Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign States of Biafra, MASSOB, has accused President Muhammadu Buhari of playing games with Ndigbo with his claims that he is not marginalizing the bloc. Recall that Buhari had during the presidential media chat denied marginalizing Ndigbo, stressing that they hold strategic positions in his cabinet including the Petroleum and Labour ministries and the Governor of the Central Bank. The group which reacted to Buhari’s claims that Ndigbo are not marginalized , but occupy strategic offices in his cabinet, insisted that despite Buhari’s denials, there has been deliberate attempts by the federal government to scheme out Ndigbo in the top echelon of power in Nigeria. In statement made available to Vanguard, MASSOB through its National Director of Information, Sunny Okereafor, queried the basis of Buhari’s claims of not marginalizing Ndigbo when he ensured that key position in his administration went only to the core North. “President Buhari’s is being economical with the truth with his claim that Ndigbo are not marginalized in Nigeria. How can Buhari ask who is marginalizing Ndigbo and to what extent? Does he want us to remind him that all the key and strategic position in his administration are being held by the core North? If not that the Constitution guarantees that a ministerial nominee must be appointed from each state, no Igbo man would have been appointed a minister. In Buhari’s Nigeria, there are now certain positions which are no go areas for Ndigbo. “We have always said it that Ndigbo have no future in Nigeria and have been made second class citizens in a country that they are major stakeholders. This is why we want Biafra. Biafra is the answer to the marginalization of Ndigbo in Nigeria.” MASSOB insisted that the cries of marginalization of Ndigbo and the struggle to actualize an independent state of Biafra has heightened during Buhari’s administration due to what it described as hatred for Ndigbo. <[url: http://www.primeviewsng.com]>

Does this not sound like placing religion above security and safety of the citizenry? |
The Presidency has dismissed the insinuations that the Federal Government had banned the use of Hijab, the Muslim women’s dressing symbol of modesty. Vanguard reports that this position was contained in a statement issued in Abuja on Friday by the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the President, Malam Garba Shehu. Giving a clarification on the pronouncement of the President on the issue during last Wednesday’s Presidential Media Chat, Shehu said that the speculations were unfounded. He said that the Buhari-led Federal Government would always respect the rights of Muslims to protect their modesty and allow religious freedom. Shehu said that the Hijab was being abused by terrorists to carry out suicide attacks on innocent people, which violated the teachings of Islam. He, however, said that Buhari would not take any decision on the issue without due consultation with all the stakeholders. He said that the government would address the security challenge in consultations with Muslim leaders with a view to finding a workable solution. “Everything will be done to balance national security requirements with the rights and obligations of citizens under their religions as protected by the constitution,’’ he said. <[url: http://www.primeviewsng.com]>

Love from HELL! |
IT'S one of the ultimate relationship taboos - falling in love with a member of your own family. But two brave women have come forward to confess they're romantically entangled with their own first cousins - and have even had babies with them. The topic is the subject of the latest episode of MTV’s True Life. Alexis, 20, of Charleston, South Carolina, is engaged to her cousin Andrew and six months pregnant with his baby (she also has a 2-year-old from another father). He’s been in jail for the past five months for burglary, and she is trying to raise enough money to bail him out. But their family, who disapproves of their relationship, is reluctant to help. Her relationship is dealt another blow when she finds out Andrew may have cheated on her. “Even if we do break up, I’m still going to see this man everywhere I go, at every family event,” she says. “I didn’t t Adding insult to injury, the judge denies Andrew’s bail bond and sentences him to a six-year term — meaning he misses the birth of their daughter. Meanwhile, Grace, 23, is married to her cousin Dylan, 24, and they have two daughters (ages 3 and 18 months) together. Though they didn’t know each other growing up, they have been outcasts from their family since getting married (her mom and stepdad were the only two people to attend the wedding from her side). hink I’d be going through this with somebody in my own family.” Grace’s brother has disowned her, and when they show up to her niece’s 3rd birthday party uninvited, they aren’t let in. “It was definitely a slap in the face, and one that I won’t forget, ever,” she says. Tired of being ostracized, the couple decides to move across the country from Cedar Hill, Tennessee, to LA, where they hope their unconventional relationship will be accepted. After an eventful drive west (their car breaks down outside of Phoenix and they’re forced to pawn their TV to pay for a motel), their new California life proves to be short-lived — they run out of money after just two weeks and are forced to return to Tennessee, where they are still trying to make amends with their family. <[url: http://www.primeviewsng.com]>

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has revealed his prophesies for 2016, predicting that a new sexually transmitted disease will emerge during the year. The cleric also prophesied that things would get worse in the country before they improve, while on the international scene more natural disasters will occur. Below are the prophecies which were published on his websites: Prophesies for Nigeria 1. Things are likely to get tougher, before they get better, but things will definitely get better before the year ends. 2. What He (God) started last year, he will finish this year, provided we don’t rejoice too soon. International prophesies 1. Natural disasters, floods, fires, earthquakes, are likely to get progressively worse, until governments realise that these are part of divine judgment against those who have unholy laws. If governments will repent of disdaining Christ and his church, he will help them win the fight against terrorism. 2. A major war will be averted this year. 3. A new sexually transmitted disease will surface. For individuals 1. Some families will trace the beginning of their generational blessings to this year. 2. Some will receive help from unexpected sources. 3. Grateful hearts will have more causes to be grateful. 4. For many, the pendulum of life in generally on the upward swing now, a chosen few will receive blessings so large they can hardly contain. <[url: http://www.primeviewsng.com]>

A RUSSIAN man who dropped dead during a boozy session with his mates woke up in the morgue and headed to his wake to continue drinking. The shocking story emerged in local Russian paper Khasanskiye Vesti last Tuesday. According to eye witnesses the man, whose name and age is unknown, suddenly keeled over in front of his companions after knocking back several glasses of vodka. Police and paramedics were called to the scene where the man was declared dead and taken to a mortuary. But while lying in the freezing room, the man suddenly 'rose from the dead' and rushed to the exit. Alexey Stoev, security officer of the criminal investigation, explained: "That night, the local morgue was filled to capacity. "The bodies were not only on the shelves, but also on the floor of the freezer, where our dead hero lay. "At some point, the man woke up and did not understand where he was. "It was very dark and cold. "Plus his brain was fogged by the alcohol. "In the darkness, he felt the cold extremities of someone and in fear rushed to the door. "But it was locked." Stoev told how a female employee at the morgue was terrified when the man banged on the door "with all his might" in an attempt to free himself. She eventually convinced skeptical police officers to come in to release the "corpse" and the man promptly made his way to his wake to join his friends. According to reports, the pal who greeted him fainted with shock at seeing his dead comrade, but before long the men were back to their boozy ways. <[url: http://www.primeviewsng.com]>

