Hello Family,

What is the best route to travel to Nigerian and with which Airline? Anything I need to be aware of in advance? Who has travelled to Nigeria recently?

Is it best to travel through USA is one has a UK/EU passport to to travel via Europe?

I heard Nigeria and Niger have issue with airspace?

Appreciate your response.
Flew Lagos to Paris earlier this month, and the avoid Nigerien airspace, so no need to be concerned.

Hello,

What is the ideal period for landing in Canada before school begins. i.e. School starts September 5, can I land in late June?

Can anyone point me to what the experience is like at the port of entry? i.e. what questions do they typically ask at Immigration.

Thanks,

Please kindly respond when online.
Thanks.
Hi, my plug there is not really sure again o. It looks like a new system is now in place that requires you to wait your turn, and nothing can really be expedited.

Thanks,

Oh
Do you have the name or info of the GD and OB/GYNE?
I can try to contact them and check them if they are available to seeing out of country patients
You can reach them on the website. I have no name or contact information. Send an email and hopefully you’d get a response.

Hello everyone,

Will I be able to get a 2 bedroom/2 bathroom for a family of five in Calgary ? The age range of my kids are from 4 to 8 years old.

I will be happy to get a reply here. Thank you
Yes you probably would. Only that some Landlord’s may be turned off by the family size especially if the kids are boys and girls. A three bedroom townhome is the ideal but 2bed is not impossible.

Yes you would.. Why wouldn't you? Housing in Calgary is also not so expensive. You should get at 850CAD upwards.
Please don’t mislead people o. $850 in Calgary? I laugh in interest rate and cost of living

Beware of scam o.

Ohh yeah true.. My bad. Rent is still cheap in Edmonton AB though.
That, 1300 is almost not enough to get a good 1 bed in BC sadly...
The way the rent just dey increase is scary!
You’re sure this is nit rental for a room in a 2bed house because nowhere in Edmonton can you find that price in 2023.

Hello

I am currently 31 weeks pregnant and will be traveling to Calgary at 35 weeks. I’ve already secured a visitors visa and accommodation.
I plan on delivering my baby in Calgary would like some help please.

Can anyone please suggest a good cheap GP or OB/GYNAE in Calgary area? I will be living specifically in the SE area.

I’ve read almost all the posts on the other thread but most of the info has been posted 5years for Calgary. There’s a new system there that has been established for birth tourists. Any idea please?
Has anyone experienced delivering in Rockyview or South Health Campus?

Help a sister out please 🙏

Also here’s a link to the maternity clinic we were assigned before delivery. It’s called South Health Maternity and Wellness. Contact them

I don’t know how this works but if you’re coming to Calgary specifically for giving birth, then shouldn’t you have pre-arranged a doctor to consult with? It’s a general doctor that typically gives you that referral to an OBYGYN, I don’t think you can self-refer to a specialist.

We had our baby at South Health Campus and it went well. The have a dedicated neonatal wing separate from other parts of the gigantic hospital. We got a private room which can house the mother and a family member. Everything functioned as it should. If you’re going to be in the SE (again depending on where you are in the SE) then SHC is the best location.

All the best.

Thanks so much for bringing this up again and I have been thinking of the best way to structure things.

For funding, my plan is to submit
my 2022 T4 showing how much I earned,
recent paystubs and
a letter from my employer confirming my employment.
Also statement of account for around $10k sitting in an investment account

My other sibling will also be sponsoring on terms similar to the above.

Our combined income in around $125k so there's no doubt that we will be able to cover her cost. In my draft letter of explanation, I've mentioned that her tuition for the first year ($15k) is less than 20% of our annual income.

I also mentioned that we both own homes where my sister will be staying (just to show that living expense is not a problem) and we've jointly contributed to pay the tuition deposit of $1750.

Is this outline convincing to show proof of funds or should we be doing something more?

I’m wary of sending money to her Naira account because of the unpredictable exchange rate and can’t pay the next tranche of the tuition, as it’s not due until August.

Thank you.
Happy to report that my sister's application was approved
Submission date: February 6

We may not agree on this but a petroleum engineer who trained himself/herself in Nigeria should not be deterred from seeking similar roles in Canada. When I got the PR and was asked when I was moving my answer was consistent "I want to get a software engineering job before I move so I wont have to spend my savings". I got a similar response from people based in Canada about how I have to get canadian experience first and how recruiters won't even consider me when I'm outside canada. The main point is that I believed it was possible and worked towards it before luck shined...
Too much information...

If money is not an issue, you can pay her complete tuition fee and do a GIC for her living expenses.

OR
Pay her tuition fee
Send money to her account with a gift deed

OR
Pay her tuition fee
And use your account to sponsor her. Having a relative in Canada does not mean the application will be refused. So, if she can demonstrate ties in Nigeria, the latter will not be an issue. You can refer to my response below to @jjohndoe83 regarding ties, as his situation is similar to yours.

Don’t pay too much attention to proof of funds and forget other aspects of the application.

"The blacks are always hostile"

This is absolutely false. Not only have you been in Canada for a short while, you've not met enough black people to make this very general statement. In fact, na oyinbo get crazy and wierd behaviour pass.

Make una no dey fall for this mentality that "black people are this, black people are that" because when the chips are down, you'll always find your way back to the people that look like you.

Hello people.

Question:
I need your various inputs on what to watch out for and what to do in order to put in a successful student’s visa application come January 2023.

Context:

My sister has been admitted to a designated learning institution in Calgary (SAIT) to study for a 2 year legal assistant/paralegal diploma to begin in September 2023. We have paid the tuition deposit and have a letter from the school already.

She has 2 siblings (my sister and I) who are permanent residents of Canada. We will be sponsoring her application, fees and every associated cost. She will be living with one of us and commuting to school as we both own homes in the Calgary area.

Will our proof of income, tax filings, pay slips, etc be sufficient to show that we can foot the bill? I don’t doubt that we can foot the bill.

My greatest concern is showing home ties. Let’s face it nobody is really planning to go back to Nigeria but since IRCC prefers lies, so be it. How do we do this? Considering that she’s a student and doesn’t have a formal job to return to after her studies (she does run a fashion outfit where she makes clothes but it’s largely informal and nothing registered), our parents are late and we have only one other siblings left in Nigeria (who is also going’s to be applying for PR soon).

Also, we did one “try your luck” sibling sponsorship application that is still being processed. How do we navigate this as well.

She is currently in 400L in uni., (whether she finishes the program or not is not a big deal). The prolonged ASUU strike caused us to start exploring this option. Is this something we should be disclosing on the application or just keep quiet about it since she would not have completed the degree at the time of application.

I’m looking for tips on what to include and not include in the application to make it a success.
