My own DS-160 had no education or language question. Though it has US travel history question. I don't think it has anything to do with payment of visa fee. But you need to at least pay your visa fee before submitting your DS 160. It's just logical you do that. yomcy2016: please gurus in the house, I kinda need your help and clarification badly.
My issue is, I once complained about the fact that my DS-160 has some missing question such as departure date from US, TRAVEL HISTORY, UNIVERSITY EDUCATION, LANGUAGES.... I was able to find out that this were missing in my own cos a friend of mine who we are both going to same school has those question in his own.
Walspring adviced i use another browser or prolly fill another DS 160 form since I havent submitted. So after much attempt i filled another DS-160 form but still same issue and eventually i submitted like that. It was afterwards I knew i was suppose to pay my visa fees before filling the DS 160 form.
Please my question is can it be because I didnt pay my visa fees initially before filling the DS-160 form was the reason for those missing questions? Now that I have submitted, I know i cannot do anythig about it again. However can the gurus in the house please advise me on the next step I can take to remedy the mistake. I am thinking of making payment tomorrow. Please can I be advised accordingly?
Thanks in anticipation of your response |

I was so hungry I almost passed out and it's been a stressful two days for me because of the flood, I have not had any decent sleep for two days. I was interviewed by the chubby white lady in her 50's, the lady did not smile at all, not even for a second. She denied the two guys before me and she approved one guy before them. The guy she approved, they where busy cracking jokes and she was all smiles (The Guy fine Sha). After that it was frowning all the day. Fear catch me for real, coupled with the hunger and the sleep that was on my case I felt like I lost my voice. Fast forward to my turn.
Me: Good Morning Vo : still frowning (Pass me your paper) Vo: what is your highest degree Me: Masters Vo: When did you have this Master Me: 2011 Vo: Why do you need another Masters Me: I intend to pursue a career in economic analysis and a masters in (Vo cuts me off) Vo: What have you been doing since 2011 Me: I first worked with Union bank as (She cuts me off) Vo: This scholarship what's it about Me: Its an academic merit award? awarded to me by (Vo cuts in) Vo: Why where you given this award Me: because of my previous academic record Vo: How many schools did you apply to Me: Two Vo: What's the other one Me: Illinois state university (Because of hunger and frowning I could not even properly pronounce Illinois) Vo: she leans over and is like come again No: said it agin this time she heard me Vo: Where you given admission Me: (With a smile)I was not admitted Vo: Who is paying for the balance Me: My uncle Vo: what does he do Me: Owns a Micro finance company Vo: Have you been to the USA before Me: Yes VO: Where would you be staying Me: I would get a place around Arlington Virginia. Vo: Pick up your Passport in three days (circling something on the paper) Me: Thank you very much.
I prayed so hard for a smiling Vo and an uncomplicated interview. Baba God answered the most important one so it's all good. No documents asked, no question of why this school what would you do with this degree. In fact neither She nor I ever mentioned the name of my school through out the conversation. She was so focused on the screen I was just wondering if it is only DS-160 she is reading. That was it everyone o. Please pray pray pray before you come for your interview, because the whole process is a lil but awkward and can easily unsettle some people. The God factor can not be over emphasized.
I have learned to much from this thread and I wish to thank everyone that contributes to its success. We all need to be our brothers keeper and it's evident in this thread. All the best to others awaiting their interview. God would surely do it for you as he did it for me. |

Very bad idea. This is a student visa not tourist visa. Your marital status plays no role, all the VO wants to know is if you are a genuine student. fairheart: Hey! Nice question. I am happy you asked for this. The issue of age and getting the student visa is a very important one. What you should know is that, the consular who will be interviewing you might be interested in your marital status, or might not. But if she/he ask, tell him you're engaged, and you can put on an engagement ring and plan for your wedding after your MS program. I am not sure this is the best answer for you, as the one of the students I participated in her admission had to use this style of showing home-ties. It worked and she is in Texas now. More so, saying you're engage is perhaps another way of showing that you have something waiting for you back home after your education. But let's hope whoever will interview you will not dive into your personal life or relationship status. Just prepare in case VO is interested in your status. Think about the engagement stuff if it is okay for you. |

joeluv: Hope you realize masters and PHD are two different things. It's easier to get a fully funded masters program with a low GRE score but I don't think that applies to PHD. Don't be too obsessed over ranking. I just gave an example of someone that studied engineering in an Unranked school. This person could not even secure GA from Nigeria , had a 2.2 in Nigeria but at the end secured a very good job in the US after school, got H1-B and and also a fully funded PHD program in duke. So allow people to go to what ever school they have opportunity to go do (especially whn funded). There it's never black and white, what works for A might not work for B. So enough of this. |

