The Jamb results are out, except you fall into the category of people whose results are withheld. If then, then take deep breath and prepare for a rewrite. For those that have successfully checked their Jamb Scores, I say congratulations.


There are two possibilities: you either pass or you fall below the cut off mark. Candidates whose Jamb score is within 200 and above, have a good higher chance at getting admitted to their favorite university. However, if you scored within 150 to 199, you shouldn’t despair, there are still a lot of possibilities.

Those whose Jamb results scores are within the 150-160 range, would need to do a change of institution and pick a less competitive university or polytechnic. You can also change your course if your preferred course was one of medicine, pharmacy, law, and other highly competitive course.

You may not like the course you choose now, but give yourself time and you would refuse to change it for another. I met a group of student studying “Adult Education”, most of them where actually supplementary students who accepted admission into that course with the hope of changing to another course. But when the opportunity came to change, they couldn’t go ahead with it. They have fallen in love with their course of study, and have come to understand how important it is in the society. It is that easy, and it has a high job prospect.


If your jamb score is below 150, there are also several educational opportunities you can take advantage of. Most College of Education (COE) accepts 120-150 as cut of marks. Also, there are Predegree and basic programs that offers the possibility of being admitted after a year or two.

There are Pre ND programs run by polytechnics and also IJMB for those who would like to seek direct admission after two years.


If you are a bit older, then you should consider the National Open University (NOUN) or a part-time program. NOUN don’t require jamb for admission, and you would have access to your preferred courses.

Note that their academic activities are a little different from the conventional schools. You should read up more about them before making a choice.

If you don’t want to study another course, or maybe your parents are adamant of allowing you switch courses or schools, then take the year off. It’s just one year.

Learn a skill; learn coding, web design, graphics design, catering and decoration, fashion designing, Phone repair etc.

I was apprentice to an artist while searching for admission, and I made some cool cash with that skill while in school. No knowledge is ever wasted and knowledge of computers is a major requirement to succeed in Today’s market place.

Conclusively, whether you scored high or low in the just released Jamb results isn’t the issue. The issue is what you do going forward. The the necessary steps and you will succeed.
