This is really getting out of hand and more than annoying. Last week, I was said to have subscribed to one MTN game and #60 was deducted. Same happened the following day but #10 was deducted after I've unsubscribed. I re-unsubsribed again. I loaded a few minutes ago now and the next thing I saw now is " Dear Customer, you have successfully subscribed to Mobile Magazine Weekly and 50.00 deducted from your account. Your service will be renewed on 2017-05-16. To cancel, text STOP MAG to 30801. Enjoy!"
What's my business with Mobile magazine? I never subscribed to it and yet my money is being deducted without my permission. It is really getting on my nerves now and can't even concentrate cos of the anger building up in me. Been trying to call their customer care but couldn't get through.
This has to stop and in fact I'd want the refund of all my credit removed unjustly. What's the way forward Nairalanders?

I'm in shock, my phone had been in my pocket, with keypad locked!


I called and was told flat out that I would not be getting a refund but the service would be discontinued.


As in, it was either the customer care rep I spoke with did not understand the part were I made it clear that I did not subscribe for the service.


These guys are fleecing folks of their money and it needs to stop!

Hi dejt4u, please be informed that the MTN Friends and Friends package is no longer available. The tariff plans currently available are MTN Pulse, MTN XtraSpecial, MTN BetaTalk and MTN XtraValue.
1.MTN Pulse is prepaid tariff plan that allows customers make calls at a FLAT rate of 11kobo/sec for calls ACROSS ALL local Networks in Nigeria after spending NGN10 daily. To Migrate dial *406*1# OR TEXT 406 TO 131
SMS to all local Networks in Nigeria will cost you N4.
2. MTN BetaTalk is prepaid tariff plan that rewards customers with 150% airtime bonus on every recharge below N100 and 250% airtime bonus on recharges from N100 and above. Calls would be charged at 40kobo/sec to all local Networks in Nigeria from the main and bonus airtime. Dial *123*2*6# to migrate or BT TO 131.
3. MTN Xtraspecial is a prepaid tariff plan that allows you enjoy a flat rate of 15kobo/sec for calls to all local Networks in Nigeria and to some selected international destinations from the very first second. Dial *408*1# or text 408 to 131 to migrate.
4. MTN Xtravalue tariff Plan is a plan that rewards you airtime for National SMS & calls, International calls to selected destinations and volumes of data for browsing after subscribing to xtraValue bundle plan.
The XtraValue bundle is divided into XtraTalk (this bundle gives you more airtime than data) and XtraData (this bundle gives you more data than airtime). You can purchase any XtraValue bundles by dialing *131*2#. Once you exhaust your bundle and you do not renew it, your calls, SMS or data will be deducted from your main account at the tariff plan rate(National calls will be charged at 20k/sec, standard International call rate and National SMS at N4).

I believe I'm not the only one affected but I wanna use this medium to cry out cos if MTN is not called to order, they will continue to reap us with impunity "like forever".

To cut the complaint short, MTN is fund of activating unsolicited packages on my line leading to several deductions which I cannot account for. Anytime I call their Customer Care to complain, the solution is always "We are sorry for any inconveniences". Until MTN is made to return all unsolicited deductions on our lines, I don't think they will stop anytime soon.

Drop your comments and experiences.
Let's see how far we could push this.

Hi Chisomhustler, apologies for the inconvenience. Checks on your line revealed that you were billed N4 for each sms you sent. However, please note that a page of sms can contain a maximum of 160 characters ONLY. Once it passes that, you will be billed for two sms pages. Let me know if you need more clarification. Regards

I exhausted my subscription yesterday, and decided to quickly opt for a daily plan pending when i will get airtime for a monthly sub, but i observed that my social media apps(Facebook, BBM, Twitter & WhatsApp) aint working and i can browse.
I restarted the phone severally yesterday but all to no avail, i placed calls to MTN call center this morning, the first agent i spoke with said its a network problem while the other sent me a manual configuration to input which i did; yet the situation remains the same.

so i subscribed to whatsapp weekly some weeks ago on MTN, within that same week i subscribed for airtel data plan and dumped the MTN sub though i was still using the line for calls oblivious of the fact that this crooks still deduct #25 from my account in the name of auto renewal. recently i subscribed to #500 1GB weekly on that MTN line, now fast forward to two days ago, like they knew i wasn't aware and maybe the spirit touched the auto-machine to confess, i received a message informing me of expiration and consequent auto-renewal of my whatsapp weekly bundle in two days time (today) without the code to stop the auto-renewal, i was stunned, but then, knowing the antics and criminal nature of this fraudulent network, i calmly called 180, followed the DIY instructions stuff, at the end i was sent a message that i was not subscribed or have unsubscribed from it. ah! i relaxed....better i thought. i've stopped the scam in progress. i congratulated myself.

Only for me to receive a message this night that my whatsapp weekly bundle subscription was successful! ah!! for real ? huh obviously MTN was hell bent on carrying out this scam. my eye just red, as i was already angry before the message came in, so, i called the customer care, straight to their representatives abi ambassadors, and the young lady listened to me patiently, checked my line and told me that emm, it was not canceled properly if she should cancel it, and i told her to cancel it and return my #25, she said it was not possible. i was like, come, is your brain paining you huh i said take ya data and give me my money now i dont want again. now she says she have canceled it, i've not even received a message to that effect and now i'm left wondering........though i told her she would see it on NL undecided
