Hi guys,
I’m relatively new here,
Bsc Masscommunication
With 5 years work experience in both the media and customer service
Graduated with 3.67/5.0
My questions are;
And how do I go about this WEZ evaluation??
And are there schools that accept unofficial transcript for admission purpose.
Is GRE so sacrosanct in the US application journey
Please I’m open for advice, guidance and all

Can't say about WES evaluation because I didn't do it. It wasn't necessary for me.
Is GRE sacrosanct? Yes if you want to get funding.
If you are financially buoyant, then you can ignore GRE, else u have to take it.
As for unofficial transcripts, yes alot of Universities in the US do accept unofficial transcripts.
Just do your research. That's why we have Google though

Well straight to the point, got my visa approved.
Going for Masters with no scholarship or GA/TA position.
Applied for myself, husband and two kids!
Boom like a miracle the lady in Abuja approved our visas without much questions.
Here’s to encourage someone not to give up

Share your transcript please.
We would love to learn from your experience

Hmm, ok, but my plan is to do a phd after my masters, why should that be a bad plan? Like I mentioned, i want to return to be a lecturer at my alma mater and a master's is not enough for that, I need a phd too. Also, I already discussed this plan with my potential supervisor who said it was sensible. So, if I told the VO I only wanted to do a Master's thesis, how would a master's benefit me upon returning to Nigeria? I wouldn't be able to use it to lecture or anything, so what would be my plan in that aspect?

Sir I also want to Lecture too
As a matter of fact, I had applied to some universities before but I couldn't get it coz I didn't have an msc degree. The requirement for a graduate assistant position here in Nigeria is a masters degree.

So a masters degree already qualifies you sir.

Truth is telling them you want to do a Masters and PhD tells them that you are not going to come back
I'm not in their mind Sha. I may not know.

Visa denied this morning at Lagos embassy. Gurus please help me take a look and suggest ways to improve. I got no funding from the university so my COA was $40K.

Me: Good morning madam
VO: no answer
VO: Pass me your passport and i20
Me: I did
VO: starts typing then asks where are you going?
Me: I am going to pursue a masters degree in Animal Science at the University of Nebraska Lincoln
VO: what are you doing presently?
Me: I'm a poultry farmer
VO: So what will this degree do for you?
Me: My goal is to pursue both my masters and PhD at the same time in the same unl which I have discussed with my supervisor. After my PhD, I intend to return to Nigeria to take up a lecturing job at my alma mater. I have always been interested in teaching agriculture to students and I love to give back to my alma mater where I earned my 1st, degree. A PhD in animal science will position me as a great candidate for the job.
VO: points to i20 and asked who is paying this $40000?
Me: my uncle
VO: what does he do?
Me: he is a real estate investor, who manages my late grandfather's real estate properties in Lagos and Abeokuta. He was the one who sponsored my high school and college education and I lived with him all through my time in college.
VO: How is he going to pay?
Me: I have his bank statement with me as well as my late grandfathers will wherein he stated that proceeds from the real estate industry can be used for the educational programs of his children. At this time I wanted to pass the bank statement to her but she said no.
VO: what type of account does he have?
Me: savings
VO: Does he have a US account?
ME: NO. I will be the one to open the account when I get there and he will send the money into my account and then I will pay it to the school.
Me: Passes the financial statements to her again
VO: (She collects it and cross-check. The statement has a balance of about #30000000)
VO: Okay but I'm sorry you did not qualify at this time. You can reapply.

Twoods, Fairheart, lagosismyhome, other gurus, pls kindly contribute your thoughts

Apparently you didn't prepare well.
If you had presented your transcript here, people would have helped you go through it.
How can you want to do masters and PhD. Do you know how many years that is?. The VO already sensed your jakpa instinct. Your statement already suggested that you want to stay back after your masters to do PhD. This already was a red flag.

That is not true. Your DS160 must not be in same location. We have seen people change or reschedule their interview dates without changing their location or filling a new DS160 form.

what of those based in other parts of Nigeria, are they supposed to put an Abuja or Lagos address?