A BRAVE survivor of ISIS brutality has spoken out about the daily horrors she was subjected to by members of the sick terror group. Nadia Murad, 21, was captured by ISIS fighters in her home town of Sinjar in Northern Iraq before being sold into sexual slavery. Miss Murad is from the Yazidi community, who are considered to be infidels by ISIS jihadis. Thousands of Yazidi women have been taken from their homes by ISIS barbarians and sold into sexual slavery, and Miss Murad had the bravery to speak out at Cairo University in Egypt about her ordeal. She told students at the university: “When Daesh (the Arabic name for ISIS) entered my village, they killed children, the old and young men. "The "In Mosul, I saw thousands of Yazidi women where they were distributed to their slave masters. "There I saw a huge Daeshi, who wanted to take me. I implored to another man to take me instead when I saw he was smaller, but he turned out later to be one of the worst people I’ve ever seen.” Miss Murad, who also spoke about her horrific experiences to the United Nations, also said ISIS militants “used to force captives to pray and then rape us.” The next day, they killed the old women and led the young girls, including me, to Mosul. She added: "We were not worth the value of animals. They raped girls in groups. They did what a mind could not imagine. "I am the victim of terrorism disguised under the cloak of Islam. All these crimes are committed in the name of Islam. I’ve come to the Muslim world to complain and demand an Arab and Islamic stance against Daesh. “No religion accepts enslaving women and raping children. We have the right to demand a united global stance because we share others’ values of humanity." Wolverhampton Wanderers goalkeeper Carl Ikeme may be facing a new hurdle following reports the struggling Championship side are busy scouring the market for another keeper. Wolves occupy the 11th position in the second tier of English football’s standings, with goalkeeping duo Ikeme and Emiliano Martinez getting a lot of stick for errors. Ikeme, who has been impressive for the Super Eagles, played second fiddle to on-loan Arsenal’s Martinez until the Argentine was sidelined by a knee injury last month. The 29-year-old Nigeria custodian has made 11 starts for the Kenny Jackett’s side in the absence of Martinez, who is expected to return to action next month. But reports on Tuesday claimed promotion-seeking Wanderers had joined the race to sign Manchester United keeper Sam Johnstone in the January transfer window. The 22-year-old England junior international began the season as deputy to Argentina keeper Sergio Romero but was demoted and sent to Preston on loan after David De Gea signed a new four-year deal with the Red Devils in September. According to HITC, the England Under-20 team star’s coming will spark competition for a starting spot in Wolves’ goalkeeping department if the Wanderers eventually sign Johnstone. Meanwhile, out-of-favour Nigeria winger Victor Moses is expected to return to action from the injury he sustained during West Ham’s goalless draw with Manchester United (at Old Trafford on December 5) against Liverpool at Upton Park on Saturday. West Ham manager Slaven Bilic also said Dimitri Payet and Winston Reid could make their return against the Reds. “Hopefully some of the players will be back now, against Liverpool,” talksport quoted Billic as saying on Tuesday. “Payet, Reidy, Moses. It’s only Diafra Sakho who we will be without for another four or five weeks.” The former Croatia manager added, “I want to (Click on the link below to read more) <[url: http://www.primeviewsng.com]>

A five-month-old baby has been reportedly killed and several others injured after an official of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority attempted to arrest a commercial bus driver for violating the traffic law around the Awoyokun end of Ikorodu Road. The yet-to-be-identified culprit was said to be among a team of traffic officials from the LASTMA’s Anthony office. PUNCH Metro gathered that the bus driver had picked up a passenger by the roadside when the officials began trailing the vehicle. One of the LASTMA officials was said to have jumped into the front seat in a bid to arrest the driver. It was learnt that the driver, whose vehicle was filled with passengers, continued driving in a bid to evade arrest. Our correspondent was told that in the ensuing struggle, the LASTMA official allegedly pulled out the ignition key as the bus crashed into a stationary refuse truck. A witness, who did not identify himself, said the incident happened at about 12pm. He said, “The driver was caught picking a passenger on the road and the LASTMA officials pursued him. They caught up with him and one of them quickly jumped into the bus and told the driver to give him the key. The driver refused and continued driving. The LASTMA officer started fighting for the control of the steering with him. Before we knew what was going on, the LASTMA man removed the key from the ignition. At this point, the bus rammed into a refuse truck.” A commercial driver, Sola Adeyemo, said the impact of the collision flung out many of the passengers, some of whom sustained fractures. “They broke their hands and legs. It was a serious accident. Even the bus driver was injured. A few of them were laid on the road. Those that sustained the most injuries were those by the door. A woman was critically injured and it will be a miracle if she survived it,” he added. It was learnt that the LASTMA official responsible for the accident was equally injured. A witness, who captured the official extricating himself from the bus, said he limped out. He said, “He climbed out while we were trying to save the lives of the passengers and the driver. He stood on top of the bus and then jumped on the refuse truck. From there, he jumped over a nearby fence and ran away.” All the victims were reportedly taken to the casualty ward of the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Igbobi, Lagos. An official said the hospital’s Chief Medical Director was not available. However, some officials at the casualty ward confirmed that a baby was killed. One of them said, “Some people were brought here and they sustained injuries. Immediately they came, they were attended to and those whose injuries were not serious left. “The mother of the child who died was brought here and she was treated. The baby’s remains were taken away by the family.” The LASTMA Public Relations Officer, Mamud Hassan, denied that any life was lost, adding that the driver of the bus was the architect of the crash. He said, “The commercial bus driver is a serial traffic law violator. He had been warned several times and he did not cease his habit. On Monday, he did it again and our officials gave him the opportunity to drop the passengers at the nearest bus stop before they tried to take his vehicle into LASTMA yard, but in his desperate attempt to escape, he continued driving and making calls to his friends to come and deal with the officials. “It was in his desperation to escape that he rammed the bus into a stationary truck. About three people sustained minor injuries, which included the official, the driver, and one other passenger. “No life was lost. Drivers and motorists should please assist us to do our jobs. If any of our officials are caught doing anything wrong, they will be punished.” The Police Public Relations Officer, Joe Offor, confirmed the incident, which was reported at the Ilupeju Police division. A merchandise seller is already planning for the exit of Louis Van Gaal by selling United scarves with Jose Mourinho on them, just outside Old Trafford. Van Gaal is under pressure and desperately searching for his first win after a run of four straight defeats in all competitions. Mourinho, meanwhile, has been heavily tipped to replace the Dutchman, although his agent claimed on Tuesday that no talks have taken place. “Right now he’s in Brazil, we’ll see what happens when he gets back,” Jorge Mendes told Sky Sport. “At the moment we haven’t been talking about England, Spain or Italy. <[url: http://www.primeviewsng.com]>

