Onepage794:
How To Start Pig Farming In Nigeria And Grow To A Giant Piggery
Piggery is another aspect of farming, do you know Nigerians that is making smart investors huge money daily basis.
Despite the huge profitability of Piggery, many Nigerian are still overlooking this goldmine because of ignorance.
A fully Pig goes for a high as N30,000 depending on the weight. Now imagine, considering how fast pigs reproduces, it wouldn't
be a very much big deal to come up with 100 pigs in a year.
1. Secure a Breeding Ground, depending on how you plan to feed your Pigs, a Plot of Land may just be okay for a start
look for a rural area where you can get it cheaper. 1 acre of Land in rural area will be from N300,000
It is good to raise Pigs in pasture by leaving them occasionally to root around in the fields where they can find treats
2. Build Standard Pen IS important if you don't want your pigs to injure themselves.
To avoid your Pig getting dirty , you need to build a water pool where they can play and swim
3. Buy healthy Piglets to ensure healthy farm, you need to make sure the piglets you are about to start.
Buy as much you much to start with but don't start too many. I t advise to to start with small number
4.Talk to Veterinary Doctor you need to the services of vet doctors for regular check up and vaccination
5. Employ Workers. Employ 4-5 persons if your pigs are up to 100. If you are starting on a smaller scale
6. Arrange For Feeding. Just like human being, Pig eat wide variety of food, anything human can eat.
Pig, like all animals, must have constant access to clean fresh drinking water. As well as tipping the trough..

You clearly are an online farmer... invest in this business or his so called education literature at your peril. if you are serious go and shadow a real pig/hog farmer so you can see with your own eyes the realities and challenges and see if you have the time, money, desire and can weather the Nigeria factor especially dodgy staff

But here, we are busy looking for how to mix leaves and human bloods. How to invoke ghosts and grind skeletons of the dead. We are looking for pants, pads and now human wastes instead of looking for formulas and practical solutions to our societal problems.

It's so sad they just don't get it. Your comment will be totally lost on them. The mindset of the nation is alarmingly worrying, Nigeria is soon turning to an insane country -insane NOT mad but insane. It seems behaviour deemed insane in most countries is becoming the norm in Nigeria. I have never seen a country where it citizens mock and are racist/tribalism and enjoy sharing their hatred of each other to the world and think they are making points to improve the prosperity and well being of each other .

Sophisticated nations are using science, with the results of its success or failure backed up by data, Nigerians are wasting time using juju which has done nothing for the betterment of mankind, ZERO. Death, sacrifice, deception, poverty, mental health and evil is all juju brings. Juju is a lazy/stupid/wicked and ignorant mans attempt at science

The Acting President of the Association of Yam Farmers, Processors and Marketers in Nigeria, Prof. Simon Irtwange has implored the federal government and the National Assembly to boost yam exports, by accelerating the repeal of the Export Prohibition Act of 1989.

Irtwange emphasized that the Act which has continued to thwart the commitments of yam exporters from steering their business freely and putting out their yam export figures, also accounts for the drawbacks recorded in the diversification efforts and policies of the federal government.

“The Export Prohibition Act is a big problem to us; it is difficult to come open with numbers when we know that there is a law on ground clearly prohibiting export of yams and its derivatives. The dilemma now is that you have a government policy encouraging export of agricultural produce but the Act is against it. There was an NGO that wanted to give us support and invest in the yam value chain, but as soon as they saw the law, they withdrew because these foreign organizations cannot support what Nigeria has prohibited,” he said.

Irtwange, who also doubles as the chairman of the Technical Committee on Nigeria Yam Export Programme, stressed that the Act could similarly hamper on the production of yams across the country.

He added, “This yam export initiative serves as an incentive to farmers to drive production and once you open the commodity for export, you find that more people will go into production. “Farmers produce for food security and also for export, but as it is now, there is no incentive for farmers to go and produce large quantity of yams.”

He further disclosed that, the Act prohibits the export of five agricultural produce, which includes beans, cassava tuber, maize, rice, yam tuber and their derivatives.

Crime / Iran Executes Corrupt Businessmen-list Nigerian Businessmen Who Deserve This Too by Jessam: 3:38pm On Dec 22, 2018
A prominent Iranian businessman, known as the "Sultan of Bitumen", has been executed for bribery and corruption.

Hamidreza Baqeri Darmani was found guilty of forging documents to secure state-backed loans.

He then used front companies to procure more than 300,000 tonnes of bitumen - a substance used in making asphalt - one of Iran's most profitable industries.

Darmani, 49, is the third businessman to be executed since an anti-corruption drive was launched earlier this year.

Last month, Iran executed a currency trader known as the "Sultan of Coins" for amassing some two tonnes of gold currency.

According to the judiciary's Mizan news agency, Darmani procured bitumen worth more than $100m (£79m) through "fraud, forgery and bribery". He was arrested in August 2014.

News of Darmani's execution was given dramatic coverage on Iranian state television with an action-movie-style soundtrack.

