Everyday I see countless gruesome aftermaths of car crashes on Nairaland, its time to value life, please slow down, be patient and dont drive while tired. Most of these car crashes are no longer accidents but mere crashes because recklessness and impatience is involved. There seems to be a willingness to show off how great a driver you are to your passengers by driving too fast, making risky overtaking maneuvers or showing off what a superfast car you have.

Remember you are in Nigeria not the west where there are fast response emergency services, helicopters to fly patients to hospital or most importantly good roads.

Drive with care for life is dear and if you are a passenger in a car driven recklessly protest loudly and if need be disembark.

Even when government approve funds for agricultural purposes, it will be by "man-know-man" basis to get the funds and the funds will even be diverted for other uses...

Which way Nigeriahuh
So true, dear government of Nigeria forget your despot friends and help serious experienced farmers, with a little bit of government help small/medium businesses can turn into major employers, not only just tilling the land, but servicing the whole vertical chain. Production, distribution, packaging, retailing etc.

Jessam Cattle Ranch and Farms could be one of these agro businesses that can really be big with the right government assistance... we don't want to be saddled with high interest loans. Dear Mr President, Governor, minister of Agriculture why not come and see what Jessam Cattle Ranch and Farms does. That's great that he made the effort to leave the glitz and glamour of hotels and presidential palaces during his visit to Kenya and visit a farm, he realizes that industrial scale agriculture can play a major part in diversifying the Nigerian economy, create much needed employment as well bring development to rural towns in Nigeria. Good job Mr President.

How I wish your government can partner with real experienced Nigerian farmers that have demonstrated their passion and experience in farming rather than partner with crooked govt croonies, failed politicians.

Jessam Cattle Ranch & farms would like to congratulate the investors and the host community of this farm. It is good that Nigeria diversifies its economy, create employment, and encourage further investment. Efficient Large scale farms are the future of farming in Nigeria. At Jessam we are trying our up most to do things the right way, produce good quality livestock and create much needed employment.

Hopefully those lucky to get employment here won't make it their lifetime mission to steal their way to supposed wealth, and staff take the opportunity seriously. The Anambra state government needs to make sure that good roads are available to all farmers in the state so that they can easily move their goods to market.

Stealing from the poor to feed the poor........ Nigerians wake up and fight for your rights, STOP these fake government generous actions, what this Fayose is kindly dishing out was always yours in the first place. Look at how arrogantly he has perched himself humiliating his subjects instead of creating meaningful opportunities for them to grow and prosper. He should be sitting there with a megaphone showcasing the roads he has built, the farmers loans he provided for the year, provide keys to low cost houses for his subjects etc. Government dependency erodes human dignity and civil society. “The goal of government policy shouldn’t be to make more people dependent. It should be to maximize the ability of all Nigerians to make the greatest use of their abilities so they can lead meaningful, purposeful lives.”

My advice is to be careful to establish the identity of a person you meet online before doing business with them

Great write up, We can't continue to import rice and other stuff at the rate we do, more importantly we are creating millions of overseas jobs and millions in dollars of revenue for foreigners while our able bodied intelligent population sit either unemployed or underemployed wallowing away inn poverty. The importation of rice, and other food stuff should stop now. The likes of stallion group are a bunch of crooks milking the Nigerian economy dry.
yes agriculture can be the largest employment sector in the country, it can also be a major driver for the rest of the Nigeria economy including banking, logistics, infrastructure development, marketing and agro science research. It would really boost the economy of Nigeria but must be taken seriously by the government. Concrete and effective policies should be put in place, at least 20 schools of agriculture schools should be opened spread out across Nigeria. Various levels of education should be provided, these schools should not be aimed for people obtaining worthless paper degrees but should aim to provide people with the right practical and basic management skills to go out start farming. Coop farms should be set up and priority given to people trained from these schools. Instead of offering startup loans that people can't afford to pay back or discourage people to go into agriculture, coops should be setup and large tranches of land given to agriculture property management company who will through government grants build the infrastructure required including livestock buildings, storage facilities: purchase, manage and maintain equipment required for farming such as tractors, tillers, harvesters. Small farmers are then given an opportunity to work within this farming estate or become members of the coop and pay a rental fee for land, rental fee for hire of equipment, rental fee for storage etc and access to seeds and fertilizers.
Loans and grants should however be provided to farmers that are established and can prove they have been in a structured profitable agric business for at least 3 years. If any government officials want to partner with Jessam to implement any government policies feel free to drop me an email at jessamfarms@hotmail.com

@Op:

My sister,

Let me be sincere with you. Your chance of getting someone experienced that will be willing to live and work for you irrespective of your pay will be slim but possible and in most cases will be looking for ways to defraud you.

I will advise, get a normal farm hand/ labour that will care for them daily( feeding and sanitation).

Get a consultant that will visit once a week or twice a month to monitor both the laborer and the farm. He will be responsible for the labourer's training and work schedule. He will be responsible for all health care and things will work well for you.

I would have love to help but I don't know your disposition to my post but that is what smart investors do now and even right from akure here, I know a number of farms/ would be farms under my watch even right there in Epe and other areas of nigeria.

This is the new phase of agriculture and it will help you.

God bless your hustle.

Sincerely,
Great advice, you need to be able to train people willing to learn as they are more effective, efficient and trustworthy than the experienced 'i know it all pig expert' who because they know it all will want to illegally use your resources to establish themselves. Train someone from afresh , teach them loyalty by offering good pay, good working conditions, holiday leave and good commission rewarding them for set targets reached. That's what we do at Jessam Cattle Ranch and Farms. We invest in our workers making it much more attractive to stay with us than try go elsewhere. You have to give to get that loyalty, but we are not stupid to realise there are people no matter what is given to them they are never satisfied, we have ways of detecting such people and simply let them go.

