I don't recharge my mtn line again... been thinking it was virus. anytime I have airtime on my line and my data is on, my line normally subscribe to a package on its own...

have called customer care several times they asked me to unsubscribe from it, which I did.. but to no avail .

it's always games club, videos streaming or even music.
sometimes it normally comes with a notification asking me to accept or cancel, whereas at times it subscribes automatically..

I have flashed my mobile like twice, the ish still persists..

they issue definitely have to be from mtn..

ogbright:
This is so unfortunate and unacceptable the way mtn has been robbing me. Just within 3days now, I lost 430 from them.

I borrowd #100 worth of airtime the first day, I was debited # 115 within a second yet they never credited my account.

I repeated it like this the second time and was never credited. Instantly a message popped in stating the total debit for me to balance.

The third time was that I wanted to borrow but was denied so I took the little money I had to purchase airtime. After loading it, a message came comferming the credit enters my account but it never reflected on the balance. I couldn't make call, I was so devastated.

I abandoned my mtn for other line I'm currently using.

pabon:
Good afternoon Mr JideSM. Please, I discovered yesterday that my airtime was being deducted for sections I have no knowledge about. The funny but annoying thing about this is that it happens whenever I turn off my data.

This is a copy of the last message.

Your last session was 24.04 KB, total cost of last session was 0.35 and new account balance is 163.79.

I don't want to believe that this is MTN's surreptitious way of defrauding her FAITHFUL customers.

I'm awaiting your response. Thank you.

undertaker007:
So I subscribed for the MTN night plan as usual and my #25 was deducted. To my surprise I had elapsed close to 300mb before noticing the deduction was from my monthly subscription. All effort to correct this proved abortive. So I contacted MTN whatsapp customer care services explaining my ordeal. He said
"Kindly be informed that checks show N25 was deducted for the Night Plan. However, please note that the Happy hour data service has been discontinued. ~AO"
But Why deduct money on a service you no longer render? All this happened yesterday.
I however tried it again this midnight to further confirm this illegal extortion and my #25 was again deducted and no 500mb either. I was beaten twice. I am calling your attention to this act by MTN deducting money without rendering services.
Hi undertaker007, i sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. DATA USAGE GUIDE
Step 1: How to reduce data usage on Facebook app.

· Go to Facebook app
Click the Facebook menu option
· Select App settings

Step 2: How to reduce data usage on Instagram.
· Go to Instagram app
· Select Profile
· Click on Menu Option
· Select Cellular Data Use
· Select Use Less Data

Step 3: How to reduce data usage on Whatsapp.

· Go to Whatsapp
· Click on the Menu button
· Select Settings
· Click on Data Usage
· Under Media auto-download select When using mobile data

- The reason for un-checking the boxes is to reduce the amount of data used in downloading every file received·
Under Call Settings check the box for Low data usage
- The reason for un-checking the boxes is to reduce the amount of data used while making Whatsapp call/video.

Step 4: How to reduce data usage on Google Play.

· Go to Google Play
· Select the Menu button
· Click on Settings
· Under General, select Auto-update apps
· Select Do not auto-update apps or Auto-update apps over Wi-Fi only
- When you select Do not auto-update apps, no app will be updated automatically.

BusinessRe: See How MTN Now Deduct People's Airtime Without Sending Any Message by JideSM: 8:51am On Sep 12, 2017
mrNEMZY:
I noticed recently that when ever I recharged, I get deducted. The most annoying is that I just bought #2k airtime to subscribe, and #34 was deducted from it.

I got fed up and called MTN, and the customer care representative told me that #2 is deducted from my account each time I dial a code for mobile banking.

The issue is that since today I have been trying to recharge directly from my bank account, and each time I got this error message "connection problem or invalid MMI code" (note : this error message is due to MTN network, and if you dialed the code on another SIM, it will go) . I tried recharging from my fidelity account, no way,I switched to my UBA account still the same error message.

I eventually had to go out and buy the recharge card and MTN saw it fit to deduct my airtime for something that didn't even work, saying that I dialed the mobile banking code 17 times, and that it is one of MTN's hidden charges. This makes me think that MTN intensionally give the error message, so you will have to retry and then they will deduct from you each time.

Please have anyone else noticed this or is it just my sim?, also for those using other Networks, are you deducted anytime you dial *904# or another banking code?

Also please if you know have any info on how I can switch my mobile banking to my airtel line tell me, because it's telling me that my account have already been registered in another SIM.

Hi INTERMAN,

I'm so sorry for the inconvenience this must have caused you. You can send your mobile number via private message to enable me run checks on your line

However, i would like to share with all, some useful information/tips on how to effectively manage data consumption on devices.

Some of the popular/common apps like witter, Facebook, Instagram, Whatsapp, Playstore/Appstore etc could have a high data consumption rate if not well managed.

DATA USAGE GUIDE
Step 1: How to reduce data usage on Facebook app.

· Go to Facebook app
Click the Facebook menu option
· Select App settings
· Select Autoplay
· Click ‘Never Autoplay Videos’
- The reason for selecting ‘Never Autoplay Videos’ is to stop autoplay of videos while reading through the News feeds.
- The longer you spend on the News feeds, the higher your data consumption as the Facebook app automatically downloads every image on the page.

Step 2: How to reduce data usage on Instagram.
· Go to Instagram app

· Click on Menu Option
· Select Cellular Data Use
· Select Use Less Data
- The reason for selecting ‘Use Less Data’ is to reduce the quality of videos and pictures.
- The longer you spend on the Story feeds, the higher your data consumption as the Instagram app automatically downloads every image on the page.

Step 3: How to reduce data usage on Whatsapp.

· Go to Whatsapp
· Click on the Menu button
· Select Settings
· Click on Data Usage
· Under Media auto-download select When using mobile data
· Un-check the boxes the click ok

- When you select Auto-update over Wi-Fi only, apps will automatically update once connected via Wi-Fi. In the event where you share data via MiFi/Hotspot connectivity, Auto-update app over Wi-Fi only should be switched to Do not auto-update apps.

Thirdly, it is also important to note that doing nothing on your phone while your data is ON enables RUNNING apps on your device to connect automatically. For example, Whatsapp/Facebook/Twitter messages would drop even when you are not with your phone. Also, when you turn on your data connection, all apps that have pending internet transactions (e.g messages from social media sites) immediately drop. Thus, your data is deducted according to the volume of instant messages. This is where background data setting comes into play. If you go to your data usage settings and click on any of the apps showing the data used, you'd see data consumed listed as: Foreground and Background. Most often, background data is usually high. If you wish to turn off background data, see below.

How to turn off background data.

· From Menu go to Settings
· Select Data usage/Data Traffic management
· Click on the App
· Check the Restrict background data box
- This will prevent apps from running on the background when phone is not in use. However, once background data is switched off, notifications will not drop in real time and will be pended until the user accesses the app.
