Politics › General Tunde Idiagbon? by Jarus(op): 4:00pm On Nov 13, 2008
Recently a thread was opened for people to express their views on General Murtala Muhammed.
Idi-Agbon was another personality that is liked and hated almost with equal measure by Nigerians.
He was the only Vice-President that has his name included in the roll call of Nigeria's past regimes, that you always see Buhari/Idi-Agbon regime. whereas you can never see IBB/Aikhomu or Obasanjo/Atiku regime. I was very young when he held sway but I read he was a very stern and no-nonsense man. He imprisoned almost all the allegedly corrupt politicians of the second republic including his kinsman Saraki.
What do you think of this man? Do you think we need this type of disciplinarian or was this extremism?

For your boss to have referred to you as a dumb is very serious, but I'll not advise you to quit. Having a tolerant boss is something I've always prayed and hoped for; and my boss here is just that. I'm doing Accounting job here but read Economics. I had problems initially but I'm now getting the job.

Persevere. You will master in the job one day.

Some arch tribalist in NL that has a hidden Northern agenda just compiled a list of nonsense from tabloids just to paint the yoruba race black.
I'm a Yoruba and a proud one. I therefore frown at any unjustified attempt to put Yoruba in bad light.
But my only problem with this thread is the starter. If DZ had been the only Yoruba, then I'll say she's being paid in her own coin.

DZ lacks the moral justification to call another person a tribalist because she's the Grand Commander of Nairaland Tribalists(GCNT). I have never known any person so tribalistic as her.
I need not dig out your tribalist threads they are well known.

A man was travelling in a commercial bus from Ibadan to Lagos.
There were several people in the bus, and along the way the man started a discussion bragging to co-travellers in bus that he had travelled far and wide
THE MAN It's good to know many places around the world. I've been to over 75 cities around the world. I have been to London, to Berlin to Sao Paulo, to Toronto, to Washington,to New York, to Amsterdam, just name it. They are all nice cities, and one day you will be like me (referring to people in the bus)
ONE SMALL GIRL IN THE BUS: Daddy, for you to have known all these places, you will know Geography very well o
THE MANHaba, Geography is a nice place, I was there just last week.

Etoo is probably the best African player of all time. rivalled by Weah, Abedi and Roger Milla only

Don't mind those people who would say rubbish about Etoo those days. Okocha never deserved the award in any year.

abiiioooo. . . .but Nigerians will not want to hear this.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Post-Ronnie Eto'o by Jarus(op): 8:38am On Nov 11, 2008
I have been a fan of Samuel Eto'o for long, from his days at Mallorca. I was one of the few Nigerians who was convinced that Eto'o, ahead of Okocha, deservedly won the 2003-5 African player of the year. Many Nigerians who watched not more than EPL will tell you Hayatou did ojoro to install his country boy, Eto'o, as African POtY. This argument is most laughable. Was Hayatou not in charge of CAF when Yekini(1993), Amuneke(1994), Ikpeba(1997) and Kanu (1996,1999) coasted home the coveted awards?

When Eto'o was at his peak in 2003-2005, Nigerians concocted another explanation-"It was because he was playing behind Ronaldinho!!! Who will play behind Ronaldinho and not score plenty goals". This is a frequent argument among my room mates in school, to the extent that one of my friends was comparing Aghahowa with Eto'o. Nigerians sha.

Anyway, the gist is that Ronaldinho has left Barca and my boy continues to bang in goals, sitting atop La Liga scorers' chart with 13 goals. Is anybody still saying without Ronnie,no Eto'o? The truth is that Eto'o was as important to Barca as Ronnie.

If not because of injury, Eto'o could have won African POtY 5 consecutive times.

I can see my thread titled OBAMA:VICTORY FOR THE BLACK in Politics section has been deleted.
I have heard that somebody had been banned in the past for posting anti-Obama comments.
This is rape of freedom of expression, and a wanton display of unprofessionalism and naivety.
The comments were not even anti-Obama;but even if they were, what's wrong with not joining Obamamania.
I think the people in charge of this forum(whether admin or moderators or whoever is doing that rubbish) needs some tutorials on how to accommodate divergent views. Somebody once remarked here that NL is a clique. I disagreed with that person and tried to analyse what was happening. It appears divergent views are not welcomed here.
Making my opinion known on issues is something I enjoy doing. I have better and wider mediums to express my opinion on issues. I only joined NL in 2007, four years after I had been having my opinions published in Nigerian dailies. Over 40 opinion-articles of mine have been published in all Nigerian papers, from Punch,Guardian,Tribune,Daily Trust,TheNation, and even BBC website. This same article whose thread was deleted here will be published by Nigerian papers later this week.

