the truth is we've had games we outplayed our opponents or even had decent goals ruled out and we did not get the maximum points.. I think in football there is time to play conservative and play all attack especially when you know your opponents are better as in these two cases (according to you)

modified
I'm saying this coach needs to learn when to switch up play and be conservative. I think that's pretty a basic thing though i'm not a coach.
if you are going to be all out attack all the time, you will be met with situations like these.
minfelix:
this is just a replica of what happened at the afcon vs CIV, Mali played direct and full attacking football…same last minute defensive error cost them again in this game…mali played Ghana hands down…as expected you don’t expect Ghana to be having all round bad games back to back na…this was after their poor afcon outing i gues…Ghana and CIV is bigger than mali in football, but mali played them clean clean

Yes they are beatable.. I hope our custom will change with this new coach. The SE I know may beat Rwanda away and draw to Zimbabwe at home, or vice versa. Or maybe 2 draws grin
minfelix:
we played well away to Rwanda compared to the nonsense we played against them in uyo…in kigali, lookman was denied a clean goal to nail them to their cross and that was when qualifiers was still very hot..that rubbish we played in uyo no b am….they are beatable at home, Benin did it there, as for Zimbabwe those one can drag you to a scoreless draw match eehn..them and uganda are one of the mumulized teams i hate watching against super eagles…but we just need to do them small thing in uyo…even if na 1-0🤣

Far above average with our poor tacticians as a yardstick

zicky:
Bro his stats for Mali is far above average, can't think of when last our team had such stat even with the opposition (minions) we face.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 11:35pm On Jan 08, 2025
Over our next two games, I am expecting nothing more than 4 points.

minfelix:
shey make i predict march games?🤣🤣
Okay leggo
Rwa vs Nig (9ja to win)
Zim vs Ben (draw match)
SA vs Les (SA to win)

next match
Nig v Zim(9ja to win)
Ben v SA (Ben to draw)
Rwa v Les (draw match)

After March the group will look like this
SA 11pts
Nig 9pts
Ben 9pts
Rwa 8pts
Les 6pts
Zim 3pts
then we look up to september fixture next🤣🤣🤣
thats my simulation of prediction oo🙌🏻✍️✍️

I believe he will. We are basing his performance purely on AFCON qualifiers and AFCON performance. We love AFCON bragging rights..

@the bolded is the general mentality.

Napoleon55:
I think the majority of us will eventually come to support Chelle especially if he gets positive results from his first two WCQ matches.

I'm even more interested in him winning next AFCON even if he fails to secure WC ticket,
it was the previous coaches who put us in this precious situation.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 11:31pm On Jan 08, 2025
His stats for Mali specifically is average considering the opposition if we are to look at the results.

Outside Mali, his stars are poor

Mujtahida:
Hahaha hahaha hahaha Joebie see coach wey you don condemn, na im forgiveness dey salivate with thanksgiving say Mali sack am for us.

But then his stats are impressive. Make we no lie

One thing i noticed is that if NFF does not give him a free hand to pick his players and instill discipline the marriage wont end well.
Setaleonoz:
One thing I noticed about this our new coach in the last Afcon is that he is a no nonsense coach …I remember him removing Yves Bissouma from the starting eleven and still played well without him

depends on who you have been listening to.

Subzerooo:
I'm sure the conversation around Chelle would be different if he had a lighter shade of skin, I watched this man's Mali's side and they played one of the most beautiful football in Afcon incredibly unlucky to go out, the other white coaches we have been appointing have not had a push back such as this despite having next to nothing on their cv
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 7:56pm On Jan 08, 2025
I think CAF needs to be progressive with the eligibility requirement of players as regards CHAN participation.

How about allowing 3 slots for debutant players who do not meet the home based requirement. At least they should be based in Africa

The only positive I can take from Chelle's appointment is his determination to make a name for himself accepting a pay cut. This matches our desperation to qualify for the World Cup. He knows very well our biggest foes in the group -- South Africa, a team we must defeat also. Coupled with Rwanda having a new coach, it could tilt to our favor. The profiles in the Malian team he handled is quite different from ours. He has a very short time, but I am very skeptical about his tactical decisions in big moments. In reality he is quite inexperienced, but he will learn more at this new job, however it goes.

Well one thing that is easy for all of us to do is hope. But the fact is Chele's recird is poor.

Whuch kind mathematics u dey solve? Haha.
minfelix:
i really wish you will search oo,
as for AE, he is a coach i love from his 2006 days till this moment.. i will agree with you that AE is better…but comparing Chelle coaching progress at an extended afcon tournament of 24, then i will tell you Chelle has almost same winning progress ratio…

AE coached at an afcon tournament of 16 teams topped the group and qualified straight to quarterfinals, won the quarterfinal and straight to semifinals and lost.

