I already replied you on the United thread na. . . .

U will see more theatrics at the mundial.
Any competition having Eboue, Ronaldo, Gerrard, Messi, Busquets and Lucio will be dramatic. grin cheesy
No theatrical list is complete without Drogba cheesy. what players besides the obvious are you banking on to shine in SA

This is where we disagree. . . . .
Dayokanu isn't talking about the cynical fouls here. . . . .He is talking about the art of tackling back in the days.
Players like Sammer, Gentile, Colovatti, Baresi, etc all made names with their no nonsense approach. We even have our own Omokaro and Iroha in Nigeria. How can you not like the honest way these players conducted themselves on the pitch?

Even when they were SENT OFF for the cynical fouls, they never bitched about it or filed an appeal for the decision to be overturned.
Their style of play was HONEST. . . . .
I admire HONESTY. Better than what Busquets did at Nou Camp covering his face and peeping through his fingers or the disgraceful dramatics of Eboue or even the more appalling theatrics of Leo Messi and Asier Del Horno at Stamford Bridge. grin grin grin
Now I can respect that. I misunderstood your initial argument . to be honest, I despise the bitchasness tendencies of modern players as well.

I can imagine CR7 crying and mourning to the ref about his broken fingernails.

I just cant but marvel at guys comment when they dont have complete info on the issues at hand.ANICHEBE picked a knock on saturday training and that was why he couldnt play on sunday.even LB would love to take the guy but said his too prone to injuries. we all know IK uche is still match rusty and so will be a minus one.rather than kill the team, pls pray for their success coz wen they mis the chemistry we all suffer the heart-ache, we all suffer it.UP EAGLES AND UP NAIJA.
Going by largerback's reasoning for dropping IK and anichebe, mikel should have been omitted from the list as well since he is still suffering from injury and

definitely match rusty just like IK uche and Anichebe . whatever happened to consistency in decision making

The point is that it is a contact Sport and tackles are part of the game

The fact that players were tougher back then still doesn't justify the uncivilized approach to footie, does it ?. there are/is always a better approach to

achieving the same result. "players don't have to tackle excessively hard or cynically to win the ball". as a footie fan, ugly side of the game is not

particularly appealing to me. If want to see animalistic behaviors, there is always a zoo downtown.

I disagree. . . . .
Players didn't moan to the referee then when they were kicked and there were less career-threatening injuries back in the days.
It seems humans have gone softer. . . . . .Players don't dive back in the days. A tackle is a tackle - get up and get on with it. It's a CONTACT sports.
The fact that players were tougher back then still doesn't justify the uncivilized approach to footie, does it ?. there are/is always a better approach to

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Arsenal Fan Thread: For Gunners Only by jalether(m): 6:42pm On Jun 01, 2010
While I agree that modern football has been watered down, there is nothing remarkable or impressive about hard crunching/carrier threatening tackles of the

60's, 70's and 80's neither. there is a reason why it's called footie and not "zootie" . skills, excitement, passion and unity is the essence of footie and not the

animalisitic approach of players such as Graeme souness, Romeo Benetti, roy keane et al.

Jalether,
i dont need to pray for Saudi owners cos Arsenal are very profitable/self-sustainable. Only RUBBISH CLUBS like Chelsea, Man City, Accrington Stanley, Havant & Waterlooville etc pray for blood money to come to their rescue. cheesy
And what is the end product of this "profitability". let me guess, 6 years of trophylessness and still counting. keep making profit while other, more ambitious

clubs, continue occupying their cabinet with trophies. I have absolutely no problem with that cool.

And who told you Gerrard/Lampard will be in the central midfield together.
Not even Capello is that silly. . . . Gerrard will be on the wing or play just behind Rooney in a 4-2-3-1 SYSTEM when playing a bigger opponent.
and what's the logic behind Joe cole preference over A.Johnson. btw, experience/maturity bullshit is overrated.

a player who won the gk of the season in the biggest league in the world, the epl, surely cannot be intimidated at the national level

how old was Cassillas when he graced the stage for spain at the 02 wc. how old was Owen, Pele, maradona et al when they set the wc alight

quality supersedes caps which loosely translate to experience. all day of the week.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Arsenal Fan Thread: For Gunners Only by jalether(m): 2:58pm On Jun 01, 2010
@ sauron, in that case, one of gerrard or lampard should have been omitted as well since they do not form a good partnership duo in the midfield

a manager must be consistent with his decision making.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Arsenal Fan Thread: For Gunners Only by jalether(m): 2:49pm On Jun 01, 2010

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Arsenal Fan Thread: For Gunners Only by jalether(m): 2:47pm On Jun 01, 2010
To be fair on walcott, he has played well for England under Capello and that's coming from the "number 1 walcott critique" on here

Darren bent's omission is what I still cannot get my head around. who gives a rabbit arse about "Old washed up heskey's" impressive partnership

with Rooney. a player who has only scored 3 goals in 31 games for his club. and his very limited club appearance as a starter for majority of the season is a

testament to his mediocrity. I wouldn't have any issues with Heskey of 4 years ago.

