Now my observation and comments:

1, If Nigeria had gone to AFCON 1996 and 1996, Rashidi would have scored at least 5 more that would have brought his tally to 42

2, I don't see Rashidi's record being broken in the next 20 years. Martins showed some promise at the beginning but he has also reached his twilight in SE

3, Many Nigerians that call Yakubu names will be surprised that he is Nigeria's 3rd highest goal scorer.

4, I see IK Uche overtaking Martins and Yakubu, and possibly Odegbami, to become Nigeria's 2nd or 3rd highest goal scorer in history.

5, Can we ever produce another Yekini?

6, Why don't we hear or read about this Oyakherua, who is Nigeria's all-time 5th highest goal scorer? Scored that many

7, With what we hear about Muda Lawal, I would have thought he scored more than 12 goals for Nigeria.
When are we gonna start?
It's actually last weekend of every month. October edition holds October 29-30.

Planning is still on.

We need 2 more judging criteria

We need suggestions for October topic.

Drogba is a great guy, always delivering in his country's jersey. These generation of patriotic and committed Ivorians deserve an ANC Gold before they retire. They've done enough. Too bad they will come after Nigeria in my support in SA 2013.

Senegalese are bad losers. They did same to Nigerians in their country when Nigeria eliminated them at QF in ANC 2000. Destroying Nigerians' properties in Dakar and going gaga.

Politics › Re: NL Monthly Political Debate by Jarus(op): 10:51pm On Oct 13, 2012
Katsumoto: This is for Jarus as well.

What is the objective of these debates?

Is it to show the debating prowess of posters or to serve as a means of providing/generating ideas/different points of view?

I say this because, debaters may not necessarily agree with the position they have been assigned in a debate but will follow the rules of debating to win. For instance, if I bend the truth/fact, it is up to my opponent to point it out. But the judges can fact-check if it is pointed out by my opponent.

If the objective is for posters to demonstrate debating ability, then a debater can take any position. But if some good is to come out of this, then it is better for debaters to take positions they morally believe in or are being paid to believe in.
We will rework the modalities and judging criteria. For a political debate (as opposed to school debate) I personally think less emphasis should be on grammar and all that, or at best, it shouldn't carry weight weighty enough to singularly determine winner. It should be about who has the most novel idea, not who is the most eloquent.

We are introducing 2 new criteria to be centred on power of points/reasoning and dilute the weight of grammar and related criteria. Debaters will be chosen based on moral conviction about the topic, not temporarily aligning to that view just for debate sake. We want naturalness, so we can have a glimpse of what that debater will do if he takes position of authority. This means that we will settle for the topic first before picking debaters.

That will bring our criteria to 7, at 5 maximum point per criteria, that will come to 35 points(70%), audience poll will take 15 marks(30%). Polls shall be on for just 1 hour, so only those viewing the debate live can participate because we need to annouce results at the end of the exercise, which we are envisaging shoudl be between 2-3 hours.

Coogar remains a judge pls.

Edo-girl also replaces Talina on the panel.

I will release reworked position tomorrow by God's grace.

Topic suggestions are also welcomed for October edition.

@Jarus, this is the 4th person requesting that coogar be disqualified from being a judge.. He is too much of a temperamental person plus he hasn't shown the civility expected of one that will judge others... My 2cents, and can we just get this debate started sad sad sad
fron the very first post on this thread I have stated that the debate hold last weekend of every month. That's still 2 weeks away. All these are just planning. No debate until 29-30th.
@Jarus, I'm not sure you saw my post where I suggested that the NLers choose the winner of each debate. Since that post, a few other people have made similar suggestions and I'd strongly recommend that the rest of us have some sort of participation in choosing winners via poll - the idea of choosing the winners jointly (NLer and judges 50 - 50, 70-30 or ?) is not a bad one.

I also suggested that after each debate, the judges should work on a document which itemizes the key points of both sides of the debate for publication here on NL, where the document will be accessible for reference by all and sundry. The output of the debates could serve a greater purpose than we may be willing to envision at the moment. What do you guys think about this?
I already noted your first point in my recent post on someone that suggested 70-30.

Not yet adopted, but under review.

2nd point taken and adopted.

Johndoe100: I also have nothing against Edo-girl, but why always haters? Why would the replacement for the foreigner not be someone we want, why always a hater? If your bias is so great then let us at least have a foreigner. At least they won't be so implacably unpatriotic.
I don't even know much about edo girl. Hater to who? Hatred for what? Now this is irritating.

Disgusting how you dish out tags to everyone: haters, patriotic, arrogating to yourself prerogative to label Nairaland members.

Only English. Vernacular proverbs, if used, should be translated to English.

Nothing wrong in Obahiagbon style, but what is important is correctness, contextual appropriateness, spelling, construction.

Unsettled matters

- Can we settle for Edo-girl as replacement for Talina or bring in another foreigner?

- Are the judging criteria I listed out ok, or can we modify further? What about Coogar's proposal?

Once we settle these, we can move to discussing topic for debate. Debate wekend is 2 weekends away, October 30 & 31. The 4 debaters shall not be arrived at until morning(by Nigerian time) of Friday, Oct 29. 2 days is enough for preparation.
Politics › Re: NL Monthly Political Debate by Jarus(op): 10:52pm On Oct 12, 2012
JUDGING CRITERIA

1, Presentation(opening, flow, closing) - 4 marks
2, Logic of arguments - 4 marks
3, Strenght of facts & examples - 4 marks
4, Grammar - 4 marks
5, Demonstration of knowledge/understanding of the subject - 4 marks

Is this ok? Or can we jointly tinker with it?

Resignation accepted with thanks.

Ladies and gentlemen, let's move on pls.

Now, we are working on judging criteria and we need your input.

It's a 5-criteria judgment, maximum of 4 points per criteria, summing up to 20. So a debater scores a maximum of 20 from each judge, 5 judges, come to 100.

Can we have inputs on the 5 criteria to guide judgment?