Now same AE came back for a 24team afcon topped the group qualified to round 16 and got knocked out

Chelle played a 24 nation afcon, topped the group qualified for round 16, won and qualified for quarterfinal and lost…meaning if it were the former 16nation he would have easily breezed into the semifinals 😊🙌🏻

I don't even need to do my research. If I actually do, I would find at least 3. But even at the home front Chelle is not better than Egu.

so pls bro name one or two 3rd best grade available foreign coach we shoud have employed

walai talai if Peseiro with his defensive approach was playing them with 10 men and we were leading, there is no way CIV would have beaten us

minfelix:
bros you can’t win that Ivorian team that came with that fiery 🔥 re-enforcement… spain sef jam CIV at afcon that spirited performance will still have them breeze pass to the final…..CIV won Afcon same way Portugal won Euro 2016, same spirited showing Zambia gave….Remember Mali lost a penalty to seal them 2-0 win…Eric Chelle outclassed CIV than Peseiro did at the final…
Same spirited performance that helped chelsea winning UCL 2012 after meeting a technically sound barca and even chelsea receiving red card and messi losing a penalty, they still went ahead to the final to meet another crazy match….so Eric Chelle not beating CIV was not a reflection of the true stat of that game…Eric was hugely unlucky…..
He is not the best but he is good abeg
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 8:14am On Jan 08, 2025
Post AFCON Mali under Chelle lost to Ghana at home, and couldn't beat Madagascar @bolded.
He topped the group at AFCON with 1 win and 2 draws.

Fierce Tunisia? How did Tunisia fare besides Mali at the AFCON?
Let's also note that SA lost their first game. They probably got better after then.

See the Group Standing as a refresher.
minfelix:
is Nigeria Mali? even the quality players we think we have over mali, Chelle still came and chop our eyes 2-0…
He is playing in group that has Ghana,Comoros and Madagascar…these are also decent teams that can beat any country in the top 10….Mali is Just 4points behind Ghana and Comoros with 6games to play…not as if he left Mali in position that they cannot qualify again…i hate hypothetically statements though…but if Mali had left him to continue…he will slug it out with those guys above him in that group going by their form at the Afcon…Africa is just too impatient with coaches…with the Ghana is doing mumu, Post Afcon form of Mali will thrash Madagascar and Comoros and give Ghana a run for their money.
Eric Chelle qualified as table leader form a group that has
3rd place finisher
Fierce North African Tunisia.
oga lets allow him play his first two games(oh ue will even lead Chan eagles in february)…calm down, i didn’t say he the best coach, but he is decent and has some decent african tactics to play in hostile condition.
His first 16games for Mali was a back to back winning.
Even CIV themselves celebrated widely cos the match was a seconds away from PK shootout.

may we also consider the circumstances that led to Fae getting the job? Yes surprises can happen, but should we have these kind of mediocre standards at appointing coaches, because of a few surprises?

Kog45:
Emerse Fae is like Roberto Di Matteo of Chelsea champions league winner,so nothing special

We are all at the party waiting to taste the soup. Not all guests will salivate looking at how dirty the kitchen is.

WarHammer2000:
Well, both Rohr and Peseiro had average RECENT records before they joined the SE but they achieved meaningful success with us.

No matter how good a cook is, if you give her
2,000 naira to cook a pot of Ogbono soup, she will certainly do worse than an average chef given a budget of 500,000 naira to prepare the same dish.

No matter how skilled a coach is, if he keeps getting hired by poor teams with average players, there's little he can do. Chelle has never managed a team as talented as the SE before. Now he has a team with elite players in the best clubs in the world at his disposal.

Let's see how his soup will taste.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 7:59am On Jan 08, 2025
Problem is Chelle is not the best 3rd grade foreign coach we can get with African experience.

minfelix:
bros Eric Chelle is not any coach…atleast he is an experienced coach and has been around here in africa for sometimes…you all are looking for a coach that won Afcon back to back, or has won epl and bundesliga….who was Emerse Fae the ivorian coach before lifting the afcon trophy?
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 7:58am On Jan 08, 2025
Always follow the money. We are the most patriotic. NFF execs don't love Nigeria.

robosky02:
But the team is already steady
Why not allow Eguavoen to continue
There is already rhythm in the team

And for the CHAN Eagles
How can he take over immediately
Allow ogumbote and illechukwu who know the players down to thier NPFL clubs to finish what they have stated

Let them lead the team to CHAN
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 7:56am On Jan 08, 2025
Eguavoen wanted an indigenous coach to succeed him. I don't think he would have minded continuing. The NFF execs wan chop money. Chelle even took a pay cut to take this job, considering what he was paid in Algeria. That's the kind of profile they like. They get to have their cut.

WarHammer2000:
Honestly, judging by his record, I think they should have just let Eguavoen continue. I don't see how he is better than Eguavoen, and he doesn't have Eguavoen's long experience with the SE. I was only referring to those condemning him for being Malian.

Anyways, maybe Egu isn't convinced that he can win this WC qualifiers and he doesn't want to be remembered as the coach who failed to qualify Nigeria twice.

Chelle vs Peseiro. You can ignore the Naija stats for Peseiro. Granted Chelle is a young coach, but what has he achieved?

The only positive thing I see in Chelle's record is beating SA 2-0 after regulation time at the AFCON. Just 2 wins in that AFCON. Eguavoen even has a better AFCON record
