FamilyObama's Thoughts On Being A Dad by jidewin(op): 8:45pm On Jun 17, 2013
Hi, everybody. This Sunday is Father’s Day, and
so I wanted to take a moment to talk about the
most important job many of us will ever have –
and that’s being a dad.
Today we’re blessed to live in a world where
technology allows us to connect instantly with
just about anyone on the planet. But no matter
how advanced we get, there will never be a
substitute for the love and support and, most
importantly, the presence of a parent in a child’s
life. And in many ways, that’s uniquely true for
fathers.
I never really knew my own father. I was raised by
a single mom and two wonderful grandparents
who made incredible sacrifices for me. And there
are single parents all across the country who do a
heroic job raising terrific kids. But I still wish I had
a dad who was not only around, but involved;
another role model to teach me what my mom
did her best to instill – values like hard work and
integrity; responsibility and delayed gratification –
all the things that give a child the foundation to
envision a brighter future for themselves.
That’s why I try every day to be for Michelle and
my girls what my father was not for my mother
and me. And I’ve met plenty of other people –
dads and uncles and men without a family
connection – who are trying to break the cycle
and give more of our young people a strong male
role model.
Being a good parent – whether you’re gay or
straight; a foster parent or a grandparent – isn’t
easy. It demands your constant attention,
frequent sacrifice, and a healthy dose of patience.
And nobody’s perfect. To this day, I’m still
figuring out how to be a better husband to my
wife and father to my kids.
And I want to do what I can as President to
encourage marriage and strong families. We
should reform our child support laws to get more
men working and engaged with their children.
And my Administration will continue to work with
the faith and other community organizations, as
well as businesses, on a campaign to encourage
strong parenting and fatherhood.
Because if there’s one thing I’ve learned along
the way, it’s that all our personal successes shine
a little less brightly if we fail at family. That’s what
matters most. When I look back on my life, I
won’t be thinking about any particular legislation
I passed or policy I promoted. I’ll be thinking
about Michelle, and the journey we’ve been on
together. I’ll be thinking about Sasha’s dance
recitals and Malia’s tennis matches – about the
conversations we’ve had and the quiet moments
we’ve shared. I’ll be thinking about whether I did
right by them, and whether they knew, every
day, just how much they were loved.
That’s what I think being a father is all about. And
if we can do our best to be a source of comfort
and encouragement to our kids; if we can show
them unconditional love and help them grow into
the people they were meant to be; then we will
have succeeded.
Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there, and
have a great weekend.

Sike: This just came in. MTN Nigeria revised it’s call tariffs across board. The revision exercise which started at the beginning of the week with the introduction of MTN SmoothTalk and MTNTruTalk, has just been concluded with the revision of two of the existing plans–SuperSaver and MTN Pulse
which were introduced in August
last year . Apparently, subscriber’s
on the old plans have been
automatically migrated to the new
plans already.
The change may related to NCC’s
stance that MTN was a dominant
player as a result “uncompetitive”
practices such as offering cheaper
on-net calls than off-net calls or
the concept of “calling clubs” were
going to be sanctioned.
Here’s a breakdown of the New
plans:

gbanikiti: Jonathan/Amaechi Faceoff: Dame Patience Relocates To Port Harcourt

The alleged move by the Presidency to remove the Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi took a dramatic turn yesterday as the first lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, has decided to take the bull by the horn in the matter.

LEADERSHIP Sunday gathered that the first lady’s visit to Port Harcourt was a move to ensure that the State House of Assembly members are mobilised to ensure Governor Amaechi’s impeachment from office.

The first lady moved into a newly-built mansion in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital. She is expected to spend 11 days in Port Harcourt. But our sources said that the first lady has vowed not to leave the Garden City until the governor is finally removed from office.

It was gathered that as at yesterday night, Dame Jonathan had met with some of the lawmakers in an alleged move to start the plot to hasten the impeachment process, while the venue of the meeting could not be ascertained as at press time.

