Thank you. I won't blame Akpeyi for that goal. But Akpeyi na on and off. He is not reliable.
BascoVanVeli: Mehn Enyeama's own was worse oh. I think Yakubu's miss kind of excused him though. Plus he is Vincent freaking Enyeama and his quality was never in doubt.
even if we take 4th place is an achievement considering we've not been to two nations cup prior to now.
Taliban: Few more hours to the greatest losers final game. Carthage Eagles vs Super Eagles. Which of the Eagles will get de-winged? All roads leas to thensure epic encounter. Tunisia are not taking the game lightly and may stop at nothing to ensure they defeat Nigeria and win the coveted beautiful bronze medal.
Any feelers from our camp or insight into tomorrow's lineup. Will Osihmen show the coach what he has missed, would Ogu produce another own goal assist?
Waiting earnestly for the game tomorrow so Nigerians could be proud of their team again.
People will be saying he should not be fired and he should remain forever as if he himself cannot resign if he wants .. if he resign nko, we go beg am abi?
Daninya111: Coach Rohr will speak about his future with the S. E after our 3rd place match tomorrow.
Assistant coach to late Stephen Keshi at the 2013 Afcon, Sylvan us Okpala says he is available for selection as coach of the super eagles.
We will be putting on our green jersey again tomorrow, should we expect another loss? Only time will tell.
If NFF is not hiring new assistants for Rohr then it’s a waste of time supporting the Eagles.
elyte89: Anyway pinnick has spoken,he said d NFF board will stick with rohr @least till Aug 2020,when his contract expires...so peeps, drop dis who will replace rohr or not
He barely kicked a ball before being hurt? Tell me about it.
BascoVanVeli: This is the problem when some of you guys hear new phrases you start using them anyhow. Which feelings dey here to catch? We are discussing football and you are talking about catching feelings for what?
Your reasons were baseless. You said he wasn't on form but he barely kicked a ball before being hurt so how do you know? If you don't think the player is good enough that means you don't like the player.
Rohr no be magician. If he do this one, e no work. He should have done that one. If he do that one, e no work. Dem go say he should have done this one. People will be recommending average players like say the players for score long range free kick.
Icon4s: Rohr should have...Rohr could have...why didn't Rohr start....
I do not dislike the player either. My reasons are still valid. Are u the one saying the moniker was crazy? Shehu won’t have made any impact in that match. Period. Stop catching feelings
BascoVanVeli: Stop changing my words I said you don't like the player nothing was mentioned about hate. Nobody asked you to make a call for anybody. Someone else made the call and you were acting like the person was crazy.
Shehu has had more good games than bad. In fact I can't name a bad game he has had apart from maybe the Argentina friendly. All you people said "Shehu never goes forward but Awaziem played basically the same way and you are like what a great player so disciplined.
Exactly. we needed a player that could make an impact, not just another player playing in his natural position.
edi287: I mean I can understand the logic in bringing Shehu as a CM to free Etebo but Shehu isn't much of a controller and that is what we needed...not just an additional CM.
CAF disown Pinnick, NFF on $565,473 spent on congress by Samm Audu July 14, 2019 6:48 pm
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) have distanced themselves from a claim by the Amaju Pinnick-led Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) that they spent $565,473 ( more than 198 million Naira) to attend a CAF congress in 2015.
This position was in response to an inquiry by the Nigerian anti-corruption agency SPIP, which sought to know if CAF were aware of such expenditure.
The NFF claimed they spent a whopping $565,473 to be part of the CAF Congress in 2015 when facts later emerged that the Nigerian delegation received their flight tickets and their boarding and other expenses were borne by the continental football ruling body.
However, in a letter dated June 30, 2019, and signed by general secretary Mouad Hajji, CAF clearly told SPIP they did not receive the said amount from the NFF.
CAF also made it clear that they take up the expenses of member-associations to their official events like the congress.
“1. Referring to the financial report, it appears that CAF did not receive any payment from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
“2. The participation of all the National Associations in the Congress is free and requires no contribution from the latter to the holding of General Assemblies and these expenses by CAF for all the representatives of the participating federations of these congresses.
“In conclusion, I confirm that no contribution from the NFF has been received by CAF.”
CAF further said they will be available to the anti-corruption agency should they need any more clarifications.
The anti-corruption agency has brought a 17-count charge against Pinnick and four other top NFF officials ranging from embezzlement and corruption to failure to declare their assets.
The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has since ordered the arrest of the officials and the matter has been adjourned till September 26.
lol...as if Iwobi was in the AM position when he laid that brilliant pass for Chukwueze against SA. That's the kind of pass we demand from our wingers all the time.
edi287: He wasn't disastrous and even at that he would be able to swap position with Etebo further forward. Musa can play on the right if he's there solely for making runs into the box instead of this pseudo playmaking nonsense he's been trying to do lately.
Why would I hate the player? I've never been impressed with Shehu. Why should I make a call for a player of that caliber? Tell me how many games Shehu has played well for us. Players do drift to other positions during game time, so there is simply no excuse.
BascoVanVeli: You don't like Shehu simple and plain. What kind of dirty form are you claiming from a guy who barely played one half?
