BY VINCENT UJUMADU, Awka VEHICULAR traffic was disrupted for several hours at the ever busy Onitsha –Owerri highway yesterday as students of the National Metallurgical Training Institute, NMTI, protested an alleged plan by the federal government to scrap the institution or merge it with another one yet to be named. Displaying placards with inscriptions that read; “President Jonathan the proposed plan to scrap NMTI is counter productive”, Those calling for scrapping/merging of NMTI are enemies of the state and youths”, “You cannot talk about technological development and at the same time be scraping the intuitions that promote the manpower. “Orasanya committee goofed and government should disregard it” and “Where are the children of those calling for scrapping of NMTI”. Tension has been mounting in the institution since the Orasanya committee that looked into the structure of government recommended the scraping or merging of the institution, as students of the institution expressed worry about what would be their fate should the institute be scrapped by the federal government. President of the Students Union Government of the institute, Mr. Emmanuel Nwora, said the students decided to protest against the plan to prevail on government not to implement the Orosanya recommendation as it concerns the institution. He said: “The federal government has over the years, been marginalizing us and treating us as mere slaves. We are protesting against the recent report by one Orosanya committee which had advised the federal government to scrap NMTI or merge it with other institution. We are also using this medium to appeal to Federal government to look into the institution with a view to upgrading it to a degree awarding institution. “They say we are craftsmen, but we are not craftsmen. We are students of a tertiary institution and that is why we want the institute to be upgraded to a degree- awarding institute” They also said that they were not comfortable with the certificate awarded to the graduates of the institution, adding that they are not recognized in the labour market. Reacting on the action of the students, the director of the institute, Mr. Joseph Ajamolaye said the protest was unnecessary because there is no official statement or any circular yet to the effect that the federal government was planning to scrap NMTI, Onitsha. His words: “We just read these things on the pages of the newspapers. The committee has made its recommendations, but the government has not carried it out. So, we want the students to calm down because their agitations are being looked into”. He however explained that the institute was not initially meant to admit students, but as a training institute for the staff and workers from the steel industries, noting that the admission of youths became imperative when the fortunes of the steel industries started going down. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2012/06/students-on-rampage-over-alleged-move-by-fg-to-scrap-nmti/ |

