What did Auba do to help Gabon?
So, you agree, there is no one criteria then? They just toss it around and slot in whoever they wish without a particular pattern? Hi performance in club was too overwhelming to be ignored. |

forgiveness: You mean Eto's impact in only La liga outshined Martin's impact in Seria A, Coppa Italia and UEFA Champions league?
I see. You see why I select people I argue with on NL. This guy is comparing Martins of 2005 with Eto'o that was 3rd best player in the World in 2005! Eto'o that made World 11, European 11, scored 25 league goals with a Martins that scored a paltry 11 Serie A goals! This is ridiculous. |

safarigirl: oya, tell us about Aubameyang and Mane as well....Gabon also qualified for World Cup?
It is only Salah you keep defending, I don't even have issues with Salah....he earned the top 3, what was the impact of Aubameyang for Gabon? Or he made ot solely because of his club performance?
In which case, there is no consistency with the criteria Aubameyang was one of thw Top 30 footballers in the world in 2017 and one of the hottest strikers in the world in the year, no way such an African superstar with terrific performance in 2017 will not make the list of African Top 3. Africa will be a butt of joke having Moses in Africa's top 3 and not Auba. Nigeria didnt even qualify for AFCON 2017. |

enigmaticmotik: I appreciate this man for standing up for Moses, so many people on this thread have been trying to put Moses down. The first question they need to ask is, how many trophies did any of the shortlisted candidate win in 2016/17 season and how important was the trophy? How many of these players' team qualified for the WC before the last match? And how influential were they to the qualification. Moses' performance for both Chelsea and Nigeria was extremely crucial. The caliber of players they compete with in their team also should be put into consideration (my opinion though). Putting all this together, Moses should have been among the three shortlisted player even if he wouldn't be the eventual winner Sorry, Salah was the highest scorer in Africa for the World Cup qualifiers. He also scored goals that stopped Nigeria from qualifying for AFCON 2017. Football doesnt revolve around Nigeria or Nigerian players. Monitor other players too.

The closet we came to produce one was Martins. Unfortunately his ill advised move to Newcastle robbed him that. He would gave been better off at Valentia, forming a deadly partnership with David Villa, Sshould have gone to Valentia Gbam. Anywhere I go outside Nigeria, the last Nigerian players everyone talks about are Finidi, Yekini, Okocha etc, despite their retirement decades ago. |

safarigirl: and since then, it just happens that no Nigerian has ever been good enough for the award?
There are many Nigerians who still don't realise that Nigeria is easily the most loathed African nation by other Africans, and also don't realize that Sentiments play a HUGE part in these things and yes, it is possible for people to gang up against this country and our players will suffer because the other countries simply can't stand us running our big mouths if we win. Tell me a year a Nigerian did better than the eventual winner. And yes, I know some Africans, like Ghanaians, Kenyans and South Africans, dont really like Nigeria, but many other African countries literally idolize Nigerians. I have met many Algerians, Moroçcans and Egyptians in countries like UAE and Saudi Arabia andthey never ceased to talk about Nigerian footballers. Some ofthem know Nigerian footballers more than Nigeria. The conspiracy theory against Nigeria as accountable for not winning APOTY is a fallacy. Nigeria has been producing just average players and a lot of bench warmers in the last 15 years. No way they could have won APOTY. |

safarigirl: Kelechi's International Stats will probably look like that after 56 Caps.
19 games for Chelsea and 2 goals.... He must have been exceptionally useless for them back then.....makes you wonder what some of the Kelechi detractors must have said of him back then....the same ones praising him today must have laughed at him then and said how much of a waste of money he is. Papers would have called him a flop and Chelsea fans on Twitter must have called for his head
But Time changes all things, just like time changed the downward spiral of Moses' career and elevated Salah back to that Premier league he must have had nightmares of from his last experience
I wonder how many Egyptians tossed him aside back then.....
Goes to show, pesin wey good good, they may have hindrances and may not always show their class because of some circumstances, but doesn't mean they are gone forever. I, for one, am not tossing Moses. He is Nigeria's best player at the moment. His ball sense and understanding of football is very rare. I just don't think he did better than the 3 guys in the year under review. I wont compromise that conviction for patriotism. |

J PurpleHouse: I wholeheartedly disagree with you. I mean com'on dude, what are you guys even saying? I read earlier someone saying it would have been injustice to African football if Moses got nominated in the top 3 or even win the best player award. I just laugh. Same thing you guys said years ago when Mikel was best positioned to win the award.
The way some og you castigate and letdown our players, your own countryman, is shorking. This is NOT sentiment, this is me purely being realistic here. I mean, many of you will even go the lenght to dig up facts and figures to back up your arguments on why outher people are better than your own. Yet, these people you are raising to the high heavens will NEVER let their own people down just to support a Nigeria, NEVER! It will never happen in the Northern part of Africa, in the Francophone countries or anywhere else in African. You need to spend time with these people to see how they despise us and constantly feel threaten by our exploits... Yet, they will never ever ever ever pick a Nigerian FIRST above their own,
Moses in all ramification deserve to be in the top 2 of the AFOTY Award, or even win it if Africa were to be sincere enough without being Bias. But no, because they now feel threatened by us, even a mediocre won the award ahead of a magical JayJay Okocha.
My point is simple: you guys should stop letting our players down all in the name of being sincere. This is not sincerity, it is bias, unpatriotic, and ignorance to assume that Caf got it right. If you are a student of International Affairs, especially in Africa, you will understand all my points here.
A player got converted to a new position, played it flawlessly, won the EPL title and did well with his national team and you're here telling me about goals and bla bla bla.
In case you don't know, Moses didn't win the BBC award partly because the English FA and their press, including the players haven't foegiven him for ditching them for Nigeria. This was why Liverpool almost frustrated his life because a certain Gerald didn't want him in the team.
We should learn to see beyond the ordinary and see things as they trully are. Moses deserve our support now and always! I'm just being objective. you may not even be as passionate about Nigerian football/footballers as I am. If I had a vote, I might even vote for Moses out of Nigerian patriotism. But sport analysis is different. Those 3 guys did better than Moses in the period under review. I will be making a fool of myself arguing what I don't believe. All hard facts prove Moses don't deserve top 3. |

There is an obvious bias for offensive players.
For Moses to win it, he has to have an outstanding WC with goals/assists. Nigeria should also get to the semis with moses as the best player. Doesn't stop the fact that Salah, Aubameyang and Mane did better than Moses even in 2016/2017. |
