In fact from this very moment I will stop indulging in needless arguments. If the discussion is not about how we, collectively, can be involved in something progressive for the betterment of Nigerian football or the Nigerian society at large, it's just noisemaking, hoping that someone "important" will stumble on this thread and act is a pipe dream. You know what? As regards my new stance, that's what I call TRUE patriotism.
Modified Just arguing in favor of your country does no mean you are patriotic. Love for country is action. What can we do? Then I will start discussing. In fact i'm calling on all those who are ready to talk solutions here, let's meet on whatsapp or something. We can use our time more wisely. |

My friend they have a system at home. And they also have a system of keeping these players on their radar. I'm not even a basketball fan. And just because the Greek basketball league is not as popular as the NBA don't mean they don't have a structured league. goldfish80: You're still on this Antetokumpo case? Not even after showing you clearly that this guy started playing for Greek U19's when he was playing in the Greek 2nd division? Do you watch Greek A2 basketball? Name one team you know in the Greek 2nd div basketball league.
It takes a lot of hard work to develop from home. The easy way out will be to ambush diaspora born who are on the verge of signing professional contracts, when we return with our tails behind like in the cases of Owomoyela, Nedum, Aogo and lately Tammy, we will be back here suggesting how to open shops to get these individuals to commit early before their adopted countries invite them.
I'm quite disappointed having this sort of conversation to be honest. |

There are potentials everywhere. Where there is no system, you go to the streets to find them. You can keep promoting backwardness if you want. Potential is only a thing -- innate, Just as resources is only a thing -- found underneath. But what do you do from there? Keep these talents in the Nigerian system and you will see what will become of these potentials. You can't separate socio-economic strength as you call it from football. You doubt me? Look at the forerunners in sports for that matter. Compare it to their economies, you will see a correlation. For one thing I know that some people will travel but they will still not learn much. I have seen that type. Modified Football is our number one sport. And if we still can't get it right in football, that tells you something about our socio-economic strength. goldfish80: Comparing the socio-economic strength of Nigeria with football is like apples and oranges. They are not the same thing.
Science and technology is not one of our strengths as a country. It makes sense to import warships, gun boats, fighter jets and armored tanks. One can ask questions why some inventions made by the Biafrans during the war was not tapped into by succeeding governments (story for another day).
When it comes to football, we cannot say we lack the talents so much that we should start importing footballers just like we import warships. This is ridiculous.
Read what a foreigner said about talents in Nigeria
” I can’t seem to understand the rave behind Karamoko Dembele by the world, especially Nigerians. I have seen a lot of his type on the street in Nigeria, so kill the hype” He told Owngoalnigeria.com.
” He is good no doubt, but like I told a friend of mine, in Nigeria on the streets on bad playing pitches, not the type Dembele enjoys in Scotland, they are better players in Lagos, Abuja, Porthacourt, Warri, Kaduna, Kano etc.
” I challenge anybody who doubts me to follow me to Nigeria. Look my friend, I have spent time in the country and in Europe, so I know what am saying. They are millions of Dembele on the street in Nigeria, playing football with no boots or facility but yet doing well”.
A foreigner believes Nigeria have this many un tapped talents. Take a moment and let that sink in. |

ehen.. good one! Icon79: Thank you very much, my broad!
That and also know the limits of our discussions here. Sometimes some of us act like once we can win the argument here, that it would change something in the team. Frankly, I don't think that Rohr would come to NL web forum to gauge our temperature before making his team selections or before inviting people to the camp. I mean, I don't see Rohr going "hmm ... these fans think that John Ogu is better than Mikel Agu, so next time I would play Ogu instead of Agu."

