Until Enyeama hangs his gloves it will still be a topic of convo whether u like it or not lol. safarigirl: |
yes people did. I was among those who believed having both Enyeama and Ikeme in the team is great and Alampasu as third choice. That way we are grooming him for the future. The younger keepers can also compete with Alampasu. How old is Akpeyi and Ezenwa? Those keepers won't get better. it's a waste of slot. safarigirl: |
Bafana Bafana Training On Playing With A Man Down Against Eagles – Coach Confesses Ahead of the Super Eagles of Nigeria clash against the senior national team of South Africa, coach of the team Stuart Baxter has confessed that his team are training on formations incase they have a player sent off. Baxter made the revelation upon arrival in Nigeria yesterday for the Saturday’s game which is the first step for both teams in the road to qualify for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations. The coach admits Nigeria will no doubt be a hard nut to crack, but he has prepared his team including the worst case scenario of having a player sent off during the course of the game. “I think we’ve just got to be braver and say‚ ‘Look‚ how do we deal with this game‚ how do we manage it?’. “There are certain things you can do. “But what you don’t want to do is just be there on the field and not have a plan. “We have dealt (in training) with a situation where we are leading. “Yesterday we put on a scenario where we were playing XI v XI in the afternoon and I sent one of the players off. “And I said‚ ‘Right‚ you’re leading 1-0‚ what do you do’. “We’ve appproached that and they did it very well yesterday. “We’ve approached how we would kill the game off if we were leading‚ and we’ve approached what we would do if we were chasing the game. “So we’ve got a couple of ‘what if’ scenarios‚and one of them is that last critical phase.” Ade Emmanuel http://owngoalnigeria.com/2017/06/08/bafana-bafana-training-on-playing-with-a-man-down-against-eagles-coach-confesses/ |

OPPONENT WATCH Bafana Update: Team Arrives In Nigeria Bafana Bafana arrived in Nigeria last night, where they will continue preparations ahead of their Africa Cup Of Nations qualifier on Saturday. The South African national team will lock horns with Nigeria at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium on Saturday, June 10, in the opening encounter of the AFCON qualifiers. Read more: Eric Tinkler Resigns As City Coach The South African Football Association’s president, Danny Jordaan, is confident that a good performance by Bafana on Saturday will set the tone for the rest of the country’s upcoming fixtures, the Chan and 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. “We need to qualify for Cameroon in 2019 and FIFA World Cup in Russia next year. We have a massive year ahead of us and a good showing in Uyo on Saturday would set the tone for the rest of this demanding year,” Jordaan said on SAFA’s official website. Head Coach Stuart Baxter also added that he is eager to frustrate the Nigerian side on Saturday, saying that his side respects the Super Eagles but ‘don’t fear anyone’. “We need to guard against them going at us in the opening minutes. If we manage to frustrate them, the crowd would become restless and that would be a big starting point,” Baxter said. “Respect yes, but we don’t fear anyone. I believe the secret to having a good result on Saturday would be to do things collectively; attack and defend as a unit.” http://www.soccerladuma.co.za/news/articles/categories/bafana/bafana-bafana-update-team-arrives-in-nigeria/270279 |

Exclusive: Ogu Battling Etebo For Midfield Spot; Rohr Goes For Chelsea's Omeruo Based on the Super Eagles last two training sessions, allnigeriasoccer.com's expert on ground in Uyo can report that Hapoel Beer Sheva's John Ogu is battling CD Feirense's Oghenekaro Etebo for the last spot in midfield, ahead of the African Cup of Nations qualifier against South Africa. Ogu played as a central defender in the last two training sessions but he was switching roles and popped up in midfield. While performing defensive duties, the 29-year-old was a ball-playing centre-back in the mould of Bayern Munich's Jerome Boateng and Manchester City's John Stones. Leicester City's Wilfred Ndidi and captain Eddy Onazi are untouchable, and it is believed that Etebo has the edge over Ogu in the fight for the remaining midfield spot because he has better attacking qualities, but