He said the injured had been taken to hospital while the military had cordoned off the area. The brigade commander said the situation had been brought under control. <[url: http://www.primeviewsng.com]>

Seventy-five-year-old Beatrice Oyesolu, the mother of twin brothers shot dead on Saturday by a trigger-happy policeman guarding Paulson Hotel on Anibaba Street, Ketu-Ikosi, Lagos, says the promises her children made to her had been shattered. The septuagenarian said the children ─ Taiye, a naval officer and Kehinde, an engineer ─ had concluded plans to start building her a house next month before the tragedy struck. The twin brothers, aged 34, who hailed from Oro, Kwara State, were bachelors. The drunken policeman, Stephen James, with Force number 217884, had opened fire on the brothers and their friend, Jeje, who was celebrating his birthday on the fateful day. The trio had cautioned him to stop harassing customers, who reportedly declined to buy him bottles of beer. James, said to be a drug addict and notorious for shooting sporadically, killed the twins and their friend before he shot himself dead. It took entreaties from residents around the hotel to stop the angry mob who wanted to set the facility on fire. Sympathisers thronged a house in the community, where the twins’ mother, who lived in Mile 12, was brought to. The sympathisers rallied round her as she cried uncontrollably. She said, “I just came back from church yesterday when they broke the news of their death to me. The government should help me because Taiye and Kehinde were the only hope I have. I have been stripped naked because they are my clothes. Who will I turn to now? “They promised me a lot of things next year. They wanted to start building a house on my parcel of land next month. This is the seventh month after the death of their father.” A relative, who did not want his name in print, demanded that the police should be made to compensate the mother of the deceased. He said, “Why was he given a gun when they knew he was a drunk? The police must be sued. They should also pay compensation to the mother.” The aunt of the deceased, Mrs. Afusat Salaudeen, said the death was a big loss to the entire family. She said, “They were very caring. They were the ones sponsoring their elder brother’s son who is in a polytechnic. That brother had been missing for 10 years now. They were easy-going persons.” Beatrice’s sister, identified only as Iya Ijesha, said, “They were God-fearing children. They never let their mother lack anything.” A resident around the hotel, Segun Elphus, said the policeman nearly killed his friends and three of his younger brothers last month. He said he advised the supervising manager of the hotel to send James away. He said, “The policeman was posted here about three months ago. He threatened to kill my friends, who visited me from England last month. My three younger brothers intervened. He nearly shot them. “Yesterday, he was drunk. Jeje was outside the hotel smoking and he told him to leave. They were still on it when he shot him. Taiye tried to approach him; he shot him. He shot Kehinde while he was fleeing. Another resident, Dele, said the fatalities would have been more if he was allowed to enter the hotel. He said, “After he had killed the three guys, he wanted to enter the hotel premises, but the gate had been locked from inside. He was frustrated and shot himself. Sometime when he was drunk, he would say ‘I go kill 30 people, I go kill myself…no case.’” A neighbour of the deceased on Dairo Street, Johnson Adebola, said they lived in the same flat and were friendly. “Jeje sold foodstuffs in Mile 12. His parents live in Ijebu, Ogun State. They were four that went to the hotel yesterday. The fourth person, Shola, was lucky to escape. They were actually waiting for Shola’s girlfriend who just arrived in Lagos when the incident happened,” he added. The hotel was under lock and key as of 3pm on Sunday when one of our correspondents left the area. The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Fatai Owoseni, during a visit to the scene of the crime on Sunday condemned the act of the late officer, saying it betrayed the ethics preached by the Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase. Owoseni, who also visited the family of the victims, said investigation was ongoing to ascertain whether the late policeman who committed the dastardly act was on authorised duty at the hotel or not. He said, “The incident is a devastating one and it is normal for me to visit the scene of the crime. It is also important to see the family of the victims. The IG is aware and saddened by the development. The action of the killer-cop negates what the IG preaches about. The IG has said policemen should not be posted to unauthorised places. The action of the cop negates all of that. “As a measure to prevent occurrences like this, we have always put up (Click on the link below to read more) <[url: http://www.primeviewsng.com]>