Okay I appreciate the honesty. If all you said is true, tomorrow IF the boy decides to play for us, let's accept him with that same love. Humility017: please bro...let's leave this Tammy issue please..I really don't want it to cause misunderstanding between us...
all since I have been following football..I have never seen a player Nigerians so much craved for and loved the way they go about this Tammy.... the news of his possible switch brought joy to many football loving nigerians....
I remember a man United fan I once meet sometime ago could not hide his excitement....this is someone who barely watch the super eagles play.... he was so excited and was blessing pinnick...
he was someone that I tell you....pinnick don't mind snick into the 24 man squad for the world cup....
the measures adopted for his switch I doubt if it has been employed for other players..... mind you...pinnick has been on his case right from his under 19 days in Chelsea academy...
pinnick was ready to throw him.in the ring...had it been him and his dad gave him their words...
they kept telling pinnick...that he wanna progress through the English youth system first....that's their focus for now....
same style llorfa and his son used....hoping that llorfa junior will get into the 3 lions squad...now that it is becoming impossible...he now wants his son to play for nigeria....
it really pained many Nigerians...and you don't expect them to take it lightly wit him..especially that red carpet statement....the lad messed up wit those words...
I tell you many Nigerians just love this boy... that's why they're reactin the way they're doing..... I believe with time...they will forget and let him be..... |

oga if I follow you go down that road we will both get dirty. These things I said shouldn't bother you if you don't see yourself in that majority. I'm well travelled. I know what I'm saying when I talk about us being noisy. And of course we know we are noisy. Or maybe we are so accustomed to it to the extent that we do not even know. Just as one of my friend said, that Nigerians are so corrupt and they don't even know it. so true. And that's not necessarily a generalization. You have to understand context. I have said it here countless times that corruptions is everywhere. In fact you will find everything everywhere. Even slums are in America. So let "commonsense" teach you where I stand in this comparison. Humility017: there you go again wit your loopsided generalisation.... count me out of that majority.... because...many Nigerians I know prove otherwise....
i still remember a British man remark when mikel caused the free kick that led to PSG first goal in the last champions league he played....
I doubt if any Nigerian will swiftly make such comment....
please bro...common sense should teach you..that they're good, noisy and bad people in every nation, race tribe or continent....
so please...don't paint Nigeria with your views |

I follow the lad on Twitter...I have gone to Twitter to go see for myself if those claims of you guys yesterday was true... only to find out...that you guys made it look as if most Nigerians who commented on this matter on Twitter were all insulting him...
most Nigerians only made reference to the likes of agbonlahor and co...and how they were treated...some say he will likely get few caps like 5 or so... that's all I could read...though there were few insults...
even the English peeps are not free from same immaturity....
everyone has a different perception on this Tammy scenario and as such are going to interprete it differently....
to some....Tammy used the super eagles to draw up Southgate attention...
to others he was grossly pressured by the English press....
on another pole...pinnick messed everything up...bla bla...

It will do you some good to write this length you just wrote and dedicate it to those raining abuses on Tammy. All I have tried to do is show that we need to be better at making approaches if we must learn anything from this saga. I'm not pressing on the need for NFF to refute what Tammy said. if we must go on throwing stones on Tammy, then the NFF should not be spared as regards knowing what really happened. That's all i'm saying. SerVik: I couldn't care any less what Tammy says, freedom of expression is a fundamental human right and Tammy has exercised his.
What I'm saying is that we should move on, as opposed to you who think our football Federation should present a 50 slide PowerPoint to refute a single sentence from Tammy.
Move on. But if the NFF has enough time on their hands to be do a press release to counter a statement made by somebody who is probably sipping Cooley in the English camp then by all means.
While we are at it, should we also create a committee to search the Internet and respond to every quote from players like ibe, Sidney Sam, agbolanhor and the rest?
It's few months to the world Cup, we have more pressing issues.
I repeat, it's not worth it. |

Eagles Training: Deportivo La Coruna Goalkeeper Uzoho Impresses In Shooting Drills November 8, 2017019
As part of our build up to the dead rubber World Cup 2018 Qualifiers tie between Nigeria and Algeria, Owngoalnigeria.com contact in Morocco witnessed the Eagles training session.
The goalkeepers of the team had a shooting session which was handled by the goalkeeper trainers Alloy Agu and Enrico Pionetti, with goalkeeper Francis Odinaka Uzoho and Ikechukwu Ezenwa taking part.
During the drills newly invited Deportivo La Coruna shot stopper Uzoho impressed with his long reach especially in diving to make saves, as his impressive height ensure he hardly misses when he dives.
Standing at an impressive height of over six feet tall, Uzoho wasn’t as assured in terms of grip like Ikechukwu Ezenwa who is the number one goalkeeper of the team.
However, Uzoho put up a good performance in training during the morning session, and he will be hoping for more of the same in the second session which will take place later this evening.
Goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi has joined up with the rest of the team, hence they will be three goalkeepers in the team for the session which will focus more on tactical issues ahead of Friday’s game.

