So you will start an out of form Iwobi ahead of an in-form Moses Simon as Left Winger? I'm using Iwobi as an example because we have seen him in that state in the recent past. AIG07: we have very few of them...
Balogun Mikel Ndidi(he is showing some glimpses) Etebo(highly under-rated) Iwobi Victor Moses and Iheanacho.
These are the few I rate above the rest in the SE's. |

I respect your approach in this argument TheGoodJoe: From the best of my knowledge, Awaziem lost his place at Porto after Lopetegui lost his job at Porto. Lopetegui is a Spanish tactician who favors a high possessive style of play. This kind of style requires ball playing defenders and that was why Awaziem who is a gifted and cofirmed baller got the role.
Lopetegui is the current coach of the Spanish national team and his departure from Porto led to a transition in style of play which did not require Awaziem's talent.
From reports, Rohr prefers Ball playing defenders and has drills to pick the best. That is why it is favoring Awaziem and Awaziem might most likely get the nod. A player like Awaziem helps Rohr implement his philosophy holistically. |

Agu may be the joker. If he clearly outshines Onazi in camp, Rohr won't hesitate to start him. TheGoodJoe: I will have the best talent over the most tested untalented player. Why do you think Guardiola was confident throwing a bench warming Pique into the starting line-up of Barcelona?
If Onazi comes to camp and Agu brings more to the team during training, Agu will get my nod.
Football is dynamic. All players must be on their toes to maintain their place in the team. |

Honestly I've been thinking Musa's demotion even from his sub status was long overdue. But Rohr have been keeping faith in him with invitations. Only Rohr knows why. Musa has proved he still has something in him. He will play against South Africa. His new wife has nothing to do with it. But Wahala for house fit affect player if the player is the kind when no fit put behind home matter when he dey go work. Make we no judge he family matter. All we hear Na dem say. safarigirl: I doubt Musa had this in mind when he replaced his old firewood with a new one, and majority here seemed to agree the new firewood was performing wonders.
Maybe the new firewood will catch against SA like the wonders this new one in Musa's life is doing for him |

You are the gold fish in my aquarium goldfish80: My realistic starting line-up for South Africa.
. . . . . . . Akpeyi. . . . Omeruo. . . . . Awaziem. . . . . Ekong. . . Elder . . . . . Onazi. . . . . . Ndidi. . . . . . . . . . . . . Etebor. . . Musa/Simon. . . . Iheanacho. . . . Iwobi
............. I see Omeruo starting at Rb. Rohr seems not to trust Shehu enough and he wouldn't want to make so many changes in the defence that played the last qualifiers. I see just one change in Awaziem who is more or less a like for like replacement of Balogun. I read sometime ago in an interview Awaziem granted which he attested that Balogun have been a big influence on his game.
Etebor will likely play behind Iheanacho because he is more of a goal threat in such areas while Iwobi works from the flanks.
Impact subs could be Kayode Olarenwaju and Muzam. While Ogu subs in for to secure the match from the middle if we have a lead going into the last 10-5mins |

Thank you. The context is SE. Please can you list the classy ones in our fold? AIG07: here, class equates to talent simply innate ability.
For a player to be 'proven' he must have had some share numbers of professional football matches(appearances) under his belt-simple. Such player can be average, good or exceptional but he is alreaded tested and tried... So he is no longer a rookie(unproven). |

Thank you Oga. I'm only curting him a slack at RB because at least Rohr started him there again against Senegal despite his past errors. komekn: Simply put it would be a disaster Omeruo is a traditional defender and very far off from being a top defender at that.
He is not a baller even playing as RB exposes his limitations. |
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 9:45pm On Jun 02, 2017 |
firstly, what is even class to you? I'm assuming you mean proven. Is the argument proven vs unproven at international level? AIG07: class without form can make a player look rusty but never average or ordinary.
That is why I'm not always move to the extent of clamouring for a call up when a seasoned player just pop out from no where and start scoring goals/performing. Personally when it comes to international football I'll always root for class ahead of form. But when it comes to club football I'll stick to your assertions since it is week in week out football and your form matters...
*Modified* Sir, a player with class will always have something to offer even if he is not in form. Don't forget being in form is playing at ur topmost level which makes an ordinary player look exceptional. Ighalo is an example. But class separates the men from boys anyday anytime.
Even the best sometimes loose form but yet it doesn't take away anything from them-they'll always be back so class is inbuilt.
But the question we need to ask is this: What is the probability of a classic player loosing and gaining form? Or why do u think most coaches stick to this category of players no matter their present form. |

Sir, Class without form is Wetin? You cannot show class when you are not in form. Granted I will always start a player that has class(which has been proven over time) and is in form, ahead of an unproven player though also in form. AIG07: I get you Sir. You know form is temporary. But don't forget Class is PERMANENT. That is why a national team shouldn't be build around form Alone unless you want to be changing players like underwears... |

Team building is continuous. Else Rohr would have focused only on our full backs for options. Besides the so called back up player is not meant as a replacement only when the starter is injured or absent. The regular starter may either drop in form or his inferior may become the superior. These things are not permanent. AIG07: Sir Icon4s and other few must have caught the sarcasm intended!
I'm just trying to help a friend out. I only clamour for the 'best' which I only do once in a bluemoon cos the best are always scarce. |