An unidentified middle-aged man was electrocuted on Sunday while trying to steal an electric cable at a power installation point in Kaduna. The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the incident happened on Accra Crescent by LEA Primary School, Unguwar Rimi. The traditional ruler of the area, Dan Iyar Unguwar Rimi, Alhaji Muhammad Gidado, said the corpse of the vandal was taken from the scene by policemen from the Unguwar Rimi division. He said the vandal was unknown in the area and urged law enforcement agencies to increase patrol, adding that the community had suffered from the activities of vandals lately. Gidado said, “The man tried to steal the 150mm four core up-riser cable at the distribution sub-station on Accra Crescent when he was electrocuted.” The Head, Corporate Communications of Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company, Mr. Abdulazeez Abdullahi, appealed to customers of the company to be more vigilant and report suspicious movement around power supply installations to the police. The terrorist sect, Boko Haram has left people in troubled Maiduguri anxious and frightened after unleashing female suicide bombers on the Borno State capital. Over 60 persons have been killed in attacks by the insurgents in the last 24 hours on the town. Many of the attacks were from female suicide bombers smuggled by the insurgents into the town after confrontations with the military believed to be a decoy. A member of youth vigilance group who spoke anonymously to our correspondent, noted that the armed confrontations of the sect with the military was nothing but diversionary as the main plan was to smuggling female suicide bombers into the troubled town. He said there were diversionary attacks at Alidawari and Jiddari Polo areas on Sunday evening. He explained at Alidawari, the military engaged the terrorists in an attack where four corpses were initially seen on Sunday night. He, however, said that nine other corpses were found in surrounding bushes on Monday morning. He said most of those killed are believed to be residents of the area fleeing the troubled spot but were felled by strayed bullets. The source said the insurgents struck again on Sunday at about 7:30pm at Jiddari Polo, during which they attacked a local beer parlour which they burnt down after killing two persons. He said they moved from the beer parlour to a house which they razed and killed its residents, an entire family. They left the house with the car of the owner of the razed building, but were pushed back by the military during which nine persons were killed in the attack where RPGs were deployed. He said, “In what I believe was the main purpose of their (insurgents) siege on Maiduguri, a female suicide bomber killed two persons when she detonated a bomb strapped on her.” He also said there was another attack on Sunday at Isari village behind the Maiduguri NNPC Mega Filling Station where two female suicide bombers that pretended they were fleeing from insurgency attacks detonated bombs which killed 19 persons. He said, “Two female suicide bombers ran into households in Isari as if they were fleeing from attacks in part of the town, detonated bombs that killed nineteen other persons.” He lamented that the attacks extended to Monday morning with two female suicide bombers approaching a group of men warming up themselves from a bonfire set at the residence of a local chief (Bulama). He said, “About 40 persons were killed by two female suicide bombers who ran into them at Sulemanti ward within Polo area at the residence of the Bulama beside a mosque warming up themselves with fire they set up.” In a statement by the Media Coordinator of Operation Lafiya Dole, Col. Mustapha Anka, the military said it had intercepted and destroyed 10 suspected Boko Haram suicide bombers on the outskirts of Maiduguri. The statement read in part, “Contrary to earlier media reports and rumours flying around, two Boko Haram terrorists suspected suicide bombers earlier intercepted by vigilant troops disclosed their colleagues’ intent to enter the city with the aim of detonating bombs in selected public places. “Consequently, the troops laid ambush on the terrorists suspected routes along Damboa road and eliminated them. The suicide bombers were intercepted in three different locations approaching the city; Ajiri area towards Damboa road, High Court axis and the Eye Hospital Area. “The Explosive Ordinance Device team have been mobilised and they are combing the general area as well as clearing the debris. Normalcy has been restored to the general area and the public are please advised to go about their normal businesses and social activities. However, it is important to maintain more vigilance and security consciousness.” Our correspondents could however (Click on the link below to read more) <[url: http://www'primeviewsng.com]>

THE super wealthy Sultan of Brunei has cancelled Christmas, threatening those who celebrate with jail or hefty fines. Muslim citizens of the small oil-rich country have been banned from putting up Christmas trees, singing carols and sending Christmas cards amid fears it could lead its 420,000-strong population astray. Christians and other non-Muslims have been permitted to celebrate, but must do so behind closed doors and any Muslim caught celebrating Christmas faces up to five years in jail or a £13,500 fine. At least 65 per cent of Brunei's population are Muslims. In a statement the country’s Ministry of Religious Affairs said: “These enforcement measures are... intended to control the act of celebrating Christmas excessively and openly, which could damage the aqidah (beliefs) of the Muslim community.” Officials are reported to have patrolled business districts to ensure they are not displaying any festive decorations or banners. Christians and other non-Muslims have been permitted to celebrate, but must do so behind closed doors and keep their plans a secret from other faiths. Speaking to the Borneo Bulletin, some imams said: “Some may think that it is a frivolous matter and should not be brought up as an issue. “But as Muslims... we must keep it [following other religions' celebrations] away as it could affect our Islamic faith.” Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, who has ruled the former British colony for nearly 50 years, introduced the ban on Christmas in 2014, the same year Brunei adopted a stricter penal code, based on Islamic sharia and including punishments such as stoning and amputation. The ban has seen a backlash among some Brunei residents who have posted pictures of their Christmas celebrations to Twitter as part of wider social media campaign #MyTreedom which encourages religious freedom. <[url: http://www.primeviewsng.com]>

The Federal Government has blamed the lingering fuel scarcity across the country on the poor management of the subsidy regime by the immediate past administration of President Goodluck Jonathan. Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, while briefing journalists on the outcome of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting said the inability of the past government to adequately make provision for subsidy payment has caused the current fuel crisis. FEC met yesterday to consider the 2016 apprpriation bill, which is expected to be presented by President Muhammadu Buhari today to a joint session of the National Assembly. Mohammed told reporters that the mishandling of the fuel importation strategy by the last administration in a defective manner pushed the country into the present fuel scarcity. According to him, “What I will be telling Nigerians about fuel situation is that what we met on ground is such that we are paying for the sins of the last administration.” He recalled that a fortnight ago, the Buhari administration presented a supplementary budget before the National Assembly of N674 billion, out of which, N522 billon was used to pay outstanding arrears of fuel subsidy incurred as far back as August last year. Mohammed said: “So one of the reasons there is still fuel scarcity was the inability of the last government to make adequate provision for the fuel subsidy. Now yes, we do face other logistics problems, but majorly, we are paying for the sins of the last administration. “The solution is the strategy the Buhari administration is adopting. The first thing is to make sure that unlike before, when the marketers used to import the major percentage of the product, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has been involved in importation because some of the marketers have ceased importing the products in the last couple of months. “If you see any fuel anywhere today, it was imported by the NNPC. Of course, the problem we also inherited, which is the vandalism of the pipelines, has made it impossible for us to even transport the fuel.” He said the council deliberated on two major items including the 2016 budget and a memo from the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN) seeking to review the current tax policy of the country. Speaking on the proposed review of the tax law, the Minister of Budget and National Planning, Senator Udoma Udo Udoma, explained that government intends to strengthen the existing tax laws to block loopholes and boost its earnings. “It is basically looking at the taxation laws and trying to look at the policies behind them and see whether any of them needs strengthening, that was it. It is a review to see where there are gaps, or if there were any aspect if it that requires strengthening. “It is also because there were some inadequacies observed in the present tax regime, and these lapses have been exploited by both individuals and corporate organisations towards remitting taxes that has led to loss of revenue to the government. So, the new tax review is aimed at plugging these loopholes,” Udoma said. Udoma, who declined to give details of the planned review, said it would be (Click on the link below to read more) <[url: http://www.primeviewsng.com]>