Wydad Star Chisom On Rumored Call-Up : There's No Nigerian GK Playing In Morocco Published: November 08, 2017 Wydad Star Chisom On Rumored Call-Up : There's No Nigerian GK Playing In MoroccoWydad Casablanca striker Chisom Chikatara has reacted to rumours suggesting that an 'unnamed' Moroccan-based goalkeeper has been handed a late call-up to the Super Eagles for their upcoming World Cup qualifier against Algeria.
The former Abia Warriors sensation has quickly dismissed the bogus report, saying that there are only three Nigerian players based in Morocco.
''There is no Nigerian goalkeeper playing in Morocco, there are only three of us in Morocco, Tony Edjomariegwe, Popoola Sodiq and myself,'' a bemused Chikatara told allnigeriasoccer.com.
Questioned over his thoughts on the upcoming game against Algeria, Chikatara answered : ''It is very cold in Algeria now, they should keep the ball.
''The Super Eagles have nothing to lose though, I am hoping that Nigeria will still win.''
No uninvited goalkeeper was sighted in the training picture uploaded by the Nigeria Football Federation on the social networks, where goalkeeper coaches Alloy Agu and Enrico Pionetti took Ikechukwu Ezenwa and Francis Uzoho through an intensive session on Wednesday morning.
Chippa United netminder Daniel Akpeyi is already in Rabat and will train with his international teammates in their second workout today. |

Oga that was a question for you. I'm aware of the academies in this country. so does that now translate to having an organized league? my friend the question really was can you mention top 5 U17 players domestically. I can sit here on my computer and name players abroad by just researching online. Why? because there is an organized league there. can you name the top 5 academy players in Nigeria? I hope you get my point now. Stop making a whole different arguement goldfish80: I stopped reading when I read the lines (if asked to scout for talents I will grow grey hairs) Maybe you don't know, the likes of Emmanuel Babayaro and various agents from South America and Europe are making a fortune by scouting for talents and exporting them to Europe and Asia.
If Emmanuel Babayaro had this same mindset like you do, he will probably be on nairaland front page begging for money to pay for his medical bills.
So you think Kanu Nwankwo will be willing to fund a football academy if he thinks there's a dearth of talents in Owerri?
I want you to understand something very clearly, in every street in Nigeria, you will find atleast one exceptionally gifted player.
If you're looking for already made players in Nigeria, I'm sorry, you won't find them. But if you're looking for talents or potentials them full brekete. |

People call systems "rolling carpet" Do the Americans etc roll carpets for talented Nigerians to go over there and improve their skill/knowlege so they can add to that economy? Did the Greek Basketball Association roll carpets to capture players in diaspora (referring to those Nigerian-decent basketballers in the US)? My friend, your suggestion is not a suggestion. It is known. It seen by all. Fine, it's okay to copy and paste, but you and I know that it is a pipe dream. Everyone knows that we need a well structured league in Nigeria. But my position is having a system for players in diaspora to identify with us early does not scuttle our development plans, should we have one. Apples and Oranges. We don't even have one in the first place. Will we ever get it right here? If we have to wait for utterances of 19 year olds to be reminded that we need to develop our own, then we are not true to ourselves. In fact, we are not serious. The consciousness to develop things in Nigeria for Nigerians should be ever-present to start with. Are we babies. Nigeria is 57 years and we have to be reminded to develop our own thing? The 20 year old boy is just making choices and living his own life. PLEASE goldfish80: Let em use an analogy to correct your first paragraph. If an Aba tailor made a caftan for a client in USA and that same client wore the caftan back to Nigeria. Will you say that caftan was made in USA?
We aren't importing players, rather we are exporting players when these players come back and play for us, we are not importing them so to speak.
I know the reason why alot of people freak out when I talk about home grown is because of the fear that they may not get to see Nigerian players in Epl and Champions league because they will all be playing in the NPFL (anyone who says otherwise is lying to himself... Lol)
Look, that idea is very far from what I'm proposing.
When I talk about home grown, I am talking about a proper development channel where talented kids are captured and nurtured. Like we have special science schools, grammar schools, technical colleges and other specialized schools. We could also have football or sports schools. They are currently doing this in India(I got to know about this when I handled a project for an Indian guy). In the near future India will be a force to reckon with at the Olympics like China and USA.
If we can have this sort of programme running in the country and a solid league system which will absorb these players. The result will be an unprecedented number of Nigerian Sports men going directly from Nigeria to top football clubs in the world.
There won't be a need to roll red carpets for anyone again. The reverse will be the case.
It is very cowardly and lazy to set up shop in Europe and hunt for Nigerian born individuals to roll red carpets when we have millions of untapped talents back home. |