I've secured unfunded PhD admission since then to a competitive school despite applying several months outside admission window. Look, a great GPA is not good enough, that's my point. I will rewrite my GRE because 310 can't fly. My sister, not everyone wants to study at Kean University or a Morgan state something. No disrespect to those studying there. |

I don't like commenting about school ranking and stuffs. But I personally know someone that studied engineering in Morgan state university, then got HI-B and a fully funded PHD in duke. However the person opted for the H1-B and let the PHD go. Morgan state uni is not even a ranked school. So a lot of things determine success in the USA. |

I think your CGPA is too low for MA in Economics. You'd need lots of experince to make up for this. MA economics is very competitive. May be you should think of choosing another course closely related to MA economics. AusterHeights: Hello house, I applied to 5 schools for Fall 2017 and got denied by 3 of them, i had to send email to the remaining two schools to defer my application till Spring 2018 to enable me repackage my application(maybe rewrite GRE);
My Profile: Course: MA Economics CGPA: 2.5/5 GRE: V154/Q146(300) TOEFL: 102
Status:
Illinois State University - denied Cleveland State University - denied Eastern Illinois State Uni - denied
SUNY - Buffalo State College - deferred application till Spring 2018 ST. Cloud State Uni - deferred application till Spring 2018
I don't know if i applied to the wrong schools or if the fact that i had extra year in the uni affected my application. I have since applied for WES evaluation. Please if anyone has info about schools that would accept me based on my profile, I'm interested. Hoping to hear from you guys please. |

Sorry about the delay. Nothing to be ashamed about. We all make mistakes. You should have resechelduled the appointment and requested for a new 1-20. Anyway u still have time. Request for a new 1-20 and schedule another interview. All the best. sshola: I was denied today at Walter Carrington but I am so ashamed writing this now. I applied for two different programmes in CSU. MED curriculum (for summer but I didn't go) and Msc mathematics (deferred from spring to fall as I couldn't go) for fall which I really want to do. The school sent me both I20 at different times though but since I didn't go I requested for a new one for maths, fall... I got my I20 with the admission letter clipped to it stating the maths programme. So I got all docs ready and applied. I was just about to sign my I20 today Wen I discovered the major on the I20 was education, Not mathematics. This was where I lost my senses. I was torn between weda to go on with the interview or cancel it. This has never happened to anyone on NL before. I decided to put some points together to defend the education programme hoping to get the correct I20 when I resume
VO : documents pls Me: did
Vo: what is taking you the US Me: To Pursue My masters degree in education and curriculum studies with a concentration in maths
Vo: are you a teacher Me :yes, I work with that school
Vo: what's the age Range of your studentS Me :9-10
Vo : do you need a masters degree to teach that age Me: my aspiration is beyond this though, and my new degree will only further advance my career as a mathemticiaN
Vo: how many schools did you apply Me:3
Vo: name them Me: UBC CANADA, CSU OHIO and I went blank.. ..totally Bowie disappeared
VO: it's okay and gave me blue
Everything I said was right but my prep was purely based on mathenatics major and all my responses were just new. I wish I never applied to two courses. How I didn't see the Mistake in my I20 is still a shame till now. I am pained |

Travel › Re: The New Prospects For US Foreign Students - The New Truth. by joeluv: 9:25pm On Jun 12, 2017 |
I got funding, so do most Nigerian students. That's why the US is generally attractive to international students. Also Yeah, am aware of the costs and hastles. Goldenboy007: $49,850 excluding fees for GWU, and thats just a ranked school.another ranked school NYU, M.A in economics would cost roughly $60k for 32. Credit points without fees. This budget excludes all other cost like boarding , textbooks, transport , feeding etc. NYU estimated all that at $34,304 - now let me be modest ...i will cut that to $25000, add that to $50k tuition- You are looking at a cost $75k for your program.
Most foreign student under estimate the cost of coming to US to study. It goes back to my explanation - You need to be sure that after spending all that money, you would be able to secure a job without Visa discrimination.
The visa policy is changing fast - so before jumping into the expenses - Make sure you have adequate planning.
Some people will tell themselves...all I need is to get into the US then I will find my way - this notion has accounted for so many stranded students in US who ended up becoming illegal - US you cannot stay, Nigeria you cannot go back to. Hustling used to be fine but under this new dispensation - laws are becoming vsry strict.
So before you jump into the plane with your family - Do your calculation well.
Hint - there is a popular believe here that if you do Masters in Science and not MBA - you are gearing up in the educational career - so also evaluate your career prospect.
Thanks |

Yeah I know MBA is generally much more expensive. GPA 3.28/4. Think u shld work on gaining experince to cover for yr GPA. tensazangetsu20: MBAS are run with the conception that you need money to make money. An MBA at Harvard cost 200000 dollars. There is hardly any funding for MBAs because they are professional degrees. Congratulations on the admission to George Washington University, it's a very good university and way better than what most Nigerians go to. I was wondering if I could know your profile.
