I dont understand all the wahala with these haters. Anyone remember when Anelka, Petit, Overmars, Wrighty and Bergkamp were striking fear into any teams? What about the famous backline with Tony Adams and Seaman? Arsenal will always replace players. Anelka was unbelievable at Arsenal but when he left, his career took a downturn. Everybody shoting Thierry, but was he even a striker when he got to Arsenal? No he wasnt, he was a winger and even though his confidence was at an all time low, the highbury faithful kept faith and look at what he has turned into? Reyes, Van Persie are players of the future and in my mind, they might even need more games to start in to gain their confidence and blossom. As far as am concerned, if Henry wants to go and seat on a bench somewhere, good luck to him all I know is Vieria will be regretting now that he left. If we go ahead to win the CL, he will have to admit publicly that it was a mistake leaving when he did, cos he never thought Arsenal had that extra edge to make it in the champions league. Tonight, all we need going to Spain for the second leg is a two goal cushion and a clean slate. Seems Villareal are very good at getting away goals. They play quite similar to us, fast and short passes. Will be an enjoyable game, dont know if I have the guts to watch it though. |
@ Zahymaka, he he he, www.mepis.org and the actual download site is ftp://ftp.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/mepis/testing/ what you need there is the 6.0 Alpha. For an alpha software this is really something. It is based on the Ubuntu software framework. The new Ubuntu 6.06(http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/flight6?highlight=%28flight%29%7C%286%29) has a new installler called espresso and it installed in less than 30 minutes.Cos I was used to 1 hour for it, I didnt bother to time it, but will time it when I re-install again. Mepis has an advantage over Ubuntu which is that all codecs are pre installed so flash sites, java sites etc work out of the box, also you can play wma files because the win32 codecs are pre installed as well. Amarok just worked without any tweaking unlike in Ubuntu. Since its based on Ubuntu, i wonder what will happen if I did apt-get install ubuntu-desktop? It should work since gnome desktop is in the software repositories. I prefer to use the GDM login window because i can change it to whatever I want. The icon theme am using is from KDE-look.org and is called metagold. Desktop wallpaper is off KDE-look as well. BTW, is anybody using the new firefox? Mine seems to just shut down? Is this a bug or what? I have had these happen on two diff linux machines but its stable on my imac so far |
Snapshot of my new Mepis installtion. Took 3 hours to download the .iso, and unbelievably 15 minutes to install. This on a P2 lappy. I finally got kbfx to work. Upgraded amarok to 1.4 beta as u can see. Will start dling FC5 later today.

I don't use either but you can check out this sites for detailed instructions: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Wine?highlight=%28wine%29 https://wiki.ubuntu.com/InstallingVMWare?action=show&redirect=VmWare+guide%3A+How+to+install+VMware+in+Breezy Just do a search in Ununtu wiki for them. g luck by the way, what program are u trying to run? |
Aint nothing you can say that will stop me getting an intel ibook when it comes out, now if they come out in colours just makes it much more irresistible. If you think by using my imac and getting an ibook someone is shafting me, thats ya own opinion and it is a free world innit? ![]() |
I think he was messing about with Fdisk and somehow dabaru'd his partition table so he needs to reinstall but he aint gat no install disks |
LOL, am a distro-LovePeddler but I seem to have settled down with (K)Ubuntu for now at least but will like to try FC5 for a couple of days next week. |
For all those that will be driving in Lagos this evening, I certainly do not envy you. I learnt that Victoria Island is already a mess and about two years ago, I was stuck till about 12 midnite @ work because the Lagos-Ibadan axis was blocked all the way to Obalende. Just ensure that you have enough petrol and snacks in the car before you start your journey and keep a good CD in your stereo. |
so u have a separate partition for your /home? Thats what I do, so weda am using Kubuntu, Mepis, Suse, Kanotix or whatever, then I still have all my settings intact. |
Was just wondering, is it not possible to upgrade FC4 to FC5? Debian distros can be upgraded using apt. For example, I installed Ubuntu 5.10 and on finishing, changed my repositoris to those for dapper and ran apt-get dist-upgrade in konsole to get my system upgraded to the latest possible system. Can rpm based systems like FC and Suse do this? |