Else, don't throw around curses like uncivilized people. SerVik: The deed has been done, mistakes have been made, lessons have been learnt. Time to move on, use the experience of this loss in our subsequent dealings.
We all make mistakes and pinick's was relying somewhat overly on his relationship with Mr. Abraham, and going ahead of himself to announce a switch when was not yet formal.
But Tammy has made his choice and we should respect that. I see no reason why the NFF should be sniffing around the Internet, waiting for Tammy to make a statement so they can refute. It is not worth it. |

Thank you! Mujtahida: Our hypocrisy and ungraciousness is disgusting. Imagine the barrage of foul words hurled at Tammy. To get a picture of the wickedness in our hearts just imagine if we were England and Iwobi ditched us. Chai, he'd be dead by now. The men would have gone to burn down his house, chase him away from his club and drive him out of the country, the women would line the streets and murder him with invectives. But Iwobi ditched England for Nigeria. Yet he lives in London, moves around freely, plays in an elite football club. Contrast it with the empty, puerile wailings and cursings frothing from the mouths of our people 'Tammy has disgraced Nigeria ooo, God punish him papa' yadayada yadayada. I just dey laugh. We no gat no clue wetin be disgrace.
Are the English saints? No! If he had chosen Nigeria the British press would surely decry their loss but I doubt if they get so gross and start cursing the young man and his lineage. No matter how wicked they are the fact is Iwobi and Ola Aina are still enjoying a good life in the UK notwithstanding their switch.
Tammy go and succeed jare. Roar like a Lion. The roaring of the Lions will never prevent the soaring of the Eagles. Let me convert an Igbo proverb for my use :let the Lion perch, let the Eagle also perch, the one that says taaaa to the other, let his paw or wings break. |

I talked about this same science many pages back, and I was laughed at. You are a great person/lawyer. In fact I like people who love to learn. Mujtahida: I took time out to read a little bit about tactical football and I was left scratching my heads. I was way out of my depths with what I read not from Coaches and technical directors oo but just bloggers and tactical aficionados. I guess if it were coaches say Mourinho or Pep, it would just be pure mathematics to me.
Football is deeper, deeper than what we see on the pitch. If we think that football is kicking the ball, dribbling, scoring goals we are mistaken. It has gone far beyond that. Football has become(regrettably to me oo) too scientific, too tactical. So much so that when our players leave Nigeria they'd have to unlearn so many things and learn anew the sciences that underpins modern football. I believe this is what is happening to Osimhen.
Is the science beyond our grasp of our local leagues? No but we simply do not have the facilities, the structure and frame to currently succeed at a high level. When are we going to have those facilities? We would have them when we have good, well equipped hospitals, good roads, constant electricity supply, clean, eco friendly cities, good schools. Our football will sink or rise with other aspects of our national life because our football is no more important than other sectors of our national life. So anybody saying we need good structures, good leagues for the sake of only our football should get realistic, go deeper and call for the total development of the Nigerian society. |