BENIN CITY—THE Benin monarch, Oba Erediauwa, yesterday, frowned at what he described as the encroachment on lands belonging to his kingdom by some Ijaw youths in Ovia South West Local Government Area of Edo State. He urged the Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG, zone 5 Benin, Mr Hashimu Argungun to find solution to the problem. The Oba, who spoke when the AIG paid him a courtesy visit, at his palace, also commended the state Police Commissioner, Mr Olayinka Balogun for his efforts in combating crime in the state. The monarch lamented that some Ijaw people were stubbornly occupying large expanse of land, even when the Supreme Court had ruled against them. He delegated the Iyase of Benin, Chief Sam Igbe to liaise with the AIG to find lasting solution to the issue. He expressed confidence in the new AIG Argungu, saying “from your qualifications and working experience, I am happy your quality is deployed to zone 5 and I wish you success in fighting crimes in the state. “The CP in Edo State is doing well in trying to wipe out all forms of crime, including kidnapping. He is open to public discussion and interaction as a way of finding solution to insurgent of crime in the state.” Meanwhile, AIG Hashimu has promised the people of hitch free election, come July 14, gubernatorial election in the state, assuring the monarch of getting to the root of the matter in Ovia South West and other areas, where people had encroached on the land. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2012/06/ijaw-people-re-encroaching-on-my-land-oba-of-benin-tells-aig/ |
oddy4real: would you just hold it! It is the practice everywhere in the world that whenever there is VIP movement in the airport, then no other plane can land. Go and ask if another plane can land in the USA if Obama is landing. And this didn't start with GEJ. U don't have to find a way to link him to every imbroglio...Illiteracy and ignorance... You go school? This is not about GEJ but if a "VIP" wants to land, it means I will not land, even after paying for my flight?! Do you even know your rights as a human being?! |
ABUJA — The House of Representatives, yesterday, insisted that President Goodluck Jonathan must honour the lower chamber’s invitation for the purpose of throwing light on the security situation in the country. In a briefing, yesterday, Zakari Mohammed, said the House was constitutionally empowered to invite the President “after all, he had also invited us in the past.” Zakari said contrary to claims in some quaters that the invitation was unconstitutional, the House acted within its powers. He said: “The constitution gives the House the power to invite anybody if we are conducting any investigation, adding that the silence on the date the President should appear before the lawmakers was to allow President Jonathan choose a date that would be convenient to him. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2012/06/jonathan-must-come-to-nass-reps-insist/ |
basher: Your logic will only make sense if d attitudes of d N & SS towards d Igbos are different from the SW.My point was, its not only Yorubas they do not employ but they also do not employ SSoutherners and Northners. This does not mean Igbos are tribalistic, not at all. I am just saying Diamond Bank employ mostly Igbos. It has nothing to do with the civil war or money etc! |
Good GEJ!!! But please we need you to arrest the sponsors of BH asap if not, these investors will leave! |
basher: You've got a point here. Also, how many Yorubas are prepared to go and work in a bank filled and controlled by "omo Igbos"? Many would rather remain jobless. This probably explains the situation at diamond bank!Logic dictates that SSoutherners and Northerners should have a sizeable portion of such banks if that was the case, isn't it? C'mon man, let's think! ![]() |
samkoro: Yorubas open accounts only in Yoruba banks, they rarely open account in any Igbo owned bank cos they feel that if situations arises all their money may be converted to five naira just like Awolowo converted all Igbo money to five pounds, the way Awolowo did. To Igbos after the war. That's the bitter truth.Where in the world did you get this from?? You high on cheap crack ![]() If that was the reason, it means Northerners and SSoutherners are also scared of putting their money in any Igbo owned bank. If not, Northerners and SSoutherners should also be equally opportuned to get employed in Diamond bank but that is not the case. Guy, you need serious deliverance. You have issuesssss! |
yohanna zack: Nwazurike or wat is he calld is notin but a coward. I wl alwayz miss sombody like ojukwu. When there was crisis in kano sometime ago. He told d ibos pple not to run to anywhere, but face their enemies dat they are nigerians too. Nobody shuld intimidate dem in anyway. Here comes a useless man calld nwazurieke callin dem to come back home as if he is goin to provide jobs fo them. Instead of him to attack dos hausas who are in d eastern part, he is openin his ogogoro mouth askin dem to com home, is he goin to feed them and their families. Nonsense man.O boy, don't stay and fight any useless fight. If you do, you will just die over nothing! A word is enough for the wise! |
tekasy: Come whıch home?southeast!! Anywayz ı dıd left north to thıs southeast onıtsha and kıdnappers neva allowed me cruıse ma rıdes and leave freely as ı do ın the north... Mr uwazurıke fırst of all you guyz shld call all those touts to cautıon. B4 advısıng anyone to come over there.Come down to the SS or SW. Choose any and you'll be fine! |
afam4eva: You're right about Diamond Bank. I wonder of it's the same with MTN Nigeria since they're both owned by the same person.Don't know about MTN. chidike: i am an Igbo, but i must say that i agree about Diamond Bank, from. Kaduna to abuja, most of their staff i know are Igbos. Me sef dey wait to work there after NYSC. *winks*I'm glad you agree. Na so Diamond bank bi! ![]() So bruv. Enjoy yasef jare. I pray you get the job! |
Onlytruth: Much as I hate getting involved in what people choose to call themselves, I equally hate when someone chooses to borrow a derogatory word from Yoruba Nairalanders to describe his Igbo neighbors. That is very very dumb IMHO.You must be high on new palm wine! |
publisher: I have been made to understand that in order to increase your chances of getting a good job in certain Nigerian banks, you must belong to the right ethnic group.OP, the highlighted are 90% spot on! |
From a family member's experience and a friend's experience, DIAMOND BANK is the worst of them all. You hardly ever find a person from another ethnic group. Other banks still employ other ethnic groups even though it can be difficult but Diamond Never!!! If you like, get a PhD in economics and finance, do ICAN tire, you no go still get the job if you are not Igbo. Even if the branch is in Warri, Ibadan, Jos, Bauchi etc.If you are not Igbo and you got a job in Diamond bank, GOD really loves you! PS: This is not to say Igbos are tribalists etc. Diamond bank is just a different kettle all together! |
Funny stuffs! ![]() |
Samkoro, have you ever asked yourself why a person from another ethnic group has NEVER made it in the SE You think they are not hardworking?? Do you think they are not smart enough?Have you ever entered a Diamond bank branch (anywhere in the country)?? |
Can someone tell us the meaning of Yoruba, Yoruba, Ewu nama, Aboki nama, betrayal SS etc. Yet you portray yourselves as people that are being picked on. . . .please, its nauseating! |
samkoro: Why I said Igbos understand yoruba subtle ways is part of what ur doing now;trying to curry favour from housa;mentioning your master all in a bid to fight Igbo.Is there any group ethnic gruop called housa-Yoruba? All Iv known is housa-fulani.Listen if want us to compete for housa favour,we know how to do that better?ok Cos if you betray today,we'll patiently wait for our turn to revenge, and that's it.Bros, its only your kind that will "like" your comment because frankly, you are equally guilty of what you accused Alj Harem of. You see, this hypocritical Hausa-whatever master relationship was started by the Igbo (NCNC, remember). . . . .I no even get una time today! |
Slizbeat: There is 1 thing u igbo haterz or so dnt undastand. If biafra wants to opt out of nigeria today, they will. The entire igbo nation arund d world is larger than the yoruba and hausas combined so stp tinking lyk a fool. D igbos only dnt want to n even d war in 67 wasnt to divide nigeria bt 2 map awt a region of biafra nt until gowon and co. went against it motive. Imagine nigeria, the great britian, the u.s, the russians and the entire arab nation to join forces to fight a little biafra 4 a whole 3 yrz, smh. Wat a shame. Imagine wat wud apen if it was 2 begin again. Do u tink nigeria wit her allies wud winI guess other ethnic groups including Yorubas and Hausas have never traveled out, abi?! In fact, there are indigenous Hausas in other countries (Niger and co) and there are also indigenous Yorubas in other countries (Benin, Cuba and co). Stop making silly statements. |
I wouldn't be surprised if this guy was framed because he refused to be bribed! |

I didn't know OP was a god that determines who gets power and who doesn't. SMH! |
I'm in LOVE with Ogugua88's post!!! |
funny stuffs! |
Gbawe: Indeed. This is the same chap who once suggested that a Yoruba person can never get a job on merit if in direct competition with an Igbo man. If he has any decency in him he will confess that I indeed took him up on it and told him off about peddling the sort of hollow principles of sectional supremacy Hitler would have been proud of. He never sees individual ability, talent or opinions. Thanks Gbawe. I quite remember that statement yet the bigot was made the Eze Ndigbo aka the representative of Igbos on NL. Now that he is an ethnic supremacist, what does that say about the rest?? Even an Ada Ndigbo Ogugua88 could smell his supremacist Nazi-like ideas on the internet, not to talk of us non-Igbos. |
Gathering of Igbo supremacist! ![]() |
Onlytruth: To all other readers. That is a lie and you know it! We all know what you stand for on this forum! |
Ogugua88, YOU ARE BLESSED! |

Now you believe them?!!!