Whether you are in kaduna, portharcourt or Jalingo
You only have two embassy points in Nigeria which is Lagos and Abuja.
If you intend having your interview in Lagos you fill Lagos on your DS-160 and if it's Abuja, you do same.

If u are going to switch from Lagos to Abuja and vice versa, you will need to fill a new DS-160 form. You cannot use a lagos DS-160 form for an interview in Abuja and vice versa.

I will like to understand something, should he have kept the school's address as the address where he will be staying in USA? And I used my school as my contact person not my aunt

I have a similar case although I am yet to go for my interview

Exactly
It's very safe to use the school's address as where you will be staying. I have relatives in the US but I put the schools address as where I will staying.
Like I said, the whole idea to make them not sense the jakpa mode.
So you need to be very careful in approaching this.
For those who are yet to fill theirs
Use your school address as where u will be staying on ur DS-160
I may not know anything Sha
Just a suggestion

Hi guys
Could there be any reason for rejection after getting a white paper at the interview. Is there a background check going on or what kind of issue could arise??

Giving you the white paper doesn't end the journey
I think dey run a kinda background check to cross check the information u gave in ur DS-160. I think they also check ur social media pages to be sure you are not some form of threat.

Hello, I have a similar issue just that my brother stays in Georgia while my school is in florida. He is also my sponsor. Is that bad?

Its not bad
But like I have always maintained
The whole idea is to make them not sense the jakpa mode.
Fine u have a sponsor abroad, which is fine but u need to make them know you will be living on campus.
But then it becomes difficult Sha if your sponsor is within the same vicinity as your intended institution.
You have to be really smart when communicating this to the VO else e go hard to convince them

Date: 15/07/2021
Location: Abuja
Time: 8am
Status: Delayed

VO: Good morning sir
Me: Good morning

VO: I can see you are going to Bowie state University for your masters degree in computer science is that right?
Me: Yes, I'm actually going to continue my program, I did the Spring semester online.

VO: Ok this is your first time going to resume in-person?
Me: Yes

VO: where do you work
Me: I work as a web developer in xyz Company where we build and deploy tech solutions to business individuals and NGOs, we are basically into web development, mobile app development both android and IOS, software development.. ( VO cuts in)

VO: are you going to come and work with them after graduation
Me: I will come back and continue as a senior web developer.

Everything was going fine until the VO saw that my school is located in the same city where my sponsor lives‍♂️‍♂️‍♂️
That has been the red flag in my profile but I ve been praying for miracle. I didn't have the information on time.

VO: Who is sponsoring you
Me: My brother Dr xyz will be sponsoring me. ( VO already saw his address in my DS-160 I guess)

VO: where does ur brother live
Me: I now knew I'm in trouble. He lives in xyz, He is a US citizen.

That was where she lost interest I guessed. She typed for about 15 seconds and denied me. No further question.
‍♂️‍♂️‍♂️‍♂️‍♂️‍♂️

Gurus in the house please what do I do now. Do I change school to another state? Pls I need advice

That was where u got it wrong bro
Only the schools address you should have put.
The VO already sensed the Jakpa mood instantly.

VISA APPROVED!
F1 (Fall 2021)
Abuja
July 2021
COA: 32K
First attempt
No GA or TA
Lasted not more than 2 minutes
Long post, short transcript

Little background...
It was a battle getting an interview date.
When I first booked, the earliest date was 2 months later than my school's resumption. Had to book anyway and requested for an expedited interview.
This was approved after 2 hours, thankfully.

Even after the Approval, there were no closer dates available. I did an email and got the usual response "...Please be advised that the availability of slots is at the sole discretion of the US Embassy."

God was still working.
After a few days, I checked and saw a date few days after my resumption date. I was happy knowing we're getting somewhere even if we were not there yet.

At this point, I felt I had exhausted all options. I was considering switching to Lagos (thank God I didn't). I didn't lose hope. I was working with faith.

