Hi everyone. Hope you all are safe. Please question for lawyers in the house. In order to practice in canada do you need to go to law school or would Nigerian law school suffice and do you need to write any licencing exam. Please whats the process, thank you in advance. |

Thank you all
P.S do not mind the time on the the screenshots, I made it over 2months ago, I just got around to writing this morning Thank you Hafsat for sharing. Indeed it's those who you know nothing about that help you out. I don't know why it's like that. Someone on the other group give me details on how to process letter from FRSC, picked it up for me, brought it to Canada. I was busy thinking when I have time I'll pick it up. Only for him come to my city few weeks after he arrived Canada for interview and he brought my letter for me. Thank you all for being helpers. |

Prisscindy: IQAS is the best option for LLB not master of law because they evaluate the bachelor of law as a professional degree and that's an equivalent to master's.
WES doesn't give it a professional equivalent, but gives LLB and law school certificate as two or more certificates.
Since you have master's already, evaluate ONLY that with WES because they're faster and even faster as it's from oversea. Your ECA should be out probably in 2months time max.
Hope this helps. Thank you and God bless. Another question, can years of experience before MSC be used to claim the required years of experience. Cause she worked before going for masters. |

Hello house please for someone who has a masters in law from outside Nigeria should they process certificate with WES or IQAS. The reason I'm asking is because WES is more faster than IQAS. And please for lawyers that have used WES what is the issue with WES result when you submitted your application to IRCC? And should they add the BSc from Nigeria or should verify just the MSC? Thanks. |

Timeline:
See y’all in Canada. If you are coming to Edmonton or are in Edmonton already, holla at your boy!.. Congratulations on your PPR. Please I want to ask for someone who did a masters in law. Should they go with IQAS for qualification verification or WES. IQAS processing time is quite long. People say WES is usually not accepted when you submit your application to IRCC and it leads to rejection? Why is that please? What do you suggest the person does? |

salford1: It's not a PM or P.coordinator/assistant role. It would be rare to get a PM role straight out of school. For a standard organization, Ideally, atleast 5 years of project experience would be required. However, one can get a PM assistant/cord straight out of school. It's a unionized plant position in the energy (non-oil) industry. Okay thank you for clarifying |

salford1: You can also change careers if you so desire. There are many lucrative courses/careers you can explore. Just research what course you feel you would excel in, and check if it is demand in your province of choice. Target employers that offer descent wage/benefits. You don't want to get stuck with a student loan debt after studying a course with bad prospect. My employer just hired a smart 22 years old Nigerian recent grad of a regular 2 years instrumentation tech diploma from a community college here in Canada. Excluding bonus, starting wage is 90k. In 3 years, his salary would be 101k with yearly 2% increase till 2022. With OT, he is looking at atleast 150k per year. Interestingly, he doesn't even have a PR yet, he is currently on a pgwp. Hi Salford is this for a PM role or a project coordinator/assistant PM role? Being that he is fresh out of school? |

mbhs139: Ontario, through osap, give 28k for each session of your course. My wife is getting twice that amount for the two years of her course at Sheridan College. 40k is grant and 16k is loan. Please can you enlighten me on how the grant is 40k and loan is 16k. When I used the OSAP calculator the grant was so little I did not bother. Please explain. |

amaya21: If it is for regular EE - yes you can use work experience after your Bachelor's and before your MSc as work experience. Assuming it is in an appropriate NOC and within the last ten years.
Be careful if it is for PNP - provinces may have different requirements. Thanks |

damilola1978: Let me give you an insight into Ontario licensing...
Everyone must take the knowledge base test which give you a G1 license.
If you dont have an original Nigeria driver's license, you have to go to their driving school/wait for a year before you can take the G2 road test.
If you have an original nigeria driver's license which is less than 2 years old + frsc driving reference letter => you are eligible to do the G2 road test only immediately, then after a year you can do the G road test.
If you have an original nigeria driver's license which is over 2 years old + frsc driving reference letter => you are eligible to do the G road test immediately (only 1 attempt), if you fail, you go back to start from G2 road test, then after a year you can do the G road test again.
Some people like myself decided to do the G2 road test first, after passing before doing the G road test because like I said it's only 1 attempt you have. Thank you for the breakdown. Grateful much. Please do you have a contact for frsc reference letter? |

capsule: I had a ninja license from 2011 that was real unto my eyes and in the eyes of police and road safety. Had to go do a new one in 2018, was told it was fake, applied for a new one, got it in March 2018 (I made sure it wasn't fake). Before I travelled, I got an extract from FRSC, my date of first issue was March, 2018. I landed September 2019, my ninja license was a year plus now. In Alberta, I was able to do a cbt test, a road test, passed and got a class 5 GDL. By the 29th of March, 2020, I will be eligible to do a road test and obtain my class 5 advance. So if you check, by 29th of March, my ninja license would have been 2 years (730 days).
Please get the letter from FRSC, and be very sure your njnja license is not fake, be very sure. Thank you. I appreciate |

canadaman18: First and foremost set aside your emergency fund(this should be enough for 3-6months if you had no other source of income).. around 10K is good for this. Put this in a High Interest Savings Account
Check how much contribution you have in your TFSA and RRSP via CRA website , fill that up and then purchase index funds that appeal to you OR if you don’t want to stress yourself at all get a Roboadvisor that will invest for you . Any interest through this means is tax free or tax deferred
Do the same with whatever is left except this time you’re not tax sheltered..
Once the money grows a bit start looking into real estate, buy somewhere you can renovate and start renting out Thanks for sharing. Is there a way to bookmark posts? |

