Corrected. I didn't know it matters. Is there any verse in the quran that obligates us to start Allah's name with a capital letter or is it a formulated idea?. Do you stress the capital A while pronouncing it too?
No. No special verse. It's just the rule of English. I believe you know God and god mean different things. Starting Allah with a, just like God with small g, is irreverent.

Let's limit issues here to politics sections issues please. 'Report to Mod' button, as well as 'talk to Mods' threads, are available in various sections for your use on issues from different sections.

Copying and pasting as well as long, typed posts are susceptible to Spambots. Most spams are actually copy and paste. Duplication of same post is also another factor. That's essentially how spammers operate, so non-spam posts with these xtics may also be caught, but if genuinely proved that it's not a spam, the Admin will reinstate it.

I expect you to respect Allah, even if you don't believe in Him. Starting it with small letter is disrespectful.

@Gbawe,
I have checked it. It was being caught by spambot.
I have asked the Admin & Supermod to release it. It will soon be visible to everyone.

@Neptunz,
Remember tribalism and related issues have a special section for it. So posting such topics here or derailing ordinary topics into tribal war is what is wrong. Also most of those tribal wars involve cursing which is also an offence. So while arguing on tribalism, try to keep within forum rules.
Please review the forum rules again and be conversant with bannable offences.
Politics › Re: Let's Have Your Complaints Here by Jarus(op): 9:22am On Aug 04, 2010
While not holding brief for the admin, I think like any other outfit, the criterion for the selection of people you choose to work with is purely your discretion.
Of course, you will have people you feel more comfortable working with or you feel will carry out the job the way you want it done.
I don't think this is rocket science. If I were the CEO of a company(and I'm talking about a solely-owned company) I have absolute discretion as to who I choose to assist me, while the bottom line remains how can I better my company.

I can't answer the question on banning because I don't have banning right.

Got any issue with the Mods or other member(s)? Or with posting or spambot?
Let's have them here. They will be attended to.
Use should be made of 'report to moderators' button too to report a specific post.

Let's keep this place sane and avoid unnecessary fighting and cussing.

Thanks, Dis Guy, for the 'Towards' correction. Saw it since but posting from phone, can't modify. Ok, how about Hall of shame for political personalities in the news for wrong reason? May drop 'Hall of fame' but methink we should not only harp on the negatives in our country, the positives should also be commended, especially when we have someone doing one.
Politics › Re: Jarus (August 3, 2010 to January 1, 2013) by Jarus(op): 11:09pm On Aug 03, 2010
Of all the 5, only two of them address a current problem. Others just seek a way of adding extra value to the section. Aisha is a lady I like to work with, she even sent me a PM to welcome me and explain one or two things to me. So expect a cordial working relationship.
Politics › Re: Jarus (August 3, 2010 to January 1, 2013) by Jarus(op): 11:04pm On Aug 03, 2010
Politics section has always had two Mods, its a section that requires constant, almost minute by minute watch which is not possible, after all the Mod cannot be online 24/7, so it is necessary to have more than 1 person overseeing it. Ditto for other hot sections of Roamance and Religion. So it doesn't in anyway mean Aisha2 is inefficient.These plans do not mean this section was in limbo before. In fact, of all the 5

Towards A Better Section: 03/August/2010
Before I'm accused of being too serious about this Mod thing, let me state clearly that I so much believe in NL that I do quote it in my contributions to national discourses in no less media than Thisday, Sun, Daily Trust,Nigeria Village Square etc.

Before unveiling my 5-point programmes, let me clarify some issues that may come up:

1, PERSONAL VIEWS: Like any other person, I have my personal views on varying issues. Being a Mod will not make me drop these views, but I promise not to use my position to suppress dissenting views or impartially promote my personal views. Having engaged in various discussions on this section in the last 3 years, most of my takes on issues are well known, notably approval of current CBN reforms with only a few reservations; advocate of one Nigeria and disbeliever in split as solution; belief that North  and South are both guilty of teh current mess the country is in; and many other personal opinions which are well known here. But will I use my Mod status to promote these views? No. I will continue to engage in discussions, marshaling my views on neutral ground. So my good friend, Naijaking, you are safe lol. It is also good to clarify here that I am a Muslim, and in fact the Mod of Muslims section for over a year, but I guarantee fairness to everybody irrespective of religious or ideological persuasion.

I hereby unveil the following as my initiatives toward making this section a better place. Note that I’m not creating any new rule, they are all carved within the general forum rules. They are just my ideas on how to make this section better, and they don’t contradict the general forum  rules. The general forum rules remain sacrosanct and I will enforce them to letter

1, Good Titles, Serious Forum: I personally have a soft spot for good grammar, but bad grammar is not an offence. So I will not tamper with any post for bad grammar, but I may edit titles as much as possible if grammar acrobatic is committed in titling the thread. Titles that are at variance with thread message/import, which could be misleading, will also be reframed. The raison d’etre here is to give visitors and first timers the impression that this is a serious site, and goes beyond the ‘online playing ground of some internet-addicted teenagers’. No less a personality than Professor Pius Akinsanmi, the Canada-based NEXT columnist and NVS editorial board member comes here.

