If you have a company you have every right to questjon the rationale of how the MD was hired. The Super Eagles is our enterprise, and we demand the best we can possibly get based on the circumstance we are in

minfelix:
Hiring a Guardiola to give you and your likes a hope and high chance of qualifying because they are the ones that can handle such pressure and later failing to deliver…no b heart attack b that?
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 9:45pm On Jan 11, 2025
Chelle in WC qualification with Mali

For more insight see my modified post for the Mali qualification tables

omo the way you people are so robotic about this football eehn…this rigid mindset doesn’t work in football ooo…its not asif Chelle was just picked from the roadside to come coach SE.
Im sure many finished Keshi back then for including sunday mba and dropping some more illustrious to afcon 2013 sqaud…

Yes gambling makes you not robotic.

SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 9:26pm On Jan 11, 2025
I agree with him. Go for a coach that has faced similar presures and fared well. Still not a guarantee but a more calculated decision. And also have the long term in mind.

Modified
Chelle wasn't doing well with Mali in WC qualification.

See table. Chelle stats padding with minnows at AFCON qualifiers. Compare to WC qualifiers

elyte89:
I disagree on dis cos any coach we employ right now is a gamble even if u re guardiola ..what impact will guardiola make within three days of camping aside maybe d confidence …our qualification rest on d shoulders of our players if Dey truly want to qualify .Dey need to give deir all on the pitch

SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 9:23pm On Jan 11, 2025
The deed has already been done. We have to hope for a miracle and plan for a future that will see us surpass Morroco's feat at the WC.

minfelix:
capping capping capping everywhere.
hire Herve renard
hire Tom Sanfiet
hire Pep Guardiola
Hire Eric Chelle
Employ Sia Sia
if the goal and mindset is to qualify SE at all cost to world cup, then all amount to gambling…e no sure any coach..all of them will come and try their luck.
respect NFF decisions of who they chose to gamble with….at this point Grade A or Grade B or Grade C no matter in our March Crucial qualifiers….when situations has entered level of gamble or rushing, e no sure any coach again..anyone can come in and try his luck.
Emerse Far came in and luckily gambled his way to final beating all so called grades especially that Senegalese coach and our foreign grade A peseiro

He is proven by African standards.

Mod
That level should be our starting point.

Chelle stats padding with minnows at AFCON qualifiers. Compare to WC qualifiers

Odunayaw:
I agree If Herve is not a grade A coach then we'd need to have a lot of faith in whomever we decide to employ

SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 8:29pm On Jan 11, 2025
If we are truly patriotic and we belive our nation is a big nation at least in football then we should demand someone befitting. We can't watch and see other African nations employ proven coaches yet we say we can't afford it. Can we truly not afford proven coaches, put together a long term plan etc? Aren't we Nigeria?

They tell you they don't have money and we suck it in like a simp. Whereas people are sharing salary.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 8:26pm On Jan 11, 2025
Today, we need him as a solid option. Facts
M7even:
The point is we don't need him. Even when he actualizes his dreams to play for England, we wish him good luck.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 8:21pm On Jan 11, 2025
If we are goung to have a sustainable playing style it would take patience and a holistic plan
Odunayaw:
It is when the major is exhausted that we can then look on the minor. Love for handling SE and the PR towards it is secondary to ability and experience.

I appreciate that you confirm they are both blank states. If Chelle don't give us the cup then we can compare him to predecessors. That is fine. They've done it to everyone, he is not special.

On quality of play. Yes results matter but it is a worry that it seems that after they leave the team descends into disarray.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 8:16pm On Jan 11, 2025
Even Herve for example is not a Grade A coach. There are proven coaches that are not in the elite grade.

Odunayaw:
As far as NFF is not hiring Grade A coaches, the criteria will keep being subjective regardless of the name or country of the coach. Gaskiya

Even if it is EPL. I, as a Super Eagles fan wholeheartedly wishes him the best of his club career and hopeful desire to play for three lions

SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 7:08pm On Jan 11, 2025
My rationale for Saintfeit is simply his love for handling the Super Eagles which he has applied fir severally, and very likely his knowledge of our team that he must have heen following. I see there is a new PR attempt for Chelle that the Super Eagles has been deer to him since he was 12. May be true....

Back to Seinfeit, yes he is a blank slate as well, and he has not even managed teams at the level of the Mali national team but he has some experience with African national teams.

