Oya Jarus, where are you? If you don't appear before I count 1 to 9, I will declare Asha 80 the winner grin.
Here I am now. I think auwal has been able to demonstrate what Asha called him. Secessionist.

You mean microcosm not miniature.
Thanks davidif. Even though miniature(A copy or model that represents or reproduces something in a greatly reduced size) is not totally wrong, microcosm(A small, representative system having analogies to a larger system in constitution, configuration, or development) is definitely the best word.

Politics › Barewa College: The Secondary School That Has Produced 5 Nigerian Presidents! by Jarus(op):
I like reading biographies of eminent people, right from my primary school days. I can remember coming across this college in the biographies of prominent Nigerians, especially northerners. Curiously, I searched for it wikipedia, via google that I learnt this secondary school produced:
5 Nigerian Presidents:
-Gowon
-Murtala
-Shagari
-Buhari
-Umoru Yar'adua

Nigeria's only Prime Minister

-Tafawa Balewa

Most influential Northern politician/Ex-Premier of Northern region
-Ahmadu Bello

2 Chief Justices of Nigeria:

-Muhammad Bello
-Idris Kutigi

Ex-IG
-Ibrahim Coomassie

. . .of course the two brightest northerners of this generation:
-Nasir El-rufai
-Nuhu Ribadu

I understand that that was obviously the only secondary school in the north at that time, but could any school be prouder?
Kudos to whoever thought of teh idea of forming that school at that time.

Just observed this.
Nairalanders are at their grammatical best when they are criticizing or insulting.

-Bitch
-Stalk
-Buffoon

Islam › Re: Polygamy by Jarus(m): 11:23am On Jan 23, 2009
Islam sanctions polygamy(up to 4 wives), but it is optional.
If a Muslim wants monogamy, he is free to. There is no problem with that, but what is not good is to criticizing those that decide to exercise the option of marrying more than one. This is a Qur'anic injunction and we must respect it, even if our heart doesn't like it. We must also be careful to ensure our thinking is not shaped by this western mentality, but rather by Islam.
Islam allows monogamy as it does ploygamy. Whichever option one exercises should be because of Islam and not West.
We should be careful.

I, for one, will never join the haters of Islam in criticizing polygamy. I may or may not marry more than one wife. I always joke that I will marry two wives, but who knows, it is very possible.

Well I doubt if that still exists in Lagos.
Career › Re: First Bank Or Globacom Which Should I Take? by Jarus(m): 9:47am On Jan 23, 2009
Glo was one of the companies I used to dream when I was about finishing University, but now I hate the company more than shit. A very close friend of mine that worked there had to resign just after 2 months. He complained of lack of structure, poor treatment of staff. Imagine an First Class, award-winning Chartered Accountant following truck around in the name of stock or whatever they call it. He told me he didn't have an office,no computer system. That was teh type of job he was doing. He was earning about 177k take-home per month though, but he didn't like the job. He had to resign and got offers from Oando and GTB, but chose GTB.

I think Finance Dept is not well structured in the company. Only experience hires, I guess, can enjoy the job. But their pay is OK, if you don't mind.
First bank: The last time I heard about their pay was early last year and it was said to be about 104k per month entry level. I have also heard the bank is stress-free, but generally I know little about the bank.

Culture › Not Being To Lagos, a 'bush person'? by Jarus(op): 12:23pm On Jan 22, 2009
Why is it that anybody that has not been to Lagos is seen as uncivilized?
During service year in Sokoto, a guy told us that he had never been to Lagos(He lives in Kaduna) and people were just telling him ''How is that possible?''
I can remember while growing up in Kwara too, I always dreamt of coming to Lagos. If you are not a Lagosian, you are seen as dull and unsmart. Even in university level @ Ife, some I had a room mate in year 1 that actually lived in Ibadan but used to lie he lived in Lagos. Isn't Ibadan presentable enough? Even those of us that lived in Kwara were able to tell people we were not Lagos-based. I don't know why people lie about that.
The story was not different even during my service year, as one Kaduna guy that told us he had never been to Lagos was looked down upon. When I was serving in Sokoto, the indigene-friends I made used to respect me because 'I be Lagos boy'. The principal of the village school I taught in during service year, a very close friend and ahumble hausa man, told me he had never been to Lagos and asked me questions about Lagos, that he heard in Lagos, people don't help another, you have to be sharp etc.
A female friend of mine from Niger state, an Archi grad of FUT Minna, also used to tell me about she feared Lagos, that she heard so many things about Lagos. So fearful of Lagos is this Nupe lady that she told me if she gets job in Lagos she wont take it.

