As indicated in this post, we normally prefer someone that lives in Yaba, probably trekkable distance from our office.
We advertise every year because our Assistants are more like interns. We are not looking for permanent employee - we prefer someone that wants to use us as stop-gap before continuing education (going for HND or DE after ND) or waiting for NYSC.
We do not have the capacity to employ full employee yet.
We make an average of 50k per month. We have other bills to pay (fuel, PHCN, water, office stationery, internet data, annual rent etc), there is no way we can exhaust all our revenue on Admin Assistant pay only. We can only pay what we can afford. |

Mujtahida: i think the reason for the strength of the Iceland team is their MENTALITY. these guys are the descendants of the great warriors VIKINGS and they are very much conscious of this fact and they carry that knowledge into every match. their viking chant is said to be very brutal:"Another tradition, which became famous at the EURO – when almost ten per cent of Iceland’s population headed to France to cheer the team on - is the ‘Thunderclap’. The war cry-like chant drew inspiration from the film ‘300’ and made for an intimidating sight and sound. As one Portuguese journalist wrote at the EURO: "Don't cross Iceland - their Viking chant is terrifying!"
so our players need to be mentally tough, tough like steel cos those icelandic guys will come charging at them with the fury of the vikings. we might not have a unifying meta-arching historical archetype from which our players can draw strength like the Icelanders do but we are a rugged people too, nigeria teaches you to be strong. they should remember that they are Eagles- the only bird that is happy when storms are raging so much so that while other birds hide and take refuge in the crevices of the rocks and crags the eagle rides upon the storms. in fact it flies straight into the eye of the storm because it knows that right inside the storm is always calm. forza Super Eagles Is it the last 2 years they remember they are they descendants of Vikings? |

I didn't know there are still Nigerians still passionate about Eagles like this.
I tried starting discussions like this on NL in 2007/2008 but not many people were interested.

I get to see Safarigirl on SE threads that made fp but didnt know this deep thread existed.

Icon79: But it's true. Let's me explain my hypothesis to you: #1. Iceland will be tougher to beat than Croatia #2. Iceland would lose to Argentina in their first game. This is not because they are not good enough but due to rookie mistakes (playing their first ever match in the World cup and coming up against the great Leo Messi) #3. Iceland would be ready when they face us in the second game because they would've corrected the mistakes they made in match 1. #4. If we lose to Croatia, the pressure to beat Iceland would be too much and that would impact our game and get us exposed for them to exploit #5. I believe we can beat Iceland if we could win or draw the first game against Croatia #6. If we win or draw against Croatia, our chances of qualifying from the group would increase to 60%, because the Argies would win their first two games hence they would most likely have qualified before they meet us #7. Hence, here's what we need to qualify: - win or draw against Croatia (preferably win) - win against Iceland - draw against Argentina (or we may even lost against Argentina provided we were able to win our first two matches)

Joebie: Okay.. let me get this out of the way, i'm not arguing for Nigerian players as regards APOTY.. But I understand, if you got that impression. What I'm simply saying is the same criteria don't always apply year after year, whether its FIFA or CAF awards. Why is that? It's commonsense, it's humans that vote. And you cannot take away politics entirely in the voting system. So what we have is we tally up subjective opinions to make an objective opinion. Does that mean the system is flawed? Not necessarily. That's the rules. Can it be better? Definitely!
As regards your claim, if you can find me a witness or two who has been with you here as early as you have, and can tell us that all you have said is true, then fine.. merely stating it doesn't make it true. Witness? Here were our threads to discuss APOTY 2008. forgiveness: Oga! Those are South Americans. They are marketable.
CAF award was introduced by a French magazine. Finito. Why do you think they gave it to Jean Managa Onguene ahead of Segun Odegbami in 1980 despite the fact that he helped Nigeria to win their first AFCON in 1980? Only French won it before the main CAF award was introduced and unfortunately the other French President favoured his colonial colleagues.
French has influence in FIFA to promote players from their league.
French influence in CAF no get part two. Wetin you think say make Ikpeba win?
However, Nigerian arrogant nature towards other African countries whenever they win has denied them the favour from them.
Yaya winning Apoty because he scored two goals does not hold water for me because Taye Taiwo also scored a goal in the finals that won Marseille their Coupe de la Ligue and he was the man of the match. Don't forget he scored a total of 5 goals from his difficult defensive duty that same 2010/2011 season Yaya toure won the award.
What did Seyedou. Keita do that same season?
Did he also score 2 goals in any finals?
CAF can deceive the mumus not me. How can you hold CAF responsible for awards awarded not by it but by an independent magazine? You have been grabbing straws. CAF started awarding early 90s. And from Nigerians dominated 1993 - 1999. You mentioned French influence in FIFA and I showed you how no French connection stopped Kaka, Ronnie, Messi, CR7 from winning FIFA WPOTY, you brought another straw that they are South Americans (after killing your French connection argument). Lol Guy, stop the petty victimization cry, if you performed very well, no connection anywhere will stop you from winning any award. A Weah from an English speaking small African country as Liberia even won WPOTYand APOTY. Do very well and see whether anyone will deny you any award. I just dont like cry-babyism. |

His winning 2004 APOTY award also included performance for the 2004 part of 2004/2005 - 22 goals in 43 matches for Maĺlorca in 2003/2004 ( including 17 league goals) - And he was signed by Barca in the middle of 2004 and started banging many goals in La Liga and UCL before the end of 2004.

