Africa has a population if 1.2 billion.. We don't need UK and Europe to sell our produce.. With ECOWAS, South africa development community (sadac) and east Africa development community, we are good to go.

I am tired of Africa, we always look up to the west but the west don't consider your produce.. We buy milk from Europe but meanwhile milk is in abundance in kenya and Rwanda.

The unity of Africa is in its regional bloc..
On point Sir, Nigeria on its own has one of the biggest consumer blocks in the world . The problem is we don't want to give our ordinary/poorer citizens the same spending power as the poorest in Europe and USA Etc. Its hard to produce and sell to Nigerians as corruption/blackmail has reduced the spending power for most Nigerians to near zero. A cleaner in London can afford decent food, a car, pay rent/subsidy housing, even go on holiday.

AgricultureRe: UK Rejects Consignment Of Agric Produce From Nigeria by Jessam: 11:28pm On Aug 06, 2018
The biggest form of corruption in Nigeria is blackmail NOT just the politicians stealing billions, but the blackmailing that goes on in every corner of Nigeria that ruins individuals trying to create wealth and employment. From custom officers who will seize your goods, policemen who will harass you when transporting your farm produce or anything else come to think of it, the retailers who will gang up and blackmail you to sell it at a loss, Professors who will blackmail young girls to sleep with them or fail. the randy husband who will blackmail the house girl to sleep with him or go back to the village. Mechanics blackmail you too. Get paid after doing a contract to the specified terms involves settlement fees to the bursary department The process to get these produces certified to get it to the UK the farmer would have been blackmailed to bring all sort of settlement fees that it would not be cost effective anymore.Blackmail is the biggest form of corruption in Nigeria and it is being committed by both ordinary citizens and men and women in uniform.

please let me know other forms of blackmail/corrupting practices ORDINARY Nigerians engage in everyday that ruin this country
Demolition of crime hubs continues as the team visited a place called Artillery located behind Railway quarters in Maiduguri, Borno state capital. The powerful committee headed by the Hon Attorney general and Commissioner for Justice Barr Kaka Shehu Lawan is living no stone unturned in ridding criminality from the state.

At the location visited today, selling of alcohol, illicit drugs, and prostitution are reportedly being done in the open, including selling of pork meat as well as dog meat and Burkutu.

This is the problem with fools in government and heir daft followers, selling pork is now a crime.... what fools, I respect religious beliefs but an act of society does not agree with it simply OPT OUT. I guess all the Chinese construction workers and Chinese investors in your state are committing a crime by eating pork. I have never seen such nonsense, to test your resolve ban any item that is imported/produced by any country that eats pork. Ban goods from USA, CHINA, UK, Germany, Russia etc. They supposedly are committing a crime by eating pork then selling you their planes you travel n, their medicine you take, even you and your officials go to their hospitals for treatment send your kids to countries that eat pork (how dare they commit the crime of eating pork)

Dear poor deprived citizens of Nigeria the source of his money is part of the national cake that was meant for your kids education, for your health service, for the construction of local, state and federal roads, for your security, for job creation, for salaries. We might not have the means but we cant let these thieves be rubbing our stolen resources in our faces and expecting us to be acknowledging them as decent beings. Whenever you hear someone say he bought one of so few made, the only colour in the world, the most expensive etc etc he is a thief. No rich man who honestly makes his money and pay TAXES boasts about such.

PoliticsRe: Fulani Herdsmen & Farmers In Enugu Strike Peace Deal by Jessam: 4:32pm On May 15, 2018
That is welcome news, we have had cattle herdsman come nearby our farm but as we have a boundary fence they never encroach. To the best of my knowledge farms nearby to us that don't have boundaries have not had any problems with the herdsmen. The herdsmen that come nearby by Jessam farms tend to look for bush rather than cultivated fields. There have been serious problems with some herdsmen but I believe most are good they have been doing this for 100 of years. We should however point to the fact that some politicians and gangsters have have hired thugs/murderers who operate under the guise of being herdsmen to freely move up and down the country carrying out their evil deeds of religious and ethnic cleansing.