the Israeli-based star can act as back-up to any of the these players. Manager Gernot Rohr appears to have settled for a central defense pairing of William Troost-Ekong and Kenneth Omeruo as the German played his strongest offensive players Iheanacho, Iwobi and Moses against the duo during the training game on Wednesday. The Intensity Of Super Eagles Training Is Scary – SA Journalist Confesses June 7, 2017 Nigeria IMG_3024 As the Super Eagles continue their build up to Saturday’s game against South Africa in the race to be at the 2019 AFCON, a journalist from the rainbow nation has given up on their chances. James Robert watched the Super Eagles high octane training session this morning at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, and according to him the level which the Eagles performed in today’s session should give his team a cause for concern. ” My brother I saw poetry in motion, they are swift in the way they play. The pace and the intensity is scary. I’m happy our team didn’t see today’s session else they would have given up like me”, he told Owngoalnigeria.com. ” I was of the opinion that will cause an upset in Uyo, but based on what I saw today, in my heart the game has been won and lost. Nigeria will no doubt win, we don’t have the quality to stand this intense style of play. It’s scary. ” We (South Africa) will one day get there but for now, we have to be say it the way it is. Nigeria are by far the better team at the moment. Anything can happen like they say in football, not in this case I think”. We may be about to witness a turning of a new chapter in Male tennis on the clay surface. Wait, but not yet. King of Clay, Rafael Nadal is still at the helm of affairs in this surface but his next opponent in Dominic Thiem may prove to just be his greatest rival on clay for three reasons. 1. Nadal's latest of two wins over the Austrian this year was a close one. 2. Thiem beat Nadal in their third meeting just last month in Rome IN STRAIGHT SETS. 3. Thiem just vanquished Novak Djokovic. Yes I chose the word vanquished intentionally. It was sweet revenge considering that he had lost to the Serb in Rome at the semis. This time he beat Djokovic in straight sets, winning the last set 6 to nil. NO wonder he is already called the prince of clay. Will he beat Nadal again in the Semi Final? Prior to the upcoming encounter, the duo have only met once at the French Open in 2014. That round 64 match was won by Nadal. It's 2017, Will this be another sweet revenge for Thiem. |
oh yes we are all speculating. I was just implying that other variables will come to bear in the final selection. kingphilip: |
I was waiting for somebody to jump on that. We are still waiting to hear the performance of Shehu and Ebuehi. What if Rohr does not see them as dependable ENOUGH to START on Saturday? As a coach, who would you draft there instead? kingphilip: |
Top Five Performance In Eagles Training – Ndidi Stars, Mu’azam, Omeruo & Ogu In Top Three Akwa United star forward Alhassan Ibrahim is making inroads with the senior national team of Nigeria , with the lanky forward putting up another strong performance in training today despite coming on after the session has started. Mu’azam replaced Uche Agbo few minutes into the session, and his abilities to pick out his man with well weighted passes even in tight situations earned him applause from the spectators who chanted “Kanu”, whenever he is on the ball. Kenneth Omeruo who had his first training session with the team paired William Troost-Ekong and put in a strong shift which frustrated Kelechi Iheanacho and Alex Iwobi, and to a large extent Oghenekaro Etebo. Omeruo was particularly impressive in winning tackles neatly and helping in turning defence into attack for his team, who were very much pack filled with players who are either new or freshers in the team. John Ogu picked up from where he stopped in yesterday’s session with another solid performance at the heart of the defence, as part of a back three with Chidozie Awaziem and Elderson Echiejile as his partners. Ogu was dominant in aerial duels, and picking out long range passes. His size also helped him barge players off the ball with minimal fuss despite playing in central defence as opposed to his original role as a defensive midfielder. Ahmed Musa is also proving that his poor form for Leicester City isn’t an issue as he was once again one of the liveliest players during the session with his pace proving to be the only problem Ogu had in defence. Wilfred Ndidi had a captain performance in the midfield dovetailing nicely with captain Ogenyi Onazi, with Onazi allowing him the space to push further up the pitch, where he can be deadly with his shooting abilities. lol.. what's your take on it then? I think I know what Rohr is doing. By the way OGN is just making their own deductions as well. tbaba1234: |