I'm not saying I will do that for these matches coming up. I'm just speaking generally as a coach that's what I will do -- test my players in some positions if they have certain qualities. Of course timing is always the essence. But I have already stated my reasons. Clementoke: It didn't kill Mikel nd Omeruo because that was at club level. They have got all the time in the world to experiment. But trying it at national team level would be suicidal when you have about 5 days to prepare for matches I support Awaziem nd Ekong against SA. Omeruo gets me scared |

oga. Omeruo is my tribesmen. I'm far from being a tribalist. And I've never hated on any player, Nigerian or not. The truth is Balogun and Ekong are relatively new to the team compared to Omeruo. Today, he has been displaced from the Center back role. TRUE OR FALSE.. so what is your claim? That Rohr have been looking for back ups for Omeruo in the Right Back abi center back, since you call him the backbone of our defense line.. Abi is it because Balogun is injured? Let's say it as it is oh, don't let the devil dance..lol Icon4s: Kai! but you said better replacements. Abi I no understand grammar again?
If you are talking about backups that is exactly what the coaches have been arranging even with the French camp.
This Omeruo you guys are condemning is a serious back bone of that defense.
I am telling you that he is highly favored to start against SA hate him or love him. Awaziem has only recently proven that he is a good back up in the absence of our regular CBs.
Abdullahi Shehu is our best RB currently in the team. Take that to Aso Rock.
Victor Osimhen, Rohr has said is being groomed for the future. I respect that decision even though I don't completely buy it. |

Onyekuru Confirms Interest From Arsenal, Club Legend Henry Is His IdolNewly capped Nigeria national-teamer Henry Onyekuru has confirmed that Arsenal are among the teams interested in his signature in the summer transfer window, and is hopeful of making a decision on his next step after the African Cup of Nations qualifier against South Africa. The Eupen frontman has professed his love for the Gunners, adding that club legend Thierry Henry is his idol. ''Thierry Henry has always been my idol since I was a kid. I was watching him play, watching Arsenal and going to YouTube to watch most of his games,'' Onyekuru told thenff.com. ''I remember saying if I had to move to the Premier League I want to be like Thierry Henry, so it's likely to come true and I'm looking towards it at the moment. ''It is a good feeling a club like Arsenal are coming, it shows the hard work I did at Eupen. I am waiting and working towards it and we'll see how it goes after the qualifiers.'' Born and brought up in Lagos but from Imo State, Onyekuru joined Aspire Academy in 2011 after he was scouted, before moving to Eupen two years ago. Who says? It won't kill him. It didn't kill Mikel. Playing Omeruo as a defensive midfielder didn't kill him.. I'm just saying as a coach I will experiment him there in training to see if he excels. I may want to start the trio of Onazi, Agu and Ndidi. Also, prepare for situations in future when players get injured in a tournament for example, and you don't have great options. forgiveness: Mikel Agu should be left alone in his preferred role. |

Are you being sarcastic? Every player untested have to be tested regardless of how good they are at club level. Their ability to imbibe the coach's playing philosophy and ease at which they can blend into the team is paramount. Hence we have friendlies and training camps. However, sometimes you have to start from somewhere like Rohr did. I remember Bryan Efe of spotkik mentioned luck as one of the reasons for Rohr's success. yes every coach need some amount of luck. Bryan Efe said our early opponents failed to exploit our weaknesses at the full back positions. That's one area if we dont fix well before Cameroon, we will be made to pay dearly. I've studied Cameroon, and noticed they like wing play and they come with power. The likes of Ebuehi have no business in that tie. AIG07: can I help him Sir?
Abduljelil Ajagun, Mickael Olaitan, Babatunde Michael, Rahmon Azeez, Sammy Ameobi, Dominic Solanke(if not for the ongoing u-20WC). Make I stop here... He'll come to point out the rest. |

Yes and we have demonstrated we can fight back as well. AIG07: One thing I'm loving about this team is that: they've been taking their chances early into the matches they've played so far. It's unlike before when we will be waiting for the magical feet who wil come-in in the second half to bail us out. Most job have always been done and dusted in the 1st half.
Good job once again Coach Rohr. Thanks for this paradigm shift in our national team... |

@ Icon4s Already said this earlierNo I was just trying to highlight the aspect of chemistry between the CB pair. I will have to study both defenders more closely to know what roles they mostly play, and the duties they mostly perform, when paired against player A or player B. But again there is a high expectation for this pair to play for each other because they stand the closest in front of the goalie. Let's not also forget that there is the coach instruction factor. So of course, these defenders in question will have their strengths and weaknesses in terms of how well they can perform the various duties as instructed. chrisooblog: ok I think from instructional you pasted you are suggesting that ekong and omeruo are similar in style of play that is they are both 'stoppers' and awaziem who plays like a limited Defender or Central Defender is a better foil for ekong who is in better form than Kenneth. I see your point but I'm not yet sure awaziem is 100 percent ready. Ekong himself he's not that experienced to guide awaziem if he was partnered with Leon I would have no worries but anyway let's see how it goes |
