agric. seems to offer a lot but my parents dont like it
Agric offers a lot.
Other African countries such as Kenya, South Africa and nearby Ghana are reaping trillions from the agric sector. Some of us are bent on drilling the goldmine called agriculture.
Your parents don't like it because our forefathers are did not make anything out of it.
Technology is here to make a big difference

Agric in nigeria has been neglected or abandoned for oil exploitation.since then agric is seen as second class profession.i am an agric. student of uniben.Actually i applied for medicine and was given Agric. as a consolation. As an agric student there are a lot of challenges facing us.firstly, only telling people u are studying agric. comes with them laughing at u and telling u career opportunitie u can embark into.Agric is capital intensive and if i graduate how will i even get money to start up a farming business. We are hardly shortlisted for scholarships and when schortlisted few are opportuned to get.agric is hard with a lot of farm work attached to it for which the lecturers share the produce.Government is not concerned about the welfare of agric students.I am fed up with studying Agric.in this country.I need advice pls..................
Interesting.
Life is about having passion for what we do.
I study Geology for my 1st degree and Geophysics in 2nd degree.
But as God would have it, I am proud to be a farmer.
I trained farmers, agriculturist and agribusiness people.
I keep wondering why I never study Agriculture in school.
Why am I saying this?
. Its either you develop interest for what you are doing or you seek for what you have interest for.
Search yourself. What exactly do I enjoy doing even when there is no financial benefit.
You can also look inward. Agriculture is a large value chain. Its full of opportunities.
Wish you well

Our November training which will be the last for this year
is mainly for those that would love to do irrigation farming
and make the dry season vegetable millions.
Tomatoes, watermelon, cucumber, radish, okro, marrow,
green vegetable, ewedu etc are some of the crops that we
will be working with
Its coming at the right time.
The November training will also be the last on farm
practical training for the year.
We will be working basically on:
1. Selecting your seed.
How do you determine which seed to use?
What quantity do you need for an acre or hectare?
How do you space your seed planting?
Is it compulsory to do nursery?
When do I transplant my nursery?
2. The soil
What type of soil is required for specific crop?
How do you recognise an infected soil?
How do you treat your soil?
What quantity of organic matter does your soil requires?
3. Farm planning and set up
Do I need irrigation for my farm?
What type of irrigation will be suitable for my crop?
How to set up the irrigation system
What quantity of water does my crop required?
How often do I irrigate?
4. Staking and mulching my tomato farm
Why do I need to mulch?
What is mulching?
What can I use to mulch?
Why do I need to stake?
What type of staking is good for my crop?
Which one comes first? Staking before transplanting or
transplanting before staking
5. Fertigation/fertilizer application
Must I use fertilizer?
What type is the best?
Where can I source for it?
What's the difference between organic and conventional
fertilizer?
How do I make my own organic fertilizer?
What quantity of fertilizer do I need to apply?
How do I apply fertilizer?
The above are some of the questions that will practically
attended to during the one month practical training.

MayorSchwags:
15days. Cocopeat tomato nursery. They av refused to grow more than the first two leaves
Do you process/treat the cocopeat before using it.
Please don't ask me because I don't really know much about cocopeat. though I have a colleagues that use it on his farm.
I make use of normal soil + poultry waste + sawdust.
15 days is quite premature. some nursery transplanting starts by two weeks.
Something must have affected the seedlings either from your cocopeat or the method by which you handle them.
Your seed source too also need to be considered.
I was at a shop some other time and they select kept some seeds separate because the germination rate is low.
Not all seed sellers are that sincere.
