe, U.S, and Latin Americans with no respect---a humiliated, defeated relic of the past and nobody cares about it. No one really cares about it or its teachings and sex outside of marriage, hedonism, living together without marriage, revealing clothes/bikinis, not-going to church, greed etc is mainstream culture of these lands. It has been proven by scientific studies as well that Christianity is a dead, defeated thing in majority of the "christian" world. Everybody threw christianity out of their society and countries are based on godless non-christian laws where homosexuality is legal, sex before marriage is legal, children are born out of wedlock, there is no christian values in education system, divorce is rampant, drugs are legal, and so on.
Islam on the other hand is thriving globally--even in Western world.
I don't write frustrating paragraphs like you. I back all of my claims with data, evidence, and credible sources. Look at post#6 of this thread to see how I've demonstrated by points by using credible data from world organizations such as PEW, Gallop, and so on.
And regarding your point of migrants--there are MILLIONS of Muslims already living in West--why haven't they left Islam til now? LOL 1) Your data itself shows that Islam won't catch up with christianity in 2050 despite its quick growth 2) You are right, christianity is losing ground in Europe. But so also is Islam. The issue here is that increase in muslim immigrants from Asia and the middle east makes it seem as if Islam is growing in Europe. 3) Punishment for apostacy in some muslim societies around the world make it difficult to estimate the true number of people that leave islam. |
Christianity Etc › Re: 2015 Statistics Regarding Religion Growth In Sub-saharan Africa by JackBizzle: 5:51am On Jan 12, 2016 |
fedex01: Most credible statistical analysis by the best independent demographic organization of the United States (and the world) reveals that Islam is the fastest growing religious force not only in the world, but it is also the fastest growing religious force in sub-Saharan Africa as well (Mashallah!).
Moreover, the data reveals that the notions of mass Muslims conversions to Christianity or mass Christian conversions to Islam are myths and non-existent. The conversions account for only 0.3% of the total religious growth in the region (including both Christianity and Islam). So that puts to rest the idiotic myths of pastors and imams about conversions.
Very detailed and authentic report by PEW once again! Kudos to such a brilliant organization for doing its job better than everybody in the world. PEW is known as the "Fact Tank" in the United States. Hopefully we have such good organizations in Nigeria as well. It is growing at a rate at which it would not catch up with christianity in 40 years!!! |

#givingattentiontoJackBizzleMode #sofondoftrollingengineers Engineer? Bwahaha. Law is a profession. A legal section on any Nigerian forum will cause serious problems given that 1) 90% of people do not understand the law 2) The lawyers themselves can never guarantee a 100% chance of winning most cases 3) The lawyers themselves only understand the law to a certain degree 4) Two lawyers trying to secure a client can give contradictory assurances on a case |

Shouldn't an oil producing country have its own publicly run refinery so that its oil won't be held to ransom by a greedy private refinery. Mintayo: I was expecting this from you, I am sure your tone and your conscience will say something else if Nigeria is rule by sharia law (God forbids )when people will be killed and maimed for different reasons instead of showing them the way of repentance through Jesus Christ the Lord. Sharia is Islamic and the Quran supports it, but it's okay if you deny it now! Jesus said all power and authority has been given to him - I am sure true Muslims does not know that! Then true Muslims need to identify the Jesus they know because Satan also disguises as an agent of darkness. Jesus preaches and brings love, peace and life. So far true Muslims have really failed in that area! Rilwayne001 is a confirmed taquiyah master. He is acting like he doesnt know the hadiths used by conservative clerics to justify heavy punishments for blasphemy and apostacy.