Please people do not mock any attempts of anyone offering peace, especially from the good ones of any group who are rightful/wrongly accused of being bad. The evil committed by Nigerians to Nigerians is both inter tribal, inter religious, inter sex, inter class, inter age. If we have failed and know we have failed we can only try to make it better for the kids and for the generations to come.

God bless all those seeking peace, religious tolerance and ethnic coexistence. God bless those who want the black race to prosper and realize we can not prosper if we kill each other.

AgricultureRe: Factors Contributing To The Success Of Livestock Farms In Nigeria by Jessam: 3:15am On Mar 03, 2018
One of the most important factors in livestock farming is understanding the timeline needed to first establish a commercial herd count. When starting out in either cattle, goats, pigs,or sheep you have to be prepared to factor in a timeline of around 3 years plus to build your stock, your starting stock needs to multiply to such numbers that birth of animals on your farm is more than monthly head count sales. This is the greatest challenge many startup livestock farms face, where do you get the working capital during this period, - feed, shelter, salaries , security, transport etc. You need patience, you need the capital and proper planning during this stage.

PLAN, BE PATIENT, BE PREPARED FOR LONG HAUL

Get past this stage and the future is bright, so during this stage you might need to keep your day job, even if you a backer you must be prepared to be patient. For bio-security you just don't go out every week and buy more animals to add to your livestock, build up your own herd, you won't then have to worry about diseases being brought in from bought in animals

Also beware of middle men

Good Luck guys

HealthRe: Formalin: Why You Should Reduce Eating Frozen Turkeys And Chickens by Jessam: 2:27am On Feb 27, 2018

According to him, that gap is not as a result of inefficiencies of poultry owners but due to lack of patronage on the part of the consumers. “Operators have invested in slaughtering and de-feathering machinery, packaging and storage facilities as well as marketing strategies to convince Nigerians to patronise their safer and more nutritious products.

“This is a viable money making idea for Nigerians, especially the ones in diaspora seeking viable businesses to set up in Nigeria. Home based Nigerians looking for what to do in retirement can also consider this business. The unemployed Nigerian graduate, who can put on his thinking cap, can also set up in this business, starting small,” he said.

Ayodele added that Nigeria has no business importing frozen poultry, which can easily be produced at home to provide employment and create wealth for her citizens. “If patronized, operators can reduce the unemployment rate by over two million in one month and that will just be the beginning in Nigeria,” he added.

Also, an economist, Dr. Olusola Owoeye, explained that Nigerian consumption was put at 1.5 million tonnes, while production was estimated to be about 350,000 million tones, leaving a demand and supply gap of 1.2million tones, which is met through smuggling.

The fact of the matter is that smugglers thrive because it is cheaper than the local grown chicken. The European and USA poultry farmers are able to produce chicken at at least a quarter of the price of what his/her Nigerian counterpart can produce a chicken. Corruption at the highest level has made manufacturing anything in Nigeria noncompetitive compared to the international community. For example the cost of moving poultry feed in bulk across states is 3 times as expensive as international countries. Add the fact that chickens don't last long when moved long distances across the country.

However the biggest problem is lack of competitively priced maize for all livestock producers in Nigeria be they cattle, poultry or pigs . maize is the number one and most important constituent of all feeds . I blame all past and present countries for the inaction in not enabling an environment to grow corn all year round. In Nigeria 90% of corn is planted during the rainy season, this is not acceptable if Nigeria wants to produce it livestock competitively. The government needs to MAKE IT HAPPEN that corn can be planted year round. Imagine if say Nigeria produced 1,000,000 metric tonnes of corn now. if planted year round corn can be harvested at least 4 times meaning Nigeria would produce 4 times what it is currently producing. This will crash the price of corn at least in half, generate more revenue for farmers. Poultry farmers will rear their chicken for less than half the price and become competitive compared to international competitors. Smugglers will then find their chicken is more expensive than the local produced poultry.