So what's the fuss about Lagos?
Is Lagos that bad?
Is it true that if you have not been to or live in Lagos, you are not yet civilized?
Why do people respect/fear/feel inferior to anybody from Lagos?

Politics › Re: Is Nairaland Another Nigeria? by Jarus(m): 10:22am On Jan 22, 2009
Let's assume that Seun is President of the Federal Republic of Nairaland. Note that he is facing a corruption accusation now and investigation is on. Imagine Auwal87 being the Vice President and Kosovo is Senate President. Now, let's appoint Eartmama as the Speaker House of Reps, while Mai Suya , Uche2005, Nuxo, Becomerich and Abu-Mariam are ministers. babyDaddy, hubreality. Ifygurl,Ogaga4luv and bindex are members of the Senate while xtolove, MC Usman, Chidi4U, **Osisi, IGWUE USA, and Alam-Tara are House of Reps members. Now tell me, how can NL develop based on their comments and views in the Federal Repuplic of Nairaland? Assuming they are appointed to be leaders of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, will Nigeria fare better? Comments please.
Let me attaempt some analysis:
President: Seun
VP: Auwal87
Senate President: Kosovo
Speaker: Earthmama
Senate: babydaddy,hubreality,ogaga4luv,bindex
House of Rep: MCUsman, Chidi4U,Osisi,IgweUSA,Alamtara
Ministers: Mai Suya, Uche2005,Nuzo,Becomerich,Abu Mariam

LIKELY SCENARIO: By 'Nigerians', I mean Nairalanders and by 'Nigeria', Nairaland.
PRESIDENCY:
Seun will not hide the fact that he is the owner of 'Nigeria' and will make every 'Nigerian' know that he can do and undo. We however expect him to be a consultative President. Although the President is an atheist, he exhibits traits of a person that will be tolerant of other people's religious views. Forget about opening and closing prayers in political gatherings. We do not expect bias from Presido but a moderate autocracy should not be ruled out.
Jamace did a good reasoning putting a northerner as VP. Auwal87 is expected to be a loyal President, but the bulk of the power will lie with the President.

SENATE:
I know little about our Senate President. I don't know his views, his thinking. The same thing for the Senate members, except Bindex. Bindex is expected to be a radical Senator. He will be the closest to the President.

HOUSE:
Aaahh, this is war Zone! With Earthmama and MCUsman in the same house, this is total war. I don't see any peace in this house. If Speaker earthmama goes one way, honourable MC will go the other way. We expect osisi and earthmama to be able to form a formidable clique in the house. But like a one-man Soldier, and a typical Hausa strongman, don't be surprise if MC is able to impeach Eartmama. If earthmama becomes floor member, then problem has just started. Earthmama will dig out records of all the people that impeached him. MC himself will not attempt vying for speakership, Alamtara may be put there.

MINISTERS
Becomerich as Minister? The whole 'Nigeria' will oppose this, even his Yoruba kinsmen. But like Iwu he will never resign. He will continue. So disliked will be this guy that 'Nigerians' will not hesitate to stone him if he goes out on courtesy call. Nuzo is expected to bring some sanity into the ministry he is put in charge.

NB:This analysis is subject to modification. I rushed it, no time for indepth analysis now.

benchuks:
i strongly believe that Mikel is highly overated by Chelsea fans and uninformed Nigerians.he is just like any other average Nigerian player out there in Europe.someone who can not take initiative to me,is not a player and that has been my problem with Mikel Obi.
Mikel is not only rated high by Chelsea fans, even respected soccer analysts and journalists rate him high. This is what keeps surprising me. Or is it not the same Mikel I watch week in, week out? 4-4-2 magazine rates him among the 100 best players in the world, a list that has just 7 or 8 Africans., implying we can't name 8 African players better than him. He was voted Chelsea's best in December. One coach, can't remember who precisely, recently recommended him as solution to Tottenham's problem. After almost every match,Scolari talks about him in glowing terms.

This is what amazes me about the guy!

On the surface though, I feel happy hearing/reading such complementary terms about Naija player, but deep inside I ask myself, what's this guy really playing? Are these people watching another Mikel?

I really do not know what's wrong some folks in Niaja.

Now they are doing well, and hopefully would rep Nigeria by 2014 Worldcup along with some Siasia Boyz, pray for them and don't downplay on their age.

No player ever say the truth about their real age. . .its a fact.

Cheers
We can only hope so. . .
But this has always been the case since 1985. We are the 'Brazil' of age grade football in the world, but it's a pity we have not been able to go beyond that. We have won virtually every global age-grade football, but at the biggest stage(Senior National team:WC,ANC), the story has continued to be that of hope year in, year out.
