Special Forces should be a certification program. You should not just "train and graduate" special forces and they go out immediately and become SFs.

If what you expect from a speech from a national leader about a pandemic is inspiration then you have serious psychological problem. This is a global problem requiring discipline, action, self management, support for community efforts, compliance with instructions. You want to be ispired. I sorry for you. Education is realy deficient in this country.
Foreign Affairs / Re: Trump Instructs US Navy To Shoot Down Iranian Gunboats If They Harass US Ships by Jimi24: 3:15pm On Apr 22, 2020
Trump sees no value in playing Iran (Hizbollah) against Saudi Arabia (ISIS). I prefer the Obama model. It is more cerebral. The world is very complex and Trump is an amateur. Middle powers are important - Israel, Iran, Saudi, Nigeria, Indian, Pakistan, Turkey etc. They have interests and will assert them. The lone superpower is to use brains work for balancing the interests against each other and formulate long range strategies of containment ...not behaving like a reality show star.

How about someone like Akinwumi Adesina? Must nepotism be number 1 in Nigeria?

Dr Akinwumi Adesina is a proven administrator. He would do better than all those people listed up there

Since we are listing profiles here, let me drop the profile of Akinwumi Adesina for those who do not know

* Akinwumi Adesina is the President of the African Development Bank

* He was Vice President of Policy and Partnerships for the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA)

* He attended a village school in Oyo and went ahead to graduate with a Bachelors in Agricultural Economics with First Class Honors from the University of Ife, Nigeria (1981) (Note: A first class from OAU is no joke)

* He was the first student to be awarded this first class in that department in OAU

* He has his masters from Purdue University in Indiana

* He has a PhD (Agricultural Economics) in 1988 from Purdue where he won the Outstanding PhD Thesis for his research work.

* He worked at the Rockefeller Foundation since winning a fellowship from the Foundation as a senior scientist

* His short time as Minister of Agriculture in Nigeria created the agricultural revolution we are enjoying today.

* He is the current President of the African Development Bank

I am tired of typing.

One of the reasons why I will soon get out of Nairaland is that too many ignorant people are posting stuff. People just grow up in Nigeria, get improper education refuse to research anything, are incapable of thinking and then they post stuff out of rank amateurishness and childishness.
Wetin concern Akinwunmi Adesina for COS to a President matter?.
Do you even know what the job entails?
It is not even a constitutional office. If I was appointed President today, I wont appoint a Chief Of Staff.
It is also an office that requires zero technocracy. In fact the best appointees for Chief Of Staff to a President are ex Military officers. The job is to control all presidency staff, administer Aso Rock, control access to the President, channel all reports coming from all organs of government and from the Head Of Service (who controls the ministries) to the President for information and decision making.

It is a very political and policy follow-up job. Presidents can appoint anybody Chief Of Staff and it is at the discretion of a President what to determine weaknesses he has that needs balancing by a Chief Of Staff. I would be surprised if Adesina would be interested in COS job and I would be even more surprised the President that would want to make him COS.
Imagine Adesina seating in a meeting where they are discussing how to deal with a recalcitrant governor, whom to appoint as minister or how to respond to the President of Chad? OR how to handle a problematical Senate President?
These are some of the day to day things that a COS deals with.
It is a very political job, a partisan job. It is not for necessarily accomplished professionals in economics or business. It is for loyalists (long term friends or backers) of a President who are capable in forcing all organs of governments to comply to policy directions.

Please if you are going to comment on issues concerning governance, try to understand how governments work first

However, since the people the statement or (curse) is mainly directed at are also admirers of Donald Trump, it is gratifying to watch them see low grade human psychology from the opposing side and imagine how worse things will get when your response is "telling it like it is" to this kind of behaviour.

Correct 2Kobo !!!!

You just summarized the final solution to this 10 year insane insurgency, this is the only known strategy Nigeria has not yet used because in a strange way, MoD, ONSA, NA Procurement units have never suggested or tried it. Yet we want to win CT-COIN war?

Such asymmetric wars are driven by mechanized infantry/composite regiments, platoon-centric frontline fighting units.

The platoons need light weight < 5 tonne, light foot print, high speed, all terrain urban field land amphibious Motorized infantry vehicles combined with medium weight < 15 tonne, heavy anti-gun-truck firepower, enemy battalion size assault force suppression firepower, accurate firepower range 1 km to 4 km effective on a point target.

Add the; full platoon (every soldier connected not only Oga NCO & CO) comms + personal night vision, add that Platoon Level long range thermal vision you said – and hey, get all the other smart human aspects of CT-COIN conflict right, and this bloodie war is over for ever!

A Nigerian mechanized infantry platoon of 50 troops must have enough modern equipment firepower to fight alone and totally defeat 400 or else we are no longer a quality army and continental power !!!

A task force deployed detachment of Nigerian mechanized infantry company of 200 troops must be able to fight alone to hold their AOR for a calculated number of days, against a calculated number of repeated enemy assaults, without degrading into a combat ineffective unit/detachment.

