Politics / Re: Sponsors Of Nigeria’s Terrorist Bandits, By Farooq Kperogi by joey150(m): 1:52pm On Oct 23, 2021
Buhari has succeeded in taking an already stagnated Nigeria 100 steps backwards. An ethnic jingoist that rules with propaganda and gained power through cheap sentiments.

It is crystal clear that large swathes of the terroristic happenings all over the North carries the tacit but strong blessing of this present administration.

Sometimes I wonder if this country can wait till 2023 for a great reset. But again, when I hear the echoes of washed out and corrupt names like Tinubu and Atiku vying for power, I wonder if there will ever be an end to Nigeria's decay.

There is indeed fire on the mountain, and as is characteristic of most Nigerians, they never seem to be on the run.

Politics / Re: Governor Inuwa Yahaya Borrowed, Looted N55.3 Billion In Two Years - Gazette by joey150(m): 11:13am On Oct 22, 2021
Nigerian leaders have gone from embezzling petrodollars to impoverishing future generations by brazenly looting loans.

Anyway, Buhari set the stage for wanton borrowing without anything to show for it.

Long after the Gombe governor leaves power with his bounty, the people of Gombe will continue to toil in penury. As if extreme poverty wasn't bad enough, they will also have the shackle of debt anchored to their neck for a long time.

Awesome stuff!

This will go a long way to curbing rigging. We still have a long way to go in santizing our electoral process, but this is a noteworthy step.

INEC must begin to put everything in place to make this process fair and transparent. I hope they adopt it for the upcoming election in Anambra state.

Is there any law that prohibits the govt from using the funds budgeted for their frivolities in putting this "infrastructure" in place before attacking the subsidy?

Two wrongs done make a right. We should stop "subsidizing" anything at all. Because in the long run it tends to do more harm than good. If you want to see real growth and development, then tell the government to hands off electricity and fuel.

It'll be more expensive initially, but you tend to enjoy a better and progressively cheaper service. This short term thinking isn't going to help. As a nation we must begin to plan 5-10 years ahead. It's not okay to pay subsidy today and go broke tomorrow.

It's complete lunacy that a country that exports crude oil will earn less money when the price of crude oil increases globally. It's the direct opposite of common sense.

My thoughts on subsidy is that it should be retained, at least the masses should at least benefit something. The roads are bad, no train passes through my LGA, we provide our own water, and so on...

If funds are being frittered in the name of presidential air fleet for the benefit of less than 0.00001% of the populace, pointless yearly villa renovation, aso rock kitchen, pointless junketing over the world, then the massages deserve something.

The people running the whole thing are the problem, the devils.

There is a talk of subsidy is basically subsidizing the rich who have multiple cars, this is Hogwash, when it is removed, the villager who has no car will feel it when he needs to buy foodstuff, household items or pay school fees.

Mind you, it is only dangote's refinery we are waiting on and it won't solve half the need, while there are talks of giving him right of important.

The only real people that benefit from subsidies are those with fuel import license and those that smuggle fuel in and out of Nigeria.

The masses benefit nothing. It's penny wise pound foolish. You enjoy 'cheap fuel' at the expense of every other infrastructure a sane society should have.

Politics / Re: Pandora: How Stella Oduah Secretly Bought ₦5 Billion London Properties With Cash by joey150(m): 2:08pm On Oct 06, 2021

Stella was a billionaire before joining politics. She had her first UK house in the 1990s. In fact she has an oil servicing firm. I don't know what her crimes are exactly.
She might be corrupt and I am not holding brief for her but
Premium times being the only participating nigeria news outlet in this Pandora stuff has turned herself as a tool to witch hunt eastern politicians just same way no American businessman was mentioned in the saga despite America being the country with the highest offshore accounts.

I don't want to believe that the Lagos-ibadan brown envelop journalism want to discredit eastern politicians ahead of 2023 the way they packaged and transformed a failed coupist and tribalist to us in 2015.

I believe all thief should be made to face the law irrespective of their religion, tribe and political affiliating. But when journalism is one sided and aims to be mischievous and partial in order to please the tribe, religion and political affiliation of the journalist or her company. Then such journalist and her write up will not be taken serious by me and people of rational mind.