2, The Tribalism Monster: Well, this is the most cancerous malady here and I will not deceive myself to say I can totally eradicate it, but I will use persuasion skills to encourage them to post such topics in the Tribalism and Sectionalism section, while using my moving, locking, deleting and warning powers to keep it at bay. I will also not hesitate to recommend for ban stubborn offenders.

3, Hall of Fame/Hall of Shame: Part of my initiative to make this forum fun-filled, is to open a thread called NL Politics section Hall of Fame and Hall of Shame. At the end of every month we shall be inducting a personality(not Nairalanders, but our political leaders, etc) that has been in the news for the wrong reason in the month for the former hall and for the right reason(if any) for the positive reason for the latter category. It’s gonna be interesting

4, Complaint Bureau: A thread shall also be opened for politics section contributors to voice out their grievances about the Mods, or other members, or lodge complaint about issues. Instead of taking rules into your hand, this will also be a medium to report provocative members. This is initiated to reduce fighting

5, The Grand Debates: I am also introducing a thread to be called 'The Grand Debate Arena', which will serve as official thread to discuss topical issues.Topical issues like CBN reforms, zoning, etc shall be discussed at lenght, and the thread will be guarded. We will be inviting members from both sides of the debate to slug it out.

Together we can ahve a great section!

Tribalism is not illegal on NL but a special section has been dedicated for it, so it is only in that section that it is legal. It is illegal in Politics section. After all, I myself also go to view the Tribalism scetion to have a good laugh especially with such funny threads like' which tribe has biggest head,which tribe has biggest stomach, which tribe has poorest accent etc?
Politics › Re: Our New Politics Moderator: Jarus by Jarus(m): 8:34pm On Aug 03, 2010
Tribalism is no doubt the biggest menace in this section and I will not deceive myself to say I can eliminate it because it appears ingrained into the Nigerian system[the current national issue of zoning is in a way a tribal war too] but we shall our moving, locking, and deleting, warning rights to put it at barest minimum

@tpiah,
Prove me wrong? How many Yoruba people can openly criticize Awo? And not labelled omo ale Yoruba? For not following Awo ideology, Akinjide, Akinloye and co are still seen as outcasts till today. Accomodation of dissenting views indeed!
Politics › Re: Samuel Ladoke Akintola by Jarus(m): 3:21pm On Aug 03, 2010
I don't think the purpose of this thread is to revise history. It appears to me an attempt to challenge the generational belief that SLA was a traitor. This is the belief of many people in Yorubaland. His offence for being labelled an outcast is because he challenged Awo, who almost 100% of Yoruba idolize. There is no denying Awo's sagacity, but some of us believe Yorubas are being unfair to Akintola. Akintola deserves respect too pls.

@Tudor,
I have been a great fan of Ibime even if he made that statement about my 'useless journalism' which was even very obvious he was just pulling my legs in that thread. Whether Ibime criticizes me or not, he remains one of the Nairalanders I respect for his versatility, brilliance and fact-based argument skills. Will that opinion about him change if he comes here to criticize me? Capital No. That is my opinion about him and it can only change if I notice a major, consistent, unpardonable drift in these qualities I respect him for, not because he criticizes me. Even if he comes here to call me a dullard, a useless journalist, that will not change mmy opinion about him. In fact I'm happy he's not someone that sees from the same lens with me in ost
Nairaland General › Re: The Grand Contest: Most Versatile Nairalander? by Jarus(op): 11:59pm On Aug 02, 2010
@Razur,
I av neva hidden my admiration for awards. Its a trait I'm known for from high school and I don't av any regrets. I was even the award committee chair in my final year in varsity. I even have an annual thread on Top 10 Nairalanders since 2008n which is entering its 3rd year. And fyi, I initiated the sectional poster of the year award at the moderators board. So ranking/rating/award is what I enjoy doing, and no regrets.

That said, what exactly is your problem with me. Yes, I put Seun as No 1 in 50 greatest Nairalanders of all time,where is ass licking here? The president of Nigeria automatically bags GCFR, the highest honour in the land. And fyi again, I'm not an asslicker, I say it as it is. Despite being his mods, I was part of the mods that challenged and faulted his actions in a recent issue in the hallowed Mods section. I can tell anybody anything to his face, but will never do so just for doing sake. I believe if somebody deserves a praise, there is nothing wrong in showering them on him/her and if same person does an act that deserves criticism, tell him to his face. But I'm not one of those pseudo-progressives, Gani-wannabes, who try to impress people by criticizing everything without bringing forward any practicable way forward.
Nairaland General › Re: The Grand Contest: Most Versatile Nairalander? by Jarus(op): 9:29pm On Aug 02, 2010
I personally will give it to Ibime. Ibime to me is the most versatile Nairalander. He has something meaningful to say about virtually everything. Dayokanu is also very versatile, it is very rare for someone that playful to engage in serious debates, with fine points. Ajanlekoko is another very versatile guy here. He is into sports, career, political philosophy, but unlike the two previous guys, he is strictly serious and hardly engages in frivolous discussions. So its not a one-horse race as u may think, I personaly give it to Ibime but I want an open discussion.