Justice Lateef Lawal- Akapo of an Ikeja High Court has sentenced a court registrar, Mrs. Oluronke Idowu Rosulu to 20 years imprisonment for defrauding a former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Ishaya Bamaiyi of $330,000 over a non-existent business. Rosulu who until arraignment was a registrar with the Lagos judiciary, was convicted by Justice Akapo for her role in the $330,000 fraud perpetrated against Bamaiyi alongside others still being sought. She was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on a two count charge of conspiracy and obtaining money by false pretence following Bamaiyi’s petition that Rosulu aided a Lagos socialite, Fred Ajudua to swindle him of $330,000 on the pretence that they would get him a lawyer in an attempted murder case he faced some years ago. Although Bamayi was discharged and acquitted of the alleged attempted murder case preferred against him by the Lagos State Government, he swiftly petitioned the EFCC, alleging that he had been swindled by Rosulu alongside others of $330,000. In his judgement yesterday, Justice Akapo who formulated three issues for determination concluded that the convict was guilty as charged. The issues, according to the judge were ‘whether or not the prosecution has proved its case; whether or not the prosecution has proved the case of obtaining money by false pretense against the defendant and whether or not the defendant had validly and properly set up the defence of “alibi” and whether it can be sustained. All these, Justice Akapo resolved against the accused person. On the first issue, the judge held that the prosecution has indeed proved its case owing to the submissions of the second prosecution witness (PW2), ACP Garuba Abdullahi, in his evidence contrary to the view of the defence lawyer, Bamidele Ogundele that conspirators in a conspiracy charge need not meet physically to achieve their intentions. The court said that the evidence of ACP Garuba Abdullahi, showed clearly (Click the link below to read more) <[url: http:www.primeviewsng.com]>

In line with the policy of the Federal Government to curtail smuggling of contra-band items into the country through the border lines, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Oyo/Osun Command, stormed a forest along Kishi- Igbeti area of Oyo State and intercepted five long trucks fully loaded with foreign rice, brought illegally into the country by smugglers. Speaking, the Acting Customs Area Controller (CAC) of the Command, Mr. Abdulsalam Hassan, disclosed that the operation took place by 1.00am through intelligence gathering, as a combined team of officers from his Command bombarded the forest where recalcitrant rice smugglers hid huge imported foreign rice. He said, “Our officers who were so determined, embarked on that operation in the forest at night through a tip off, and the bags of rice were seized and brought into the Command with five trucks as you can see here. The Duty Paid Value (DPV) for the rice is estimated at the monetary value of over N23.9million. This seizure would send a serious warning signal to those trying to sabotage our economy that there is no hiding place for smugglers in Oyo/Osun Command. Also, there is no going back on duty payment for rice imports from the borders.” He went on, “It is shocking to observe that notwithstanding the sensitisation campaigns embarked upon under the platform of Customs Community Consultative Forum (CCCF), some unscrupulous elements still continue to smuggle items into the country. The Command will not relent on its continuous enlightenment programmes to guide and facilitate trade, in order to enhance willful compliance with the law, while the long arm of the law awaits those unrepentant economic saboteurs who are out to destroy our economy”. He added, “So far, the Command generated a total of N144.2million from 2156metri tonnes of rice between October and November this year, when the restriction on duty collection for rice from the borders was removed. This is a great achievement under the current management of the new Controller General of Customs, Col. Hameed Ibrahim Ali (retired). Also, from January to November 2015, the Command realised a total of N13.2billion from revenue generation. Additionally, a total of 166 seizures, with a DPV of N395.1million were recorded by the Command. We are ready to confront the challenges that militate against our successes and continue to build on the achievements so far recorded in the areas of revenue generation and anti-smuggling.” On the risk of carrying out such operation at night, the OC, Compliance, Abuja, Mr. Usman Galadima, explained that the officers from Oyo/Osun Command patrol the border region day and night to curtail smuggling of offensive items and prohibited goods illegally into the country through any means. He stressed, “We operate under Customs and Excise Management Act (CEMA), which allows Customs to (Click the link below to read more) <[url: http://www.primeviewsng.com]>

Security forces armed with guns and arrows killed two young women wearing explosive vests in a north Cameroon town on Monday, the second raid there in days by suspected Boko Haram militants from neighbouring Nigeria, witnesses said. The would-be suicide bombers, described as adolescent girls, entered Kolofata just before dawn, residents and officials told Reuters. “The first kamikaze (suicide bomber) exploded near my house … When she entered, the local vigilance committee fired an arrow at her head and she set off her bomb,” said resident Bahoua, who declined to give his full name. Self-defence groups have sprung up across north Cameroon and are overseen by the army. The other young woman was shot by Special Forces, known by their French initials BIR, one of the sources said. There were no reports of anyone else being killed or wounded in the town about 10 km (6 miles) from the Nigerian border, said locals. Suicide attacks have become an almost daily occurrence in Cameroon’s Far North Region despite a military operation late last month to flush out the militants who are seeking to cave out an Islamist state in Nigeria. No one claimed responsibility for the attempted bomb attack but officials blamed Boko Haram for an assault that killed 10 people in the same town on Friday. Boko Haram fighters are mostly based in northeast Nigeria but have expanded their campaign, setting up camps and launching attacks in neighbouring Chad, Niger and Cameroon. These countries along with Nigeria and Benin have formed a 8,700-strong regional task force to combat the group, although joint operations have yet to begin and national armies are increasingly tackling the militants alone. Cameroon’s army says it killed 100 Boko Haram members and rescued 900 hostages late November, although some security sources have questioned the scale of the operation. The United States has sent troops to Cameroon to help with intelligence and other operations against Boko Haram. <[url: http://www.primeviewsng.com]>

