obadiah777: PLAYING WITH HER GRANDCHILDREN AT THE AGE OF 43 ? SHYTTT BACK IN THE DAY GRANDMOTHERS WHERE IN THEIR SIXTIES LWTMB
You surprised? If you are where I am at the moment you wouldn't be at all. That aside,we are africans, and when it comes to family values, regard and respect for your root and fathers house,we africans used to be frontliners. But you see greed and this equal rights, human right wot wot,its been grossly abused. Unfortunately,Africans tend to easily copy ideas and policies that hardly ever promotes family values. When a child is becoming wayward, you cannot sternly correct such child, else you are reported and the next thing social workers charges you with: you are mentally abusing the child...slap,knock on the head, even give few strokes...woah...God help you,you don't spend at least a nite in jail. When I was so young and little,my dad once had a visitor and they shared a bottle of brandy together. He asked me to take the remaining back to the bar deck located inside his room.I decided to have a sip thinking it was like soda...alas,a sip made me tipsy and I spilled some.My dad found out from the aroma oozing from my mouth and those spilled on the floor. He asked me to bring one of his hard rubber sandals and gave me 3 hot smacks on my palm. That served as a deterrent never to take what I wasn't offered. Try that in this so called 'mordern society' abroad hmmm...you can imagine when kids are been taught at school to report their parent if they are even given corporal punishment. What else wiil be the end result of such kids? Where I am at the moment, they are even preparing ante-natal clinics for pregnant female pupils in high school. What message is such policy sending out? Welcome to Mordern World Eish!.

Redman44: Let me start by saying Nigerians need to start thinking like the Pakistani, Bangladeshi and Indian people. These Asians travel just like we do to Europe and North America just like we do. They however have a different mentality from us. They don't don't oppose themselves in a hostile manner like we do on Nairaland. Instead, they pool their resources together to fashion out a great lifestyle for themselves in the western world. I am currently in Birmingham ( UK ) and I am impressed with the mindset of some Asians I have come across. I am yet to see a very successful Nigerian business chain in the UK either in Retail, Engineering etc. Yesterday, I shopped at LATIFS in Birmingham. It was my first time of going there and I was shocked to discover that it is owned by a Pakistani family. The place is so big that you can't possibly cover the whole building on foot. And the facilities there are very modern. It has different floors and the things sold there are affordable and authentic. I saw a lot of White people buying things there. Instead of logging on to Nairaland to criticize ourselves and ask for Nigerians in diaspora to return home, why can't we emulate the Asians and seek to conquer Europe business wise? What is really wrong with us as Nigerians?

Harrods in London is owned by an Egyptian sad sad His name is Mohammed Al Fayed. He also owns Fulham Football Club. Nigerians have been immigrating to the UK for some time now. What have we achieved collectively cry cry cry cry? I'm not talking about us operating Barbing Salons or small restaurants ( Even our small African Restaurants have issues ). The white people prefer eating the Indian, Bengal, Pakistani and Bangladeshi cuisines than our own delicacies cry cry cry Why are we not marketing our food to Westerners huh huh huh?. It is true that there is nowhere like home. However, what opportunities is Nigeria presenting to her citizens? I was in Nigeria recently and things haven't changed that much. Constant electricity has still not been achieved in Nigeria. I could not sleep well due to the noise of Generators. I stayed with our first born and all the flats in the compound had generators cry cry You can imagine the noise I had to endure every night as I battled to get some sleep. Yes, people do menial jobs in the UK and the USA, but they also move on to better jobs as the years go by. Nigerians migrate to the USA, Canada and the UK in different circumstances. I did not come to the UK as a student. I came on visiting and did not return to Nigeria because of my circumstances. People that came to the UK on student visas get a UK Degree that helped them get on the ladder of professional jobs. I did not have a chance to study in the UK. I am legal in the UK now and I am gradually learning the secrets of succeeding as an immigrant in Britain. There are some things I regret not learning before coming to the UK. Please, if you want to come and live in the UK, know how to DRIVE. Learn how to drive in Nigeria before travelling to the UK, USA or Canada. Also, it would be good if you are good with your hands. Acquire technical skills like Brick Laying, Welding or Rewiring. These skills will come in handy when you are here. If you can drive, you will be amazed at the kind of things you can do to earn money in the UK.

I love Nigeria a lot. However, I want to achieve some things here. London is not the only city in the UK. Move to a city where you can get cheaper housing. It will be hard at first to get jobs, but it pays in the long run. And please learn to drive as quickly as possible. Sell things online to augment your wages or open a business. I am interested in linking up with Nigerians in Birmingham and the West Midlands. Lets explore the opportunities of this place together. Email me at: tolukandi@yahoo.com Cheers.
Respect!!!

Not a bad move. But my question is what can it cost us in Naija to design and develop our own?.Iran have designed theirs and likewise they have their own stealth aircraft.China, korea, just to mention few...i believe and i know we have Nigerian citizens who could design, develop and produce this light weight surveillance-cum-air-assault devices.
Since we are producing our own assault rifles, bullet proof gears for the Nigerian Army.God bless My Nigeria and the rest.

