If Aneke tears up the Championship, he will definitely get a call up. That's what Tega Abraham did to get attention.
modified He is not old. How old was Ighalo when he was tearing up the championship?
charlesemeka85: Oga aneke I doubt will get a call up. He is 26 already and hv been a veteran in the lower leagues of English football. He have to do something extraordinary to get a call up.
Rohr who believes in younger talents will instead prefer giving the likes of Eze and ejaria a chance than turning to a 26 year old league 2 veteran
oga, these are the issues I am looking at. 1. Will they potentially bring something new to the team, considering the void we have in the team position-wise? 2. Will they potentially bring something new to the team, considering their playing style? 3. have they been tested at a higher level recently? Performance-wise how do they fare, even if na just one match or preseason.
Aribo ticks all the boxes above. A player, to me doesn't get automatic rating only just because he is in a higher league. He still has to perform in that league, to get a rating. The season is just about to start, and the only thing expected of a forward is to score goals. Let us wait and see about Aneke. For Aribo, he is already getting rave reviews in RAngers. Although it is still too early, I can recognize that from his style of play, he could prove a good option. But we have players like Ajayi who is ahead of him. But I consider Ajayi already in the SE set up.
What Chuks was in League two and League one is irrelevant to me. Until he performs as a striker in the championship, there is no talk of present continues performance.
komekn: Everything should be based on continous consistent top quality performances in thier respective in and league.
By the way you, Eéeeeeee be like sai you contradict yourself. In saying that Aribo is ready for the SE and not Chuks
Because you said the Chuks has not been tested at a higher level implying that Aribo has.
Chuks was the most outstanding player in league one two seasons ago before MK Dons got relegated check his stats goals and assists. MK Dons refused to sell him blatantly after several firm offers from Championship clubs.
He was also the most outstanding player in league two.
He is now in the Championship and Aribo is in a much lower league. Rangers as a club is on league one level England.
modified Ozornwafor. We'll see what his future brings
ChrisKels: Staying put at Gala(first team) . Already getting kudos from the Gala faithfuls for his displays so far in the preseason. One to keep an eye on.
By end product, the context here is crosses. I think most of our wingers in the current SE struggle with the same thing. The good thing is Chukwueze still has room to grow.
Aribo is like Ndidi on the left, a little more skilfull but has an eye for goal. That's something SE needs. Can Chuks do what he is doing at a higher level currently? That's left to be seen.
Modified Aribo can deputize Ndidi. At least he can bring something different, or maybe more, especially when we are chasing the game.
komekn: Tell me one players that can do what Chuks does in our current set of players.
Aribo plays almost like the old fashioned enforcer he is similar to Ndidi but drives forward more like Gerard with a decent shot.
Enyeama has already retired. But I think will do us some good if we have him in the fold just to help with the young keepers, Okoye, Alampasu, Uzoho, and Nwokolor
Icon4s: For me it should be Uzoho, Okoye and Alampasu/any of the U23 goalies going forward. This trio can cope with the challenges of playing Benin, Sierra Leone and Lesotho. We need to start giving them the game time/ experience and confidence.
Any player that we don't think can make the next AFCON and WC IMO should be dropped now.
The strategy should be to use the 2021 AFCON qualifiers, 2022 WC qualifiers and 2021 AFCON to build a very formidable team for the 2022 WC. We should also win enough matches to boost our FIFA ranking so as to stand a chance of being placed in a higher seeded pot and by extension a relatively easy group.
No excuses for Rohr going forward. At least a Quarter Final for 2022WC and 2021 AFCON trophy should be the next yardstick for measurement for him.
He already said it na. He just put the videos to show their style of play.
Icon4s: Watching these players' YouTube review is good. But it doesn't tell the whole story.
We have seen countless players in the past flop despite having eye poping video reviews.
There was a time on this thread when peeps would rate players as "our best defender", "our best striker" or "our best Midfielder" based solely on 5mins video reviews. Now we know better.
There will definitely be injection of new bloods into the Super Eagles but this cannot be solely based on these 3-5mins video reviews.
"My aim is to improve all the departments in the team. The most important ones are the goalkeeper and then the goal scorer, they are already two challenges now, we've been working on it for a long time now,"
"We knew the problem in the goalkeeping department before the AFCON, and that it could be a big problem at the AFCON.So, the bronze medal is really an achievement and we could have even gotten to the final. When you go to the history of winners of AFCON, you must be good in this position, you must be very good and I think we can be.
"So, for the goalkeeper position, we have MadukaOkoye, who plays for Dusseldorf; he will be a good one (keeper), I think."
Belgium Jupiler League, Genk 2 – 1 Kortrijk: 3 Nigeria stars fail to shine by Imhons Erons July 27, 2019 in News, Nigeria
The Belgium Jupiler League kicked off on Day 1 as RC Genk came from behind to snatch victory from the jaws of a stubborn Kortrijk side.
Abdul Ajagun and Imoh Ezekiel did their best but it was not enough to prevent visiting Kortrijk from suffering their first loss of the season to Genk who had Stephen Odey on the bench for the entire duration of the match.