Where does the government fit in. It needs an comprehensive agricultural plan, the country needs dams and irrigation systems . it needs cheap land leased or sold to farmers. Farmers need subsidies and guaranteed farm gate rates just like its done in Europe and USA. The agricultural sector needs access to good roads and railways.

Come Nigeria you can at least grow corn all year round, its not rocket science... BTW WHERE THE HECK IS THE MONSTER OF AGRICULTURE, HE SHOULD BE VISITING FARMS ALL OVER THE COUNTRY EVERYDAY NOT SITTING IN ABUJA. WE ARE STILL WAITING FOR YOU TO PAY US A VISIT AND SEE WHAT WE ARE DOING AND ASK HOW THE GOVERNMENT CAN ASSIST US PRODUCE OUR PRODUCE CHEAPER

Honestly, I am not impressed.
Hello Sir, we do have cattle, however it will take many years before you can dream about boasting about a commercial operation. In the North they have had a continuous period of over 100 years of rearing cattle. Jessam Cattle Ranch & Farms is still at the early stage of building up it herd count. Heifers don't breed till they are 18 months and deliver after a gestation period of between 278 -290 days resulting in a birth of 1 or 2 calves. After giving birth they then have to feed and look after the calves. You then have to wait at least 5 years for them to achieve market weight due to poor feeding options in Nigeria. We started of with 10 heifers and a young bull in 2016, today 2 years later we have a herd count of 18. It takes years to build up the herd , you just don't go out there and buy 200 cows and fatten and sell, the cost of acquiring and transporting to your farm means at the end of the day you will sell at a loss. Just like our pig operation it takes a number of years to build a size-able commercial herd. You need a breeding stock first, hen it takes years to get a cow to market size. For the sake of security we do not display our cattle herd on the internet, have you heard of cattle rustlers, they come to farms and steal cattle often at gun point. its a big problem all over Nigeria, this why initially Fulani herdsmen started arming themselves some 20 years ago. There was a poultry farm not too from us that the farmer manager was abducted and in his absence 2000 layer chickens were stolen.

We are very security conscious nowadays and don't publicize photos of our cattle to avoid the unwanted attention of robbers. Anyways it will take us another 4 -5 years to get a 60 cow breeding stock. Ibos due to the war and lack of interest in agriculture and commercial livestock rearing will take at least 15 years and a lot of STATE government support to build a cattle livestock herd to challenge the north, but as we at Jessam say slow and steady

Here is a snippet of our operation 2 years ago

TravelRe: Passenger That Caused The Dana Air Emergency Door Incident Has Been Identified. by Jessam: 8:24pm On Feb 17, 2018
Ok folks let me explain,

Cabin Crew – Arm doors and cross check

You’ll hear this at the start of every flight, just as the aircraft starts to push back from the gate. Simply, it means that the door is ready for use in an emergency evacuation.

If the door is opened the escape slide or raft will deploy and inflate. (Fact # 1 – a slide can inflate in less than six seconds).

Crew arm and disarm the door by moving a special level, locked with a pin. (Fact #2 – it’s physically impossible for the aircraft door to open mid-flight due to the difference in air pressure inside the cabin and outside in the atmosphere). The fact is a passenger tampered with it during the flight or before take off just as in a car a warning light would have gone off in the cockpit, cabin crew would have also checked it while arming the door.

Please note there has been at least one incident when a passenger did manage to open the door of an aircraft while it was in the sky. In 1971 “Dan 'D B' Cooper” hijacked a Boeing 727, extorted a $200,000 ransom ($1.2m in today's money), and then leapt from the rear exit with a parachute, never to be seen again. However, he had the pilot depressurise the plane in order to do so, while a year later “Cooper vanes” were installed to completely disable aircraft doors while the landing gear is up.

And after landing, you’ll hear the pilot ask crew to disarm doors – this means that the emergency slide has been deactivated.

My concern in this incident is why the emergency slides did not deploy, they should have as the door must have been still armed - DAMA EXPLAIN THAT

Why do Nigerians always claim to have been top of the class in universities abroad. How do they know this results are not graded in numerical numbers, its false claim. Often others peoples grades are not made public. especially for masters and PHD programmes.

