If you guys are ranking, I want us to rank with five giant names in any field (politics, economics, law, medicine, phamarcy, education e.t.c)and their impact in nigerian society. then i think we will get the best school. I give example

Uni Ibadan (Wole Soyinka, Gani Fawehmi)
UNN (P.N Okeke, Dora Akunyili )

etc. Then I guess we will know the best. I will come out with a list of mine later
UI may have taught WS(he actually uses Leeds in his profile and I have never seen UI in his profile before, just hear people say he went to UI) he became a Prof and won nobel laurette as Ife lecturer. You can imagine stuffs he would have put into students he taught for the many years he was an Ife lecturer. He also became a professor emeritus in Ife. So WS is more synonymous with Ife.

I wonder o! Pls inform us about the current rates
I am sure OAU couldn't ahve gone so bad that school fees would ahve crossed 20,000 for at least least paying faculty.
obstead200:
I really dont think u guys are correct.
There is no way the cheapest federal university will be in the southwest.

where are the northerners on NL? please come up with your prices so that these posters can see! the cheapest University in Nigeria is BOUND to be in the north. Remember their government has to practically beg them to go to school (i.e until very recently.)

Mind u, I'm an Igbo man.
Not necessarily so. The govt pay them bursaries, not fix their school fees.

I think UNISOK is d cheapest! Graduated in d year 2004; paid less than 40k!!!
This is double what I paid from years 1 to 4 in OAU, 2001-2006!

odiaero:
u dont know about the cheapest, but u think is OAU huh see confusion
No confusion. Know=sure. Think means has an idea but not sure. So you can 'not know' and still 'think'.

I graduated in 2004

1997/98 Freshman yr- Tuition 1500 Accomodation 590

1998/99 Tuition 500, Acomodation 90

1999/2000 Tuition 500 Acomodation 90

2000/2001 Tuition 550 Accomodation 90

2001/2002 No Academic session in OAU

2002/2003 I don forget cos dem increase fees
Ha DK, I had always thought I didn't meet you in Ife o.
Let me take it from here:

I entered in 2001.

2001/2002 We jambites: School fees - 1050, Hostel fees - 90; I know you returning students paid 500 as school fees
2002/2003 No session
2003/2004 Can't remember school fees but less than N3000 and it was war before students agreed; hostel fees also jerked up to 2590
2003/2004 Same thing I think
2005/2006 Departmental and other charges introduced, total fees (school plus ranged from 7500 to about 18000, depending on faculty. I paid 7590 as a faculty of social sciences student.

Altogether, I paid less than 20,000 as school and hostel fees from years 1 to 4. But of course, I bought hostel spaces, unofficially from co-students, in years 2 and 3 for about 5000 per session.

NB: DK, 2000/2001 and 2002/2003 were the cancelled sessions in OAU.

davidylan:
lol the problem with smoked foods is not the carbon content (afterall all your amino acids and sugars in your body are made up of a carbon-backbone!) but the oxygen and lipid radicals, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons like dioxins which can induce genetic changes or cause the production of more toxic metabolites in the body.

@ topic . . . this professor needs to be taken to task. grin What is luciferin? Is he aware this is NOT FOUND in the body or smoked foods but in fireflies or some dinoflagellates and is simply a substance oxidized by luciferase enzymes to produce oxyluciferin and light? shocked cheesy
Are you sure this can also not cause cancer of the eyes

That serves OUK right, but PDP should be careful. They might cos of personal interests destroy the fortune of the party in general. I forsee APGA benefiting from all the crises coming up. OUK made the highest political miscalculation of his life these few weeks back.
I can't agree any less. From being a godfather, he is now fatherless and sonless. He produced two governors in 2007, and has lost both of them to other parties now. He is also leaving the party he nurtured, PPA, to PDP, and PDP are also not accepting him. PPA is on the throes of death. What a miscalculation!

2ND NAIRALANDERS IFTAAR
Alhamdulilah, another Ramadan period is knocking the door. In few weeks time, insha Allah, another ramadan will commence. We pray Allah spare our lives till then and beyond.

As was known to all those who were here last year, and as may be seen from pages 1-8 of this thread for those who were not here last year, we had our maiden Nairalanders iftaar(joint breaking of fast together) last year, hosted by yours sincerely, and held at Mama cass Restaurant, Victoria Island, Lagos.

Recall we promised to make the event an annual affair. Here comes another ramadan, alhamdulilah.
To this end, I want us to start planning now so that we can have a more organised event.

My suggestions:
PLACE
- Since majority of us are in Lagos, it will take place in Lagos
- If we can get at least 3 willing brothers and/or sisters in other locations, especially Abuja, Kaduna, Kano, London or New York, then they can have their own at these locations too, agreeing on venue and date among themselves

DATE
- For Lagos, I will suggest first or second Friday of Ramadan
- Other locations can fix date, after agreeing to hold one

VENUE/HOST
We have two options:
1, A member can undertake to host everybody, at his/her house or an eatery. We used Mama Cass, VI, last year. We can still use it or another convenient venue. HINT: The host should budget at least 15,000, depending on number of people that turned up.
2, We raise money within ourselves before the day and, under the coordination of Mod or any other person, fix a venue, preferably at an eatery.

Let’s discuss this and come up with a definitive plan before 1st day of Ramadan.

Gosh, it takes Becomerich to point out the obvious to Jakumo. I love it!

What I find hypocritical of Jakumo is one of his post where he criticises Kosovo for his use of big words - Even though we know it is all in good humour for most part of Kosovo's post. Yet this Jakumo guy is doing similar thing. Nice one Jakumo. undecided

Just to paraphrase what others have mentioned in my own style. The use of "Big English" words where simple one will do, is just retarded. The use of complex bullshit to try and confuse people when debating is idioticcccc. So all you muppets who see the need to come across as "learned" are just fcuktards. Yeah sue me or take on me if any one of you dare. grin

@Becomerich

Not a fan of yours, but nice one for exposing these suckers, and explaining to them that communication is about people who may be reading/listening understand what one is saying.
I beg to differ here. There is a world of difference between Jakumo's and Kosovo's styles.
Kosovo tries to impress with his 'big' vocabularies which are usually out of context and fraught with spelling errors. To make matters worse, he commits grammar acrobatics in simple tenses. And it looks like he's trying to imitate Jakumo. His style is amateurish, to say the least.

Jakumo, on the hand, is obviously also showboating, but with much style and sense. One, he has been consistent with it for over 4 years. Two, he does his assignment right in little things like tenses, concord etc, unlike Kosovo. Three, being the first person to bring such style to Nairaland, and the popularity it has earned him, he is seen as original and pioneer of bombast on NL.

Of course, this is not to say blowing big grammar when simple words will easily pass the message is faultless, but I don't see anything wrong in anybody establishing a peculiar style, provided you are original and consistent with it, not 'copy, copy' style.  I personally find it amusing.

Thanks Dr Balogun. omnislife's comment appeared very strange to me, and I never took it in the first place. Thanks to her for offering her advice though.
I did urinanalysis twice in the last couple of months, at different clinics, and they all came out good, according to the doctors. Also went further to do abdominal scan four times in the last five months, at two different scan centres, the lastest being three weeks ago, but all show 'clean liver and kidney conditions'. So I don't know the source of the persistent abdominal discomfort. Age: I'm 28. No problems passing urine.

And by the way, pls let's talk off-NL. I'm PMing my email add to you right away.