MetalJigsaw: Rohr should have switched to 2- 2- 6 formation and move ighalo to the goalpost and move akpeyi forward to confuse the Algerian defenders. nonsense
Someone who is in the contention for the top scorer in this AFCON should retire. Ighalo is not one of my fav players but lets call a spade a spade. He remains relevant.
Danielnino00: I'm gonna take the defeat in good faith...Algeria were obviously the better team from the blast of the whistle.. they had studied us very well and devised a plan to stop us and it worked..Kudos to them.. Our players gave tried but such things happen in football.. you can't win every time .
But I think after the AFCON, the following players need to join Mikel in retirement... - Ighalo
- Ogu
- Akpeyi..
- Ezenwa
Musa and Balogun should take a back seat in the team too.. As for Ekong he needs serious competition.. Even Omeruo..
If we are serious about building a better team for the future, then we need to let go of some old players .the Dutch did it and now their football is back on track... we can do it too.. The believe some people on this thread have that we don't have good players is a lie!! We have a lot of good players out there...talented players who are doing well at their clubs..both home and foreign born... they just need to be integrated into the team slowly.. We have limited time to start preparing for 2021 AFCONQ and Qatar 2022
As for Rohr, I can't totally support the calls to sack him now cus I tells can't think of any capable replacement available... the man has tried for put football no doubt but his conservative style is holding this team back...Poor tactical decisions and his inability to make daring changes into the team... If a capable replacement is available he should please go.. Nobody knew his when he was coaching Niger republic back then... the national team has boosted his CV
The team hasn't improved much. You are right on that. But we still got to the SF. That's Rohr's only saving grace.
AIG07: *smiles* I knew we had a problem when folks started celebrating AFCON QUALIFICATION as if we are some sort of Burundi, Madagascar, or Somalia. Our absence in the last two editions has really damaged people's psyche.
Rohr is Average @ best... No doubt about that. His team reflects everything about him. Rigid, timid,...we've seen the best of him and that was in 2017 during world cup qualifiers. After then, he has shown us a limp Eagle, uncoordinated side, tactless team.,etc.
Still someone somewhere wants him to stay. The team hasn't improved one bit since 2017.
1 The Algerians were/are the better team. We underrated them here and i am envious at how much they have improved from 2016 till now. We stand to gain if we learn from them.
2 The Goal keeping department needs serious overhaul. I don't blame the GKs..really I don't. They won't feature if they don't keep getting call-ups. We need to scout for 3 quality keepers because none of our current 3 inspire confidence
3 Rohr tried his best. Our team has not made it to the AFCON in 6 years. We got so far by a mix of ingenuity, grit and luck. Rohr needs a really good tactical assistant (or technical assistant).
4 Our two central midfielders should be applauded for giving a good fight in this match and in the entire tourney. You can't give what you don't have. Neither Ndidi nor Etebo are creative midfielders/playmakers. So, it shouldn't come as a surprise that we couldn't create enough chances. Tackling is important but doesn't score goals. Excellent passing and ingenuity does.
5 We need to scout for more consistent strikers. Ighalo is so inconsistent, it can be annoying. Same goes a good creative central midfielder(s). One wonders the idea behind taking four midfielders to a major tourney without any marshal among them.
6 Mikel should honorably bow out. Knowing Rohr, Mikel would keep getting call-ups if he doesn't retire. Rohr is very conservative and prefers to stick to known players. This can backfire.
7 Osimhen and Onyekuru need to step up. If Rohr kept on benching them for almost the entire duration of the tournament, there must be good reason. Mbappe is in their age grade and has done wonders that belie his age. They should aim for such. Had they been reliable, I am sure Rohr would have no qualms subbing out a Misfiring Ighalo.
8 Ogu should also just retire. If he hardly features in the entire tourney even when we were quite shorthanded, I wonder at his importance to this team. I also wonder at what unique footballing attribute he possesses that keeps earning him invites.
9 Chukwueze is one thing we can take away from this tourney. He is still very young and can improve if he keeps his head down and doesn't let praises get to his head (like nacho, success). If any new club cannot guarantee him first team soccer, he should remain at Villareal and improve.
10 A moniker commented at the inconsistency of our players. This much is true though I would single out Ndidi and Etebo as our only consistent players throughout this AFCON. Our players may need counselling. Consistency is what sets apart ancestors from men from boys in football If you can't be consistent, then you may stagnate your career. You get paid big bucks for showing up at every game, no matter how many games you have to play. They need to groom themselves to be consistent.
11 Our defence isn't as solid as we are made to believe. We conceded in every match right from the second round. I thought Rohr was a good defensive coach? Two or more good defensive additions won't be bad. Balogun should find a new club and bench warmers shouldn't be tolerated.
All in All, we gave our best and fought hard but at the end of the day, the best team won. Up Super Eagles. We live to fight another day
He played on the wing as well in this AFCON. If Mikel was on point Iwobi for no smell that AM
BascoVanVeli: Forget that one. For most his career he has been a midfielder. If that's the case Iwobi should be on the wings since he has played like 30 consecutive matches for his club on the wings.
That's all we need to do. Get more tactical minds in. Then keep searching for more players for reinforcement. We must not stop at the midfield and GK alone.
lexyman: Our technical department need to be reinforced , get a better goal keep ...scout more midfielders we re good to go