Nateevs,
your situation is tatooed!!
Of course, copping £380m+ worth of players with money the club DID NOT EARN = CHEATING! (as long as it was done within the rules at the time, then obviously 'cheating' = FOS). . . Dont get me started with the ridiculous wage bill.
your case is even worse than Portsmouth's, at least they are suffering the consequences of their actions. . . Roman has written off Chelsea's debt like a phucking speed-ticket. . . DEFEAT FOR FOOTBALL!! grin grin
And I wonder how this is any of your business, if it baffles you that much, pray for a saudi /rich owner to buy your club. That might solve the ongoing issue of

trophylessness at the emirates. if not for anything, I'm particularly concerned about the possibility of another volcanic ash resulting in flights cancellations

throughout Europe the next time arsenal cleans their trophy cabinet.

People are more concerned over Anichebe, kanu et al, while we all share the same sentiments, our defence should be the main course of concern, If Yobo,

Taiwo
and Shittu will be the preferred first choice in defense, especially against the argies and Korea then that will signal the beginning of the end, you heard it

here first.
SportsRe: Dropped Nigerian Players! by jalether(m): 3:59pm On May 31, 2010
Utaka's preference over Anichebe appears to be the most controversial decision lars made.

ffs, Utaka is past his prime, he has failed to impress in the 2 friendlies and other recent matches, even a blind man could see that, victor brings something fresh

and dynamic to the squad, his attributes have already being highlighted by revious posters and should have taken utaka's place, I would have

preferred peter utaka ahead of his big brother in that squad.

Anyways, let's hope lar's knows what he is doing, atleast he got it spot on over Lukman, Kaita, Adeleye and Odiah's inclusion.

Let's be honest here, targeting your album at the financially/economically less well off people is counter- productive, especially in a country like Nigeria, where

piracy reigns supreme. even if he sold his album at a competitive price, I am sure, most people will still rather buy the alaba version. as a way of

cutting cost.  In reality, it's the rich or financially stable individual's that usually buy authentic/original album version

"Celebration" in this context = motorcade parade on the streets like Terry and co recently did after winning the league/FA cup.
double is certainly worth celebrating. The day arsenal finally break their trophyless jinx. gongo aso, kutupu awu grin grin grin grin

United won Champions League and the Premiership title in 2008 and there was no motorcade celebration.
By yout spastic logic, UCL + EPL ain't MAJOR trophies.

United won the Carling Cup, World Club Cup and the Premiership title in 2009 and did not celebrate.
By your moronic reasoning, none of those titles won were MAJOR.

Honestly, you need to get off DRUGS.
Perhaps the onfield jubiliation and champagne shower does not count as celebration, Is there something I'm missing here undecided

The same way we have beautiful goals and ordinary/tap ins in footie, some people may argue that all goals serve the same purpose

and therefore there is no differentiation in terms of quality, which is similar to your position atm. but in reality we know a 35 yard volley is of superior

quality than a  simple tap in. compare spain's euro 2008 footie with Greece in euro 2004. and tell me there is no world of  difference between the

two team's style of footie. they both achieved the same result (winning the torny) however spain did it the right way, they created the balance between

efficiency and beautiful/quality footie.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Manchester United Fan Thread: Red Devils' Zone! by jalether(m): 5:50pm On May 26, 2010
dayokanu:
We can also say Bayern played the best footie on Saturday despite Inter winning, scoring 2 good goals and having more attempts at goal
There is a difference between efficient footie and beautiful footie (best footie brand), inter were simply more efficient that doesn't translate to playing

quality footie, how many times have we seen teams play the "win at all cost" footie, Greece won euro 2004 doing the same thing inter did on sat

what is fascinating or interesting about that boring footie, make no mistake about it, I'm an advocate of pragmatism, however, I also beleive in

fair play. play negative/efficient footie ONLY in right circumstances or when there's absolute need for it .

1  when a team is a man down, defending with more men behind the ball is the best strategy
2  when the game reaches the final minutes and need to see out the game

those two scenario is perfectly understandable, but to base your philosophy on negative footie is not justifiable
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Manchester United Fan Thread: Red Devils' Zone! by jalether(m): 5:33pm On May 26, 2010
The same brand of footie that won barca 6 titles last season, the only differentiation here is that barca were more clinical and efficent in front of goal

pass, pass and pass as many described it, takes the right players, mentality, confidence and dedication to perfect, what's the big deal

about relying on long balls and pacy wingers/full backs to play footie. amateur players in local leagues though out the world do that poo for fun

take it or leave it, barca and arsenal's brand of footie epitomises how footie should be played. if it was nothing special and easy then we should have more

teams doing the same. To borrow cantona's phrase, put the ball on the ground and "make the ball happy"