Since I joined NL about one and a half years ago,NL has never been this dull. From late last week till I'm writing now, NL has been dull for me. No hot topic in recent time, no hot posts, previous hot threads have lost their steam. I'm used to Politics,Sports,Culture,Nairaland,Islam for Muslims and Journals and Diaries, and I'm speaking based on these my usual destinations. But if all these sections are becoming dull at the same time, it may not be out of place to say NL is becoming dull these days.

Even topics on Obama's feat were not appealling enough to attract long and interesting discussion.

I can't imagine myself closing NL after just 20 minutes of logging in. Here is a site I once spent almost my whole day, from morning till evening, on. Anyway it's good for me  because I now concentrate very well on my office work. . . . . .  .but NL's dullness is spoiling my leisure period.

Your analysis is a clear stupidity on the extent people will go to write off the blackman's right of judgement on vital issues.

Question for you; do you think that if Obama was not very smart like Palin or a war monger like Mccain, blacks will vote for him?
I cannot deny that some blacks voted because of his skin colour, but its clear that majority voted for his values. We should also have in mind that Mccain got so many votes because of his skin colour too.

Much as I hate him, substantially for his arrogance, I was impressed with his concession speech. This is the first time I see something positive about McCain. Already referring to Obama as my President etc, the guy tried. In our own climes, post-election speech by a defeated candidate, no matter how sportmanly he wants to appear, will still have expression of displeasure, if not outright rejection and condemnation of the election or attack on the winner.

I'm aware that sportmanly political behaviour is not something unusual up there, but still, McCain tried here.

The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Maurice Iwu, on Tuesday in Abuja faulted the United States of America’s election process.

He asked the Americans to learn a lesson or two from Nigeria.

Iwu, who was at the Presidential Villa for a meeting that was not disclosed to State House correspondents, described the Nigerian electoral system as better than that of the US.

Asked to comment on the specific areas the US could learn from Nigeria, Iwu said the Americans should learn to keep a national voters’ register.

He said that they should also learn to hold presidential election in one day rather than scatter it over several days, as they do in the case of early voting.

“They should learn to keep a voters’ register and they should learn to hold elections in one day,’’ Iwu said as he hurried off, declining to make further comments.

Foreign Affairs › Obama: Victory For The White! by Jarus(op): 9:50am On Nov 05, 2008
The American election has come and gone. History has been made. And thousands of years to come, the man Barack Obama will be remembered as for his rare audacity.

But to us blacks singing the Obama songs, can we sincerely ask ourselves these questions:
-Why did I support Obama? Was it because he was black or because of his ideas? Yes, he may have the better ideas, but I'm sure 75% of Africans that supported Obama did simply because of race.

-If all there had been a reversal of ideas between Obama and McCain, that is, if all the Change talk and the mid-way(or soft) course on issues had been McCain's mantra and all the apparent hardline positions had been Obama's talk, would you not have still supported Obama?

Have you asked yourself this question: If the white blindly pitched tent with McCain the way many blacks did, would Obama have won? The answer here is surely NO, because the white are the majority.

But inspite of all the black talk about Obama and the embarrassing 'He is our man' mentality displayed by Africans across the world, the white ignored the racist ranting and went for this man, when in fact, they could have said 'OK, the blacks are pitching tent with their man, let's also go for our man', in which case Obama would not have had 30% vote.
I'm a black, an African and couldn't resist the Obama wind while it blew, but I see this victory as a victory for the white.

I'm already conceiving an article on this for publication in Nigerian dailies.

The question is: Is Abuja a northern state?
The answer is yes if we divide Nigeria into North and South as is common. We often talk of North-South dichotomy.

The other respect is dividing Nigeria into North(loosely to mean Hausa), West(loosely to mean Yoruba)and East(loosely to mean Igbo), Abuja still comes under the North here.

If we now use the six geopolitical classification, Abuja is in North-Central. North already appearing in the classification. No further discussion