puleeze, I wasnt talking about speed only, enjoying a car is not just about speed, for me its about luxury and dependability and that is one thing Bimmers have in abundance. Sure you can mod the skyline to go fater tht a jet, but can you get the luxury feeling of an M3 or an M5? The solid thunk when you shut the door? The way it handles and there re few cars at that price range that handles like a bimmer- I have owned two bimmers and driven at least 5 different types so I should know. Those cars are built to last, and that is where my analogy comes in. A bimmer retains its value, a skoda does not. Simple. TO know how much value the macs retain, do a froogle or ebay search and compare the value of 3 or 4 year old macs compared to their PC counterparts. While the skyline is a wonderful car, give me a choice between that and an M3, even the old E30 M3, and my choice would be the M3. No thinking about it, no hesitation, but then, that is just me. And hey, who said you cant maintain your bimmer urself? |
@Niggy, like I promised, I upgraded Amarok to 1.4 beta 3 today and it rocks. It now has a built in lyrics manager to download lyrics of your mp3s and also an artist manager which links to wikipedia to give you info on the artist right in amarok. I also noticed a mood thing which will play tunes according to how its been rated. All in all, a wonderful tool. BTW,once my adsl is upgraded next week,am going to dl and install FC5 just to give it a whirl. keep u posted on dat |
Girl, if your guts tell u he is playing you, then accept it, cut yor loss and move on. Am sure you cannot conclusively say he hasnt dated anyone else over the 4 years can you? Better u toss of the 4 years rather than toss of the rest of ur life to some bloke making u damn right unhappy and miserable. |
yeah we are agreed on linux but we go still disagree on top mac sha. Did u know that Ubuntu, Debian, Kubuntu, Suse, Gentoo etc all run on the mac? For me, the mac compared to a PC is like comparing a BMW to a skoda, Mac being the BMW and pc being the skoda. Those things are just too beautiful and for me, it aint all about function alone, form has to play a prominent part I still dont understand how windows will be installed without needing extra drivers and software. I know windows XP CD does not have microsoft office nor macromedia flash or adobe acrobat or Sun Java, so how this is done is still a mystery to me. All windows installs is text pad and paint and some other such mediocre fare. |
You obviously just refuse to understand what am talking about. I specified what Linux distro I was talking about which was specifically Simply Mepis www.mepis;www.mepislovers.com. If you go down the route of Gentoo www.gentoo.org which sounds like what your friends are doing, that is a very geeky way. I am not a geek and I do not understand why I should take ages to do something I can do in minutes. I say once again, that installing Mepis takes 30 minutes and allows me to use my computer while its installing, windows does not. I am talking about full installation and not cloning which is what you are talking about. I currently use (K)ubuntu www.ubuntu.com and its installation takes about averagely an hour to install, so you can see, different distros(flavours) of Linux install in different time durations, especially since they have different methods of installation. |
When person dey final year (weda na kindergaten sef) and im no fit write one sentence in proper English, and just in case anyone wants to criticise me, I think I'd better complete this in proper english, I can then begin to believe and understand when our Universities are being accused of turning out half-baked graduates. Asking someone else a question in an examination hall, is nothing but cheating, I do not understand how people will say that such attitude should be pitied? We as a nation have gotten to the point where we accept any kind of behaviour rather than say the truth ,we dodge around it. Before talking in the exam hall, you know for sure the implications of getting caught. In all honesty, I do sympathize with the OP but he needs to move on now and think of further strategies to make his life better. Like hot_angel said, a lot of people make it in life without education and in any case, you can still go to school again. |
First off, your computer has to have bluetooth enabled. Once you are sure bluetooth is on on your computer, then follow this steps. Since I dont use your kinda phone, I can only give you generic instructions. 1. Go to bluetooth menu on your phone and switch it on. 2. Search for other bluetooth devices and if your computer is enabled, the phone should see it. 3.Once the computer is seen, ask the phone to connect, it should ask you for a passkey, enter any 4 digits, I normally use 1234, go to the computer and enter this same number in the pop-up box. 4.Voila your phone is connected to your computer. 5.Note: there is no need for any line of sight b/w the phone and computer. 6.Go to the item you want to transfer and their should be option to send by bluetooth. 7.That is it. Any one having a Samsung D600 shd pls help out if their is anything wrong in the instructions |
