Due to traffic situation on my Badore-Ajah-VI home-work route, driving to work means I'll be leaving home not later than 6:15am if I want to get to work before 8. Since I have alternative in bike, I can afford to set out by 7 and still get to work before 8. I consider that convenient than driving(driving in traffic is a hell of work for job - I just don't have the patience). Only to get to Ajah on Monday and no bike was willing to go to VI. After waiting for like 20 minutes, hopped public transport. Needless to say I got to work late, 8:30. |
CuntDestroyer: its about time all airlines stop flying down there. let their elites(who are the only ones who could afford to fly in the first place) go by road. It's not only elite that fly. |
All these economic factors(unemployment etc) people are marshalling come no where near the fatality that is a risk with okada on highways. We are talking about death and injury here. No be person wey get life go think of employment. In any case they can still make their income plying permissible roads and streets. |
dabossman: And therein lies the problem for most people. Do you know that this okada men that many are supporting here put a lot of taxi drivers and 'Kabukabus' out of business. I remember in the late 90's till early 2000's in my neighbourhood, you could get a kabukabu from the major highway into the inner streets. Today, those cabs don't exist anymore. Okadas took over because many people see them as a quick means of transportation. I used to leave home at about 7am to 'fly' a bike to work before. Now i leave an hour earlier to drive down. May this quick fix mentality not land people in Igbobi o!If I want to drive to work I set out by 6am, but the fact that I can 'fly' bike by 7 and still get to work by 8 has made me abandon my car on weekdays. Now, the discipline of leaving early has to be re-awakened. |
Cuddlemii: This is to inform you that the debate is postponed indefinitely till the new date, time & topic is agreed upon which will be intimated to you at the earliest.I personally think generally calling for expression of interest and keeping the number low (say 4-6) would have been easier than listing people. |
I am a regular okada patron, twice 'flew' it from VI to MMIA Ikeja to catch late flights, not to talk of the many times I had 'flown' it on Lekki-Ajah expressway to and from work. But I fully endorse this action. There are too many reported okada accidents on highways, with its attendant fatalities. Banning will affect me too, but I am ready to take the sacrifice. It will also help me to be more time-conscious, and jettison my 'I go fly bike reach there in 20 minutes' mentality, rather than setting out early enough. The cost is just too much. The ban on highways is in order. BRF has my support. |
sambos994: Not to mention in 2010, the same Algeria that beat CIV was defeated by Nigeria.Yeah, plus that one too. |
Ariyke: it's on SundayThanks. I go pass through Lagos-Ibadan expressway jeje on my return. I no wan sleep for Ijebu again this year. |
Sybellah: CIVCIV have actually not beaten us convincingly in this their golden generation. They struggled to beat us 1-0 in 2006 courtesy Drogba's offside goal. Same scoreline in 2008, or was it 2010 we met again when Kalou scored the lone goal. I still believe our game with CIV is a 50-50 thing. |
afam4eva: I've been following the Ojude Oba festival for some years and it's a convergence of the high and the mighty in Ijebu land. I just wonder why it's done after Ileya. Is it that majority of Ijebu people are Muslims?I think so. In my part of Yorubaland, which is also Muslim-dominated, Ileya is the time for other celebrations like weddings, and all sorts. Many people including me visit home only during that period. Families and old friends re-uniting etc. |
afam4eva: Is Ojude Oba festival tied to Islam? It's cultural, but the Ijebu people hold it second or third day after ileya(sallah). They block all the roads in carnival-like situation and party like no tomorrow. You know the typical Ijebu Yoruba owambe. I had been hearing it for many years until I witnessed it last year. The whole town was locked in celebration. |
Ariyke: holiday suppose be friday & monday na dem no wan make i enjoy my ojude oba niWhen is ojude oba abeg? That thing forced me to pass the night in Ijebu-ode during the last (2011) ileya. I was driving back from Kware via Ibadan-Ijebu to Ajah when I hit these people in Ijebu-Ode. The whole of Ijebu-Ode was locked to standstill and after 2 hours of manouvring in the town and I couldn't make headway in the serious gridlock, night fell and I had to pass the night there. Hmmmnn, just like yesterday. |
This thing no pay me o. Was thinking we'd be having Friday and Monday so I can take Thursday off to travel. Now, I'll be returning 2nd day after ileya, when I had planned to return on Monday by God's grace. Oh, this Abba Moro don pour sand for my garri ![]() |
^^ Maybe he opened that thread for fun...though he denied having a wife and kid in that thread which is weird. Or could he be joking about something like this? : /
I am also at a loss o. Even though I know Nigerians can do anything to direct traffic to their website, I don't want to believe that is the mission here. |
Very touching. So sad. Be strong bros. Pele. Olohun a wo Segun o. May God be with you. Losing a very loved one can be very devastating, especially someone you see everyday. I practically ran mad in office on September 7, 2011 when I got call that my wife had an accident in Ibadan. I ran from my desk to the end of the Finance work area before running upstairs to mosque. I threw office civility to the winds, shouted aloud and sped off. Sweating, my colleagues quickly got hold of me. Not even the fact that she was the one that called me that she just had an accident(she must have been alive to call) gave me the comfort that all was well. She just called me 10 minutes before, informing me that they were about to leave Ibadan. The next call, 10 minutes later was "Tunji, hehehe hahahaha, we had an accident....my sister ..." with noises at the background, before the line went off. I lost my sense immediately and left straight to Ibadan. Glory be to God, she and her younger sister with her in the 18-passenger bus were the least injured in the accident that claimed 5 lives including the driver's on the spot. Co-incidentally, exactly same day, one year later, we welcome our first baby. With the way I reacted that day, I can imagine what it feels to lose a wife, a young marriage at that. Pele ore, olohun a duro ti e. |

