Why is it that no politician or anyone in civil society talking about the problem of over-population. Nigeria has a population figure of approx 150 million and half of that figure are under the age of 20. No matter what way you look at it Nigeria is heading towards over-population and our leaders are doing nothing to stop it from happening, women are regularly churning out 9 children each, men are taking multiple women for marriage. When are we going to wake up and see that this is unsustainable. The UN predicts by the year 2020 Lagos will be the most populous city(slum) in the world with a mind boggling 25 Million inhabitants, if you think the status quo of Lagos is bad, you ain't seen nothing yet.
When are our leaders going to stop burying their heads in the sand and take action b4 its too late??

It's difficult being one of the beautiful people; not only do you have to deal with those less attractive than you in real life, apparently people get upset when you ban them from your beauty-exclusive dating sites for not being attractive enough, too. Life can be so unfair.

The problem for BeautifulPeople.com started when the dating site, which allows new members only when they have been voted as beautiful enough to join by the existing clientele, was attacked by a computer virus that eventually came to be called "Shrek."

The virus worked by approving 30,000 new members to the site who hadn't been attractive enough to get approval the traditional way (who also happen to be 30,000 new members about to be booted off the site as a result of the virus being identified).

According to managing director, Greg Hodge, "We got suspicious when tens of thousands of new members were accepted over a six-week period, many of whom were no oil painting."

The site isn't being entirely callous in its dismissal of the 30,000 non-beautiful members, just partially callous. Yes, they're still being shut out of the site for not meeting subjective ideals of attractiveness decided upon by strangers with their own issues (Let's be honest; if you're joining a dating site called "Beautiful People" that requires that you be rated attractive enough in order to belong, chances are, you probably have some hang-ups about needing approval somewhere inside your head), but at least they're also getting a helpline staffed with counselors to help them through the trauma.

Hodge isn't entirely insensitive to the non-beautifuls' plight: ""I sent them all a very carefully worded email, trying to be as sensitive as possible," he said. "But naturally many of them are finding it a bit of a sting to have been rated beautiful by their peers only to lose the accolade overnight."

The total cost of the mass rejections is expected to be somewhere around $100,000. Not to mention, of course, a few broken hearts and crushed spirits along the way, as well.

'Ugly' Invade Dating Site For Beauties Only

A dating website that only allows "beautiful" members has had to apologise to tens of thousands of "ugly" people who were accepted by mistake.

Last month the screening process was sabotaged by a Shrek virus, meaning anyone was allowed to join, regardless of their looks.

The site's owners have now issued an apology to the 30,000 "unfortunate" people who were "wrongly admitted" to the site.

They have subsequently been banished.

"We have sincere regret for the unfortunate people who were wrongly admitted to the site and who believed, albeit for a short while, that they were beautiful," managing director Greg Hodge said.

"It must be a bitter pill to swallow, but better to have had a slice of heaven then never to have tasted it at all."

BeautifulPeople.com usually requires those looking for love to pass a strict "rating" stage where existing users vote on whether someone is attractive enough to be accepted.

"We got suspicious when tens of thousands of new members were accepted over a six-week period, many of whom were no oil painting," Mr Hodge added.

"We responded immediately, repairing the damage from the Shrek virus and putting every new member back into the rating module for a legitimate and democratic vote.

"The result is that we have lost over 30,000 recent members."


A hotline has been set up to help rejected applicants come to terms with the news.

It is not known how the Shrek virus started but it is believed a former employee may be responsible.

BeautifulPeople.com has more than 700,000 members worldwide.

On average one in seven applicants is accepted - around 5.5 million have not made the cut so far.

The majority of successful new members come from the USA, Denmark and France, it claims.

The UK is among the countries with the highest rate of rejections, alongside Russia and Poland.

Thank you for showing that, that was the most insightful piece i have ever read on Nland, but unfortunately it will fly over the heads most of these ppl we call our countrymen. Simple fact is that the middle belt does not want to be associated with the parasite that is northern nigeria, If we ever were it was in the hope of taking this country forward for the better, now we know what type of ppl the northerners are (jealous subjugators) we want no part of them.

Enyojo, I think your arguement has no substance. Idoma and Igala are not competing for population size. Nothing says that a tribe that is smaller today could not have given birth to a tribe yesterday but has overgrown it. The Idomas as we were told descended from Apa and in todays Nigeria are scattered in the towns of Loko, Doma, Nasarawa in Nasarawa state and entered through Agatu, Adoka, Ogobia,Otukpo, otukpa, Igumale etc in Benue. The state creation exercise has thrown part of the Idomas to Iyala, Iyache etc in Crossriver and Ete in Enugu state. Uptill now, there are parts of Kogi like okpo, Ogugu, Imane etc that you will wander if they are Idomas or Igalas. This is what is refered to as Idoma nation, a population that aggregate far above the Igalas that concentrate only in the Eastern part of Kogi state. This piece is to Educate you only as Igalas and Idomas are the closest tribes in the country who both lived together in Ida before branching out. The Igbos especially the Wawas bear our names like Idoko, Akor, Ojobo etc and that make feel the Igbos could have migrated from either Idoma or Igala not withstand their superior population size today. Many factors affect demographic size.