A driver mowed down and killed a cyclist whilst receiving MouthAction from a passenger, police have claimed. Randy Joe Allen’s passenger stunned cops when she revealed she had been performing a sex act on him when she heard a loud bump as they drove away from a bar they had just met in. Allen, 54, said he thought he had hit a stop sign after officers found his bloodied pick-up truck at a bar shortly after Terry Lamunt Ross, 49, was killed after being knocked off his bicycle in Polk County, Florida. The driver told police he been “distracted” by a young woman he had picked up at a bar earlier in the day. His passenger said that she couldn’t see what Allen had hit and “did not have any reason to not believe him," when he told her it was a stop sign. Mr Ross had been riding his bicycle on the hard shoulder when he was struck head on by a green Ford pick-up truck. The homeless 49-year-old was flung off his bicycle on to the hard shoulder and later pronounced dead at the scene as the truck sped off down the road. Several witness contacted police and Allen’s car was traced to Liquid Larry’s Bar after his relatives tipped off police. The 54-year-old driver has been charged with one count of leaving the scene of a crash involving a death. Officer's also reported Allen was slurring his words and he may face additional charges pending the results of blood tests. <[url: http://www.primeviewsng.com]>

Two men accused of being 'sorcerers' have been beheaded in a public square by ISIS for practising 'magic'. The victims, both wearing blindfolds and dressed in trademark orange jumpsuits, are flanked by a pair of masked executioners in the latest horrifying video from the terror group. Footage shows the two men with their arms bound behind their backs being held by the neck in the Libyan square. They are then led to a block where they kneel and await the executioners' blades as a huge crowd watches. When the men, one who appears to be elderly, are killed, the audience shouts "Allahu Akbar". The video ends with the corpses being thrown into an ambulance. It is thought there are as many as 2,000 jihadists in Libya trying to impose Sharia law. Military officials from the UK and US said that as ISIS loses ground in Syria and Iraq, the terror group has edged further into Libya. The group has started to impose a warped interpretation of Islam the people of port city of Sirte, banning music, forcing women to wear veils and crucifying people. <[url: http://www.primeviewsng.com]>

If members of the victorious Golden Eaglets of Nigeria have had any dream of Naira windfall for them as a reward for the exploit they made in far away Chile, winning the FIFA U-17 World Cup for the fifth time, they had better woken up from such reverie as the Buhari-led federal government of Nigeria has stated that there is no cash reward for the team. Reliable sources have it that the reward proposal made by the Federal Ministry of Sports has been rejected by the presidency, which claims that the proposal is “too outrageous.” The presidency has made it a sing-song that the country has no money and therefore cannot afford frivolous spending. It would be recalled that when the team won the same trophy for the fourth time two years ago in United Arab Emirate, its members were rewarded with cash gifts and national honours. However, the team may yet have to be basking in the euphoria of that past reward as the government of President Muhammadu Buhari has made it clear that there would be no cash reward for the victorious Golden Eaglets this time. Earlier reports that the president (Click on the link below to read more) <[url: http://www.primeviewsng.com]>