The new move became necessary as the Presidency believes that Dame Jonathan, being an indigene of the state and also being well grounded in the politics of the state, has all it takes to effect the governor’s removal.

The political differences between President Jonathan and Governor Amaechi reached its crescendo when the Presidency allegedly started mobilising against Amaechi’s bid for a second term shot at the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) chairmanship position. The NGF’s chairmanship election led to the factional division amongst the governors, creating a faction led by Amaechi and another being led by Governor Jang of Plateau State.

There are allegations that the Presidency created the Jang’s faction to break the stronghold of Amaechi and some anti-Jonathan governors that are bent on seeing that the President does not run for a second term.

Thereafter, the federal government in a surprise move grounded the plane belonging to the state government, while threatening to probe the administration of Governor Amaechi over mismanagement of funds.

The drama continued with the NGF’s crisis, which eventually led to the suspension of Governor Amaechi from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

It would be recalled that the name of the governor is already being pencilled down as a possible vice presidential candidate on a ticket that would parade a Northerner as the presidential candidate to challenge President Goodluck Jonathan in 2015.

This move, the President sees as an affront, as Amaechi being a South-South man, would be denying the region of a second shot at the Presidency.

The first lady’s move, according to sources, therefore became necessary to weed out the “Judas” within the fold of the ruling party.

This is one of my fears about infidelity.Once a committed man strays and feesl 'loved' by the strange woman, its often hard to let go.its more of a psychological and ego thing. The woman at home were either oblivious of some emotional needs or she doing it purpose. And there is the strange woman outside equally seeking companionship and perhaps financial support, but WILLING to give the married guy his desires.
Just as every woman wants to be treated as queens even when they come up with their behavioral nonsense most times, likewise every hard working man wants to be treated like a King.I support the idea of couples spending time together alone. It doesn't matter if they have kids or not.Church,Politics,Extended Family,Business, shouldn't have overwhelming effect on your relationship. At the end of the day,its still gonna be you and your spouse or partner....wish you luck..

THE CASE ABOUT THE KILLED NIGERIA BY THE SOUTH AFRICAN POLICE WAS FILED BY SOME GOOD NIGERIANS WITH THE HELP OF THE NIGERIA HIGH COMMISSION IN PRETORIA. HOWEVER, I HAVE ONE ADVICE FOR YOU, SELL THOSE PROPERTIES AND BRING YOUR MONEY HOME AND INVEST IN YOUR HOME TOWN.
Good point henry.I was with the attachee to the Nigerian High Commission. He shared with me what I'm going to share here with all countrymen abroad.
1. Regularize your stay in any country you are.Be legal and never handle with levity your permits to stay, work or wot wot. This regularization excludes asylum.
2.If you have certificates, put in for work engagement. No matter how hard or long it takes, one day, favor will smile on you.
3.If you legit and your papers are in tact,if anyone law agents harrasses you, please, contact Nigerian High Commission at Illovo,JHB.With. Proofs and any evidences whatsoever, they will take upp your case.
4.Find any reputable Nigerian Union and join.Stop isolating yourselves. If not for the Nigerian union who forwarded the case across to our High Commission,no one there would know what happened.
5.For legit Nigerians in SA,if you need to setup any biz, please take time and pain to register the biz with SARS and NEVER EVER setup your biz in township popularly called LOCATION. Whatever good proceeds is made from your biz, always bare in mind the day xenophobia would start, you won't be spared.First your asset would be looted and you would be moered,if your house is not razed to ashes.Even the municipal would inform you the landed properties is for South African citizens OR PR holders.
6.Please strive to engage in clean and legit businesses.Your local host patrons are the very ones that would turn against you the day your cup would be full.
7.No matter how long you will or stay in diaspora, invest back at home.Always have something to fall back on.
8.No matter how wonderful or beautiful your foreign wife is,please stop praising them above our Nigerian sisters. All your accolades for your foreign wife over your Nigerian sisters would one day bounce back against you,you sisters, mother, aunties, etc.