What is the difference between what the government is doing and what premium times is doing? Prosecuting criminals from other tribes but shielding criminals from your tribe.

Mr taiwo adebayo tell us your true motive

Simpletons like you abandon facts, play dumb to evidence and would rather embrace tribalism.

I don't care who's exposing who, if you've stolen public funds and the evidence is damn overwhelming then you must answer for it.

Whether Igbo, Yoruba or Hausa. Don't you know money is a member of no tribe or clan same as suffering and poverty?

You hold brief for the same thieves that would eagerly cooperate with different tribes if the goal was to steal and plunder our common wealth.

Regardless of the motive of the writer, the story makes some concrete allegations of fraud and embezzlement and any sensible person would be far worried about that than the tribe or clan of the writer.

Imagine being an investigative journalist in Nigeria, you spend hours and resources probing a case and when you reveal what you found, those from the tribe of the accused person will call you a thief and sellout.

Shame on bigots like you!

you see the poverty mentality we are talking about, now I don't even blame you again, because me, the person you are arguing with, I am currently pursuing my third degree, I don't have parents talk less of rich one, I do not have the intention of working with my degree now or in the future. So what's your point? No let jealousy for another man matter kill you my brother

You seem to be obsessed with poverty.

Education in Nigeria is highly subsidized and largely substandard. If you're amassing three degrees in Nigeria then good luck to you.

Then again, what you claim makes no logical sense. If you constantly have to pay tuition fees, and have nobody sponsoring your education, and also don't work, it beggars believe as to how you're able to afford a "third degree."

Don't be silly.

Most people don't have a third degree at her age. Except they have rich parents bankrolling it or are being sponsored.

In a nutshell, People go to school so they can get higher paying jobs. It's not poverty, it's common sense. Education is expensive. You need money. To earn money you need to work not amass degrees you cannot afford in the first place.

Politics / Re: Pandora Papers Implicate Peter Obi, Nine Other Nigerians by joey150(m): 8:15am On Oct 05, 2021
ATEAMS:
Why the Pandora Papers must not be taken seriously

1. George Sorros is behind the leaks. If you don't know who George Sorros is then a simple google search will give you a picture perfect description of this international lobbyist and patron of the criminal Clinton family syndicate.

2. No single American is listed even though Americans account for the highest offshore depositors.

3. The files where compiled to slander world leaders and politicians not in good terms with Washington and the liberal democrats.

4. The files are not open source like wikileaks but have been circulated to major media outlets controlled by the world elites. This alon shows a sinister plot in the making where only prominent leaders and politicians who oppose liberal politics are exposed.

5. The whole file scandal is handled by corporate bodies and has in no way the similar hallmark of wikileaks. If corporate news media only reports what they want you to hear, how in God's name do you think they will remain objective and un-bias?
Salient point.

Regardless, it takes nothing away from the fact that those implicated in these accusations must be investigated.

We cannot say because 10 murderers escaped, therefore we must pardon the 11th one we caught.
Politics / Re: 2023: Saraki Tells Youths Not To Contest For Elections So As Not To Be Corrupted by joey150(m): 7:40am On Oct 05, 2021
Don't be misled by the headline, read the whole thing.

He's probably correct. I don't think one good president or senator will come close to reversing the ills that have beleaguered Nigeria since our Colonial masters handed us our freedom a little over a half century ago.

The current extractive political structure we have must be infiltrated slowly but steadily with "better" candidates. As you must have inferred if you read the whole article, you can't WIN elections in present day Nigeria without distributing dollars and forming unholy alliances.

Young people both lack the money and political will to currently dislodge these demons in power. But at least, let's have a strong say in who gets elected to public offices.

Although, I would encourage younger people to contest for lower positions. Not because they may necessarily win, but because they'll better understand how the system works and participation is the first step to fixing it.

However, the easiest and most effective thing young people, and by extension every well meaning Nigerian, must do is show full participation in the Democratic process. They must be heavily involved in the election process. Once the people can significantly control who governs them, then they have won half the battle.

