Let's use these images as a better illustration, I had to walk round the whole market before I selected these wood from a dealer and it was a long story. The quality of wood in our markets are depreciating daily.

I came to this market and found out that there were no 'complete' woods of 2x4x16 of good quality, I was looking out for hardwood that is very reliable. There was simply none on the stalls, so I went and waited on one man I knew that always brings in new stock on Mondays. I arrived the market early on Monday morning to see his boys offloading wood. They wanted to load my truck and they started selecting good wood and removing them, I am very familiar with this sorting trick and I raised an objection to that. I stopped the loading more than once, when the owner came, he tried to persuade me that this is how the whole wood came in from Benue state, I knew, but why would he sell to me the wood they sorted, why not just offload everything since I was buying up to 700 lengths?

The owner later helped to speak to them, and they gave me something considerably better than what is obtainable elsewhere. I also paid more for the supply. The trick is that wood gets sorted as they offload, good ones are placed one side while fair ones are placed on another side, then expert loaders will arrange the fair ones to look neat and straight, to confuse those who are not conversant with their tricks. The good ones sorted differently are sold at a higher cost to those who appreciate quality.

Congratulations sir. It's advisable to have another alternate source of power to complement the solar system and include it in the planning.
I wish I could advise on the wind turbine from personal experience but the guy that did my wind turbine couldn't get it to work even though it has been mounted.
Raining season would make solar charging very slow with the battery draining to very low level that won't make it last except you want to use phcn or generator to be complementing it.
Thanks gbadexy.. I intend using it for the first 2 years with generator as back up, before switching to local power. I never paint the house sef

LASEPA GOES TOUGH ON IRON, STEEL MANUFACTURERS*

*… Issues "Stop Work" Order To Manufacturers in Ikorodu*

The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency, LASEPA, has issued a "stop-work" order to two Steel and Iron manufacturing companies in Ikorodu, Sun Flag and Top Steel, for contravening safety rules and permissible environmental standards.

The General Manager, Dr. Adedolapo Fasawe, who led the enforcement team to the two companies, decried the squalid and unsafe working conditions, as workers were observed conducting their duties with minimal risk control to staff and surrounding communities.

She described the situation at the facilities as “grave”, citing the negative effects to the immediate and long-term wellbeing of those working and living in the area, especially the children, elderly and infirm, who are most affected by the gross misuse of the shared environment.

While decrying inherent risk of explosions, fires and other public safety concerns owing to the poor situation of the environment, the General Manager revealed that the visit to the factories was in response to complaints received from residents, environmental monitoring data and the outcome of surveillance conducted by LASEPA three days prior to the official visit.

Her words: “The visit revealed that most of the activities going on in the Ikorodu industrial area do not comply with Lagos State environmental standards, as well as international best practices vis-à-vis industrial waste management and circularity. As a government, we will continue to do everything within our power to ensure that the quality of air is permissible and that the land, soil, flora and fauna are not negatively impacted by industrial activities”.

“Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu led administration in Lagos State encourages recycling but not at the expense of the people's lives and the environment. A lot of the machines being used here at the two companies for recycling are archaic, poorly maintained, not fit for purpose under current and future environmental standards. This is because they release large quantities of noxious gases, fumes and other hazardous substances which are a direct result of prioritising profit over the planet and people”, the LASEPA boss noted.

Speaking further, the General Manager revealed that the State Government, in partnership with the World Bank, has sited six pilot Air Quality Monitoring Stations located in Akoka, Jakara-Island, Ipaja, Ikeja, Lekki and Ikorodu, to track all vital air quality indices as well as provide data on distribution and flow of pollution events from source to receptors.

Fasawe said all the sealed up plants must provide an environmental action and clean-up plan, a detailed environmental management policy document, and normalise all necessary regulatory documents and taxes before being considered for reopening.

Mr. Pankaj Mutreja the General Manager, Sunflag Steel Nigeria Ltd and Mr. Adilya Pathalk of Top Steel Company both agreed to comply with all environmental laws of the State and curb environmentally damaging activities.

Ikorodu residents commended the Agency’s visit, calling for quick intervention and remediation directed towards restoring the natural state of the currently affected areas including Odo-Nla and Odo-Kekere areas.

I think its batch differences, it happens in many products like tiles and paints. Sometimes, a range of items produced by a shift will tend to be different in either texture, taste or colour from the others of the same company. It happens because of lack of attention to mixing ratios before production, or because of finish stages not adequately supervised. A lower or higher temperature of heat in a kiln or oven could make two products made on the same day to turn out differently.

In my former company where I worked, we had a whole department called quickly control department. They are tasked with making sure every product is identical in both taste and look. I dont know if other companies adhere to such type of scrutiny before pushing their products into the market. That might be why we are seeing some tiles that are changing colour after they are laid.

Is the internal and external screeded.
The quantity shouldn't be an issue so far you have the measurements. I have been adequately tutored here on giving proper quantity required from measurement.
If the internal is not screeded, you may use regular emulsion. If it's not screeded and you want a smooth, flat finish that can be cleaned, you may prime and use matte, satin or silk depending on your budget and preference for sheen. As long as the plastering is neat and smooth. Otherwise you may want to screed if you want the flat paint with sheen.
Same goes for the external. You may use premium grade emulsion for the external if not screeded. If screeded, you may use matte or silk. If not screeded and you want the paints aforementioned, you may prime it first.
Internal is screeded but want to sand paper the external

I started with fire retardant paint production through partnership with foreign companies and they gave me the necessary technical support.
I had formulation for different types of paints and when intercolor was among the very few supplying basecoat which they import then, I was already producing and supplying basecoat.
I met and discussed with some well known paint brands to partner but it didn't work out and when the demand for the fire retardant paint was low, I switched to regular paint since the materials are mostly the same without the active components.
I got some former workers from paint companies to help produce with my formulations and tried local sourcing of materials.
When I started producing satin paint over a decade ago, most of the budget range paint companies don't produce them. Only the big brands and agents importing the american brands. That was how I got to have my satin and eggshell substituted and later replaced with the foreign products by a marketer of the company importing them to her network base.
I produced for N2500 per gallon she later convinced her clients her brand is equally as good at slightly lower price and they have been using it for sometime already. A gallon of behr, benjamin Moore and ralp Lauren they sell was N8000 per gallon then.
I think I could say I was foreign trained and my biochemistry background helped to some extent.
I could still formulate paints with uncommon features in Nigeria market.
I bet you don't get to see wax based water repellant paint in the market.
I'm at painting stage now.. confusion everywhere

The only paint that I’ve used that has given me total satisfaction was locally made. Most of the imported paints I’ve used are sparingly used to creat accent and original effects.

Question for Painters

If I may ask, how long should a paint last before it’d need a retouch/repainting?

I’d also like to ask “Are there paints that lasts forever?”
Which one

If the wall is screeded, you may use matte or satin depending on budget and preference for sheen. Both are cleanable.
If the wall isn't screeded, you may prime and use the two types of paint as above.
Otherwise, you may use regular emulsion. No screeding or priming is required.
Which paint maker is advised to use between Dulux, Berger, capl, csi etc and what's there coverage