good one.. now let's make deductions from these reports as the story develops chrisooblog: |
How They Lined Up & Why Eagles Training Session Ended Goalless The training sessions of the Super Eagles is yet to produce a winner in training matches with today’s game ending nil all after yesterday’s clash that ended 1-1. Coach Gernot Rohr divided the players into two teams, and watched on as the players slug it out for shirts ahead of Saturday’s game against South Africa which will take place at the Godswil Akpabio Stadium. The reason for the goalless scoreline can’t be far fetched from the fact that the regular attackers of the team like Kelechi Iheanacho, Moses Simon, Alex Iwobi and Oghenekaro Etebo were up against defenders who are the preferred options for coach Gernot Rohr. For instance, Iwobi and Iheanacho were up against William Troost-Ekong and Kenneth Omeruo, while Ahmed Musa speed was put to test against vice captain Elderson Echiejile. They cancelled out each other during duels in the session as Rohr continue to build up the team’s pattern and fitness ahead of the Bafana Bafana clash. Here is how they lined up. Team A Dele Alampasu John Ogu Elderson Echiejile Chidozie Awaziem Shehu Abdullahi Wilfred Ndidi Ogenyi Onazi Alex Iwobi Oghenekaro Etebo Kelechi Iheanacho Moses Simon Team B Ikechukwu Ezenwa Maroof Youssef Mikel Agu Uche Agbo (Alhassan Ibrahim) Kenneth Omeruo William Troost-Ekong Tyronne Ebuehi Henry Onyekuru Ahmed Musa Olarewaju Kayode Victor Osimhen Osas Mahawi http://owngoalnigeria.com/2017/06/07/how-they-lined-up-why-eagles-training-session-ended-goalless/ |
Well yes. The focus now should be the match at hand. Even if they want to continue the 'fringe' players debate, why not do so as it has to do with preparation for the South Africa match? Abi will our argument help the case of Kayode and Osimhen in camp. They are already in camp. Let us monitor the 'trialists' versus the 'established' (with regard to your list). And maybe talk about our likely starting eleven. In fact i'm taking note of the line up that Rohr is drawing out during the training sessions and trying to make some deductions. I think it's fun to for us to have opinions of the likely starting line up, and then see what happens on Saturday. At least that argument will culminate into something tangible, than throwing endless tantrums which will end in notbody being right or wrong safarigirl: |
Eagles Training Day 2 : Ogu Shines As CB, Alhassan Dazzles, Akpeyi Dropped The Super Eagles rounded up their training on Wednesday ahead of this weekend's African Cup of Nations qualifier with a practice match between Team A and Team B, which ended goalless. The players were all wearing green tops at the start of training, but Team A had to wear blue training tops before the start of the practice game. You never know what is on Rohr's mind, as the German tactician deployed John Ogu as a central defender for the second straight day, and the Hapoel Beer Sheva star impressed in his new role, staying calm with or without the ball. Akwa United star Alhassan Ibrahim started the game on the bench, but replaced Watford midfielder Uche Agbo with 15 minutes remaining. The former Golden Eaglets and Flying Eagles star showed good skills and combined well with the strikers Kayode, Musa and Onyekuru. Chippa United goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi was not involved in the practice game, a big hint that Rohr is satisfied with his fitness and he'll start in goal against South Africa. Training ended around 1200 hours. Confirmed Lineups Team A (Blue) : Ezenwa, Omeruo, Troost, Maroof, Ebuehi, Mikel, Agbo (Alhassan), Osimhen, Kayode, Onyekuru,Musa Team B (Green) : Alampasu, Ogu, Awaziem, Echiejile, Shehu , Ndidi, Onazi, Etebo, Moses, Iwobi, Iheanacho Kekere Nkop in Uyo http://allnigeriasoccer.com/read_news.php?nid=23331 |
