I have been away from here for the most part since my last post about SE list, just because I don't have much to contribute when it's not relating to our players. Even if I did, it would have been inundated with UEFA/Europa related posts. That said, I don't get why andrew was banned. You mean he attacked a mod literally? Edopesin: |

Balogun or Ajayi: Who should worry Omeruo more? Seye Omidiora | Goal Correspondent | Last updated 2 hours ago https://images.daznservices.com/di/library/GOAL/a9/8e/kenneth-omeruoleganes_zg2p8oorkvnr137yg7tfsb6s6.jpg? Kenneth Omeruo_Leganes Getty images The ex-Chelsea man could fall further down the pecking order in Gernot Rohr's team after the improvement of his direct competitors in the last year A whole lot can change in 12 months, something Kenneth Omeruo will know a thing or two about following Leganes’ relegation from La Liga. For the former Chelsea defender, 2018/19 was a really good year with Lega, where he thrived initially on loan for Mauricio Pellegrino’s side to end the campaign in 13th as arguably the team’s best central defender. He then rode the wave of that rosy season in the Spanish top flight to be one of Gernot Rohr’s leading men at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt. While Odion Ighalo got most of the rave reviews for ending top scorer at the continental showpiece, Omeruo was arguably the Super Eagles’ best performer and certainly their most influential defender as they finished third. However, the emergence of Semi Ajayi after the Afcon saw the Kaduna-born defender surprisingly lose his place at the heart of the Nigeria defence alongside captain William Troost-Ekong. This could have turned out differently had work permit issues in Spain not caused Omeruo to pull out of September’s friendly vs Ukraine in Dnipro. Ajayi deputised for the ex-Blue against Andriy Shevchenko’s side and has started every game for the West African nation since. While persisting with the towering defender at centre-back seemed odd initially, Ajayi’s steady improvement with West Bromwich Albion in 19/20 was striking. Having joined Slaven Bilic’s team from relegated Rotherham United, the former Arsenal defender was largely consistent during a gruelling Championship campaign that culminated in automatic promotion on the final day. Up until football’s suspension, it seemed like the West Bromwich man was the only competition for Omeruo, but Leon Balogun’s resurgence since the turn of the year has seen him roll back the years to show the sort of form that saw him form half of the ‘Oyibo Wall’ in the second half of the 2010s. After a largely frustrating time at Brighton & Hove Albion, the 32-year-old was part of the Wigan Athletic group that rallied late on in the Championship season trying to beat the drop after entering administration. Even though the Latics couldn’t retain their second-tier status, the former Mainz centre-back seemed back to his very best following a run of games. Given he endured a torrid time in Nigeria’s 2-0 Afcon defeat by Madagascar just over a year ago, where he was culpable in the concession of the first, Balogun’s short spell and early-season form at Rangers bodes well if the goal is to push for a Super Eagles return. Meanwhile, Omeruo’s end to the season was a bit of a mixed bag. His performances were decent-to-good but Leganes’ poor run of results meant satisfactory individual performances never really translated into points for the Cucumber Growers. After a tough start to the season, the 26-year-old nearly returned to his 18/19 form and was playing well till injury struck post-lockdown. What made this period stand out was how that injury, as well as Chidozie Awaziem’s struggles at the time, saw Javier Aguirre stumble on a central defensive trio that kept Omeruo out of the side till the end of the season. As far as a place in Rohr’s Nigeria is concerned, the triumvirate are locked in a three-way battle to partner the nation’s captain Troost-Ekong. Ajayi, 26, is probably the bigger threat to the former Chelsea defender because he seemed to be in favour just before a positive season at the Hawthorns and could well be the likelier to challenge Omeruo. The Albion defender also has age and durability on his side, whereas Balogun, 32, won’t be a mainstay in the Super Eagles selection even if he regains his place. Injuries have also been a bugbear for the former Brighton defender whose resurgence has nonetheless been pleasing to see. A keen eye will be kept on Ajayi at West Bromwich at the start of next season’s Premier League, assessing the performances of the Nigeria defender to evaluate his progress at the top level. Balogun, for his part, has been quick out of the blocks for Steven Gerrard’s Rangers side and looks to have picked up where he left off with Wigan. He wasn’t only a defensive colossus on debut vs Aberdeen, he then played even better in Sunday’s victory over St Mirren. Omeruo’s performances haven’t been bad, rather the raised standard, increased competition from Ajayi and resurgence of Balogun at various points in the last 12 months are putting his place in the side in danger. Dropping further down the pecking order won’t be ideal, especially after that 18/19 season and dominant Afcon campaign, still, the turnaround in the ex-Chelsea centre-back’s fortunes since isn’t any less notable. |
If he were a Nigerian international with the stats he had he would be called world class here. That said, I don’t see him as one of the best in the world. But among the best young strikers, nobody can prove he is not. Make we talk true JayromWrites: |
Oga sorry I mistakenly didn’t add the “young” as I was only modifying what komekn had said. So to correct my mistake he is undoubtedly one of the best young strikers in the world. I’m saying this without any iota of sentiments. JayromWrites: |
He is definitely, not probably, ONE OF THE BEST strikers in the world. But he is an English international and AS IT STANDS RIGHT NOW, we are not missing him in SE komekn: |