THE three-week-long pro-Biafra protests turned bloody, yesterday, as the Joint Military Task Force (JTF) killed nine of the protesters and injured 18 in Onitsha, the commercial city of Anambra State Vanguard has reported. Irked by the stubborn disposition of the pro- Biafra agitators, who blocked the Niger Bridge Head and refused to give way to motorists, the JTF comprising Army, Navy, Police and Civil Defence troops, yesterday afternoon, opened fire at protesting members of Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, and Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, killing nine people and injuring 18. Five people were killed at Niger Bridge Head while three were killed at Obodoukwu Road. A suya (barbecue meat) seller said to have been hit by a stray bullet died instantly. The protesters were having a peaceful procession across South East states and had vowed to continue their blockage of the bridge for three days until detained Director of Radio Biafra, Mr. Nnamdi Kanu is released. Miscreants, on hearing that some people had been shot dead by the JTF, started another protest, marched to the Central mosque near Onitsha Main Market and set it ablaze. A Hilux pick-up van with Federal Government number plate was also burnt when the JTF held motorists and commuters hostage at Upper Iweka with sporadic shootings that had never been witnessed before in Onitsha. Despite losing two men, we didn’t attack protesters – Police The Anambra Police Command said, yesterday, that despite losing two of its men during the pro-Biafra protests in Onitsha, the command never retaliated. The command’s Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Mr. Ali Okechukwu, in an interview, faulted the allegation that Police fired at the protesters, adding that one of the policemen, a sergeant, was killed at Obodo Ukwu, while the other was killed at Eze Iweka road. He said that following the problem in Onitsha, police kept vigil to ensure that peace was maintained and totally denied police involvement in the bloody riot that led to the death of about nine people. “We did not fire a shot at anybody and even when our men were felled, we still did not retaliate,” he said. It was gathered that what led to yesterday’s violence was an attempt by the JTF to reopen the blocked roads at the Bridge Head and at Upper Iweka road in the wee hours of Wednesday. When the security operatives tried to open the roads, it was learned, they met resistance from the protesters, who grounded Onitsha on Tuesday and ensured that no vehicle entered or left the commercial city. How protests turned bloody The protesting IPOB members had blocked the Niger Bridge early Tuesday morning, thereby grounding vehicular movements in and out of Onitsha. From Asaba, Delta State, many boarded speed boats provided by the Marine Police to get in and out of Onitsha. The protest was, however, aggravated by shooting to death of five IPOB members who were observing their peaceful procession at the Niger Bridge Head against the continued detention of their leader, Mr. Nnamdi Kanu at about 1.30 am All the markets in Onitsha were shut around 12.30 pm, as thousands of traders in the markets and environs were seen scampering for safety as sporadic gunshots continued in many parts of the city. The JTF, who could not disperse the protesters on Tuesday invaded the Niger Bridge at about 1.30 am, yesterday, and opened fire on the IPOB members who refused to leave the Niger Bridge, the gateway to the South East, killing six people including the suya seller said to have been hit by a stray bullet. The killing of the protesters sparked off another protest by IPOB members who were joined by MASSOB members. They made bonfires along Onitsha-Owerri Road and Onitsha-Enugu Express way, forcing motorists coming in and out of Onitsha from Enugu, Asaba and Owerri to be trapped. A Vanguard reporter who went to Oba for an assignment was trapped at Oba junction, where he had to pay N3,000 from Oba Junction to Tarzan Junction, Onitsha, as over 2,000 vehicles coming into Onitsha were seen parked at the Oba Junction and refused entrance into Onitsha. Commercial motorcyclists banned on the express roads by the state government made brisk business and had a field day as it was the only means of coming into and out of Onitsha. Military should not push us into violence — IPOB Speaking with newsmen, National coordinator of IPOB, Mr. Chidiebere Onwudiwe, alleged that five of their members were killed while 18 people sustained injuries, adding that he learned that more people were killed in the sporadic shooting by the JTF at Upper Iweka. “The Joint Military Task Force could not disperse the protesters on Tuesday, and they went to regroup and invaded our members who were observing our three-day peaceful protest at the Niger Bridge at about 1.30 am Wednesday morning. We warned that they should not push us to be violent because we have people that can match them violence for violence,” he said. Vanguard gathered that Chief Rommy Ezeonwuka, the Ogirisi Igbo, a respected Igbo leader, who has the loyalty of both MASSOB and IPOB youths was attacked at about 1.35 am when he went to talk to the protesting youths at the Niger Bridge Head, after some Igbo leaders had pleaded with him to speak with the protesters. Speaking in an interview at his house in Oba, Chief Ezeonwuka said: “The dangerous game being played by the Federal Government of Nigeria in the continued incarceration of Nnamdi Kanu will end up being an expensive joke and dangerous mistake. “I am calling on Igbo elite to speak with one voice for immediate release of Nnamdi Kanu before the youths turn their peaceful protest to violent protest. The protest started with free flow of traffic, but today it has advanced to road block,” he said. The Campaign for Democracy, CD, South East branch, also condemned the killing of the protesters. Chairman of CD, South East branch, Dede Uzor A Uzor, said: “IPOB has been peaceful in their protest and there should not be any reason to open fire on them by security agencies. We are also calling for the unconditional release of Nnamdi Kanu and other IPOB and MASSOB members being incarcerated in various prisons and detention centres in the country, as they have not broken any law for protesting peacefully.” IG reads riot act, begins prosecution of protesters However, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Solomon Arase, has disclosed that no fewer than 137 protesters have been arrested and currently undergoing prosecution. The police boss spoke yesterday, when he visited the Ministry of Interior. According to him, the suspects are all members of MASSOB and IPOB. Arase, who also described Nigerians as lawless, said in as much as government respects the right of citizens to free expression, MASSOB and IPOB activists must stop threatening public peace or face the full wrath of the law. His words: “What I can assure you is that we will not allow any group to disturb the peace of this country. We will clamp down on them, we will deal with them, we will prosecute them. Already, we have about 137 of them who are undergoing prosecution across the length and breadth of the South East and we will continue to do that. “The latest manifestation of this threat is the attempt to block the Onitsha end of Niger Bridge on December 1, 2015, an action that caused major hardship to innocent and law abiding motorists and citizens. The act also occasioned serious dislocation of business activities.” Arase issued a stern warning to MASSOB and IPOB activists to stop threatening public peace or face the full weight of the law. To maintain law and order, the IG in a statement by Acting ACP Olabisi Kolawole, directed Assistant Inspectors–General of Police Zone 5, (Benin); Zone 6, (Calabar) and Zone 9 (Umuahia) and all Commissioners of Police in the affected states in the South East and neigbouring states “to henceforth maximally exercise their statutory mandate in relation to prevention and disruption of any gathering that threatens public order and national cohesion. Any person or group of persons so arrested in furtherance to the enforcement of this order will be made to face the full wrath of the law”. The IGP advised parents and guardians to call their children and wards to order as the patience of the Force was being stretched to the limit, adding that “no individual or group interest can override the interest of the nation and that democratic values provide for exploration of rule of law to advance any concern, not the resort to endless and misguided acts of brigandage, unless there is an ulterior motive as the extant instance tends to dictate.” Monarchs to the rescue Disturbed by the growing protests, representatives of Northern States Council of Traditional Rulers and their South East counterparts met in Owerri, yesterday, to deliberate on the issue. The visiting royal fathers from the North were led by the Etsu Nupe, His Royal Highness, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar. Other traditional rulers that made the trip included the Coordinating Committee Chairman of Northern States Council of Traditional Rulers and the Emir of Gumi, Justice Lawal Aliyu Gumi; the Emir of Lafia, Alhaji Mustapha Agwai, who is the Chairman of Nasarawa State Council of Traditional Rulers; Emir of Fika, Alhaji Abali Mohammadu, Chairman of Yobe State Council of Traditional Rulers, and Gbong Gwom Jos, Da Jacob Buba Gyang, Chairman of Plateau State Council of Traditional Rulers. The South-East Traditional Rulers were led to the meeting by the Chairman of the Council, Eze Ebere Dick, who is also the Chairman of the Abia State Council of Traditional Rulers; Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Nnaemeka Alfred Achebe, Chairman of Anambra State Council of Traditional Rulers; Eze Agunwa Ohiri, Chairman Imo State Council of Traditional Rulers and Eze Dr. Agom Eze, Chairman, Ebonyi State Council of Traditional Rulers. Speaking when the group paid a courtesy call on Governor Rochas Okorocha at the Government House, Owerri, the Etsu Nupe and leader of the delegation, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, explained that they were in the state to meet with the South East Traditional Council, at the instance of His Eminence, Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, who is Chairman of the Northern Council of Traditional Rulers. “We are principally in Imo to discuss the issue of the current and escalating agitation by Pro-Biafra groups in the South-East geo-political zone and to find the reasons for this renewed agitations and how the situation can be arrested”, Alhaji Abubakar said. He also disclosed that they are in Imo to find out the truth about the rumour that there was crises in the leadership of the South East Council of Traditional Rulers. While saying that they would go back home to relate their findings to their colleagues, the royal fathers also remarked that protection of the nation’s unity was paramount. Speaking also, Chairman of the South East Traditional Council, Eze Ebere Dick, promised that they would work together with the South East governors to amicably resolve the MASSOB and IPOB issues. Responding, Governor Okorocha commended the royal fathers for the meeting, which he described as timely and advised them too to “make such meetings regular in the interest of the nation. There is need for traditional rulers across the nation to be meeting regularly, to help in curbing religious and ethnic crises, mostly caused or sponsored by politicians for political gains. It is also important that our traditional rulers should resist the temptation of entering into the murky waters of Nigerian politics.” On the pro-Biafra protests and agitations, Governor Okorocha informed that the South-East governors and stakeholders in the region had set up a committee to look into the issue and proffer quick solution. The governor also appealed to the Northern traditional rulers to, as a matter of urgency, address the issue of the activities of Fulani herdsmen within the South-East because their activities constitute great danger to lives and properties of the people of the area. Obiano sues for peace Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State, last night, in a broadcast appealed to the protesters to maintain peace and resist attempt by hoodlums to take advantage of the situation to destabilize the state. The governor’s address read: “My beloved people of Anambra State, I wish to address you on the on-going protest staged in Onitsha by the members of the Indigenous People of Biafra and MASSOB. “The government of Anambra State has been monitoring developments and is greatly concerned about the security of lives and property of residents and visitors to the state. As your Governor and Chief Security Officer of the state, I am compelled to act to avert any likely breakdown of law and order. In all situations, the preservation of human life comes first and I am determined to enforce that. “Since the inception of my administration, we have made the security of lives and property our priority and we are not going to compromise on that. I, therefore, sincerely appeal to members of the IPOB, MASSOB and other aggrieved groups and individuals to maintain the peace and resist any attempt by hoodlums to take advantage of the situation and destabilize any part of Anambra State. “I am in constant touch with all the security agencies in the state to ensure that what has otherwise been a peaceful protest is not hijacked by trouble makers. All mischief makers are hereby warned to keep off as we will not tolerate any breach of peace under any guise or pretext. You are seriously warned! I therefore wish to assure Ndi Anambra and all visitors to the state to go about their normal businesses peacefully as the security agencies are on top of the situation to preserve law and order.” We didn’t set Onitsha Central Mosque ablaze – IPOB, MASSOB Meanwhile, the agitating groups have disassociated themselves from acts of arson and violence that culminated in the razing down of Onitsha Central Mosque and burning of some vehicles. MASSOB Acting Leader, Uchenna Madu, in a statement said: “The setting of Ontisha Central Mosque and vehicles ablaze and making of bonfires, which depict violence are not done by the members of IPOB or MASSOB under my leadership. “This unwarranted acts of violence are perfected by hoodlums sponsored by agents of the Federal Government to create impression that non-violence and peaceful pro-Biafra groups have turned violent in our agitation for Biafra. Our oppressors are no longer comfortable. There is no evidence of terrorism in our protest. How can we resort to violence now that we’re told that the presidency is about negotiating with leaders of pro-Biafra group? “With today’s killing of our members and injuring many with bullet shots,we are no longer comfortable with the presidency’s move for dialogue. Federal Government’s move for dialogue is hypocritical and deceitful. Any Igbo group, organization and persons negotiating, meeting or dialoguing with the presidency on our behalf without our consent or mandate should stop now. “MASSOB led by Uchenna Madu and IPOB led by Nnamdi Kanu have never mandated any person to negotiate for us. Even in this persecution, arrest, killings, clampdown, suppression against us by Nigeria Government, we shall continue and intensify our non-violence agitation for Biafra. For Nigeria to release their Armed Forces against non-violent, defenceless Biafra agitators shows their wickedness and the devilish mind of President Muhammad Buhari against our people.” Don’t use force Following the recent development, Igbo living in Niger State have urged the Federal Government not to use force on the agitators for Biafra but rather should dialogue with them in order not to further compound the insecurity that has already enveloped many parts of the country. While suggeting dialogue as a means of settling the crisis which is daily building up across the country, the Niger State Chapter of Ohanaeze Ndigbo said it is not in any way in support of any move that could lead to war in the country. <[url: http://www.primeviewsng.com]>