This laying claim to being to be the top all the time should stop its a bunch of lies. You might have done very well and credit and big ups to you but please stop claiming being top of the class, you're not in some local secondary school.
PhonesRe: Nigeria Has None Of 400 Components Needed To Manufacture Mobile Phone – Samsung by Jessam: 11:26am On Jan 19, 2018
yes Nigeria does have nothing to manufacture a phone,

Poor Governance , leaders once they invest billions of dollars in a factory the politicians will start blackmailing them for millions or threaten to shut the business

Multiple tax system and corrupt FIRS officials swooping down and sealing of the business

poor infrastructure and bad roads - No meaningful , cheap or reliable source of electricity, poor road network, . by the time new phones are loaded onto a lorry and transported across the country, most of the components will have been shaken so much that they are likely to be faulty by the time it reaches the consumer.

Robbery - the factory and its adjoining roads will be a magnet for armed robbers, apart from oil pipes it will will be the next high net value production point.

Now these are the real reasons why it can't be manufactured in Nigeria
AgricultureRe: CBN To Launch N10 Billion Fund For Egg Production by Jessam: 8:07am On Jan 12, 2018
Not realistic, the problem with egg production in Nigeria is the cost of feed, and to small extent drugs. Why would a farmer take out a loan to purchase expensive poultry feed only to sell below their cost input....... Instead the government should implement measures to help bring down, and maintain feed costs. such as give discount vouchers, reduce import duties, incentives for maize farmers, subsidize poultry feed, work with feed manufacturers. Feed is 80% of the cost of producing eggs, deal with that and egg production will grow massively.

Jessam farms Ltd is a real livestock operator and we produce eggs, rear chickens, pigs, goats and cows. FARMERS NEED REAL SOLUTIONS WE WONT TAKE THESE TYPE OF LOANS THAT WILL CRASH OUR BUSINESS.

BusinessRe: Reasons Why Oil Is Not The Problem Of Agriculture In Nigeria by Jessam: 10:56am On Jan 05, 2018
Great article, it explains why the state governments offer no incentives to commercial farmers, whats in it for them if all the proceeds go to the Federal Government. Its truly unbelieavable .

In the EU to reduce price distortion, the connection between payments and specific crops was removed; instead, a "Single Farm Payment", which subsidised farmers on a per-hectare basis, is practiced
The Single Farm Payment is a large proportion of income for many farmers,[8] who say they could not profit without subsidies.[9][10] However, farm subsidies in developed countries push down food prices and impoverish third-world farmers. Taxpayers in the EU get more than most in return for their money.[11][12]

In 2010, the EU spent €57 billion on agricultural development, of which €39 billion was spent on direct subsidies to farmers

USA
In 1933, with many farmers losing money because of the Great Depression, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed the Agricultural Adjustment Act, which created the Agricultural Adjustment Administration (AAA). It makes sense for society to support farming. Everybody needs to eat, and most would prefer to do so without devastating the environment or exploiting labor.

Well, no one can accuse the United States of failing to commit significant resources to agriculture. Between 1995 and 2005, the Environmental Working Group calculates, the government paid farmers $164.7 billion. That averages to about $16 billion per year —

Now what do farmers in Nigeria get? How can we compete on the world stage if we do not even have the basics, forget the subsidies, give farmers the basics, bad roads make the cost of moving farm inputs like feed, machinery, staff unprofitable, farm outputs such as harvests and moving livestock are so high too , makes doing business prohibitive expensive.

commercial farming requires power be it from electricity, diesel or petrol. what incentives do FG give farmers to reduce the cost of this critical component. Google THE UKs RED DIESEL - In the United Kingdom, "red diesel" is dyed gas oil for registered agricultural or construction vehicles such as tractors, excavators, cranes and some other non-road applications such as boats. Red diesel carries a significantly reduced tax levy compared to un-dyed diesel fuel used in ordinary road vehicles. Knowing Nigerians this system will be rife with corruption red fuel will be diverted elsewhere

Nigeria is not taking agriculture seriously one iota........... I ASK MYSELF WHY OOO WHY....... Are we lazy, dumb, stupid, ignorant, lack vision... we all agree we live in the midst of VERY MANY TOTALLY corrupt liars. it has to be one of the above that is stopping us from growing an industry that can generate serious revenue, provide employment, reduce food costs for the average Nigerian, bring in foreign revenue, educate and provide a respectful and well paid trade for the rural masses, diversify the economy.