Former Nigeria U-20 attacking midfielder, Ajagun started for the visitors as Kortrijk enjoyed a brilliant start, netting the game’s opener through Julien De Sart within the first quarter of an hour.
But the champions quickly wrestled the initiative from Kortrijk and pressed the away side back into their own half of the field.
Yves Vanderhaegbe’s men went into the break with the lead but Racing Genk were clearly the better side and it appeared a matter of when and not if the equalizer would arrive.
It came just five minutes after the restart with new signing Benjamin Nygren putting the finishing touch to a sweet attacking move. Debut goals are always a beautiful thing.
Kortrijk were stunned and sought to recover. First, Abdul Ajagun was withdrawn for Elohim Rolland in the 67th minute. A few minutes later Vanderhaegbe sent in Imoh Ezekiel to replace Ilombe Mboyo.
But it was the changes made by Genk’s coach, Felice Mazzu that would determine the outcome of the game.
Goalscorer Benjamin Nygren made way for Ianis Hagi with 15 minutes of regulation time left on the clock.
And within two minutes of being on the field, Ianis, son of Romania great Gheorghie Hagi, grabbed the winner with his first touch. He was also making his debut for the Belgian champions.
Stephen Odey will look to make his own debut when Genk line up next match. The Nigerian youngster was signed from FC Zurich last month after scoring 16 goals in all competitions for the Swiss team during his two-year stay.
Ebere Eze I don't think Eze is an upgrade of Iwobi. Iwobi has played in a higher level consistently and well tested. That begs the next question, will he bring something different to the team? I don't think so.
Chuks Aneke Calm and confident forward. Also very good with set pieces. However, we need to see him against tougher opposition to see if he can play at a high level at this time.
Josh Onomah From what I've seen so far, I wouldn't recommend him to SE yet.
Joe Aribo I think this is the only player who seems he can bring something that is lacking in the current SE. He is still developing, but he will definitely add something to the team.
komekn: I am not an advocate of video clips as the main tool to asses players it is too easily contrived and manipulated to make players look better than they actually are. When i submit video clips i only submit 5-7 minute clips of individual games not merge 5/6 games into one clip to make you look like Neymar when you are more like Phil Neville.
Aribo is tough battling midfielder who has fought his way against all odds to get to where he is, he hant been schooled in the technical niceties of the game but he is a warrior and he is somewhat similar to Gerrard in his style of play. Now that's the pertinent phrase STYLE OF PLAY.
So i am going to put three Youtube videos of these 4 players Aribo, Eze, Onomah, and Chuks which gives a clear indication of thier STYLE OF PLAY then you can answer the question which most suites the 9ja way or if you like historical organisation delivery ethos of the SE.
The choice is your, Akpoo, Amala, Starch or Pounded Yam
Ovie does not need to bulk up AT ALL he is deceptively strong although he doesn't really like the physical side of football he is more intelligent and technical with his football.
edi287: Aribo is quite good on the ball. He's a traditional two way b2b mid. You are right about Chuks. I wouldn't mind seeing him in our Olympics team.
charlesemeka85: SV Eintracht Trier 05 wonderkid Armin Olayo has snubbed the opportunity to represent Germany and wants to pursue an international career with Nigeria, allnigeriasoccer.com has been informed.
Olayo was included in the Germany U16 squad for a winter training camp in Spain in February and was named on the standby list for a DFB screening tournament in Duisburg in May 2019.
The Nigeria Football Federation did not have to coerce him before he opted to play for Nigeria's youth teams and he already has a Nigerian passport ahead of a possible trip to Nigeria to join the Golden Eaglets.
The goalkeeper is on the radar of the Nigeria U17 coaches who are searching for players to beef up the squad before the resumption of camping for the U17 World Cup.
Olayo is a star in the making; he has the ability to read games, has good passing skills and positional awareness, and excellent reflexes.
In recent times, Nigeria youth teams have embraced dual-eligible players, with Adrian Akande and Joseph Oluwabusola making the roster for the U17 AFCON, while Tom Dele-Bashiru and Nnamdi Ofoborh played for the Flying Eagles at the 2019 FIFA U20 World Cup.
@bolded, typical Rohr yarns. He for add "with our very young team"
MetalJigsaw: Gernor Rohr Speaks On Dumping Super Eagles For Morocco
Jul 23, 2019
Super Eagles Head coach, Gernot Rohr, has noted that he is still under contract with the Nigeria Football Federation and therefore, dismissed the speculations linking him with Morocco and Gabon.
The Morocco national team is looking for a new coach after the Atlas Lions handler, Herve Renard failed to guide them past the second round of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Super Eagles Coach denied the report that he had made contact with the Royal Moroccan Football Federation.
Rohr during an interview with Sportinglife.ng said, “Though I’ve heard the rumours that Morocco wanted me, the truth is that nobody has contacted me about any job; I also heard that people in Gabon are also thinking about me”.
“But I cannot even negotiate with another country because I still have a binding contract with Nigeria.”
“Of course, it is an honour to be mentioned than for no country to want you at all but I’m still under contract. I still have a one year contract with Nigeria.”
