Not a too bad attempt. It once again refreshed my memory of what I had read in the past about Nigeria's military 1960-80's, even though most of the contents were not new to me. The writer's warped demonization of MM is my only problem with the article.

Just let's wait for him to release his book, and see the array of critiques that will follow, even from the people he mentioned in the write-up that are still alive. The release of the book will doubt open a new debate.

Let's wait and see!!!

I'm beginning to regret starting this thread. An innocuous observation of the difference between Nigerians and Ghanaians wrt FOOTBALL PASSION has been turned into a nationalistic war of words now raging beyond Ghana and Nigeria, and extending to Cameroun, Kenya etc. Too bad.

No longer an enviable initiative.

Extremely shocked. Last person everybody thought will be dropped. So powerful and influential. Hence the tears
Politics › Re: Why Did Yar'adua Drop Daggash? by Jarus(m): 3:42pm On Nov 01, 2008
I was also shocked to the marrow to hear Modibbo and Daggash were dropped. They were the least expected. They were perhaps the most powerful members of his cabinet. They too were very shocked, especially Modibbo, who, I reda, couldn't fight back tears. Thank God they were northerners, otherwise some people could have read tribal meaning to Y's action. Anyway,YRD is a no non-sense man.

I lost biros like there was no tomorrow. Thieves in my class then would make Abacha look like a saint.

I got my report card in primary 3 and I got like 18th position in our forthnight tests.

My dad had to sign it but for fear of been beaten I signed it myself which was poorly done.

2 weeks later when my position had normalised to 4th i still couldnt give my dad the report card to sign so he would not see the previous one.

So i signed it again!!! One day he was searching my bag and he found my report card when he checked it he saw some unfamiliar signatures.

He quizzed and and nearly skinned me alive.

This was my favourite. Reading Lolly and Dauda magazine under the desk. The teacher caught us and asked us to narrate to the whole class

what we were reading.

Twisting hymns on the assembly we were taken to the front and flogged in front of all.
lol. . . . . funniest of all!!!

Primary School
-In recess, I used to fight ijakadi(wrestling) with Femi Taiwo(now a phd student in US). Being omo ajepaki I used to beat all of them
-I will pluck oranges and grapes from the schoolfarm(an offence)and pack inside my bag and take home
-In my last term in my former public school, I took 16th position in class and changed it to 6th position. It was a poor job, and I was caught at home
-I did PUNK hairstyle, and the girl beside me also did same hairstyle, and we were called husband and wife
-One of my classmates, whose father was a soldier, used to tell us that they had bomb under their bed at home. I never thought it was a lie until about I recalled about 10 years later
-I used to eat the wooden stick of my pencil and always having ink on my hand when I started using biro. Till today I still eat the base of biro, even in office!!!

Secondary school
- In SS2-3, I will not go to school in the morning, but will go and play football in the school at about 5oclock when my classmates had closed
- I will wrap paper like cigarette and put it inside the mouth of a sleeping classmate
-One day I went to fight with a classmate at felele(the name we called our schoolfarm), beat him and put dry feaces in his mouth
-In JSS2, during exams period, I went with my friend to their house to pluck coconut. Before we came back, they had finished the paper we had that day
-One day in JSS2, we went to swim at a river in the schoolfarm, and we were chased by a senior called Alfa Luku. Alfa Luku was able to pack the clothes of one of us and the guy, naked, was shouting'ALFA LUKU, EDAKUN(Alfa Luku ,plssssssssssss)' From that day anytime we wanted to make jest of the guy we just said 'Alfa Luku, edaakun'

There was a day I was travelling from Ife (or is it Lagos?) to Offa. When we got to Osogbo, we saw many buses and cars parked at a place. We were advised to stop because the 'masters' are on the road

Also recently, I was told 'senior boys' operated in a place.

What other names do they call armed robbers?

I'm particulary surprised at the dropping of Modibbo (FCT) and Daggash. I had thought they were the most powerful ministers in this regime and will escape the shake-up, but it appears Yar'Adua doesn't send anybody
Career › Re: Bankers' Forum by Jarus(m): 10:25am On Oct 30, 2008
Hello, bankers in the house, I'm not a banker but I must admit hate banking job, and I can't work in bank; one, for religious purpose and secondly I don't think I can cope under the stress of closing late and all these outrageous targets. I can't work under outrageous pressure. If at all I will work in bank(God forbids) it won't be in Head Office or Lagos, I'll rather prefer a branch in the North(not village, but preferably state capital, and with airport) where the stress(closing late,hold-up again etc) will be minimal.

If anything the only aspect of banking I like is investment banking. I worked briefly as an investment banker before moving on and i liked it.

Also, please note that bankers are not as rich as people see them. They have tendency to live flamboyantly, expensive clothes, expensive cars etc but inside they are not as rich as you see them. I'm very sure of this.

Did you happen to look on the front page and notice that there are over 200 000 members here? You want him to explain himself to everyone of them? Seriously? huh huh
No. How can I expect him to do that. What I'm saying is that he should have contributed to a thread like https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-186651.0.html and respond to the allegations levelled against him. His silence and going ahead to either lock the thread or ban the poster, is not doing good to his image. That's my own humble opinion. I hope that's not a bannable post.

Nairaland General › Re: Who The Hell Is Seun Osewa! by Jarus(m): 8:24pm On Oct 29, 2008
1, I have not had cause to relate personally with Seun, neither have I crossed his path. But given the number of threads opened to castigate him and the bitter comments I've read from from those that have fallen under his hammer, i'm beginning to accept Seun is somehow autocratic; I'm not totally ruling out jealousy on the part of his critics though. but my problem is Seun has not been coming out to defend himself against all the criticisms that have been levelled against him, especially by these people https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-186651.0.html I think rather than lock the thread, Seun would have done better defending himself against all the allegations, especially undue banning.

2, On the N25B money put on the forum, I don't think it's too much. Remember NL is Nigeria's busiest online forum. It's worth the price. Seun's creativity is not in doubt. I learnt, just like Bill Gate, he also abandoned his studies in Ife for this IT thing.

To buttress the fact that Ghanaweb is more current than Nairaland sports on Nigerian football, I first learnt that Nigerian govt is making u-turn on their U-17 WC decision on GW.
http://discussions.ghanaweb.com/viewtopic.php?t=92600

Like I've said earlier I get latest on Nigerian football on GW, far before it is brought up here. This is one of the main reasons I visit GW-to get the latest on Nigerian football/players!!!