Congratulations guys a great awareness and marketing event, we intend to do a similar event in Enugu soon.

Listen people its so easy to criticize someones else effort, but don't forget it was positive effort, they professionally organised an event, offered free food , tried putting their case forward about some of the benefits of pork, if you don't like it no need to be mean spewing unnecessary insults. Do you know the number of employment opportunities created by those involved in pig farming, from farm labourers, butchers, corn farmers, transport operatives etc. It feeds and schools many families, for that alone give credit that they are creating employment. If you don't like it , that's fine, eat what you like, I don't see Europeans calling Nigerians savages for all the odd 'bush meat' we eat. Nigerians are quick to judge learn to have an open mind, read some actual facts, pork is widely eaten world wide. I respect those of certain religious faiths that don't eat pork, I won't force them or try judge, its their will and is to be respected.

Hindus make up 16% of the world population and are forbidden to eat beef, does that make beef bad ? Live and let live people

You have spoken the truth and the only way out for Nigeria. I am not surprised many more have not acknowleged your great analysis. This simply is the best analysis of Nigeria I have seen describing the current situation and current mentality of the citizens of Nigeria. The biggest complaint of most Nigerians is the frustration/ the lack of opportunity to steal from the national cake. This is why stealing from the national cale is not seen as a problem. People are simply waiting inline patiently for either themselves, their wfe, uncle, brother, inlaw, mother, aunt, cousin, child, sister or person from their village to get in to power, to go get their share of the national cake. Thats why Nigerians will lynch a common street thief for snatching a purse. Firstly there is no way their people can get that person neither are the contents of the purse large enough to make them boastfully rich. So wtf LYNCH THE FOOL.

YOUR ANALYSIS SHOULD BE EMALED TO EVERY NIGERIAN, REPLACE PHOTOS OF PRESIDENT GOVERNORS AND FRAME THIS ANALYSIS IN ITS PLACE.

This Is How Nigerian Politics Work..

The Godfathers are at the top of the pyramid,(The Tinubu's, The Mama Peace, The Ibb's,)etc..bellow them are the Governor's and Senators..below day chain are the Reps, then the House members, below are the LGA chairmen, Councillors, and below them are the touts ready to serve the Councillors, who is ready to serve the chairmen, who serves the house members, who serve the Governor's, and Senators who serve the Big Godfathers. Those at the bottom of the chain(Me and you and the So called E-warriors) can make noise and whine and cry, and complain... but during the election year, the Godfather talks to the Gov/Sender, to talk to the House members to talk to the chairmen, and Councillors, who talk to the touts who steal the ballot box to keep them for another 4yrs, where the poor and e- Worriors continues the noise, and complaining only for the cycle to repeat after anoda 4yrs. Do you know the way out ? You make a hit list, Take out those at the top of the food chain, down to the touts... but you know what... the poor people will move in there, thanking God for giving them opportunity to steal their share of the National cake..so the are just 2 ways to fixing this FOREVER.
EITHER KILL EVERYBODY IN NIGERIA.... OR YOU KILL OUR "Its my own turn to eat the national cake" mentality. There's NO Other way. RE-Orientation Of the Mind Is The KEY to the Change We Seek. The Change Starts When YOU and ME Decide To Change our Mindset.. And Then Others Will Follow.
Thanks to You All.
Members of the public let me bring to your attention of a scammer who operates in Lagos, in particular the Lekki/Ajah area and mainland. He claims he does kitchens, that is true to a point, only that he will collect most of your money and won't complete the job. His work is very showdy too. Don't be deceived he will take you to building sites where he will show you other peoples work and claim its his. This man has such audacity to try and con people. His name is Bamidele o ogunkayode. He will soon find out scamming does not pay.

