Somebody was trying to canvass for indigenous coaches Mujtahida: The records were that no European country has ever won the WC outside Europe. Germany bursted that record. Whether we win the next WC or the one in Qatar or any WC for that matter it's going to be by bursting what bookmakers say. We won't win normally. It would be full of surprises. |

My interpretation of Rohr’s response is this. It’s either he is just being diplomatic. More like saying if Osimhen is still in my plans, then I have no excuse not to give a chance to any striker that is scoring, or maybehe is really thinking Martins deserves a chance to be tried in this current SE. Either way, it’s a good sign. Competition is good. goldfish80: Exclusive: Rohr opens World Cup door to Martins
Obafemi Martins could have a chance to play at another World Cup if he keeps maintains his scoring form, Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr has told KweséESPN. The 33-year-old, who plays in China for Shanghai Shenhua, has scored 16 goals in 39 appearances, with his last goal coming in Sunday's 3-2 second leg win over SIPG to lead his team to the Chinese FA Cup title. The Nigerian also scored the only goal of the first leg, which saw Shenhua progress on the away-goal rule. Martins also boasts a respectable goalscoring record at international level, netting 18 in 41 appearances, but has only played for the Super Eagles four times since 2010, with his last two appearances coming in 2015, despite impressive showings with Seattle Sounders in the MLS and now Shanghai Shenhua. However, Rohr says he is willing to chat to the Martins to increase his options up-front. "Yes, the door is open to all our best players, including Martins. He is scoring a lot of goals and we need to get competition for all the positions, especially centre-forward. "For now, we have Kelechi [Iheanacho] who is playing not all the time. [But ] we played with Kelechi against Argentina and he did well. Then Anthony [Nwakaeme] also did well against Algeria and [Odion] Ighalo, who is injured now, did very well against Cameroon. But we have also other players, like the young boy [Victor] Osimhen, and we have to look everywhere. "We have a lot of opportunities for the strikers, and so Martins, if he is scoring goals, will be welcome."

Ok I’ve been on transit. Just finished catching up with all the posts.
On KC, he will need to weather the storm. I was among those who clamored for his departure from Man City, but I had rather preferred he moved to Germany. Well the situation is what it is. It appears he is facing the same music in Leicester. Well not actually the same. This music is a bad bad record. He would have looked better being benched by the likes of Jesus and Aguero in a team with a blistering form so far, than that lowly Leicester. Let truth be told, Leicester is making him look very bad considering his potentials that we’ve always seen in him. The solution for him is to fight his way back to reckoning. He needs to challenge the likes of Vardy to show he is really that player we see him as. As far as SE is concerned, I’m comfortable with him.
On Kayode. He still has a lot to prove that his exploits in the Austrian Bundealiga was not a fluke. For SE, he has a mountain to climb. |

I don't think the players that were missing necessitated a change in formation. We had players who could play as wingers. We did not miss Echiejile. The only notable name was Ighalo who is the truest 9. That had nothing to do with us switching to a back 3. The change was tactical, not due to a lack in personnel to prosecute the 4-2-3-1 formation. Mujtahida: Okay I understand you now. But would you love for us to try out the 3-5-2 even with the regulars in the team? Did it look like Rohr used it against Argentina as a makeshift because the regulars were injured or it was deliberate? |

TheGoodJoe, you and Pep sef.. make e no enter idolatry oh Mujtahida: Here we go again- arguing about words. My point is Guardiola did not invent anything. He remixed an existing idea just like musicians regularly do with songs. I said you are ignorant of total football and it's history because you said what Guardiola dis was strange. How strange? For bringing forward to our era an idea that is almost a hundred years old makes it strange? I agree he's a genius. I agree that he brought it into the modern game but not so modern as such cos Cruyff did it as early back as the late 80's and early 90's in a Barcelona team of which Guardiola was a part of. That's my point. Total football has a history which did not begin with Guardiola even though he takes credit for bringing it forward to our time thus continuing the legacies of those who are his footballing ancestors so to speak. |

Anderlecht Coach Still Unhappy With Henry : His Dribbles Are Negative
Anderlecht manager Hein Vanhaezebrouck is unhappy with the contribution of Nigeria international Henry Onyekuru in the last two games in the Belgian First Division A, saying his dribbles were negative over the course of ninety minutes.
The Everton loanee is Anderlecht's top scorer in the league with seven goals from fifteen appearances.
''Henry has to stop thinking that he’s only about his goals... The sum of his dribbles must be positive after 90 minutes. Not negative, as now,'' Vanhaezebrouck stated, according to nieuwsblad.be.
''Especially if he has so much space and as little opposition as against Kortrijk, he should avoid simple ball losses.
''Yes, last week against Mouscron he scored the winning goal, but I expect more from him.''
Onyekuru has notched eight goals in all competitions for the Belgian champions, but only three were scored in front of the club's fans at the Stade Constant Vanden Stock in Brussels.
Anderlecht will host Uche Agbo's Standard Liege in the Cup on Wednesday.

