@Ife-eco,

It is true!!!

NFA forgot eagles kit in Lagos while the match was in Ibadan so the cut the track suit into shorts for them to play

We beat burkina 7-1 not 8-1 I think yekini Grabbed a hat trick.

What of NFA that forgot players passport in Ibadan when we were to play an International Under-17 against Benin republic.

They drove to Lagos to get the Passport and wanted to start the match by 7pm

but the Beninoise refused and they got a walk over over Nigeria that was how Benin refused to play the match.

I met one Ghanaian in Chicago and the first thing he said after I told him I was Nigerian was that Ghana beat us at The nations cup!!!

When I sat Him down and told him about Ghanaian football he kept quiet.

From Abdulrazak's era, Abedi,Tony Baffoe, Tony Yeboah, Prince opoku Polley, Ibrahim Ali, Edward Ansar, Odartey Lamptey, Augustine Ahinful,

Asare brothers, Daniel Ado, Bayern's Osei Kuffuor, Charles Akunnor, Isiaka Awudu, Emmanuel Bentil, Dan kamara, Joseph Ansar, Ibrahim Tanko.

He hung his mouth in awe. I told him we naija know so much but we don't make noise like them.

He is one of the NDP coordinator in North America.

Can You believe he invited me to join the NDP North America for the Attah Mills for president campaign and that he would introduce me to JJ Rawlings.

I just told him off that i am busy!! tongue tongue

@ landis and boyscout,

I appreciate when people bring facts, and I've learnt some new things from the facts you brought forward. It's been a while I read books on Nigerian history/politics of the 60-70's. Maybe I still have to dust Dad's history books and read again. I realize I've started mixing up facts. . . . but I try, abi I no try? lol

It's now the NFF not NFA and the first thing they did was change the name and logo everywhere it was referenced. That website is obviously not the offical NFF site.

I find the rivalry very amusing. Little Ghana versus big brother Nigeria. cheesy
I also find the rivalry amusing. . . . . . . . . that's why I go to their site to read about what they are saying about Nigeria.
The latest they are talking about is how Nigeria embarrassed Africa by deciding to drop the U-17 world cup hosting, which just a university can host!!!

PS: So versed are these Ghanaians about Nigerian football that you see them quoting/referring to Nigeria's matches of the 80's and 90's as if they were played yesterday. Den sabi naija football pass many of us here. It was from a ghanaweb ghanaian forumer that I read that Nigeria played a match in ibadan in 1991, and NFA forgot jerseys in Lagos. So Eagles had to wear trouser, and beat B/faso 8-1, it was Finidi's first match for senior national team. I never heard that ooo. Pls anybody here, is it true? Or just a blacmail. . . .but the way the guy recalled it, it looked like truthhuh

aaahhh. . . lol
Do you know history at all?
Immediately Murtala was assassinated on February 13,1976, it was Obj and Alani Akinrinade that displayed rare bravery that led to Dimka's coup foiled. Obasanjo took over Lagos, coming up with brilliant tactics that got Dimka and Bissalla arrested.

You can call Obasanjo anything but not coward. Obasanjo was a General in the real sense of the word!!!

Fanatics, Extremist and Terrorist. these are people who confuse their traditional beliefs with Islam. Theese are people who keep sowing seeds of poison and hatred between Muslims and the rest of humanity by committing egregious acts of violence in the name of Islam. The ethnic cultural people of islam usually fall along these lines.
I disagree. They are words coined by haters of Islam to describe any Muslim that doesn't comform to their style/system. Unfortunately, many Muslims have been gullible enough to fall victims. Osama was once labelled freedom fighter by US, now a terrorist because he doesn't play ball again.

The word I hate most is to be called a MODERATE MUSLIM. If a non-Muslim calls you a MODERATE MUSLIM, tehn you need to watch your Islam, because, as Allah made us to know, if you practice your Islam the way you should, the Christians and the Jews will not like you.

However, much as I hate to use the word to describe a Muslim, I recognize that some Muslims actually go to the extreme in some matters, but that is not the definition of Extremism the way the West and pitiably some gullible Muslims see it.

Extremism is doing what is not founded in Islam, like secluding oneself in one room for many days,in the name of worship, and not going to pray in mosque or Jumaat; married man performing nawafils all night and deying partner sex for many days etc

Also pls note that the following are not extremism, as widely believed:
-Refusing to shake hands with opposite sex
-Refusing to take pictures
etc

1. Benjamin Adekunle(Black Scorpion)

2. Ojukwu

3. Fajuyi

These are War General who did not enrich themselves.
We are not talking about whether some soldiers enrich themselves, we are talking about bravery, gallantry and war tactics. You list is OK though, save that I'm not sure of Fajuyi.