God bless Nigeria and the rest.

osaman2011: When will police brutality end in Nigeria?
This 22 years old young man was gunned down in Benin city by the DPO of Ogida Barack Police Station.

Ibrahim, who celebrated his 22nd birthday on March 30th, was a part-time student of SLT in University of Benin (Uniben) and was doing his IT in a Pharmaceutical company in Benin City.

Ibrahim was the only son of his parents who live at No.1 Egbeobauwaye street off Siluko road, behind Edo Omo park in Benin City, Edo State.

The DPO, who is a woman, first said that the deceased was an armed robber and that she saw him with a gun which she couldn't produce as evidence and when she saw that the family wants proof, she said it was a result of a mistaken identity.

After shooting the innocent young man, the DPO buried the dead body of the young man without informing his family.
Residents in the area complain about the DPO's brutality and attitude, stating that she is always on the side of the highest bidder.

The family got to know about their son's death when his mother went to report her missing son at the Textile Mill road police station.
The matter has been taken to court and the state commissioner of police, Mr Foluso Adebanjo, was informed about the incident. He promised to look into the matter and plead for calm while he unravel the mischief behind the unprofessional attitude of the DPO.

May his soul rest in peace!

assalaamat: Enough Is Enough;a Case Study Of My Life

Fellow nairalanders, it would be very nice of you to help me with your candid and useful advice so as not to go astray. As you all know, this is not my first time of asking for your brotherly and sisterly advice on this great platform, but I want this to take me to my pomiseland this coming month.

It happened that on the 21st of February, 2012 when I came back from my Youth Service, I had about #96,000 in my bank account which I was able to save from my govt. allowee, though it should have been #186,000, but because while in service my mother got herself involved in a thrift cooperative debt of about #80,000 which really caused her a lot of embarrassment and humiliation. Though, I have elderly ones but none was willing to put down anything, so I had no option than to give her a sum of #90,000 to clear the debt, and to tell you the fact, I didn't regret doing that at all, because I believe it was God's doing. So after the whole thing and before coming back home from service in Kogi state, I called my elder sister and informed her that I wanted to use the remaining money in my account to get an apartment in Ibadan or Osogbo because I believed if I relocated to either of those cities I would get a job even though I do not know anyone there, since these are the cities that I would love to start raising my own family after service, but she convinced me to come back to Lagos to search for job.

My dear brothers and sisters! That was how I came back to lag on the 21st of February, 2012, and started searching for teaching jobs that I love with great passion, but because I have an HND, I couldn't get any, so I had to turn my searchlight on other jobs, but uptil this moment I've not been able to secure one, but before i knew it, I had finished the whole money touring the entire cities of lagos and ogun states searching for jobs.

It's been 1yr 3months now that I've been at home doing nothing, and I want this to stop bcs i'm really really tired of sitting at home idle.So i've made up my mind to try and gather some money to travel to either Ibadan or Osogbo to find a menial job like security job, housekeeping job or cleaning job and use whatever I'm able to make from it to train myself in computer engineering which is the only self-employment job that I'll really love to do, at least this would give me an opportunity of being my own boss. The reason for traveling far is that, I'm a shy person and I would be ashamed of myself to do this kind of jobs where I'm well known and can be easily seen.

So fellow nairalanders, do you think this is the right step for me to take since no good job is forthcoming? I would really appreciate ur advice and suggestions, thanks a lot in advance.
My brother, have you tried teaching at a private schools? since you have passion for teaching, it wont be a bad idea to look at even the elementary schools to start with. The pay may not be enough like your allowee but you sure wont be jobless. Also, while reading your story, something struck me which i feel wont be bad to share with you...what other skills have you accomplished besides the conventional education?.If you look towards learning fashion design, you will be surprised what it could fetch you when you finally become a master in the trade. Our beloved country labor market now is not relying solely on conventional school certificates but as well skills. Never looked down on those with skills....they sure are not beggars. Besides, hmm with skills and if you have a chance to seek green pastures abroad, you will be amazed.my N1 contribution.