I don't think you really understood what I was saying. I'm saying Rohr is looking for a back up for Ighalo. Should we decide to play our usual 4-2-3-1 formation as our best bet at any point in time, and Ighalo is injured or something, having that back up player will prove crucial. Granted, some of us may argue that the likes of Iheanacho can play as the arrowhead in attack. But I don't think Rohr feels so. Mujtahida: So you suggesting we play such a tactics as we used against the Argies even when we have the full compliment of our players not just as a shoo in because of the unavailability of personnel to play our normal formation. |

Good point. It's a tactic I use when playing PS. The less your opponent has the ball the less opportunities they have. We showed character, and if we meet a similar situation at the WC, we will know just what to do. Mujtahida: 5 shots on target, 4 goals. Yes it was a friendly but let me say this :Joebie do you know that Argentina were doing what I hate the most- passing the ball sideways in the attacking third(kinda tiki taka style of play) but we were very direct and incisive. That's my kinda style - Jupp Heynckes Champions league winning Bayern team style of play. |

you are more dynamic when you can choose any formation and you have the personnel to execute. That's what Rohr has in mind. Changing tactics just because of a lack in the team is limiting the possibilities, especially when it's best to play against an opponent a specific way. Mujtahida: We already have a 9 in Ighalo and Rohr is looking for his backup so that we can have Iheanacho, Ighalo and then whosoever is chosen. I don't think the coach was impressed with Nwakaeme. But even without a top 9 we can and should be able to play. That's tactical flexibility that the lady was talking about. The possibilities though, are that soon distinctions as to player roles might not exist ooo. Every player might be required to be as good in any position. |

Utilizing a few opportunities is indeed a huge strength. The most tactical teams make it count when it matters most. It was just a friendly, but it remains a good test. Mujtahida: I watched that match today again. Something struck me:We played Argentina like the way Brazil played Ghana in 2006. Ghana like Argentina did all the playing though Argentina scored too, we like Brazil did more scoring. How can we translate this victory in a friendly into a victory in a non friendly game with South American countries? |
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 5:49pm On Nov 27, 2017 |
We need back ups to execute any formation, in case of injuries etc EEGA: Both Mikel and Rohr said "going to the WC you need to perfect at least 3 different formations".
Our first formation(4-2-3-1) is our best because with it, we qualified from the group of death and we are more accustomed to playing it, being that we faced oppositions in competitive matches with it.
I will say the formation is tested , trusted and more reliable to others(not saying we shouldn't try others).
There is also 70% probability that the 4-2-3-1 will be played in one or more of our group stage matches.
Why is Rohr still searching for a 9 ?
The reason is that he sees the 4-2-3-1 as indispensable because you can't compare competitive matches to friendlies.
Rohr is trying to make sure that we have players who will do well with our "first choice formation".
It's wrong to say we abandon a formation we played in our "six -qualifying matches" and pick another which we only played at most 2 or 3 times.
Just like you don't change a winning team, you don't drop a winning formation.
A friendly is what it is, "a friendly". |

I personally will rather want to see Onyekuru at PSG or Barca. I think his style suits both clubs. I am confident he will get game time and prove his mettle. terzurum5: 20 Y/0 Nigerian Ace Wanted By Manchester United: Do They Really Need Him?
https://the4thofficial.net/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/862862868-1.jpg
Manchester United scouts have been sent out to monitor the progress of on-loan Everton forward, Henry Onyekuru. The Toffees beat a whole of clubs to secure his services in the summer, before deciding to loan him out to Belgian champions, Anderlecht. Since his move, he has scored seven goals in 14 appearances this season, which has attracted interest from some of the giants of European football.
HLN are now reporting that the Red Devils have been monitoring his progress and keeping a keen eye on his performance in the recent times.
The 21-year-old scored the winner in Anderlecht’s 2-1 win over R. Excel Mouscron away from home. His goal scoring efforts have helped his side to third place in the Belgian first division. The forward scored in the last ten minutes of the game, which handed Anderlecht all three points.
Anderlecht has played one more game than Belgian league leaders, Club Brugge with a tally of 28 points in 15 games this season.
https://the4thofficial.net/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/862870996.jpg
There have also been reports suggesting that Everton might recall their £7m signing as they look to find some inspiration in front of goal. The Toffees have struggled to score enough goals this season, which has led to an early elimination from the Europa League and are currently in 16th place in the Premier League, just three points above the relegation zone.
The Daily Star are reporting that Premier League clubs, Southampton and Stoke City are also interested in the Nigerian. Dutch giants Ajax and PSV Eindhoven may also join in on the race for the midfielder.
The brilliant marksman was born in Onitsha, Nigeria and was part of the Aspire Academy in Qatar. He began his professional career at K.A.S. Eupen in 2015 where he scored 28 goals in 57 appearances.
The on-loan winger is highly versatile and can play in either flank or as a central forward. His current Everton contract runs until June 2022 so it is expected that if he does move in the near future, it would be for big money.
Onyekuru earned his first international cap recently when Nigeria were held to a 1-1 draw against Algeria in a World Cup qualifier. Nigeria boss, Gernot Rohr has high expectations of him and may include his name in the national squad for the 2018 Fifa World Cup in Russia next summer.
Manchester United started their campaign this season in emphatic fashion, scoring a plethora of goals in the first few matches. However, with the season progressing, the goals have dried up and they might need a genuine sharpshooter like Onyekuru to become a part of their lineup. Now, it remains to be seen whether he will indeed leave Goodison Park without having kicked a ball for the Toffees