OPPONENT WATCH We have got to shut the crowd up in Nigeria‚ says Bafana coach Baxter Stuart Baxter says if Bafana Bafana can shut the crowd up in the first 20 minutes of Bafana Bafana's 2019 Africa Cup Nations qualifier against Nigeria in Uyo on Saturday‚ it will be advantage South Africa. Bafana meet Nigeria in their opening qualifier for Cameroon 2019 having never beaten their nemesis the Super Eagles in a competitive match. This will also be Baxter's first game in charge at the start of his second tenure as Bafana coach. "I think we've got to shut the crowd up. That's one of our big jobs‚" Baxter said ahead of his team's afternoon departure to overnight in Lagos‚ then flight to Uyo in central Nigeria on Thursday morning. "If we let the crowd get excited‚ and Nigeria enjoy the game‚ then I think that's going to be a big plus for them. "I think if we can turn that around and frustrate them a bit‚ and be better than they think‚ and have more to say than they think‚ then maybe the crowd could be a bit of a negative for them. "I think that's important. And maybe if Niegria could have chosen‚ they might not really have wanted to play us in the first game at home. "Because then there is the scenario that if they lose they're going to be under tremendous pressure from the beginning. "So we have to use that. With the mental part of the game‚ the boys have to feel that this is one where we can spoil the party a bit. We can make it difficult for Nigeria." Baxter said stifling Nigeria in the opening 20 minutes could be crucial for Bafana. "It will be big. The critical phases of the game are always important‚ and I think the first period in this game is a big one. "Because that will either bring the crowd into the game‚ or it will take them out a bit. "If the first 20 minutes are not what they had hoped‚ then immediately the crowd will make their displeasure felt‚ then they will be baying for blood. And I think that will be advantage us." The coach said Bafana's two draws against Nigeria - including having held a 2-0 lead in Uyo - in the qualifiers for Afcon 2015‚ which SA reached at the defending champions' expense‚ has helped chip away at the Eagles' psychological advantage. "I think that having been there and having gone through it‚ it gives the players a sense of calm. I don't think we fear Nigeria as much as respect them‚" the coach said. "The players have gone there‚ they've gone through the mill so to speak. "They're thinking that they have gone there‚ and maybe if they had hung on they could have gotten the result." Bafana and Nigeria are drawn with Seychelles and Libya in Group E. - TMG Digital/TMG Sport |
Eagles First Training : Arsenal Whizkid Stars, Alhassan Pushing For Starting Shirt Akwa United offensive all-rounder Alhassan Ibrahim is pushing for a starting shirt against South Africa, in what would be his competitive debut for the national team if that comes to pass, having impressed the coaching staff during the training session on Tuesday. Twenty players were divided into two groups, with Team A wearing green, while Team B suited up in orange. Alhassan played as a midfielder for Team B, he was all over the pitch, taking the ball out of defense before initiating attacks. The ex-Flying Eagle played more like a box-to-box midfielder. Teammate Alex Iwobi also sparkled, running between the defense and midfield to receive passes and distributed the ball perfectly. Manchester City's Kelechi Iheanacho seems to be the designated penalty taker, the striker successfully converted his penalty kick after Etebo was felled in the box. After the water break, Chippa United goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi replaced Ezenwa. The training ended around 1200 hours. Confirmed Lineups Team A : Ezenwa (Akpeyi) Troost-Ekong, Awaziem, Shehu, Maroof Yusuf, Onazi, Ndidi, Onyekuru, Kayode, Oshimen. Team B : Alampasu, Agbo, Ogu, Ebuehi, Alhassan, Etebo, Agu, Iwobi, Iheanacho, Moses Simon. Ifeanyi Emmanuel http://allnigeriasoccer.com/read_news.php?nid=23325 |

Ok he is from Edo state. Kog45: |
ok kayode is in camp. goldfish80: |
Onazi will keep getting invites until he is overshadowed in camp by one these newbies. That's how it works. Onazi is already part of the winning set up. It will be impossible to ignore players shinning in big clubs. However they will still have to fit in to Rohrs tactics. ChrisKels: |
Nice move. In fact I love the competition in the SE. Esiti will have to wait to get another chance. ChrisKels: |
Right! Because it is in camp tht the coach instils his own tactics. If you can't measure up to his winning philosophy you will be phased out. TheGoodJoe: |