forgiveness: I thought you said Obafemi Martins never did anything?
I only showed you that FIFA stuff to prove you wrong.
However, Martin's performance for 2004/2005 was better than Drogba and Essien combined yet he didn't make the top three. Why?
Drogba only scored 10 goals in the EPL that season and scored a total of 16 goals with just 6 assists yet he came second. Why?
Don't tell me he played for a bigger club than Martins because Inter Milan was a better club than Chelsea then, and don't tell me he won more trophies than Martins because Martins won both the Coppa Italia and Supercoppa Italiana.
Don't tell me Drogba won the league while Martins didn't win because Samuel Eto was crowned with APOTY award in 2003 and 2004 despite the fact that he just won Coppa del rey in 2002/2003 season and nothing with terrible middle table same Mallorca in 2003/2004 though he scored 22 goals..
What did Essien do than that season? You are very funny. Drogba that was the 10th best player in the world in 2005 was the player you want to compare with Martins? Essien, the best player in French League and 22nd in the World for 2005? You talked about FIFA stuff, but those 3 players got bigger recognition by FIFA, and you want the order to change in Africa? |

Joebie: Lol.. How do we know that it is true that U have not guessed wrong? U have to be here in this thread long enough.
I don’t care where the coaches are from, as long as they are not angels voting. Before some of you joined NL not to talk of starting this thread, some of us have been discussing this issue of APOTY every year. I took part in every NL thread on APOTY in the last 10 years! And before I discovered NL in 2007, I have been actively been discussing APOTY award since 1998, offline. When it comes to Nigerian football, only very few folks here are as passionate as I am. This is just being realistic, no Nigerian has deserved APOTY and not given. The nearest was JJ vs Hadji in 1998 and JJ vs Eto'o in 2004, but still Hadji and Eto'o had a slight edge in the 2 years. There is also a school of thought that believes Ghana's Kuffour deserved the 1999 award ahead of our own Kanu. I don't agree with that but it is worth mentioning that even in some of those controversial periods favoured Nigeria. The earlier we realize that no one is sitting somewhere denying Nigerian players any award, the better. If you do very well and shut down the world of football like Eto'o, Drogba, Yaya, Aubameyang etc, no one will deny you any award. Let's face it, what we have been producing in the last 15 years are just average players. Produce world beaters like Yaya, Drogba, Eto'o, Aubameyang etc and see if you will no win it. |

Joebie: it's not soley on the players performance. It's also about his impact on the team. A player who performs well personally, but fails to win a trophy with his team, will have a less chance compared to one who ALSO wins a trophy with his team. What does that tell you? Stop basing it on a player's performance alone.
We can do a Messi vs Ronaldo, since that rivalry started and you will see that FIFA is not infallible. FIFA publishes votes for WPOTY by country captains and coaches. Over 300 coaches and Captains around the world could not be wrong. I dont know for other person, but I have never guessed wrong WPOTY in the last 10 years. It's usually very glaring. |

Joebie: Oga Jarus.. What's the title of this thread..
wait until we come to a European thread, then we can make that argument. This thread is to support Nigerian players. But that does not mean we should throw away logic. That said, the question remains, what should be the criteria for CAF. I made a list of 8 parameters. Until CAF is clear about this, and their criteria doesn't have to be dependent on FIFA's shortlist/criteria. The point is we need to be clear about ours. Abi do we always have to wait for oyibo, before we know who is worth what? I repeat our shortlist don't have to be dependent on FIFA's. That's colonial mentality. We have to be clear about ours, then we can debate from there if it's a good criteria or not. I dont see any big deal in assessing player's performance. It is usually very glaring except for anyone with some nationalistic biases. |

Abi can you explain why FIFA recognized Martins if thoroughly he did nothing?
Dong Shortlisted for FIFPro Young Player Award China U-20 forward Dong Fangzhou has been shortlisted with some of the game's biggest names for the first FIFPro Young player of the Year award, which will be presented on September 19 in London. FIFPro, the worldwide representative organization for professional players, released their shortlist of 12 names for the award on Thursday, which included the 20-year-old Chinese striker alongside Holland's Arjen Robben, Brazilian Robinho, Portugal's Cristiano Ronaldo, Freddy Adu of the United States and England's Wayne Rooney.
Dong was signed by English Premier League giants Manchester United from China Super League side Dalian Shide in a high-profile transfer last year. He spent last season at United's feeder club, Royal Antwerp, scoring six goals as they finished fourth in Belgium's second division.
Dong was also part of the China squad that finished second at the AFC Youth Championship in 2004, scoring the winner in his side's 1-0 victory against Qatar during the group stage.
FIFPro Young player of the Year award nominees:
Dong Fangzhou (China), Javier Mascherano (Argentina), Wayne Rooney (England), Arjen Robben (Holland), Bastian Schweinsteiger (Germany), Robinho (Brazil), Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal), Cesc Fabregas (Spain), Rio Mavuba (France), Giorgio Chiellini (Italy), Obafemi Martins (Nigeria), Freddy Adu (United States).
(China Daily via FootballAsia.com August 22, 2005)
http://www1.china.org.cn/english/sports/139317.htm Martins made the initial long list for 2005 APOTY but could not have made the Top 3. Tell me which of Eto'o, Essien and Drogba you think he could displace as top 3 for that year? He was nominated for the long list FIFPro Young footballer of the year, how do you want him to make final 3 ahead of Etoo, Drogba and Essien that were nominated in Top 30 in the world for senior category? Eto'o and Drogba were among FIFA WPOTY Top 10 in 2005. Essien also made the initial shortlist and came 22nd in the world. Essien was also voted best player in French league for 2004/2005 season. These are people you think should not make Africa's top 3 ahead of Martins in 2005? My Naija people need to follow other players too. Football doesnt revolve around Nigerian players only.