Just an observation about networking and using LinkedIn. People say networking is key which is absolutely true but what I noticed here is people readily accept your LinkedIn connection which is quite nice because in Nigeria some people dont really accept.
But when you send a message they don't respond. This has happened mostly with recruiters. And I wonder why? |

daks02: Hello people. I used to actively follow this thread when I was in Naija imagining how Canadian life will be but now I guess life has just taken over, and I used to vex for people that did it! Like once ppr comes and they land most people just stop coming here. Now I’ve joined them (I’m sorry) so just little feedback, I landed In September 2019. It’s been a journey, I thought this Canadian dream was going to be the answer to all my prayers well I thought wrong (like everything will be automatically better) It’s hard, super tasking, drains you and sometimes you’re just tired but it’s been amazing and fulfilling I guess, I’m more at peace here, life is simple. So I landed in Edmonton Alberta, got an apartment before we left naij so job hunt basically started immediately. So tip 1: Try and start looking for accommodation before you leave naija, if you have family or friends that can view it for you before you land then good, if not just have an idea of the area you would like consider factors like daycare close by, grocery stores cos you might not have a car immediately. (And trust me their public transportation especially in Edmonton sucks!). This is helpful so that when you land you basically have an idea of the area you would like and what amenities are available to you, I’m not saying it can’t change o but you’ll save some time. When we landed I immediately enrolled my daughter in daycare, please tip 2 for people that have kids, enroll them in school or daycare as soon as you can, it’ll give you free time to job hunt and just get your life started.
I also enrolled in an employment success program, didn’t plan it just one of my waka to the settlement agencies and someone just mentioned it and I’m like oh well why not? I was kuku jobless, I did the program for 2 weeks and I got my first job, so tip 3: the importance of those agencies can’t be overemphasised, don’t go there with the impression that they’ll get job for you o, cos that’s what I thought too but then I started applying and using the tips I got from them, I got the interview and I did a mock interview with them before I went for the actual one which helped a lot. Tip 4 : Canadian culture is complete opposite from our naija one so you have to unlearn and relearn (which I’m still doing sef). see ehn it’s one thing to get the job and it’s another to keep it, just lay low and observe your surroundings basically do as they do, you’ll get the hang of it ( like I said I’m still learning o), they have a way they do things and you can’t just come with initial gra gra. I think that’s all I remember for now. Ps for people landing in Edmonton between now and March, better set aside winter gear funds, you’re gonna need it o(in chigurl’s voice).
Pps these tips are just from my point of view, if anyone has any other tips please share them o (I need it plis) Thanks for the tips so regarding jobs how long did it take you to get the job from when you landed. |

Markab: Hello there, recruitment process differs from one organization to other. Based on my personal experience so far in this country, I have come to realize that most companies swiftly extend offer to their most preferred candidates while keeping the others on "waiting list" up until offer is accepted or declined (usually one week grace in Ontario). If offer is accepted, they move on to documentation, and wait for the candidate to resume. If offer is rejected, they move on to the next person and cycle continues. The process is usually wrapped up in less than 5wks for applicant's that are interviewed, if I don't get interviewed after two months of the application deadline, my personal assumption is that my application was not accepted.
You may get auto-generated regret email from the HR system, sometimes 5 months after the closing the exercise for some structured organizations while some would not even get back to you at all. My current Job offer was finalized with one week, same as the previous. I have only experienced delay in my recruitment process one time since I arrived Canada. This was as a result of the acquisition of the recruiting company. The process took longer than usual because it had to be reviewed by the parent company, headquarted in Italy. As a matter of fact, I took a fresh aptitude test, another round of interview on skype with the Italy folks after previously meeting with the VP and EVP of the acquired company based in the US . It took like 8 weeks in total, guess what, I declined the offer . I no get time for wahala biko!
CAVEAT: My analysis is solely directed to experienced position, not entry level or graduate positions. I understand those usually take longer time than usual. Thanks |

19CannyMum: Egypt has a shorter flight but Ethiopian food is better and they're more lenient with excess luggage.
Read landing ghosts others have shared on their experiences with both airlines. Should be links on page 1. Honestly i agree Egypt air is not so great. Cheap yes. From cairo to Toronto we were served twice I want to believe its because I slept most of the flight that's why I missed the food. BA lagos to Heathrow 5 hours flight serves better. For excess luggage I got chating with the lady at the counter about PR process and explained I was relocating she talked to her boss about my excess luggage (all my bags including hand luggage where excess) and he said I should go. I tipped her for the help. Oh and Cairo airport wifi did not work. Load your nigeria line. |