Those who should do what you say are not interested, they have photos of good IFVs on their Samsung phone, you see pics of our AFSF DHQ and ONSA MoD top shots playing with ATGMs at annual European Arms Expo – but they just think the day this war spending ends, they will be missing something grin grin

Nigerians just need to learn to be sincere with ourselves, like does Rwandan MoD do better procurement? Rwandan population is half of Lagos grin grin when I saw Rwandan Otokar Cobras armed with ATGM some years ago, and I was laughing at Nigerians' level of insincerity once they hold public seat of authority, like they've become gods now grin grin

It's not all about ignorance, low budget, etc, it includes failure to buy right things for national defence and nobody gets sacked from office or demoted for it.

Please stop this over emphasis on over equipping platoons with gold plated stuff that have no relevance to battle field evolving threats. The NA is doing a lot of "appropriate procurement ".
What you dont want to buy is kit that is useless in battle. A lot of the stuff you are suggesting cannot work.and half would be captured by Boko Haram. They get captured not because NA is weak but because BHT can sacrifice 5 suicide bombers to capture one tank and they can isolate heavy weapons for capture in the heat of battle.
On ATGMs, we have made the point severally that they are difficult to use in a dynamic battle environment. Compared with recoiless rifles and ordinary RPGs, ATGMs are a dud and there are technical issues - guidance systems get interfered with, vegetation cover can disturb electro optics.
The NA has asked for choppers, give them that instead of expensive field equipment to be fielded against a weaker enemy who knows how to choose his battles and wont play to your strengths.

There are also wider threat landscapes than Boko Haram. Nigeria is restocking on main battle tanks in a few months but most of these are going to other theaters aside from Boko Haram

"Ganduje won re-election as governor and quickly ordered the creation of four new emirates in Kano in a bid to reduce Sanusi's control and influence."

How on earth did a Governor have the power to create Emirates, that's just odd

He has 100% of the power. Emirates are not LGAs. Governors can play with traditional institutions anyway they like. Ganduje is not doing half of what we have done in the SW with traditional institutions.
In the SW, we have dethroned, banished, demoted and sometimes exiled traditional rulers. We've been doing it since the 50s.
Most Nigerians reason kids that is why I have corrected people many times that the problem with Nigeria is not the Presidency but Governors. Governors are emperors. They reign usually unchecked in their states and they are getting away with blue murder because they can sell ethnic nationalism to those who cannot see beyond their hatred. When they do that they come into power and illegally appropriate LGA funds, play around with traditional institutions and finance thugs and ethnic militias to perpetuate themselves in power.
What if SLS was the kind of person who sends mobs into the streets? .
Governors are the reason that Nigeria is unsafe, not Buhari and if you have not figured this out yet, you need to travel

You're spot on. Part of United problems is persisting with clearly inconsistent players....players that can't guarantee at least 7/10 performance every single week. They are still waiting for Shaw to become world class, still waiting for Lingard, still waiting for Pereira, Jones and many others too. For all Martial's talent, hes inconsistent for a club looking to win big trophies. With better creativity from midfield, Rashford can deliver but the harsh truth remains hes not ruthless enough. Right now sef, classic traditional no 9s are scarce. Teams go now for winger cum forwards. When the main centre forwards don't get high figures, the right and left wingers chip in with 15+ goals
Right now, United forward players CAN'T guarantee that and they can't keep waiting if they want to achieve big things

It is sad but Ighalo at an older age probably has more potential to be a top goal scorer than the younger Martial and Rashford. He gets into the positions and in the 18 yard box and is not afraid to try the odd 35yard strikes at goal. You need that hunger, that fearlessness and that faith

SUPREMACY BATTLE IN BOKO HARAM/ISWAP LEADERSHIP/ FIGHTERS AMONG THE KANURIS, HAUSAS AND THE CHADIANS

All is indeed not well in the terrorists' camps as highly reliable sources have again confirmed growing animosity, distrust, division and deepening crisis in the BHT/ISWAP Camps.

Current reliable information received on Saturday the 7th of March, 2020 has revealed that there is indeed further division, mistrust and deepening crisis within the terrorists' camps.

The latest open hostility in the terrorists' camps came about as a result of the fall out of the recent attack on GARKIDA in Adamawa State and the pyrrhic attempt to capture Damboa in Borno State that was jointly executed by three deadly groups of the sect.

The monumental losses both in men and equipment the terrorists suffered has aggravated the suspicion between and among the groups. Some are accusing others of leaking information of the planned attack to the security agencies and outright lack of will to fight with some of the fighters took to their heels in the face of the fire power of the Nigerian Army.

At the moment, highly reliable sources have further indicated that there has been acrimonious infighting over what the terrorists described as "the fierce struggle for the acquisition and control of booty" such as proceeds of kidnappings, robberies and attacks on vulnerable targets by the Abubakar Shekau led group and the other two prominent groups of the terrorists sect.

Reliable sources have alerted that the acrimonious struggle for supremacy and control of booty has again led to the extermination of one of the leaders of the insurgents' groups by members of the other 2 terrorists' groups.