Curfew Imposed
The Nigerian Army yesterday
formally commenced air and ground
hostilities against Boko Haram under
emergency regulations in thick
forests in Sambisa, Borno State in an
area the sect was reported to have
used as a recruiting and training
base.
A senior military officer source said

fled the heavy military onslaught.
The source said that there is yet to
be any serious offensive mounted by
the sect, stressing that the Nigerian
Army is backed by the Nigerian Air
Force who are part of the
operations.
The source also told us that soldiers
are hunting down members of the
Boko Haram sect in all their
identified bases in Gashua, Yobe
state. Banks and other public and
government businesses have been
instructed to suspend their
operations.
Meanwhile, a 6pm to 6am curfew has
been imposed on Yola, Adamawa

Hold your horses....You need to know where in SA and where will be safe for your honey moon wot wot. Joburg may be very affordable, you may even get B&B (bed and breakfast) lodging for as low as R150 a nite but what about security? For me Jozy is a NO-NO.
I'll advise Durban (good weather all round) first and then or may be Cape town. Even Cape Town as nice, exotic and wonderful, you still need to be careful if you the type that keep late nights.
Try and make enough arrangement perhaps with someone reliable on ground to pick you and don't be too care free. The latest fad now is to trail people(Nigerians in particular cos we come in with BTA in US$$$) from O.R Tambo intl. and rob them.
Happy married life in advance and take care of you.

fittty: The death of the young Nigerian (mr solomon) who was killed in the street of Malaysia which really made most people who have right sense to understand what is good from what is bad unhappy whit citizens of Malaysia mostly the Indian’s for the killing of an innocent man which led to people saying a lot of bad things about Malaysia.
But to prove Africans wrong that not all Malaysian’s that have got negative mind or don’t like the Africans in Malaysia or any part of the world, a new African restaurant was open by a local Malaysian woman who calls herself MAMA G which is one big name in the Nigeria movie industry and want on naming her restaurant MAMA PUT RESTAURANT which is also a very common name in the food business in Nigeria kind of sounds interesting and she went on doing something that is not really common in Malaysia, she offered almost all kinds of Nigerian food free to all guests who came for the opening of the new African restaurant and she made a great move by making it mandatory to every local Malaysians, Indians, Chinese who made it to have experience of the Nigerians foods, with hundreds of Nigerians who said they have known her for some time now and she is not in any way a woman you will regret to have as a friend, some called her mama g some called her sister when we try asking her about how the idea of the names came up she laugh and said I be omo 9ja which means am a Nigerian child, my real 9ja friends gave me the name MAMA G and showed me the woman in a Nigeria movie and i think that was the first time it ever came to my mind that I could see Nigeria movie from then I started watching Nigeria movies online and as for the name I gave to my restaurant is just to hold that tag of Nigeria I have not been to Nigeria but I can tell strongly that they are people of good heart, respect one thing I really love about them is that they love helping people even if they don’t know you and they could also be bad sometimes but not as bad as people put it all over the news and right now am happy they are not letting me down but I still love my country Malaysia is the best for me hahaha, when she was asked about solomon’s death she said it’s sad i am a mother myself i will not love to talk about it as we all know the only way to help the family is to show them love so they can at list forget about this sad time no matter how hard it’s going to be ….wow sounds interesting we which you luck MAMA G..
@ Ops..This is very encouraging and inspiring and i pray more positive news like this emanate from that part of the world.Unlike some african countries that tag Nigeria and Nigerians with anything and everything that is bad.I pray the bad eggs there wont be more in numbers compared to the good ones.Nice one ops.Proudly Naija.

It is true foreigners too come to nairaland to 'pick' information and act on them (I've witnesses that myself even at a public cafe) and as such,I propose it won't be wrong to use our second national language which I do believe every tribe in Nigeria does understand."PIDGIN".This is my take and thanks for consideration.Area!!!

‘Unloved’ Nigerians seek easier path to SA

TRADE is booming between Africa’s two giants, but the often disagreeable process of getting a visa for South Africa is making Nigerians feel unloved.

The country’s finance minister, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, put her finger on a sore point on Monday, underlining how political and diplomatic relations have lagged behind commercial ones.

A real effort has begun to try to warm things up. President Jacob Zuma went to Abuja last month to ensure that his opposite number, Goodluck Jonathan, would be coming for a full-blown state visit to South Africa followed by participation in the May 8-10 World Economic Forum on Africa 2013 this week. Mr Jonathan flew to Cape Town airport last night.

By an increasingly important barometer — money — the links between South Africa and Nigeria are strong. The value of bilateral trade rose to R36.6bn last year, five times the 2002 level. Nigeria’s soaring oil exports meant trade last year was heavily in Nigeria’s favour, by a ratio of five to one.

But crude oil and cruder cash are not the only yardsticks. After rattling off a long list of Nigeria’s attractions to investors, Ms Okonjo-Iweala dwelt on Monday on a more human problem.

"Nigerians do not feel very happy when they go to get a South African visa," she told a breakfast in Johannesburg organised by the South Africa-Nigeria Chamber of Commerce. In its efforts to rebuff Nigeria’s flotsam and jetsam, South Africa’s consulate in Lagos has angered the much larger numbers of legal and usually affluent applicants.

"We know we have elements within our society who are up to no good. We are sorry about that. But that should not (serve to) make policy," Ms Okonjo-Iweala said. The issue blew up last year when South Africa’s immigration authorities refused entry to Nigerians who lacked yellow fever certificates. There was an immediate tit-for-tat response and the South African authorities backed down.

"It’s the country that is the most profitable for us in Africa. In 20 years, we think it will be the most profitable in the group, including South Africa," said Helmut Engelbrecht, Standard Bank’s head of investment banking in Africa.
