The more talents u produce the higher the chances of medals. Simple game of numbers. Abi did I say Nigeria have never won medals in the Olympics? Do you have a problem with UK residents? Guy you are just troubled. Always looking for people to label and make enemies. If you want to believe we are not lagging behind, fine. But no abuse people that are just speaking facts. Marjoribanks: You can keep ranting, but you'll never be taken seriously. Doesn't ranting ever tire you out?
We had two under-23 boys in the Olympic 100m semifinals, one each in the 200m and 400m semifinals, one girl in the 100m final, and three in the long jump finals. And several others! Most of them are homegrown athletes, yet you're still complaining. The most by any African country! Keep crying, soogbo! |

Why does it even matter where I am. Can’t we engage ourselves without the labelling. Can’t we be objective for once? Once u think someone is not on your “side” you want to go against every thing they say. That’s childish. forgiveness: Na US Joe dey. |

What’s is the meaning of policy? Oya explain since u think u are teaching me something new. Dude you are just rambling. Take note how you opened this discussion. What did I say and what are u busy trying to disprove? If investors are hesitant to invest who do you blame? lovewins: No one is absolving government of responsibility, if you read my post carefully I said as much. The crux of mt my argument is even with good administrators and policy backup there's little we can achieve because Nigeria sadly isn't rich enough to fund sports. It is why my advocacy is for government to completely handsoff sports in Nigeria.
So my argument isn't for more government policies but just one policy, which is government divesting from sports.
Also, the private sector in Nigeria is well equipped to fund sporting events in Nigeria. The only reason they won't right now is because there's little or no return on investments when they partner with any sporting brand. Government divesting totally from telecommunications and entertainment is what led to the boost we've seen in both industries. BB naija which is just a program here more sponsorship yearly than Nigeria's biggest sporting brand the Super Eagles and all their money comes from the private sector. |

This boy is a fool. What’s this talk about UK sef? If we cannot tell ourselves the truth we cannot move forward as a nation. Marjoribanks: Exactly! People like YOU! Anything to hate on the country! If you don't like the country dey your dey and stop the negativity all the time.
Or you can join the far-right in your UK to help them get their country back! lol! Rest abeg! |

Champions may be polished in the US. But who makes policies to discover them? This wasn’t suppose to be an argument. He wrote a whole lot which still points back to government. It’s either you are playing dumb or plain dumb. Dude how old are u sef? Marjoribanks: Facto! Apt in BankyGee's voice!
Your last paragraph is the koko! Most recent Olympic winners are trained in US Universities just like our athletes too. Even the European Athletes bar few! |

Dude, government policies determines if the private sector will thrive or not. This is very basic lovewins: I wanted to comment on this earlier today but decided against it. It's obvious many do not even understand the problems they want to solve. Let's get this out of the way, our administrators are bad, ineffectiveness and everything in-between and maybe we can attain a little more success if they fix up, but that isn't the problem.
The truth is Nigeria is not rich enough to fund sports or prepare athletes for the Olympics. . It takes an average of $100k yearly to prepare a gymnast for the Olympics and for other sports ranges from 20-50k$ yearly for each athletes. This is the cost implicationin societies with already established facilities. We just can't measure up. Also, most of the funding for these countries come from sponsors and private organisations. They shoulder the responsibility of financing sports.
The truth is Nigeria has a better chance at medalling at the the Olympics if Government gets out of Sports administration completely. That way civil servants will know there's no free money to feast on and it opens up sports associations for more equipped people who can sell the business to take charge.
On the alternate, we can spend more identifying future talents void of sentiments and nepotism, then find a way to get them highschool/college scholarships in the US so US can train them for us. That's what we've been doing the last few years anyways. |

Mod Compared to Naija that has won a total of 27 medals in the history of Olympics Marjoribanks: You guys are so funny! We go cry the same cry in 4 years time. Na today? Ppogbae: It's wild. So many of our athletes fell short of reaching in the finals or medalling in Track and Field. If the government did the bare minimum in terms of planning and providing resources, our medal yield would be so much higher. These things premised on careful planning and investment. There will always be changes. There is absolutely nothing we can do about it. Even your parents and the ones before them have cried the same cries. Mujtahida: We are talking about football. If football dies, which Super Eagles will you watch? Anything that diminishes the game affects football whether national or league football. Tiki taka is a creeping poison. It's seeped through the pore of the game and it's killing it slowly. We won't wait until the gangrene has become irremediable. |