DANILSA: @ op i think you did your research from the point of Hausa Muslim, because the Yoruba Muslims are competing favorably with other parts of the country and they practice modern ISLAM, but you see the hausasThis stereotype is very unfortunate. I have worked into two oil companies and interacted with a lot of folks in the industry. I actively follow developments in corporate Nigeria. All the Hausa guys I have come across in these organizations(from Oando to Shell to NLNG) are very brilliant. One of the fastest career rise I saw while in Oando was for a Hausa guy - an IT guru that only came to serve, too good to be let go after NYSC and now a manager, 5 years later. I'm sure you won't attribute that to quota. Guy, drop that stereotype. @OP, Still interested in this topic, but phone can't do the job. When I can handle PC, I will chip in my full contribution, hopefully tomorrow insha Allah |
Paul John: ^^Thanks for your thought, but we dont consider that topic sensitive. And if you look at the debaters they are from same part of the country , so this is not an ethnic clash. If the debaters do their homework well, this topic also tends to be very educative. A lot of facts will be dug up and we will all learn or refresh our knowledge. |
LOL @ that post on Sagamite. ![]() |
And it is the Mukina they are calling names that moved it to the hp. |

Judges, please confirm your availability on the debate time on the planning thread. Thanks |
BRIEF CITATION OF THE GLADIATORS 1, AFAM4EVA: Afam4eva is a well respected political and cultural analyst on Nairaland. He has been on Nairaland for more than 6 years and still going strong. The multi-lingual commentator has been a key figure in Nairaland's political discussions for many years. But, how will he fare in a moderated debate? WE can't wait for Saturday. 2, KATSUMOTO Katz replaces Cheddarking. He doesn't need much introduction as he is a well known active participant in NL's political discussions. He emerged 1st and 2nd runners-up in Nairaland Politcs Section Poster of the year award for 2010 and 2011 respectively. 3, IKENGAWO:The didactic Ikengawo is another force to reckon with in Nairaland's politics section, never mind his sometimes playful nature. He has been around for some time and he is a thread-hold name on this section. But how far can his punches go on Afam4eva's face? I can't wait for the showdown. 4,OBINOSCOPY: Clearly, there is no underdog in this clash of titans, clearly not this multi-sectional Nairalander. Even if politics section is not his primary dwelling place, his opponents will have themselves to blame if they underrate him. With his gloves already on and the defensive pads all over his body, Obinoscopy is all but set to thrill us. Ladies and gentlemen, fuel subsidy townhall is going to a child's play to this Nairaland mother of all debates. Keep it locked. |
Now THIS is a squad. Brown Anichebe Musa R. Ibrahim Lukman Moses Taiwo Yobo Ambrose Oboabona Enyeama I dare someone to disagree.
Bros, forget about Rabiu Ibrahim and probably Haruna. Haruna is not even making Dynamo Kiev first 11. I don't even know where Rabiu is now, the last time I heard about he was struggling to get a shirt in Celtic. And these are the guys you want to play against CIV or even Mali, whose team are replete from first-teamers in Chelsea, Newcastle, Arsenal, and other top clubs in France and Spain? |
What happened to this earlier decision, particularly the bolded?
They will be subsumed into the 5 criteria. . |
Andre Uweh: Who ever is responsible for putting threads in the from page should be ashamed of this thread below. Yet a thread that has hit 20 pages and likely to hit 50 pages will not be in the front page despite pleas from forumites. Ndigbo nairaland that constitute 1/3 of this famous forum needs to beg a moderator to do what is just. This is shameful, and that particular mod responsible for this delay or lack of should swallow pride and apologise to forumites here. This is very disgraceful.Look, these guys have life outside Nairaland. If Mukina, who is the main homepage operator, is not around, then there is nothing you can do to it. And it is also possible that Seun and the the assistant Supermod have not come across the thread or not around sef. Also, getting a topic to the hp is entirely their discretion and not by number of pages. So it is not automatic that all recommended topics will eventually make it to the hp. BTW, I am just seeing that toipic for teh first time, so I dont know where the hp suggestions are being made. Has it been made here before? |
Double post. |
PointB: Truth be told, I think it's quiet disingenuous of not to do your job despite several pleas from myself and other members of the electoral team. To say that you were at the thread as observer and did post twice only to turn around and fail to recommend it for the FP is very unfair, and unbecoming of the esteem position many have held you. It's a big low for you. That was very rude of you. I have responsibility to recommend a topic for hp everyday and if I don't recommend your own and leave it to the homepaging authorities to see(either through this medium or awareness of main thread - which I am sure they are), I have not committed any wrong. You cant force a topic down my throat. Being a mod here doesnt add 50 kobo to my pocket. Some of us don't see this position as do-or-die. We go about it with our best ability but it doesn't mean we should take insults. If you want to take over the job you are very free to express your desire, rather than all these stupid comments. After all, you begged to be a judge in our debate thread which contributors roundly turned down. |
Seun: That's misleading. I'm not aware of most threads on Nairaland. Moderators are required to suggest topics for the home page from their sections. Mukina2 is required to check every topic suggested by moderators, and give reasons if they don't make the home page. So if your thread doesn't make the home page, it has a lot to do with Jarus.Responsibility taken. I have contacted Mukina to look at it and consider for homepage. |
AbuHanifa: Salam alaik,Space reserved for my contribution. Busy now. |