Obasanjo for what?
Obasanjo's role in civil war was monumental. He played a great role for the Nigerian side. He was held in high esteem until he spoilt his reputation as a civilian President

if i may judge u by your locality here, u are not supposed to talk football rather we will need u in times of basketball of american football.
While not holding brief for dayokanu, let me remind u that the fact that somebody lives in US does not mean he shouldn't know/talk about football. While football may not be as popular as BB in uS, Americans still follow football very well.

chidichris:
be informed that nigerians players all started like him(obinna).
Yes, I agree here. In Martins' formative years at Inter everybody thought the new George Weah had arrived, but six years after, he did not live up to expectation
The new Zidane has arrived, so they said about Mikel too in 2005. Rated in 2005 alongside Messi etc in TOP 10 young footballers to watch out for. Now the world is disappointed.

chidichris:
dayokanu,
why do u use the word preffered over cruz and adriano? how many times has he played for inter? he was no where to be found in the champions league.
I believe dayokanu meant 'preferred over Cruz and Adriano in that match(Roma)', not in the whole team pecking order

Sports › "Drogba Is A Diver", Mourinho by Jarus(op): 7:41pm On Oct 23, 2008
Former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has branded Blues striker Didier Drogba ''a diver''.

Drogba has often been criticised for going to ground too easily but was vigorously defended by Mourinho during his time in charge at Stamford Bridge.

Now, just over a year after leaving Chelsea, Mourinho has turned on the 30-year-old while also hitting out at Cristiano Ronaldo, Fernando Torres and Robin van Persie for the same thing.

Mourinho told feelfootball.com: ''I am no longer Chelsea coach, and I do not have to defend them any more, but I think it is correct if I say Drogba is a diver.
''Drogba, Ronaldo, Torres and Van Persie are the divers. Who dives more? Who has won more penalties in recent years? But English football is the one that criticises the divers the most.''

Mourinho claims he is against diving but encourages his players to go to ground if they are fouled.

He added: ''I hate diving, but I'm not happy if a player is kicked by somebody in the box and he tries to remain standing.

''It's very, very rare a referee gives a decision if the player doesn't go down so I tell players not to be naive, but to be fair.''

It's between Brigadier General Benjamin Adekunle(black scorpion) and General Olusegun Obasanjo.
They guys led the Nigerian side in the civil war against ojukwu-led biafra. Adekunle was a master strategist, a brilliant soldier, while Obasanjo's gallantry during the civil war was also highly commendable.

The Generals of the 1960's thru early 80's are the Generals I respect in Nigeria, not those who never went to war and became Academic General.

Apart from Obasanjo other notable civil war heroes include David Bamgboye,Theophilus Danjuma,Alani Akinrinade,David Jemibewon,David Ejoor,Musa Yar'Adua,Mobolaji Johnson, Hassan Usman Katsina and other Generals of the 1960's-70's!!!

Go and read about the 1967-70 civil war.

Politics › Re: Top 4 Influential Nigerians in History by Jarus(m): 11:11am On Oct 23, 2008
I go like this:
1,Abiola: Highly loved and respected in Nigeria, Africa and indeed the world over. Learnt, but not confirmed, that he entered freely where even presidents cannot just enter(white house etc). Defeated Tofa in his native Kano state.Detribalized; loved by all tribes. Pillar of sports in Africa.
2,Ahmadu Bello Though commanded influence only in the north, held the north together and highly respected
3,Awolowo Had yorubaland in his pocket. So influential that people used his name to win elections till 2003, years after his death, until PDP came with their abracadabra and demystify the whole thing. Like Bello, influence also regional

4, To throw a coin between:
Ojukwu Led the Igbo nation to war. What more?
and
Zik: Another influential personality but I think for Ojukwu to have been able to lead Igbos to war, ojukwu apears more influential.

Honourable mention:
IBB: Sacred cow any day!!! So influential that nobody(EFCC,Oputa,ICPC or whatever ) dare not attempt to go near him. People talk and talk and talk against him, but he still goes around the country freely

Gani, Soyinka and others are only widely respected, not as influential. I define influential in the context of ability to control multitude.

But if we don't use Yobo, we may not score too. Remember he handed 6 points to Nigeria in the first round qualifiers. His lone goals against S/leone and E/Guinea(?) (away)respectively earned Nigeria maximum points in both encounters.

I'm not against Yobo being dropped though, just feel he deserves some respect too.

What if TUNISIA win 3 home matches, Win kenya and mozambique away?
Don,t they also have 15 points?

Remember, we had point lock up with Angola, they went ahead on away goal rule.

1. We must score many goals
2. We must be ready to win Tunisia away.
3. We must Score 2 goals in all our away matches, at worst (2: 1) win.
4. We must not concede goals anyhow.
5. If opprtunity comes to, score 10 goals in your home matches.