“I think everybody saw the good job being done here in Nigeria whereby we came from being number 11 to become number three in Africa.”
somehow: Let's flip the coin. If it was a Nigerian coach that got all the resources + salary, free hand, friendlies (No Nigerian coach has ever enjoyed this) that got us this result, would those calling for Rohr's retention want that coach to stay?
Amodu Shuaibu achieved more than Rohr with less than half of what Rohr was given
Keshi achieved more than what Rohr achieved with half of what Rohr got
Yet we still want to waste $1m on a 66yrs old foreigner. Nigeria prefers to train an old foreigner on the job while still paying him the salary of a professional coach.
Our approach as Nigerians in football development has not been good enough. But the context here has to do with the passion and the focus our Government gives to football to the detriment of other sports for many years now. Add to that you have a population who is very passionate about football. And that Many kids are crazy about football growing up. Have we been scouting well, or doing the right thing when it comes to grassroots development? That’s another matter. But why make a big deal over a bronze medal finish? Look at our history in the AFCON. If we employ foreign coiners just to give us bronze at AFCON, it’s a stupid target. It’s something our Indigenous coaches can achieve easily. Getting to the semi final has been normal to us. Failing to qualify for two AFCONs was due to Adminiatrative issues, but many here are making it seem Rohr brought us from darkness into light and are celebrating like we are Ghanaians that just won the AFCON after so many years.
“Use your HQ”
wayodude: We should be the Brazil of Africa? Why? Because of our out of control population explosion? Our population domination in Africa doesn't bestow football development rights.
The fine line between confidence and arrogance has been crisscrossed here too many times for my last liking and I am a full Nigerian. Imagine then how that comes across to a neutral and then a rival.
Why do we rate ourselves so highly it has now become ridiculous?
How many Nigerian players have ever won the African player of the year award and when was the last time a Nigerian won it?
Of the 15 times we have played in AFCON semifinals we have lost 8, that is more than half!!
Of the 7 times we have played in AFCON finals was have lost 4, again that is more than half!
Can anyone who isn't deluded claim we had the best squad at this last AFCON bar none? At best we had one of the best squads and the results achieved mirror that fact.
We failed to qualify for 3 of the last 5 AFCONs (we have 40% attendance at the competition since the turn of the decade). There are multiple reasons for this, including player quality and coaching. Regardless of NFF infighting we should be participating without fail, we should be Brazil of Africa remember?
I agree we are not all fans of Rohr's methods. I have been appalled at times with the way he sets up his teams. Examples such as at Wembley in the first half and his selections against Seychelles in a dead rubber game. BUT....
...IF he leaves today either by sacking or resignation he IMO can leave with his head held high and I will agree he played a role in setting us up for future success. How we manage what he leaves behind will determine if we harness the potential he has laid down.
So far, he has done well. However I think he will be carrying out an inquest on I'd he genuinely thinks he can take the team higher than where it is now. If he thinks not, he will resign. This I am sure of.
DrLikita12: NNL playoffs actually held today (not the 24th as I had earlier read). Warri Wolves, Adamawa United, Jigawa Golden Stars and Akwa Starlets promoted. Shooting Stars lives to fight another day.
Enyimba stays poaching players...from Ebube Duru to Olisema, James Bala, Mbaoma, etc.
That’s the point I’ve been making for so long here
TheGoodJoe: A lot of the reasons why we did not qualify was because of NFF in house fighting. The fact remains an achievable bar was set and hitting it does not make it special.
Not qualifying for AFCON is abnormal for us. That’s not going to change our standards. We are Nigeria. A country of hundreds of million football fanatics. We should be the Brazil of Africa going by the money and interest we have put in the game for decades now. We must not lower our standards. Me, I’m not celebrating the bronze, all though anything short of a top 4 finish wold have been disappointing. I knew what Rohr could achieve with the talents at his disposal. He didn’t disappoint me, neither did he surprise me.
BascoVanVeli: A country has not made it to the tournament in 4 years and u are saying bronze isn't good enough. Does that even sound normal in your head? Abeg think what you want I am not wasting my time to discuss such.
“Eche pass. Eche Eche” The boy no gree e dey dribble oh. Are we going to witness another okocha sometime soon. This 10 year old is an unbelievable joggler.
German Tactician Says Super Eagles Defender Has Bright Prospect by Augustine July 21, 2019 in News, Nigeria
Super Eagles technical adviser, Gernot Rohr has commended the quality of Jamiu Collins at the just concluded Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
Collins featured prominently in games against Cameroon, South Africa, Algeria and Tunisia at the bi-annual tournament and displayed strong maturity despite being his debut.
However, the German tactician told Sport1 that Collins has a German mentality and has a future ahead of him.
“Very important. This is a player who is offensively and defensively very strong. His left foot is very valuable to us – in a team where there are hardly any left-footers.
”I followed all the great games with Paderborn and I was very happy for him and his colleagues for the promotion.
”Collins is a player with a German mentality: He is a tough, serious worker who also does extra sessions on days off and after practice. That is good for all of Africa. ”
“Collins had suffered a slight muscle injury in the final session before his first game against Burundi and had to rest for a few days.
”But then he needed to get back into the team. Although it is difficult to change a successful team