And if Chelle doesn't give us glory in the next AFCON, would we see it as a failure? I can see there is more expectation from him based on past AFCON. Let's not forget he is a young coach with limited experience. So we should keep our expectations realistic and be patient as he tracks his CV and hopefully achieves something new with us in the process.

On quality of play, we have seen that from some of our indigenous coaches. At the end of the day, it's the results that will matter

Odunayaw:
1. I don't condone rescue missions. So I cannot look at Chelle from that lens i.e WC qualification.
2. Since I'm not looking from that lens, then I am thinking of an improvement in the team.
3. Chelle belongs to the class of young coaches in Africa that I admire. Especially from the last AFCON. No one will can put him down either on experience or quality of play.

I am quite sure this is something close to your rationale for Saintfiet. No?

Wetin be your own why? Bcause several ive seen here get maggi

Odunayaw:
And we've not been saying why? The issue remains that some don't like our why.

Again, as far we are not getting Grade A proven winners opinions will remain subjective. Let no one gaslight anybody.

Thats saying things as it trully is. Most of what i see is PR stunts. If you support a specific candidate, say why but dont and sugar salt and all kind of spices.

I'm actually okay with Chelle if we are going to be patient with him.

Odunayaw:
Tom Saintfiet that Joebie for example, wants. Is it not a blank record?

Pedro Goncalves? Whom I like. Is it not a blank record? Is it not the same QF at Afcon?

JP's approach took us all the way to the finals, but i think the general outlook questioned his style considering the quality of players. No surprise he still hasnt landed a job. However, one thing common with both guys is that they fared poorly in WC qualification games

Yes but what really separates the two classes is one class was given ample time.

Mod
I hope we will be patient with Chelle if he fails at the next AFCON

Nomyth:
I'm indifferent about the Chelle guy but our fate is tied together so we hv no choice than to support him.

We've had unknown quantities deliver for the Super Eagles in time past.

Westerhof was an assistant coach with feyernord before been appointed the Eagles coach and he led Nigeria to her first world cup appearance and the first AFCON glory outside Nigeria. He is often touted as Nigeria's most successful coach.

Also, Jo Bonfrere was just a physical trainer to the Super Eagles but was appointed as the successor to Westerhof and he won us our only Olympic gold till date and a second place finish at AFCON.

Conversely, we've hired top coaches who flopped with the Eagles.

Thijs libreght qualified Holland for the 1990 world cup but was poor for Nigeria.

Bertis Voght won the Euros with Germany but was a disaster for Nigeria.

Lars Lagerback took Sweden to the world cup but was poor with Nigeria.

Nothing is cast in stones in football.

Welcome Mr Chelle.

I think he was trying to say they are some times not all the times, for instance when you are leading a stronger opposition by one goal.
in that case,It would be wiser to play more cautious than going all out

Lol like we have not seen our defenders fumble

Mind you, our defence is still suspect. What Peseiro did was having other other players help out defensively.

forgiveness:
This has to do with the quality of player and not tactical play.

Are you expecting Nigerian players to make this same error the Malin defenders did?
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 12:41am On Jan 09, 2025
If weak teams can frustrate you defensively, then you should also have that defensive style in your toolkit when you meet bigger opponents. Na that versatility we need for the long term.

minfelix:
Amen ooo, i feel he loses those die minutes matches against bigger opponents with greater football pedigree than mali…you cant be leading CIV,Gha,Cam,Egy with a 1-0 and expect them not to fight back and win you even if you are outplaying them…but trust me teams like Rwanda, zimbabwe…im sure he will dominate them from start to finish

I can't wait for March already. For me I think Chelle should be preocupied with scouting than being busy with CHAN. Of course unless he IS looking to infuse some home based players from CHAN

minfelix:
true tok sha i feel Chelle should work on that area of his game….locking things up at the back…
the man so believe in scoring more goals to kill you off thats why those games come back to hunt him…
Against SA at the afcon after that 1-0 baba no rest he was still pumping and forgetting his defense.
Against Saudi Arabia we played 2-2 with, when his boys scored the second goal it was canceled they still went ahead and finish off saudi with 2more goals emding in a 3-1…
days before afcon started they faced Gui bissau in a friendly thumping them a 6-2, while we struggled to beat them 1-0 at the afcon