In retaliation, the group whose leader popularly known as Amir ibn Abdulfatawi (who was appointed less than two months ago) was killed decided to avenge the killing by executing the leader of one of the 2 groups (whose identity is yet to be ascertained) who masterminded the killing of their leader.

Subsequently, the situation got worse when they went back to Lake Chad area. At the Lake Chad area, the Budumas and Yantawawen Chad (Chadian twins) who have upto 400 members demanded to produce a leader and overall Commander of the sect to specifically take Charge of the Chad basin.

As this was brewing, the Hausa - Fulani elements among the BHTs expressed misgivings, - arguing that nobody should address or deliver sermon to them in Kanuri language anymore, and warned that they will never accept it again, citing what they termed as "increasing negation of the original tenets of holy Quraan and prophetic hadith" by the Kanuri Amirs.

At Present, there is serious crack and fierce acrimony and conflict of interest as well as infighting and battle of supremacy in the terrorists' camps, - a development that if well utilized by the Nigerian security forces could surely hasten the final and total destruction of Boko Haram and ISWAP's terrorism in the country.

Prayers being answered. Always do the spiritual work first

List of emerging Def-Sec reports :

1. Fed house of Reps Abuja, current 2020 new special purpose, expedited bill, to create/invest a new dedicated fund outside normal budgets, to fully retrain and re-equip NA, NN, NAF, bill has passed first reading, now passed second reading successfully. Means at high speed, heading for NASS passage. FGN has no power to refuse it.

2. NAF 3 JF-17 Block II upgraded variant at total cost $184 million with full block 2 options will arrive NAF bases, in FOC, to join combat action this November, confirmed by CAS at Kaduna graduation ceremony. Price package includes all training, dumb ordnance, guided missiles, pods, ground support/maintenance facilities, plus price of each of three planes.

3. FGN Presidency has directly taken over Ezugwu MRAP and entire fleet of new locally made army vehicles. It will no longer be NAVMC controlled project, even with DICON as major stakeholder. Reason is to ensure future success of projects so EZUGWU MRAP does not end in failure like dead Igirigi APC.

Implication is; Presidency decided to grant financial support and admin participation consistently into the future, by adopting Ezugwu MRAP as a part of President Buhari's 2015 promise of local military industrial complex to be paid for within a few years in office by his FG administration.

4. Some legislators are complaining that this new military retraining and weapons/equipment procurement bill is passing so fast without Army publicly accounting for all past special funding for North East CT-COIN war for a decade.

That minority group of reps are saying that must be done before this new jumbo fund is released, fund created separate from annual budgets, meant for modernization procurement - modern training. Reps majority is not insisting on the past accountability (is this a good idea to soft pedal? Who knows?).

This new wave of special modernization procurement funding is a result of massive pressure from Nigerian masses through their reps in their constituencies, till the pressure boiled to yield result now in Abuja NASS. It will be a Reps/Senate alone project but will be finalized and Presidency asked to accent to this bill for formalities sake. The House of Reps has listened to the cries of the people.

NAF has publicly accounted for all it's capital procurement funds except for Mi-35 and Mi-8 / Mi-171.

NN too accounted for spendings on all OPV, some MPV, IPV, gunboats spending and some helicopters.

NA needs to please, open up, on past procurement spending from at least 2014-2020 so as not to stall this new juicy fund opportunity, we the people fought hard to win this new high speed modernization package for you that we even included army soldiers retraining, after our letter upon letter, petition upon petition, NGO upon NGO, community elders upon elders, till begging yielded the fastest bill in our recent DefSec history.

Money for equipment will be in billions of dollars and not dependent on any bureaucratic, slow, limited budget, all those $50 billion CBN Reserve, $2 billion, or $3 billion special reserve funds, now hands will enter those bags to bring out special funds from different sources.

DHQ please do the easy part, submit few pages paper details of past half decade military spending, so we can have a new shopping time starting 2020. Let good guys have new things to post here having tried enough repeating your same old equipment over 5 years.

Don't let this new chance get stalled by the minority reps who are standing on transparency of past transactions. Thank you NA, please wake up, please cooperate, Nigerians are begging of you, forever war will damage the quality of our lives nationwide.

We need $5bn CAPEX for procurement and local arms production annually for the next five years. It is a very good idea to standardize on Ezugwu and use a variety of turrets for different missions.

We are all tired of any unity that doesn't bring progress. Even Hausas are changing their Almajiri nonsense... Guess everyone is now smelling the proverbial coffee.

This is actually a lot BS. Regional security arrangements are illegal and sub optimal. At the state level, yes there could be a measure of legality in it. However the context is too complex for states and regional outfits to be relevant.
There is no money to fight this at a sub national level.
We are seeing forced displacementsof Fulanis due to climate change, attacks by farmers all over west africa and pressure by ISWAP/Jihadists.
Neither western nor Eastern Nigeria are capable of containing the sheer numbers of herders militia if the FG opens borders for instance.
If you think Nigeria's regions have the money to contain them you are dreaming. The people we are talking about are not a conventional military force. They are highly adaptable, guerrillas hiding in the forests.

People should control their emotions and tribal mob mentality and look at this as a strategic security problem to be solved.