Idleness, they say, breeds loin desires. There'll be more pregnancies during this Xmas period in the camps as aftermath of a Merry Xmas. |
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) says over 410 births and 187 marriages were recorded at Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) Camps in Borno and Adamawa in August and September. This is contained in a statement issued by NEMA and made available to newsmen on Wednesday in Abuja. The statement as reported by Vanguard quoted Mr Muhammad Sani-Sidi, the Director-General of NEMA, as disclosing this when members of “Bring Back Our Girls” advocacy group, led by Mrs Oby Ezekwensili, paid him a courtesy visit. He said that 100 marriages were conducted in Maiduguri camps, while 87 were conducted in Adamawa camps. Sani-Sidi said that emergency education for IDPs Children had become a major priority after many insurgency attacks on students, teachers and schools from where about 269 teachers lost their lives. He said that the agency, in ensuring efficient management of camps, had trained personnel in Camp Coordination and Camp Management (CCCM). The NEMA boss said that it had also deployed the personnel to manage various IDP camps in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa. He said that in addition to the CCCM, the agency would provide the special needs of vulnerable people during emergencies. Sani-Sidi advised the advocacy group to extend its platform to other issues like unaccompanied minors and mass child births in the camps. According to him, this is because disaster management is multidisciplinary, multidimensional and multitasking. Ezekwesili, had earlier, expressed displeasure with the abduction of the Chibok girls, saying that Monday marked the 596th- day of their abduction. She called on NEMA for more cooperation and mobilisation efforts to protect and care for the vulnerable in the society. Mrs Aisha Yesufu, the Chairman of the group, said that their visit was also to seek collaboration with NEMA in areas of education, living conditions in camps, security, health and other areas. She also sought to know how their platform could be helpful in supporting efforts of Federal Government and the IDPs in areas the agency deemed necessary (Click on the link below to read more) <[url: http://www.primeviewsng.com]>