Correspondents say authorities are keen to show how serious they are about punishing those accused of exploiting the country's volatile economy.

In August, new "revolutionary" courts were set up to fast-track corruption cases and dozens of businessmen and traders have been jailed.

It comes amid widespread public anger over a rising cost of living and perceived corruption.

Iran's economy is struggling, partly due to a US decision to re-impose tough sanctions on the country. source bbc news

Agriculture / I Want To Buy Cow? Do You Know The Different Types Of Cattle? by Jessam: 6:10pm On Dec 19, 2018
In Nigeria we mutter we want to buy a cow for Christmas or even any other celebration but as consumers do we know the different types of cattle being raised(not breeds), there differences and which ones offer the best quality meat or does it not matter. It does matter that you know the facts as often you are purchasing worn out discarded livestock at an exhortation price .

Any way there are 4 types of cattle raised in a farm - cow, steer, heifer, and bull?

Cow: A cow is a female animal that has had at least one calf.

Heifer: A heifer is a female animal that has never had a calf. Once a heifer has a calf, she automatically becomes a cow.

Bull: A mature male animal that is used for breeding.

Steer: A steer is a male animal that has been neutered.

So, what do you usually eat when you eat meat? Generally speaking if it’s good quality meat it’s usually a heifer or steer. If it’s lower quality meat, it’s usually a cow.

I hope Jessam Cattle ranch and farms have helped enlightened you on the matter but as i suspect price is the determinant factor and a cow is a cow mentality might prevail

Politics / Re: Jeremiah Useni's Rice Company In Plateau (Photos) by Jessam: 10:47pm On Dec 07, 2018
Total nonsense -JESSAM and other true Nigerian farmers and agriculturists have been campaigning for the distribution of donor funds meant for ordinary farmers to be given to them but continuously siphoned off by these politicians/failed beings.
This man has no history in farming hence you can see his immature boasting on nairaland of the installation of basic rice processing equipment, look closely at the photos you will see they have been hardly used- boasting of success before he has even started operating..lol deadbeat.com. This is not a mechanized processing factory as they are claiming, mechanised processing involves the whole process from farm to bagging/packaging. My point is that these fools are not experienced or qualified and are wasting funds meant for real farmers. He has no experience in marketing rice or how he can beat the price of smuggled rice coming into Nigeria.

There is massive corruption in the distribution of agricultural funds both government allocated and those from donor countries seeking to help Nigeria improve the agriculture industry. It is failures like this senator who have looted government money all their lives, enjoyed government salaries in numerous positions that get these funds but never succeed in their so called mechanised farms... where is Obasanjo farms today. Go ask about other politicians that have wasted funds that could have gone to real Nigerian farmers where these businesses are today.

Give real knowledgeable and experienced Nigerian farmers a chance to get these funds, help the small scale farmers form cooperatives to boost productivity and operate with the economy of scale.

Business / Re: Rice Importation In Nigeria To End In 2020 by Jessam: 3:06am On Dec 05, 2018
The Nigerian Governments agriculture POLICY IS A TOTAL FAILURE and is deceitful. The government is encouraging the masses to go into agriculture as a mere means for their survival and not for real business and then claim it is empowering the poor. You cannot empower the poor by simply giving them seeds to plant on their ancestral land or in their back yard. Empower them by organizing them into cooperatives, provide land for them in the same area to form a massive continuous land mass, have farm equipment such as tractors, plough machines, harvesters etc rent able at a cheap rate, most importantly provide subsidies and grants to investors to build factories within 20 miles of these industrial farms.

The legal Importation/smuggling of rice will only stop when the rice industry can produce on an enormous scale, in efficient and technology driven manner with government encouraging policies that will drive private business and farmers to beat countries Nigeria currently imports from.

Anything short of this is purely lying and dumb propaganda, let these officials say this at the FAO or any world economic forum and see what lying fools they will come cross as.

As usual Jessam is fully in support of the creation of modern, industrialized agriculture businesses not just mere farms

Agriculture / Re: Dutch envoy says exporting raw materials to EU, U.S. senseless by Jessam: 2:44am On Dec 04, 2018
Adieza:
• Fayemi, Alade speak on solutions at AgraInnovate’s exhibition
The Deputy Ambassador, Netherlands Embassy, Lagos, Mr Michel Deelen, has said exportation of agricultural raw materials from Nigeria to European Union countries, the United States of America and other developed economies is economically senseless when the country struggles with job creation, industrialisation and economic cycles of booms and recessions.
The diplomat, while speaking at the AgraInnovate West Africa’s exhibition lecture at Landmark Event Centre, Victoria Island, in Lagos yesterday, said Nigeria could easily become the largest producer of tomato in the world considering that it has one of the most favourable conditions for growing it.
This, he added, could be done if the country would work on closing the productivity gaps, improve on post-harvest management, embrace modern production technologies, use improved varieties as planting materials and ultimately process the products rather than export or allow them to waste.
Deelen emphasised that Nigerian youths could play critical and gap-closing roles in agricultural processing, packaging and marketing. He added that price stability is required as an incentive to motivate farmers to intensify production, invest more in their farming activities as businesses and forecast their profitability.

