I didn't read that news that Rohr plans to call him as a back up to Mikel safarigirl: injury prone or not. Joel Ovi is not trying to be first choice...he is being called as back-up, emphasis on the word BACK-UP to Mikel, so, except something foes wrong with Mikel, he will only come in as a sub here and there.
What is the likelihood of him getting injured in such appearances?

This is exactly the reason why national coaches may not look at the performance of a player under a previous national coach. Most look at their recent club form to see if what they give is what they are looking to add to their team. It's always the fans that cry about past national performances. As long as the player is still performing, he always has a chance to get another look, and that's if the current coach likes what he sees. TheGoodJoe: Long ball. Keshi relied a lot on long balls. That was why a lot of the old guns hardly made it. From Osaze, Martins and K. Uche. Apart from Musa, Keshi relied on big players to lead his attack. From Emenike, Ideye, Shola Ameobi, Bright Dike, to some extent Osaguona and Uchebo.
Martins would hardly fit into that system unless he played on the wings. |

Hahaha reaping where he did not sow. If he displace some of the guys for SE for camp, that one no be sowing? Club performance no be sowing? Ok o, make we just use Ezenwa as our 1st choice for same reasons. soetanoreoluwa: Obagoal is definitely going to get a look in by March provided his village people don't come knocking by giving him injury
But wait o... I just can't believe all the video am seeing around with Martins scoring up and down even not only here even on twitter and IG... Some players self dey pull the video forward...
My question... Where re these videos during qualifiers?
Is because we qualified for WC.?
Definitely Martins get strong hold with massive influence and it is really working for him..
If he made 23 man list is gonna be painful cos his reaping where he did not sow...
But his inclusion won't bad either with his current form, just hope he maintains it. |

I was just mentioning Maduka to make a point that the scouts are also in a look out for goal keepers, it's not like we are waiting on Enyeama's decision. The situation was similar when Rohr gave conditions for Enyeama's recall. When Enyeama meets those conditions then we can talk about if Enyeama is ready to call off his retirement or not. As long as he is not playing, we don't want to know if he wants to return or not. Mujtahida: I love how gallant he looks but let's leave Maduka yet. He's for the future. He shouldn't even be on our lips for this WC. Shows you how much of a problem we have if we mentioning Maduka who is 18, has no international experience and plays for Fortuna Dusseldorf B side(omo as I was writing this something kept telling me'Uzoho nko'? |

my brother, we will not be waiting for anyone's decision. Preparation has always been on. The scouts are at work. Just recently a GK was discovered. Whether Maduka comes good or not, the handwriting on the wall is clear -- we are not waiting for anyone's decision. Mujtahida: The point with Enyeama goes beyond his regaining fitness, performance at club and whether he deserves a call up. The crux - more important than any other - is this: is Enyeama willing to return to the team? If he's not willing then as far as our WC is concerned all the other things mentioned do not count. My thoughts are that we should start preparing those we have now oo and stop waiting for Enyeama to decide whether he's gon play for us, or wait for him to regain fitness or get a club or deserve his inclusion. The sun is shining. Let's make hay. |

We can't be complacent. This is a tricky group. The team we underrate might just be the most difficult to beat. SupremeBeast: all the best with Croatia but I know they are very beatable. it's mostly Nigerian fans that put pressure on the team. |

Oh yes they will be in their 40s and won't be able to perform at an optimum level. I agree. And Rohr thinks like this Modified Just because we have the "youngest" team, the early 30s have become too old to play good football.. okay o.. kwantinue ChrisKels: The tinkering and watching of video tapes ain't gonna change the fact he made about the aging star players of Croatia
Abi tinkering will get them any younger? |

Nigeria would have won 2002 World Cup but for squabbles –Adeboye Onigbinde
By Austin Peters -
December 2, 2017
Coach Adeboye Onigbinde has sensationally declared that Nigeria would have won the 2002 World Cup in Korea/Japan but for the internal squabbles that overtook his team at the championship.
The Super Eagles failed to go past the first round in Korea/Japan, but Onigbinde said he strongly believed if not for the bickerings that bedeviled his team at the World Cup, Nigeria would have made history.
“There was nothing stopping us from winning the World Cup (in 2002), but for internal problems in my team,” Onigbinde told Channels Television.
“If we had drawn with Argentina and beaten Sweden, we would have qualified for the next round and we could have gone all the way to win the World Cup.”
He said the biggest problem his team faced was the attitude of some of the players.
“The attitude of some of the players made me to overhaul the team after we lost to both Argentina and Sweden and we drew with England in our final group game,” he recalled. Onigbinde has now back Nigeria to go all the way and win the World Cup next year in Russia.
“I said this a few months ago and some people thought it was a joke,” he said. “It’s possible, let’s prepare World Cup and Nigeria can win the World Cup.”
Nigeria are drawn in Group D along with Argentina, Croatia and Iceland. They open their Russia 2018 campaign on the night of June 16 against Croatia.

I like the group. It does not give room for complacency. We were not favorites at the qualifiers, and we took it seriously. Let's also take this one seriously as the underdogs, not paying attention to mind games from the other coaches. We were the ones in Pot 4, so on paper, we are the underdogs. Better that way. edi287: Truth is on Paper, Argentina and Croatia are favorites to get out of the group. Rohr and the players know this. I doubt they'd get carried away and underestimate anyone in this group |

The Argentina game is our last game. One game at a time. After our first game, we will know if Croatia is hyped or not. SupremeBeast: exactly, I'm having a feeling Nigeria's biggest test will be against Iceland, Croatia is a hyped footballing nation, Mexico defeated them at the World Cup 4-0 last four year! Nigeria can get a draw or a win against Argentina because I think Nigeria will be playing the weakest argentine team in recent times but beating Iceland won't be easy though it's possible. |