Order good well looked after livestock including pigs from Jessam farms, Enugu. . Feel free to place your orders 08032455430 or 09099020582.

You are wrong. It's a PP partnership project with foreign investor...

Try read and comprehend before opening your mouth...
This is not a racist comment but we have to learn to put Nigerians first, how can any state government local, state or federal not be able find local partners for what really is not a hitech venture. Who is providing the land, how much are these investors putting in? As a nation we have to aim higher, I am all for attracting foreign investors but lets make sure they are attracted on merit and can make substantial investments, give them incentive packages like tax incentives, security guarantees, but don;t form partnerships that don't benefit the nation.
What foreign investor, i don't care if its state or federal. As a country we should be able to do certain businesses without so called foreign investors. The Government should partner with indigenous firms. You meant there was not a single calabar person/firm or fellow Nigerian that the state government could have partnered with. I bet you the government is the major funder of this project.

i know lalasticlala loves good news
This is an absolute disgrace, we have the land, the manpower, the skill set and experience to plant, maintain, harvest and bloody well refine a whole state of coconut/oil. If we can not even do that ourselves we have problems. I believe the youth of Nigerians can do this but rather invest in the youth of the nation, government rather get some lower class wretched europeans to make themselves look like they are doing international trade. This is ridiculous very soon Government officials will bring in the so called foreign investors to make not only coconut but palm wine, cassava, suya, moi moi for us.

Investors indeed what are they bringing to the table, the land - NO, the manpower - No and I can bet you not the capital- the Government will provide the capital for these hungry looking investors. Where are they from? bet you they don't have coconuts in their place of abode. Soon government officials will bring investors in to teach Nigerian pidgen english.

Anyway Jessam Cattle Ranch and Farm is trying to disprove THE THEORY that we can't do things big and correctly just like many other indigenous companies that given the chance can match the so called expertise and surpass these so called investors.

The cost of feed will b lesser if there's enough pasture for them.

Cost of medication should be minimal if animals arrive farm in good condition.

AgricultureRe: A Future Without Oil ( From The Desk Of Agricare Tropical Resources) by Jessam: 12:33am On Nov 30, 2015
papatee4:
“The best way to predict the future is to design it Abraham Lincoln“
We need to plan for a future without oil. If there is anything that will bring this nation to its doom, it is not negative prophecies or external influence; it is going to be our overly dependent attitude on oil! All the negative prophecies, threats, external manipulation are not enough to break this nation, the only thing that might eventually break-up Nigeria is our attitude to the Nigerian oil.
Life is full of phases but it is very hard for nigerians to acknowledge that the era of oil is gone ! . If Nigeria will eventually become extinct (God forbid) it will definitely be our overly dependent attitude on oil. The easiest way to make something extinct is to make what they depend on to be extinct. Oil is becoming an extinct commodity.
I pray that our great nation will not become extinct with it. The oil fortune is gradually turning to a misfortune ! Our dependency on oil had killed a lot of novel initiatives and ideas: it has relegated Agriculture to the background. It has brought unimaginable corruption. Till today the 20billion dollar oil fund that is missing hasn't been accounted for !
Our economy is oil dependent, oil accounts for over 80 percent of government revenue. In most Arab countries: the oil has been used as a source of development but the prevalent level of corruption in Nigeria has become an Anathema to the“black gold“. We need leaders that can prepare and take this nation to a future without oil. We need the leaders that will provide a platform for diversification of the economy.
One of the most astonishing stories of national revolution happened in Switzerland in the 16th century , Switzerland os known for its extraordinary banking activities: a country that is devoid of mineral resources, what switzerland lack in resources, they have it in 'preparation'. Switzerland has become synonymous with sophisticated and discreet banking services.
The emergence of switzerland as a power house for banking activities started with a great reformer called John Calvin, born on July 10, 1509. Calvin prepared switzerland for the position they have come to occupy today as the bank of the whole world!. Despite a dearth of natural resources, Switzerland. Is one of the worlds most advanced and prosperous nations: a position that came not by coincidence but through adequate preparation. Calvin pioneered the granting of loans with interest - albeit tied to high moral standards, he created a strict system of discipline and enforced it unremittingly. He also worked to separated the Church from politics in an attempt to return purity within religion.
It is often said that banking confidentially and secrecy has its root in calvinism. Switzerland uniquely chose and prepared their banking sector as their primary focus and made the best of it, swiss bank have enjoyed the reputation for quality, reliability, private banking and stability. When everyone other economy focused on depleting their mineral
Resources to boost their economy; switzerland focused and prepare for just one thing- banking- and it has brought it fame and glory. The Swiss economy has proved to us that it doesn't matter what you lack if you don't lack preparation.
The only thing that will keep Nigeria together is for all us ( from the North to the south and from the East to the West) to design a future where the control of oil on the affairs of this nation will become negligible and irrelevant.
Welcome to the Dawn Of a Nigeria. A Nigeria without oil !. Let us debunk the elitist myth that Nigeria cannot exist without Oil. Is there anybody that will love to join this great movement?. Nigerians deserves a future that is more than oil !.
Let us rise up and show the world that we are capable of more. Let go back to what we are known for which is AGRICULTURE.

Great write up, yes agriculture can be the largest employment sector in the country, it can also be a major driver for the rest of the Nigeria economy including banking, logistics, infrastructure development, marketing and agro science research.
