Let me confirm again.

Icon79:
Joebie, are you serious? Did you hear from reliable sources??

This is a fantastic news, if true. But is he gonna be match sharp for the World Cup tho? He hasn't played in over 1 year. We don't want a repeat of the Peter Rufia experiment grin

Me I’m still hoping on Ikeme’s return. The last thing I heard, he is already having light workout

TheSuperNerd:
If indeed your sources are true, then that is even better news. But abeg they can add another one week too so that we don't risk him against England. Ndidi should not play that England game even if he makes it back ahead of schedule. #MyOpinion.

Feel free not to believe. Those who want to believe let them believe. As long as many others and myself still possess an original birth certificate we still have people telling the truth. Let’s cease from this age debate unless we have solid proofs to back our claim.

asha80:
that we actually believe the ages of these Nigerian players that were born and bred in Nigeria is laughable to me.

I’m not the only one who have argued this in the past. If his performance as AM in Arsenal’s last game did not convince u, nothing ever will.

Ideally they should be able to switch roles at any given time.
MetalJigsaw:
Nice view. But such combination doesn't always work out. Because a two- pronged attack basically requires an SS (supporting striker).

The supporting striker is the one taking the responsibility of dishing out final/ deadly passes to the main striker (creativity and vision) The SS does the dirty work and frees up the main striker.

Eg: Iheanacho, Dele Ali, Muller of Bayern Munich etc.

What’s the scores now?
Icon79:
Don't bet on it. It's already 0-1 Bayern.

I still believe in Jupp Heynckes. If the officiating is fair (and that's a big IF), Bayern would come through at the end.

Iwobi can man the AM position comfortably.

MetalJigsaw:
I don't think you truly answered the question bro.
Shehu undoubtedly is good both as RB and DM. But can such be said if Iwobi?

We all know Iwobi can not man the AM position comfortably. Even the wing position.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 7:30pm On May 01, 2018
I am not trying to judge him on that. I’ve been a J.Obi supporter. But the point I’v been trying to make is that all things being equal, prior WC experience can give a player an edge .

Icon79:
Like I said, I don't judge him based on those two games. Those two games were not our best games, especially the Serbia game, so it might be unfair base your decision on them. Let's see how he performs in the remaining friendly games especially when the full squad is available.

Good, so based on what you an I have watched recently how creative is he?

Modified
Because the Obi I watched recently was more of a destroyer. Hold that thought for a moment and let’s go back to that scenario. Who would u choose?

Icon79:
Bros, I started watching Joel Obi as far back as his Inter Milan days. He has always been a creative player, even when they occasionally puts him at LWB. Trust me, we haven't seen the best of him in GWG - provided that he's still the same Joel Obi. And he did show some flashes of the old Joel Obi in the last two games as well, so there's hope.

Follow my discussion with Icon79

mbjane:
Bros me and you know onazi will start ahead of shehu as far as it's DM,not that onazi is having a better season, there are other options in DM na,shehu belong to right back
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 7:10pm On May 01, 2018
Where did u see that creativity? Did u watch his Serie A games or is that assumed from his performances in th GWG many years ago? Where?

Icon79:
I will decide based on other distinctive qualities. For instance, in the scenario you posed above, I will go with Joel because he's more creative than Onazi. Onazi may be a better marker (one-on-one destroyer) type midfielder but we already have that in Ndidi; hence, I will select J. Obi (as his partner) because he's gonna provide a little bit more creativity than either Onazi or Ndidi.

SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 6:38pm On May 01, 2018
Okay let’s assume your order is valid. Selection headache being that while monitoring the players in training before WC match day Onazi is doing as well as Obi, would u decide solely based on their club form?
Icon79:
On current form, our best DMs are in this particular order:
Wilfred Ndidi followed by Joel Obi, followed by Ogenyi Onazi, followed by John Ogu.

Selection headache? What headachehuh

SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 6:26pm On May 01, 2018
Sir the question is if Onazi is at par in camp with any player without WC experience who would u choose? Selection headache being the context.

Icon4s:
Ogu too is there. We are covered in the DM position.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 6:24pm On May 01, 2018
Ok sir.
Icon4s:
You see? now I understand.

Just like the American anthem gives me some particular memories of my earlier youthful stage.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 6:21pm On May 01, 2018
We were considering a scenario. In fact I could say J.Obi instead. I would pick Onazi if I’m facing a selection headache between the two.
Icon4s:
Rohr is not likely to play Shehu at DM. At least not at this stage of preparations. Rohr has a good list of DM options.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 6:19pm On May 01, 2018
The Star spangled banner is overplayed to me. I’ve heard it too many times. That may just be the reason. It doesn’t have a bad melody. The French anthem gives me memory of a particular stage of my childhood.