Also, if you really understand democracy, you know that progress doesn't start and end at the President's office. Pay attention to your local and state government elections too.

A lot of governors and local representatives are feeding fat off the people and are contributing nothing of value, but they get off easy because everybody focuses on the president - clearly, most people don't understand how democracy works.

TLDR; Vote and push for electoral reforms it's the most effective way out of our current mess.

Politics / Re: Sanusi: Nigeria Throwing Away Millions Of Dollars In The Scam Called Subsidy by joey150(m): 6:54pm On Oct 02, 2021
The only people subsidy favours are those rich enough to own a car, and more importantly and unfortunately, those that have licenses to import refined fuel.

Nigerians have to realize that cheap fuel isn't in their interest and it comes at the expense of good road, good schools, power and other vital infrastructure. Worse, it furthers and establishes more and more corruption.

Fuel prices will initially soar, but in the end they will settle and continue to drop. If we've sustained decades of brazen corruption, then let's for once suffer for a 'greater good.'

Subsidy removal is definitely going to have far reaching consequences, but there's no easy fix to Nigeria's problem at this stage. Nigeria can be likened to a hopeless junkie. The only way out is a painful and long rehabilitation process. But, it'll be worth it if we persist.

I will find time to go through the thread again and correct some of the grammatical errors I made and probably format some of my points to make for a better read. I hope future readers find the information and discourse on this thread useful.

Peggywebbs, your experience is mind boggling and I'm happy you shared it here. I'm Also glad that this thread could provide some clarity for you on the subject.

Let's say I was stupid and decided to believe this news.

This would mean that at least half of the 108 prisoners (which is 54 of them) happened to charter a luxurious bus and all travel together after the jailbreak - so, the incredible police force tracked the bus via gps and intercepted it. Successfully catching all 54 of them.

Then at least 20 of the remaining 54 all happened to lodge in the same hotel after escaping. Again, the Incredible police force swung to action to capture them all at once, again!

The other 34, perhaps they all went to the same beer parlour, got drunk and then were ambushed by the police as they staggered back to the prison.

You willingly take a loan. Agree to absurd interest rates and agree to pay back at a certain date.

Then that date comes, and you come up with silly excuses to not pay.

Without a good credit rating system, those loan apps are just wasting their time.

The allegations against him are damning and glaring.

The right thing to do is temporarily suspend him from ALL police affairs until all investigations both home and abroad are complete.

The irony is that the NPF is only taking this serious because an international body fingered him in their investigation. We need to attain this level locally. A time where people in public office are relieved of their post when there's a substantial allegation against them.

We need transparency and accountability for Nigerian and Nigerians too and not just when the Federal Bureau of Investigation comes knocking.

When I was in 300level, this particular course Lecturer was disturbing me. Oga failed me oh cheesy.
I went to his office with my Aunty who's also a Lecturer to plead with him, all fell on deaf ears. When we were even leaving the office, my Aunty said,"Who are the people sleeping with this ugly thing sef?".
To be honest, that man was ugly as hell.
I was really depressed that period, cos despite him failing me, he'd call me at odd hours, it was frustrating.
My family put up prayers ontop my head and I also was praying, wrote the exam again in 400level, and I had a B; he failed my friends AGAIN.

I even remember a day, when he finished teaching the new 300level students (when I was in 400level), and the class rep brought out 70k sales she made from selling his textbook to the class. She wanted to give him the money, but he told her to give me the money instead. When I went to his office to beg him again to remove the F he had given me, and also give him his 70k, Uncle said, "The 70k is yours, you know what to do". Haaa!
That man is a beast and e nor go better for am for this life.

I have two pressing questions that I would appreciate if you clarify:

1. How do you rewrite a carry over course and get a B?

2. Did the lecturer FAIL you or did you FAIL the course and wanted to beg your way out?

Many Nigerians die of the same disease. In our case, we neither have the medical facilities or people lack the money to treat or even go for a proper diagnosis.

Also, given that our diet has now been influenced heavily by the West, expect similar cases to rise here too.
