Hello everyone!
Do you remember I planned to read through the Bible this year? Well, I got bogged down in Leviticus and early Numbers but I'm back now and working hard to meet the goal.

Yesterday I read this disturbing passage in Numbers 31. After the Midianite women seduced the Israelites and they started worshipping their idols, God sent a plague that killed thousands of people until Phineas, the son of Aaron, killed one of the men and women while they were having sex.

Later on, God, through Moses, commanded the Israelites to kill everybody in Midian. Utterly destroy them. But the Israelites kept some women and children alive. When they got back to the camp, Moses was angry. He made them kill all the male children and the women who were not virgins. They kept the women who were virgins for themselves, and some were given to the Lord.

So these are my questions;
1. Wasn't Moses somehow related to the Midianites? His father-in-law Jethro was a Midianite. His wife Zipporah was a Midianite. Didn't he have family there he cared about when giving the instruction to totally wipe them out? In fact, the Bible mentions his brother-in-law Hoban in Numbers 10:29. Moses begged him to stay with them, but he decided to return to Midian to stay with his family. Was he killed too? That's wild to me.

2. I understand why God would ask them to wipe out the entire tribe and all, and I even get why they had to kill the male children too. But why did they have to share the female virgins amongst themselves? In fact, in Numbers 31:28-40, it talked about the Lord's share of which included 32 virgin girls. I thought only Levites were permitted to serve in the temple (correct me if I'm wrong) so why ?

3. I'm not comfortable with the whole genocide and all. I get it, but it's disturbing. Or maybe I'm just reading an ancient book with my 21st century mind. But then people would say the word of God remains constant. So how is it OK for the Israelites to own slaves, and even commit genocide back in the BC era and it's an abomination in the 21st century?

I'm not an atheist. I believe God is good. I'm just trying to understand. Thank you very much for your time.

The Bible is a fictional book. Don't worry yourself about those tales by moonlight. It won't make sense. There are worse stories there that are idiotic

A Christian would be sick and have a life threatening case and go to the hospital. When he has been healed he'll thank god and his pastor and get angry when the doctor wants his payment. They would say its their god that created science and medicine. So why don't your god make the medicine free so that you can be healed free of charge?

Even Jesus didn't heal everyone because your healing is based on your faith. If you read your bible, live righteously, pray and believe, you can get healed without visiting any pastor.

Besides, healing comes in many ways and God isn't against medical treatment, that was why he gave us knowledge to treat most ailments, so this is a miracle for a lot of people.

Someone left whatever s/he was doing, took his/her bath, entered bus in this costly transport fares, went to a far away church, stayed all through the service, walked up to the aisle, and yet you say s/he has no faith? Even Jesus said if your faith is as small as a mustard seed, that you are healed.

Why spend all this money when they can simply tell them to have faith and heal them of all those infirmities? Less stress on the patients and docs, less time wasted, improved prognosis (cos some of the surgeries may work), less money spent by church(most importantly)

i clearly said that you can't compare Harry Potter to folks that drink water or worship God or gods on a given frame. The numbers can't compare. Billions of people drink water or some refreshing drink every day, and they have been doing this for thousands of years. Same goes for worship, asides from the popular Billions of people that express worship every other Sunday and Friday, billions of people have indulged in worship activities for thousands of years and WILL continue to. You can't compare such "crave" to Harry Potter that many people just read or watched less than 5 times and that was all. I have read comments from all sides. These are strong issues with strong points from all sides. All sides are correct and backed the points up with scriptural texts.

MY TAKE
These are the issues and these reasons why they are difficult.
1. Is god all powerful?
2. Is god all present?
3. Is god all knowing?

The Obvious answers to these questions are "if you call a person God or the supreme god, they he should have all these three criteria." That is the obvious answer.

But there are some questions that begs answers.
1. If God is all powerful, can't he just forgive the devil and move on or forgive everybody and move on or control everybody's (men's) minds to do all that he want and there will be no sin?
The question above shows that there are things God cannot do because he cannot contradict himself. So, one way or another, though he is all powerful, he can't just do anything.

2. If God is all present, and we see the lake of fire as either a place of eternal destruction or a place of eternal separation from God, it means the presence of God is not in the lake of fire, those people do not have the presence of God with them. That shows that if the presence of God is not in the lake of fire, then he is not everywhere literally.

3. If God is all knowing, does that mean he knows those who will be saved and those who will not? If yes, why do we preach or tell people to repent or come to Christ since whatever decision they make does not change anything since their future had been known already by God. What is the essence of freewill then. That means, if God has given everyone the freewill to choose, does that not mean that God has left men to make decisions and face the aftermath without him robotting them?

MY SUBMISSION
1. It is true that our God can be present wherever he chooses, but he also have that power to restrict himself from being in where he chooses not to. We can't deny him if that power or choice to choose. Can we?

2. God is all powerful, but he can't be tempted to do evil or act unjustly. His powers though all powerful but it is restricted to his nature as a just and holy good to ONLY do good and justice.

3. It is true that God is all knowing ONLY TO WHAT HE CHOOSES TO KNOW. He alone can restrict himself from knowing what he chooses not to know or intentionally forget those he chooses to forget. From scriptures we know that something catches God by surprise because he chooses OF HIS OWN ACCORD not to interfere with somethings.

RESOLUTION
1. God is all powerful BUT HIS POWER IS RESTRICTED TO DOING GOOD AND JUST.
2. God is all knowing BUT HIS KNOWLEDGE IS RESTRICTED TO HIS CHOICE AND WILL.
3. God is all present BUT HIS PRESENCE IS RESTRICTED TO HIS OWN CHOICE AND WILL.

The story of Job was a deeply spiritual one. GOD was about to elevate him so he had to be purified by extreme suffering and loss. Unknown to many, It was an Initiation experience.

God only pay attention to those who are doing things pleasing to Him not all kinds of people so the Psalmist is talking about how God fixed His mind on those having faith in Him but when it comes to people who don't believe in God it's angels that are reporting to God what such ones are doing {Genesis 18:20-21} and as for evildoers God doesn't like looking at what they are doing because His eyes are too pure!