Icon4s:
Definitely!

For eg I belong to the Classical and Oprah School. Don't bring anything Rock near me.

But these anthems have been sang using different styles of Music.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 6:17pm On May 01, 2018
And why is that? Shehu is a regular in Bursaspor with an MOTM performance. Has Onazi had a better season? Why Onazi if they are both looking at par in camp?

mbjane:
Ekong started warming bench now which is almost end of the league,if he keep on warming the bench next season I am sorry to say he will not be a regular.

I will choose onazi ahead of shehu
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 6:07pm On May 01, 2018
Sir music taste differs oh. Abi u no know?
Icon4s:
It has some good melody too you know.

So what will you say about the British Anthem?
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 6:05pm On May 01, 2018
He will make the 30 man list on merit. Today Ekong is warming bench as well. They will both make the list on merit. But let’s consider this scenario in camp before the Argentina match . If you are Rohr and U are facing
a selection headache between Shehu and Onazi before match day, who would u choose?
mbjane:
He is not playing badly bro just as we both said,Bt imagine if he is a typical bench warmer will you call for his world up experience ?
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 4:31pm On May 01, 2018
Cool down brother we both agree he deserves to be in the team. Are u saying his WC experience is not also an added advantage?

mbjane:
Where did I say he does not deserve to be in the team? If you can't show me that then you don't know what you are saying.

I said onazi deserve to be in the team because he is playing well and not because of World Cup experience,World Cup experience doesn't gurantee a player shirt,I don't know if you can understand me and show me where I said onazi doesn't deserve to be in the team ?

Concerning oboabona I am just making example o,oboabona ke
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 4:25pm On May 01, 2018
I watched the game. His bad moments outweighed his few good moments.
But hopefully in future he would look at his peers and realize there is still more to fight for in his career.

Loogan:
Yeah he seems to be wallowing in the good life and fame of soccer. In terms of hunger he might have lost it but it's very common with young players, he can always get his grove back because he's too talented, an assist in about only 3games not a bad statement

That’s it!
Martz101:
Yea is a good thing we have options now, just imagine the 2014 situation, if Onazi goes off injured there is an Ogu, Etebo, even a shehu or a fit Joel coming in to do a good job unlike a Gabriel Ruben coming in.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 4:19pm On May 01, 2018
Don’t tell me not to say what I didn’t say in the first place.

He hasn’t played badly so why are u insinuating he does not deserve to be in the team. All I was trying to say was that Onazi also brings WC experience to whatever he has done. He has serious competition, fine. But Talking of Oboabona’s WC experience is out of context and I’ve already told u why.

mbjane:
I am not speaking out of context okay

Yes onazi deserves to be in the team, but don't tell me because someone has World Cup experience he should be in a team,if you play well you deserve to be in the team and if you don't play well you don't deserve to be there so forget about this World Cup experience of a thing.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 4:13pm On May 01, 2018
Well it’s all about what the team needs. Personal preference of the player is secondary. As komekn rightly said you have to have a wide consideration of other players. Will the SE be stronger with Ebuehi as RB and Shehu partnering Ndidi?

And yes, the strength or weakness of our opponent can also determine the kind of changes we would make. Most importantly it’s alsays good to have a considerable number of versatile players. And I mean they have to be really good playing two or more positions.

Martz101:
Mikel remain our tried and tested AM, he has done very well in the qualifiers in that position and we won't change that in the main occasion.

Iwobi for me might not a sure starter in our team, he can continue in the wings even if his starting and get to play the AM if Mikel is sub off or God forbid injured.

Another situation might be Nigeria in need for goal against a less attacking team like Iceland, Onazi might come off for another attacking player and then have a double AM instead of a double DM
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 4:07pm On May 01, 2018
I’m more about the melody. Of course I know the lyrics. Just personal preference

Icon4s:
Maybe the lyrics of the American Anthem will help you love it.

And yes the Nigerian anthem will be so great with good symphony and orchestral accompaniment. I have heard a couple of such renditions.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 1:21pm On May 01, 2018
Onazi is in the team today based on merit. Oboabona has long fallen off the radar. Don’t talk out of context.

mbjane:
Forget world Cup experience if you are good you are good, onazi is okay and he might start at the World Cup.

But because someone has World Cup experience he must be at the World Cup? Make dem call back oboabona Na if na so.

When Spain won the World Cup in 2010 if I can remember Sergio busquets and Gerard pique has no World Cup experience and they are solid and they played all minutes of the tournament.