As the Ambassador said it is totally senseless to try and export raw agricultural products to the EU or USA, even if Nigerian farmers had the economy of scale, it is impossible to beat the prices of these trading blocs, do you know the cost of milk, wheat, maize etc in these trading blocs, they are often referred to as loss leaders merely used as a means to attract customers to then buy the more expensive produce.

As the ambassador said the Nigerian government needs to have a policy that focuses on a complete vertical integration of the food production cycle from farm produce to factory goods.

I have continuously invited the minister of Agriculture for a chat to listen to ordinary farmers like myself and see how we can all work together to boast Nigeria's agricultural sector to be worthy of positive international attention like palm trees is to Malaysia, corn is to USA, CATTLE IS TO NEW ZEALAND .

It's a pity that such an informative article has not made it to the front page and am flabbergasted that there are zero comments 2 days after publication.

Once again dear Nigerian government - exportation of agricultural raw materials from Nigeria to European Union countries, the United States of America and other developed economies is economically senseless

These countries should stop giving the federal govt all these monies meant for citizens, they have the technology to share it, all they need is just our account numbers and details. If only the fed govt has the database of those small scale farmers, it will be easier to disburse the money electronically ..

So true, these funds will go either direct into the pockets of the officials handling this project or the officials who have no experience in commercial farming will set up their own big farms that will most definitely fail within 24 months because of their lack of experience , poor management and incompetence. You will soon see pics of local farmers being given what they term super seeds (costing a total of $500k meaning $23.5 million gone awol),

USAID and the UK and EU agencies need to deal direct with farmers, they can even look on the agriculture sector of this website to see who they can really help. There are farmers like Jessam Cattle ranch and Farms who regularly comment, contribute advice to the small agricultural sector in Nigeria, who show their produce, livestock ad farms and who advertise their produce for sale.

USAID, DEFRA etc Jessam Farms would really benefit from your assistance and I guarantee that that we will demonstrate success in return in capital invested, increased produce output, higher quality produce and livestock, greater efficiency in our farming processes, increase in employment opportunities, improved pay for existing staff, increase in apprenticeship opportunities.

I call on these foreign agricultural development agencies to deal directly with the farmers, Jessam farms is willing to assist

Religion / Re: Should Christians Eat Pig? Pig Is Not Kosher. by Jessam: 12:59pm On Sep 02, 2018
Whilst personal choice of whether to eat or not to eat pork is respected and the reasons too, one should not bring Christianity to the matter. We sit in Africa and like to claim to being the most righteous people not only in Africa but the world. We do so because we are often lazy to apply hard work, science and factual based reasoning to the challenges we face as a country and it shows in the development and prosperity of Nigeria and its citizens. Some in Nigeria shun western education but won't mind enjoying the technological benefits of western education such as flying planes to religious gatherings, using cars. weaponry etc. Some religious Nigerians are quick to quote the bible at every turn but practice the total opposite, judging others like they are perfect, behind close doors they sleep with house maids, wives torture and abuse house maids, treat the vulnerable like scum then come and start mouthing off religion. They don't even treat fellow human beings right then they have the gall to talk about animal welfare and what bible or Koran said they should eat or not eat. What about what these religious books say about how we should treat others, HOLD YOURSELVES ACCOUNTABLE FOR THAT FIRST before you start judging others and making claims that the books said this or that about pigs, goats cows etc.

China, THE USA, UK, Germany, Spain, France, Italy, Singapore, Vietnam, Russia and many other countries that brought Christianity to Africa/Nigeria all eat pork. These are advanced countries whose citizens have a quality of life that Nigerians yearn for. How many of you on Nairaland would love to emigrate to these countries and why? I bet most, But just in case you don't know it means you want to go to a country that eats pork, that is tolerant about personal choices including being gay, you want to move to a country that does not bible bash, does not judge what people wear or how they dress or talk. These countries do not display the abhorrent ''I am better than you, or my tribe is better than yours'' to they fellow country men. You want to move to a country that believes in science and backing up things with scientific facts than overly relying on religious books mostly written by men for EVERYTHING, Yes the books are sacred and are a great guidance to our lives but sometimes science shows that we often interpret the writings in these sacred books wrong.

So given the opportunity to emigrate to these countries for what i presume is a better life we then will start preaching to your new country the things that you practice in Nigeria, practices that have held Nigeria back and made you move to their country. A lot of you guys are lazy, crazy and ignorant beings .

Well back to pigs as I said they eat them in the most developed countries on earth in bulk, they are not dying for all the reasons you mentioned, God has not punished them, they are not cursed, THEIR DEVELOPMENT OF THEIR CITIES ARE NOT BEING HINDERED BY EATING PIGS, They are not wanting to leave their countries to move to Nigeria or any non pork eating country for that matter. They are doing just fine

For the enlightened in the house Jessam farms is a proud producer of quality livestock including pigs, we are based in Enugu, Feel free to place your orders.