Next thing, I saw someone make a post here in the afternoon about open dates in June ending and first week of July.
I hurriedly logged in to my account. Lo and behold, I could see those dates and quickly rescheduled to a more suitable and earlier date.

Guess what? In the middle of rejoicing and celebrating, I got 3 texts messages in 3 hours from a +1 number tagged 'US Visa Collection' on Truecaller. It read:
Your B1/B2 visa appointment at the US Embassy has been cancelled. Please check your email for more details.
Checked my email and saw the same mail from an address that had a semblance with the official email the Embassy uses for correspondence.

Oh boy! I hurriedly logged in to my dashboard and saw my appointment was still "scheduled". No shaking.

Mind you, I applied for an F1 not B1/B2.
Mischief makers at work.

Next was to prepare for my interview proper.
Through prayers and fasting, I prepared. Reached out to few people to join in prayers and prep. me. I had friends review my transcript and I had several video mock interview sessions.
S/O to Uche, @kemlaughs (for the several zoom mock sessions), Ekong, Mag. for y'alls commitment.

Long story short...
Arrived Abuja few days before to get used to the environment (lodged at Xcence Guest House by Emeka Anyaoku Street, Garki Abuja). 'Twas affordable and #500 away (bolt) from the Embassy and Close to a pharmacy/supermarket and big and affordable restaurant (Ojuelegba).

The big day came... arrived 2 hours before time. Of course I met with the mandem: "Bros staple your passport", "You don print this and that? You go come back meet us oo"... thanks to those that shared their experience and the guidance from Uche and @kemlaughs, I came prepared with necessary documents and didn't pay attention to them.

While waiting, I spoke in tongues, sang songs of praise and worship. It boosted my confidence.
Next we were asked to queue up at the gate, searched by the security then ushered into the Embassy.

After few minutes, those for 7:00am were called up to queue. The Embassy staff arranged our Int'l passport, signed I-20, passport photograph and DS-160 confirmation page accordingly.
Next we went through another round of check (airport standard) before we went to the next part of the building.

There, we queued up and went along with the documents sorted out (int'l passport, signed i-20, passport photograph and DS-160 confirmation page). We went to the interviewing section twice.
First was the final scan/verification of our documents, next was for the interview proper.

In there, it felt like it was judgement day grin
People rejoicing (I saw a man legit screaming "Jesus loves me" very expressively while the guy walking next to him was really disappointed and sad).
Mixed feelings, tension building up but I had to maintain beauty wink
Thankfully, the security started singing Obinasom by Mercy Chinwo and I joined in. It boosted my faith in God for a great outcome.

I kept declaring "My case is different".

In my very before, people were approved and denied.
Please, don't lose focus or let any of what you see mess up your psych. Don't even try to profile any VO.
Que sera sera...what will be will be.

Interview proper:
After exchanging pleasantries and biometric verification:
VO: I see you're going to Ohio University.
Me: Yes, that's right.

VO:Why Ohio University?
VO: What is your concentration?
VO: Who will be sponsoring your education?

VO: I will be approving your Visa (while handing me the white paper). And she talked about the covid protocol and all.

It felt like a dream. Had to shake myself to confirm this was real.

I return all the glory to God for doing what only Him could do...for taking the glory.
Big S/O to Uche for encouraging me right from the start in 2018/2019 till date. For reviewing my transcript and guiding me every step of the way. God bless you.
Big S/O to @kemlaughs for preparing me... gave me a lotta tips and prayer points and encouraged me to always stand in front of the mirror. Thanks for the mock-up sessions
S/O to Ekong and Mag.

Remember, the heart of a king (in this case, the VOs) is like the rivers of waters which God directs and He orders them to go whichever way He pleases.

Prepare and pray.
Trust God.
Celebrate grace.
#mytestimony

Wow
I connect to this kind of grace.
The shortest interview I've seen
And yet you got the Visa
This kind grace ehn
