An armed robbery suspect has been killed after men of the Nasarawa state police command foiled a robbery attack along Gidan Gambo road in the state on Sunday, January 3, IgbereTV reports.

A statement released by the spokesperson of the command, Ramhan Nansel, states that at about 10.50pm on Sunday, the Police Command received a distress call that hoodlums suspected to be armed robbers had blocked the road at Gidan Gambo along lafia-shandam road with the intent to rob unsuspecting commuters.

''Upon the receipt of the information, the Commissioner of Police mobilized Police personnel attached to Assakio Police Station and a team of Safer Highway personnel to the area where a gun duel ensued. Consequently, the hoodlums were dislodge and one yet to be identified suspected armed robber was fatally wounded as a result of a superior gun fire and rushed to the hospital where the Doctor on call confirmed him dead.''Nansel said

The spokesperson added that a machete and knife were recovered as exhibitS from the deceased suspect while others escaped into the bush with bullet wounds. He said police officers are currently combing the bush in order to arrest the other fleeing suspects.

Redeemed Christian Church of God General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adeboye has stated that Nigeria may not have money or resources to fight the COVID-19 pandemic, but the country has God.

IgbereTV reports that Adeboye spoke on Sunday at the January 2021 Special Thanksgiving Service and Ground-Breaking Ceremony of the Coastline Worship Centre of the Redeemed Church of God National Headquarters, Throne of Grace, Ebutte-Metta, Lagos.

Adeboye's statement comes in response to a statement made by Billionaire Microsoft founder, Bill Gate, who recently said he didn't understand why COVID-19 cases and fatalities were low in Africa, a region that lacked enough healthcare, financial resources and Government will power to fight the scourge.

Adeboye in response said: “When I read that it will take 10 years to vaccinate people in the U.S., I wonder when the vaccine will come to Nigeria. We have no money; we have no resources, but we have God. They expected us to be dying like flies, but we have a God who says he that dwells in the secret place will be under the shadow of the almighty.”

According to Adeboye, God told him in his 2021 prophecy that the world has not learned its lesson.

“It is the God that reigns and rules in the affairs of men and the world must recognise his lordship in all that they do,” Pastor Adeboye said.

He assured Christian faithful that “any calamity that comes, we will survive”.

“Ebola came, we survived; coronavirus came, we survived and whatever may come in the future, we will survive because we will keep praising God,” the cleric stated.

He urged his listeners not to be afraid, declaring that God would take care of His own.

“There is fear in the air. Fear is a killer. Some people will die of hypertension because they are afraid. Coronavirus may not come near them at all, but fear can kill them,” he said.

“When you ask a man to do a job only God can do, don’t blame him if he makes mistakes. When I heard they closed down some restaurants, I was wondering. What about those of us who go to bukas (roadside eateries), how many bukas are you going to close? What are you going to do about people like me who eat boli (roasted plantain),” Adeboye said.

Adeboye, however, warned: “I do not say be careless. Wear your mask. We are particular about hygiene. Keep watching your hands. Do social distancing as much as possible. Obey the government. Wash your hands.”

He said, however, that he would not allow social distancing to stop him from laying hands on the sick. “The Lord told me loud and clear, RCCG is my Church. I can take care of my own. I will not be afraid. My God will take care of me,” he said.

“If you are ungrateful, he can withdraw what he has done. Sooner or later, you will need God again, so be grateful,” he said.

Man Who Killed His Pregnant Girlfriend In Order To Avoid The Shame Of Giving Birth Outside Wedlock Gets Sentenced To Death By Hanging

IgbereTV reports that the Jigawa state High court in Rinjim has sentenced a 29-year-old Mustapha Idris, to death by hanging for killing his pregnant girlfriend, Nafisa Hashimu.

Mustapha and late Nafisu, a divorcee, were live in lovers in Daneji village. On January 12, 2020, she was found in a pool of her blood. Following the police investigation, it was discovered that Mustapha slit the throat of late Nafisa, leaving her to die in the pool of her blood.

When interrogated, he initially denied the allegation but later confessed to committing the crime. Idris said he killed Ms Nafisu after she told him she was three months pregnant and that he did it to avoid the shame of giving birth outside wedlock.

“I’m ashamed of how the society will see us after she delivers the unborn child out of wedlock, and thus I decided to terminate her life to stay away from shame,” he said.

After months of trial, the presiding judge, Justice Ahmed Kazaure, found him guilty of the crime and sentenced him to death by hanging.

Sunday Adakola Ada, the Nigeria Civil Defense and Security Corps (NSCDC) personnel who was arrested for killing two young carnival goers in Otukpo area of Benue state, has narrated how the incident happened, IgbereTV reports.

The security operative who was being interrogated by policemen, said he was only trying to warm the air and didn't see anyone when he shot into the air. He added that it wasn't intentional.

Ada further disclosed that he was initially told that one person died while another was injured, but two people died after the shooting incident.

Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has announced that 20 doctors died of Coronavirus complications within the past seven days, IgbereTV reports.

Enema Amodu, chairman of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) in the federal capital territory (FCT) said this during a press briefing on Friday December 25.

Amodu stated that medical personnel are in need of personal protective equipment (PPEs) as the second wave of infections in the country has been “catastrophic”.

He said;


“Everywhere around the world at this time, we are facing a second wave, and this second wave is so overwhelming and more catastrophic because a lot of people have gone back to the way of doing things thinking that the virus is over, and it is gone and they have let their guards down.
“For those of us in the health sector, we have lost quite a number of colleagues in the last one week alone. Across the nation, we have lost professors, consultants, residents (both senior and junior), very senior medical officers and nurses – some of them you may not hear of and some you may hear depending on the circumstances and whatever positions they are occupying. This goes to show that this virus is very much with us and they call it a second wave, but it is actually a continuum because it never really left us.
“I am here this afternoon on Christmas Day to solidarise first with the families of our members that have lost loved ones. I want to make it public that we are with you in this very trying and grieving moment of sadness over the loss of our colleagues who most likely are the breadwinners of their families. We also want to use this opportunity to talk to our patients; when you come to us in the hospitals and clinics, please oblige us and wear your mask. Tell us the truth about your past medical condition and don’t hold any information back.
“The figure of the number of our colleagues that have died is evolving everyday but as I am standing here, I got a call from a colleague who is in an isolation centre, and he is not sounding very good."