Bonfrere was widely quoted by the Nigerian media of having said in an interview with Lagos-based sports radio station, Brila FM in April, that his former boss sold Nigeria’s 1994 FIFA World Cup Second Round match against Italy. Bonfrere was also quoted as having accused Westerhof of selling the match for $100,000. The court, Completesports.com learnt will deliver judgment on the case next week. “The allegation against me by Bonfrere is not true. He just wanted to tarnish my image and I hope the court will give the right verdict,” Westerhof told Completesports.com during an exclusive chat. “He claimed he was misquoted in the interview, but knowing him very well, I can’t actually believe that. He has a mission to destroy my image in Nigeria.” |
Corbo: "Osimhen has a 5.5 technique, but he will not end up like Lozano: I'll explain the reason" The journalist and columnist of the newspaper La Repubblica, Antonio Corbo, expressed some considerations on the Neapolitan club. Editorial board 5 AUG 2020 HOURS 18:40 Antonio Corbo has released some statements to the microphones of the radio program 'Marte Sport Live', a broadcast of in-depth analysis on the hot topics in the Neapolitan house related to the transfer market - and not only - broadcast daily on Radio Marte frequencies . These are his considerations entrusted to the Campania broadcaster: " Can Victor Osimhen end up like Hirving Lozano? No, because he has 5.5-6 of individual technique, but he has great physicality combined with speed and progression, unlike the Mexican". Corbo then added: "Yes , this boy fits in well and is given exceptional guidance by the coach, with a coach who also gives him changes of pace and the right turns, then you will see that he will become a formidable counter-attacker. Like all young players, he has important potential, but we have to see how he evolves in his career ", concluded the editorialist of the newspaper ' La Repubblica', at the end of his radio intervention today. The Michael Olise to Leeds rumor Exclusive: Leeds submitting offer for French midfielder By Wayne Veysey -4th August 2020 at 12:00pm118 Leeds United have set their sights on signing another Reading midfielder this summer in Michael Olise, Football Insider understands. The Whites are already in the race for the Royals star’s teammate John Swift, but face strong competition from Sheffield United. A Leeds source has told Football Insider that France youth international Olise is also firmly on their radar as they line up a move. Victor Orta and his recruitment team have been tracking the highly rated 18-year-old for some time and are ready to offer him the chance to move up to the Premier League. Leeds are keen to exploit the Reading cash crisis following the pandemic as they work on two potential deals. As revealed by Football Insider at the start of last month, Chris Wilder’s side have already tabled a bid for Swift of between £3-5million after his stellar campaign in midfield for the side who finished 14th in the Championship. Olise is certainly one of Reading’s prize assets and he is attracting interest from the elite after graduating from their youth team to establish himself in the senior side. The central midfielder, who can also play in attacking midfield, started 13 of their league matches this season and was a regular for the final third of the campaign. Capped by France at Under-18 level, he has how accumulated 27 first-team appearances for Reading. Olise is contracted to the second-tier outfit until the summer of 2022. |

Simy speaking to ESPN "I'm so happy that Victor is coming in. It is such a big team and an important and difficult league, if not the number one tactical and defensive league in the world," said Nwankwo. "You know, it is one thing watching from the outside, another thing is actually playing from the inside. But I'm glad Victor is coming into a team that plays football and it will be very, very important for him. "He will definitely grow. He will never be the same player again -- that I can assure you. He will grow as a person, he will grow as a player, he will grow because Napoli is a really good team -- and the league, too." "We will score more goals, united we stand. He will do it for Napoli and I will do it for Crotone," "Personally, I don't set goals. The only thing I set out for myself at the start of the season every year is just to do better than I did last time. So that means that next year will be more difficult for me because now I have to do better than I did this year." "I'm glad now we're growing, when I came only Joel was here, with Orji Okonkwo also in Bologna, but not playing so much. Then we had a couple of lads in the Serie B. But now we are growing and I'm looking forward to meeting all the guys next year in the Serie A," said Nwankwo. "That will bring in more Nigerian viewers back to the league. Not just only about the Juventus and Inter Milan games, but now at least you will watch every game because you have your guys representing you everywhere. "And it's also good to have the guys around. Once in a while for sure we will meet up. After games, during games, we can talk. We can also help each other one way or the other. I think it's a good thing and I hope more guys come in as a well." |