If you have a network then you can do it the way I do mine. I just copy my files to another machine. If you can do this, then you dont need to burn CDs other than that, I dont know any other cost effective way. [s]Something just occurred to me, am going to send you a pm now.[/s] If yu can lay your hands on any Live CD of any linux distro, you can use it to test your laptop to be sure the hardware is okay. |
If you have a CDR/W drive, insert a blank CD or DVD, open your favourite CD burner software, select your documents and other files, burn them to CD. Now if anything happens to your laptop nad you need to re-install, you have your documents on a CD or DVD. Oh and yes, you might try system restore but keep in mind that most times, system restore will tell you it cant go back to the previous state. |
and Gunners go marching on, let the whole of Europe shake in their boots, keeping 8 clean sheets aint a joke and keeping a clean sheet agains R/Madrid and then Juve is not a joke, |
Madrid oh!!! or wetin dem call dem sef, dey shoul go and look for there own ojare, Fab aint going nowhere |
@ okenzo, would be nice if you would post in small letters and not shout(use all caps). what exactly do you want to know about Linux? We have stated quite a number of resources for downloading and using linux as your operating system. |
I have checked all that and they are all intact, it is not muted, thanx. I am scared to take it to the Computer Village, they might tamper with something else in the lappy or probably remove something from it and put an old one or it could get stolen from me at the Village, i learnt they steal a lot in the Village
I dont support going down this route myself. Did you install any new hardware or software? Can you go into your laptop's Bios and check that the speaker are not muted in the Bios? I dont know how to get into the Bios in toshiba but in IBM you have to hold down the F1 button while starting the notebook up. If all that is okay, then if you have your restoration CD, back up your stuff and restore the laptop to factory settings( Note, this will delete and format your hard disk so you need to back up all your stuff.) This should restore your speakers, if not, its a hardware fault. |
are you sure its not muted? check in device manager to see all yur sound devices are alright |
Man, if only we hadnt lost so many points in the beginning of the season, we would certainly had caught Chelsea. Imagine, they couldnt beat ordinary Birmingham, I hope they drop some more points and manyu can catch dem. Meanwhile, we should be looking to catch not just those tottenham yobs but also Liverpool. We are certainly back to our imperial best, and keeping clean sheets without Sol Campbell? Abeg Wenger should keep Campbell off the pitch oh!!! V, how bad is the injury of both Fabregas and Eboue? Are they going to be able to play at Turin? Or is it a ploy to give Juve some false confidence? |
For the newbies who are looking to learn about Linux, here is a site for free ebooks you can access online: http://www.linuxtopia.org/online_books/index.html |
wande:Seems to me as if its a user management issue, is the account you are using an administrator account? |
Could help if you gave the actual error message, have u tried cleaning the surface of your CD? |
Am very sure that laptop left the factory with Win XP cos thats what the specs on Acer's website says. http://us.acer.com/acereuro/page4.do?dau22.oid=11616&UserCtxParam=0&GroupCtxParam=0&dctx1=25&CountryISOCtxParam=US&LanguageISOCtxParam=en&crc=2114447743 You need to confirm iff what you are buying is brand new or second user. |
For the OP(original poster) for how long have you been running XP on this machine-assuming u are running XP? I know for a fact that installing/removing programs plays havoc with your registry on a wondows PC, trojans, viruses etc can also make your system run slowly though running XP on a pentium 2 is really asking for it, but when I was doing the same, what I did was to have my work files on a separate disk and to have windows installed on a different disk and whenever I noticed any bloatware, I just re-installed XP but to be honest, you might be better off running Win 2000 on that machine. |
I just upgraded KDE to 3.5.2 from 3.5.1and also did a dist-upgrade at the same time. When it was finished I noticed a new program dont know if its Kubuntu specific or KDE. Its Katapult and really wonderful. It launches by pressing 'alt'+'space' and then you type in a program and it launches it. I have not had to go to kmenu for some time and its really time saving. http://www.kde-apps.org/content/show.php?content=33985 |
