Mad Cow: Please dont die o!! Mr. Peter Rufai..What happened to Dosu? Wishing you speedy recovery, Rufai. At 78, I don't think you should be too devastated by her death at such old age, even though I understand that no one wants his parents to leave him no matter how old. It doesn't appear his slump is related to the old woman's death. Get well soon, Dodo mayana. |
afam4eva: Also, it seems Cameroon is no longer a force to be reckoned with in the African continent as it pertains to football. As bad as Nigeria's case is, I think Cameroun's case is worse. |
afam4eva: It will be lovely to see Cape-Verde at the nations cup. I've never seen them play before.I have actually always wondered why a country that produced Henrik Larson, Nani and Patrick Vieira(?) for other nations will find it difficult to raise a decent national team for itself. It appears they are back to claim their space. |
Umunede: I want nigeria and ghana to b in d same group. Ghanaians always sing like music in my ear all d time dat de will always beat nigeria anytime anyday and I know for sure their team is over rated. Pls God, give us ghana pls. I need ghana. I will b d happiest person if we can get ghanaYou can't be happier than I will be. |
CFCfan: Yeah, there are 8 West African nations; making up half of the participating countries.West Africa has always been the football powerhouse of Africa, closely followed by North Africa. Southern and Eastern Africa are the otu respectively. |
bin gbagbo:Yes o. Only me ![]() |

bin gbagbo: this afcon ps for Ghana. They deserve it absolutely, worked soooo hard since 2006.CIV deserve it more. Tis generation of CIV players are big stars, and unlike other African stars, replicate their club performance at the national level. They are also very committed, unlike Nigerian players. The only reason I will wish Nigeria win this tournament ahead of CIV is because I am a Nigerian. These guys have worked hard enough to win ANC in this generation. |
semid4lyfe: FixedEthiopia should be easier than Cape Verde jare. Actually, I am not so surprised Cape Verde is gaining its place. I have always wondered why a country that produced Larson, Nani, Vieira(?) for other countries should not have a decent national team for itself. |
Mad Cow: NIGERIAThe same way we all put CIV, Ghana and Senegal as likely winners for 2012 ANC, only for Zambia to kick their asses. |
Please does anyone remember the name of that bald headed super sports guy that hates Nigeria?
Momodu Gaye (Ivorian). ![]() |
psamuell2: The Confederation of African Football has revealed the seeding for the draw for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.Worst case scenario for Nigeria Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Morocco, Cape Verde Best Case South Africa, Nigeria, Niger, Ethiopia |

Start the car, tune the radio to Brila FM (if my wife had driven the car earlier and had changed the radio station), put on the seatbelt, then zoom off. I remember to touch the mirror when I get to highway and need to use it. |
tailek: ... and these ones will also complain of not being employed.... Gosh!In all humility, this is the part that worries me most. |

afam4eva: Don't forget that uche has been missing in major competitions where he would have gotten a lot of goals. The Nations cup and world cup comes to mind. If he can feature in at least 90% of super eagles matches then i think it's a possibly, also considering the fact that the eagles have imbibed the culture of harvesting goals.I agree. |
afam4eva: If you don't like my comment you could easily pass or kill yourself rather than abusing me. Whether he's 28 or not is not the issue. The isssue is that he will be around for at least 3 years. If he scores 19 goals in 5 years (from his debut in 2007 to now, do you think he can score another 19 in the next 3 years to equal Yekini's record. Anyway, not being an out-and-out striker like Yekini, he still deserves credit. He is our most reliable forward for now. But I dont see him overtaking Yekini. |
fuke: Thanks. Agba o nitan l'orile (May we never witness dearth of elders on the land) |

Mad Cow: Look at the stats, NIGERIA does not need another Okocha. What we need is a YEKINI.No, we need a JJ - a central midfielder, ball distributor, skills bag and entertainer. We need it. It instills fears in opponents, makes matches enjoyable and not boring. Musa is no Okocha. He has potential to become a Finidi, but hell no, not yet Finidi until he perfects his crossing. We don't have a JJ and we need one. |
MacLovington: 6, Why don't we hear or read about this Oyakherua, who is Nigeria's all-time 5th highest goal scorer? Scored that manyNo, this is incorrect. Every Nigerian literally idolizes Kanu and JJ, not their tribesmen only. Same for Yekini. |
Looks like the shape of Nigerian football team can be seen from this stat. Baring any exceptional talents, Yorubas seem to be more effective finishers, SE/SS mostly midfielders. Defense not so certain, but mostly SS/SW/SE. Wingers and committed utility players: North. Goalies: SW. If you need a player in the national team to run into bricks for you for the whole 90 minutes, go to Kano state or anywhere up North. I think its a very decent balance and any coach who uses this formula will most likely get results. Also, our best midfielders seem to be Southerners that grow up in the North. Mikel Obi, Victor Moses are recent examples. I think football discipline is more up North than down Souths I watched the U17 today, and it was very similar and they looked sharp. P.S. I do not intend tribal war here, just stating my own observations.
Looking true to some extent. But our best midfielders have always been from the East: Mikel, Okocha, Kanu, Finidi, Amuneke You're also right on North-trained southerners. Apart from Mikel (Jos) and Moses (Kaduna), Odegbami (Jos) and Yekini (Kaduna) also grew up in the north. I also tend to agree with the untiring spirit of Kano players: Garba Lawal comes to mind, and currently, Ahmed Musa is doing the job of running round the field for 90 minutes without being tired. Yorubas also appear good strikers. I personally play as a striker in my local football here. Martins, Odegbami, Yekini come to mind. |