Oduok:
I don't know why Bloomberg didn't see this while designing the plant for Dangote. I did a similar design in 2015 and this was my finding: taking a production capacity of 360,000 tons of tomato paste annually as a basis. Material balance revealed that 2,477,100 tons of raw tomato is required. (Raw tomato is 7 degree Brix while tomato paste is 30 degree Brix). Market survey revealed that a ton of raw tomato in the local market was 350 dollars while a ton of tomato paste was 1,300 dollars. Ignoring every other costs, annual cost of raw material for the plant was 866,974,500 dollars whereas annual income from sales of tomato paste was 702,000,000 dollars. I concluded and reported that the plant was technically sound but lacked economic viability. My recommendations were: 1. Government should intervene and subsidize the production cost of tomato for farmers who would sell the raw material to processors at subsidized rate. 2. The plant should consider producing other products like lycopene from the waste. 3. The plant should employ pinch technology to recover heat from the three effect evaporator for use in other units like sterilization and preheating.
Nice to know we have very well informed people here, Nairaland seems to attract the opposite.

Its just not Dangote suffering from the unattractive business environment in Nigeria , there are many who have delved into the agricultural sector hoping to invest and bring jobs to Nigeria as well as turning a profit. Having been in operation for over 5 years jessam Cattle Ranch & Farms has found that adding value to the production value chain has been so challenging in Nigeria, As the CP has said the higher up the chain you go the greater the economic value of the farm product or the component of the farm produce. The problem is that in order to go up the value chain you need key infrastructure. jessam and most other mechanized farms have found that lack of consistent electricity in particular in the farm has made it impossible for us to preserve our farm produce, be it butchered animals or fresh vegetables, without electricity we cannot add value to our products. We would love to slaughter 100 pigs a day, keep them refrigerated and ready to be processed to sausages, bacon, ham, meat pies etc how do we do this without out constant electricity.Even the finished product has to be stored for a couple of weeks in refrigerated store rooms before it gets to the consumer. Dangote tomato paste factory most likely could not get enough raw materials at a realistic price to make it work

Bad roads - Without good roads it is literally impossible to embark on processing our produce on a large scale, we need good motorable roads to move livestock and produce from farm to factory, from factory to warehouses over the nation, from warehouse to shops and markets. Unfortunately the roads are so bad and the cost of transportation and damage to vehicles, extended journey times simply erode any gains in moving up the value chain. This is one of the reasons importation of finished goods is more attractive than going the nigerian farm to market route. The importer benefits from the good roads in say Europe to the ship from ship to the port and into Lagos to market so much cheaper and easier.

Security - need I SAY MORE...we all the challenges facing farmers from theft on the actual farms, theft on the highways, thugs extorting lorries on the highways of Nigeria, stealing in factories etc

Nigeria workers mentality - I am sorry to say that many given a job higher up the value chin often see it as a blessing to enrich themselves at the expense of the continued success of the company

add in government policies such as lack of supporting policies to grow the sectors higher up the chain then you realize the reasons why it is so challenging for most mechanised farms to add value on a large scale basis

jessam cattle ranch & farms aims to be a major player in the meat industry and help stop the importation of cheap, rotten, chemical induced meat from being dumped in Nigeria, often slowly ruining our health .

Slow and steady jessam will grow to be a strong brand in food industry. We are based in Enugu. The business environment is so challenging that we are postponing in further investments and scaling back. The government keeps yelling about the agriculture sector but doing nothing to make this sector attractive.

Time to take some wonderful pics in your constituency, lets see how developed &beautiful it looks, Then go and pose in the 'Selfridges of Kogi' with the locals with no police escort. Go visit go there exactly how you are dressed now, with no police drama or crowd lets see how much they love you there. But most importantly I want to see your constituents looking as healthy as those in the background of your pic, wearing decent clothes and not looking improvised when standing next to the ruling class.
