Abdul4rl22:Please keep the money in a safe place. Find somewhere to do apprenticeship/trained with a practising farmer. Work and improve your knowledge on different aspect of farming. Take time to decide which area of interest you would love to practise. Crop, livestock, agribusiness value chain or whatever. Then you can decide what to do and where to start. Just my one cent. That money can not do anything profitably even on a quarter plot of farm. |
Different Kinds of Tomato Blight
and How to Tell Them Apart
At least two common tomato problems are referred to as
tomato blight and another one is often thrown into the same
mix:
Early blight
Late blight
Septoria leaf spot
They’re each caused by a different fungus. You can tell
these three problems apart by what they look like, what
parts of the tomato they affect, and when their symptoms
appear. But the good news is this: all three can be treated
and controlled similarly with biofungicides or fungicides and
by practicing good preventative care. Cause fungus: 1. Alternaria solani fungus 2. Phytophthora infestans fungus: 3. Septoria lycopersici Characteristics 1. Dark, concentric spots ¼ - ½” on lower leaves and stems Spots on fruit near stems Lower leaves yellow and drop 2. Blue-gray spots on leaves which turn brown Dropped leaves Irregular brown, greasy spots on fruit 3. White mold rings on spots Small black or brown spots on the lower leaves Lower leaves yellow and drop Parts affected 1. leaves, stem, fruit 2. leaves, stem, fruit 3. leaves, stem Timing 1. early- to mid-season in wet weather 2. mid- to late-season in wet weather 3. early- to mid-season in wet weather |
Problems on Tomato Leaves: How
to Identify, Treat, and Prevent Them
Problems on tomato leaves can mean the onset of a
disease, an attack from a tomato pest, a nutrient deficiency,
or conditions that can lead to trouble.
Healthy tomato plants have leaves that are green and
evenly-colored. |
Steps to take to prevent problems on tomato leaves Plant healthy, disease-free plants. Water at the base of plants. Overhead water spreads disease easily. Water in the morning or midday to minimize the amount of time leaves are wet. Monitor plants daily to check for pests. Avoid working on plants when leaves are wet. Remove and destroy affected plants at the end of the season. Solarize soil at the end of the season to destroy soil-borne fungi and bacteria. Rotate crops each year. |
Are There Problems on Your Tomato Leaves? Do your tomato leaves have a problem? Explain what the problem looks like. Share what tomato variety you’re growing and when you first noticed the problem. While you’re at it, describe your growing conditions, the weather, and how much water your plants have had. Any details you can share will help us help you with the problem on your tomato leaves! |

sheyi86:We will do that very soon. Thank you and Amen |
ebukasoso:You harvest tomatoes as it begins to ripen. It has several stages of colouring. I am sorry I can't help you with that calculation. Maybe when you start your farm you can take time to calculate what each plant will produce. I also have interest in getting that answer. |
freelife4all:You are right. its advisable to stake before planting. personally I am not an advocate for fertilizer. I use poultry waste or cow dung. If you can afford, supply poultry waste as much as possible. It can never be too much. Using one row planting you can use 50cm space apart. But using double row, advisable to use 50 by 40cm |
freelife4all:Lol. @ man woman. And Thank you Yes cucumber can be planted directly. But please make your ridges. The ridges help the root to be firm. |
cicgroup:The first and foremost thing before you plant is to test your soil. Know the history of your soil. What and what was planted before. Diseases don't show up until the later stage. But the history will let you know what crop was harvested and the possible diseases and pest of that crop before you plant. With these you can now decide whether to plant or to treat the soil before planting. I am sorry to say this but the truth is once a crop or field is infected, especially fruits and vegetables, its hard to salvage it. My trainer even told me to completely forget about it. The one and only sure step is prevention and prevention alone. Please stop using any pesticide or whatever. If its some other crops, we usually recommend the use of water regularly maybe and who knows God could breath to it. But stop all or any application. And pray |
ncnetwork:Even at that. Your MOU is killing. You are strangling the supplier to favour yourself. No sane producer that reads through will put a pen to that. Your company is being so selfish Quoting some of what I can remember "You can terminate the agreement giving 7days notice" So why must the supplier wait 10 days before getting paid? "You collect fresh produce everyday" And it must be quality How many farms is within Lagos? "And you have the right to reject the goods that have been duly certified at delivery if the customer rejects it" That's really absurd. You so protect yourself against every responsibility in bearing the cost of any loss but rather shift everything on to the producer. If as a producer, one can supply to open market and get paid instantly without hazzles, why would one want to supply to your company with all those stringent condition. The truth, you need to review that MOU. Like I earlier said, its killing. |
noblefarm:I am sorry about your plants. Vegetables are delicate crops. They have a lot of diseases and pest that needs to be prevented from onset. There are lot involve in the production. Its not about just sowing. A farmer needs to know all the diseases and pest before planting. Because they have no cure once your plant is infected. Prevention, treating your soil, using the right organic matter at the right time are the only way around it |
freelife4all:Its good to start with a demonstration plots. Because the size is small, one can easily calculate the inputs and the out puts and so know the ROI. What works in my area may not neccesarily work in your area. Most online figures are not feasible in African countries because of so many things. Climate, Soil type, soil content, pest, disease are not similar. However ROI starts from 0_ whatever percentage you can achieve under good agricultural practises |
Sholaystar4me:Yes. you can plant the two. please note that watermelon detest too much water. |
sheyi86:We have not fix the timetable for next year training. I will keep you informed whenever we do that. |
We thank God for the successful completion of our September practical training. We are glad to be impacting life in our own little way. The November training will be resuming by November 2nd. Hurry up and do your registration. |
The dry season is approaching again. The time for vegetables and tomato planting. Most especially if you have access to water and some irrigation facilities. Please don't jump into farming without having prior practical knowledge. E book/one day seminar will not sustain your farm. Farming is more technical There are lot of issues and challenges that can only be figure out on the farm. Get close to a practising farmer. Understudy him/her for some time. Ask questions. Most of us see the big figures and jump in without acquiring any basic practical knowledge. We got our hands burn severally Farming is lucrative when every good agricultural practises has been strictly adhered to. Learn from other peoples experience and have a bountiful harvest |
Sholaystar4me:Yes. You can plant tomato. But make arrangement for alternative water source for the time the rain will stop |
freelife4all:Tomato duration is 3 months. From nursery to when you start harvesting. Yes tomato requires water throughout its lifespan |
Catch up with us on the farm