We must tighten up and be disciplined because you don't know whether one goal
ahead of your stiff contenders could do the magic at the end of the day.
Good talk
Sports › Football: Between Nigerians And Ghanaians by Jarus(op): 10:25am On Oct 23, 2008
When I get to office in the morning two of the first sites I open are Nairaland and Ghanaweb. I have a number of sections of interest(Sports, politics, culture,Islam for Muslims and education) on NL, but  my only business with Ghanaweb is football section. I go there not to read about Ghanaian football, but to know the latest about Nigerian players/national team! I have applied for membership registration but not yet given.

If I take NL as Nigeria's largest and most visited online discussion forum, and Ghanaweb as Ghana's, then i'll like to state the follwoing interesting observations from my experience in both forums:

1,Nigerians are far less concerned about S/Eagles the way Ghanaians are concerned about their national team: On Ghanaweb, the majority of the topics are on their national teams, and interestingly, there are more topics on Super Eagles on ghanaweb than NL. They follow their national teams with passion, opening scores of threads on the performance of their players in Europe and NT.

2,Nigerians are far more concerned about Euro clubs: The bulk of the topics here discuss Chelsea,Arsenal,Man-U,Madrid,Barca etc. These clubs are also discussed on Ghanaweb but not as ubiquitous as on NL

3,Nigeria-Ghana rivalry: This is what makes ghanaweb tick. Nobody cares here about Ghana or any other country, but on Ghanaweb, 99% of the topics, if not directly on naija, contains digression on naija. There are a couple of naija guys there, that defend naija, and the bashing used to be very funny and interesting. They call Yakubu 'fatkubu', obi called 'obenchi' etc.  There is hardly any topic that doesnt contain a statement/post about naija even if the discussion is ARSENAL VS MAN-U, before the thread reaches 3 pages, Nigeria would have gotten mentioned!!!

4,Ghanaweb football more current: Maybe more of the forumers there have unrestricted access to internet than us here, threads are started for latest football happening on ghanaweb than here.

5,More Active Their football section is more active and busy than here. A hot football topic reaches 10 pages within hours of opening, but I doubt if they are better follower of football than Nigerians because there are millions of other football-following Nigerians out there that don't join online discussion forums.

6,419 Adding that this is the synonym for naija on ghanaweb is restating what everybody knows. It comes in different styles--419ja,419geria!!!  They don't trust anything Nigerian. They labelled the newcastle bid as Nigerians in action again(419)-----kai, den fear Nigerians no be small!!!

I can beat my chest that Eagles will beat Kenya and Mozambique home and away, even if it's 1-0, as they did to S/Leone and E/Guinea. But Tunisiahuh?

My suggested line up.

Austin Ejide

Chidi Ordia Yobo Shittu Taiwo

Mikel(defensive M/F)

Osaze Uche Kalu Nsofor

Martins

IK Uche

Actually, better and stronger line up could unfold with the entrance of more Olympic boys.
Good, but don't you think Uche is better as a supporting striker and Martins as top striker?

Although I have already voted against, but if merging them will be to make NL better,management-wise, then I don't have any problems with it again.
However the topics should not be mixed, let culture appear as a sub or whatever u call that childboard
Sports › Re: Super Eagles Vs Tunisia, Mozambique, and Kenya by Jarus(m): 9:21pm On Oct 22, 2008
I learnt all of them came second in their groups. Nigeria should beware of Tunisia. The last 2 times Nigeria-Tunisia met, penalties settled the encounter, one in Naija's favour(2006) and the other in their favour(2004). So Nigerians write off Tunisia at their peril!!

To qualify, no experimentation please, we need to be fielding our best. Our strongest 11, I think is:

---------------------------Enyeama---------------------------

Ordiah---------Shittu-------Yobo-------------------Taiwo--

-----------------------Ayila-------------------------------------

--------------------------Mikel---------------------------------
Osaze----------------------------------------------Nsofor---
------------------Uche------------------------------------------
-------------------------------Martins------------------------

Sub:
Kalu Uche (to come in for Ayila)
Yak(to replace Martins, if not clicking)
Ogbuke(to replace Nsofor, while Osaz moves to left)
Kanu( to just strike fear in opponents from bench, but if needed, come in for Uche as supporting striker)
Utaka (not really needed but just to sit on bench,in case)

Seun, plssssssssssssssssssssssss, don't merge them at all. Both are entirely different. We like them teh way they are. They are both two of my favourites on NL.
Some people hate politics but like culture while some others dislike culture and like politics, if they are merged together, the thread will not be of interest to these people again.
Both threads enjoy enjoy fair patronage/visits. After romance and sports,I doubt if any other section pulls crowd more than politics and culture. Pls let them remain distinct!!!!
