Just komin across this thread. From all I've heard, child birth is nice xperience for most women {some have decided not have a kids since they can't stand the pains}.

@ consultant
I've heard from many people that pregnant women are always very Hot, please tell us from xperience is this true? {please no offence}
Bad boy, from all that long epistle that was what you saw to ask?? tongue tongue. Yeah, aint nobody as Hot as a pregnant woman cos the body chemistry is going all haywire and contrary to old wives tales, making love during pregnancy CANNOT in any way harm the baby(ies).

ComputersRe: I Think Nigerians Need Macintosh Computers! by jogego(m): 10:33pm On Mar 24, 2006
am not trying to convince you about nothing. Stick to your over bloated dinosaur and live me with my sweet running machine. If you havent used something before, then please do not criticise it. And what about market share? So if the whole world was jumping in a pit, would you follow them?

Abegiii, left matter. If you could tell me, i tried this distro, its another thing, then i wouldnt think u were ignorant but you say it loudly yourself. And saying two years was spent in doing something just goes to show your ignorance. Ubuntu for example comes out with a new version every 6 months. Abeg, just stop spouting rubbish about stuff you don't know.

And if you can maintain a windows machine without crashing, then you have to be in the minority in this world. It is aknown fact, that windows crashes like no mans business.

On ur thinkpad everything works out of the box? So you didnt install any driver for a printer? a scanner? a digital camera? PULEEEZE. You definitely have never installed an windows b4.

There are few people who use linux as their main os who are not nerds who had a choice.

The grandma's and grandpas out there who gamely use some GUI based version of linux which attempts to give a Windows look and feel to the OS so that people can pretend they are still using windows had no choice because their misguided grandson or granddaughter thought it would be a great experiment to have nana use linux and prove to the world that anyone could use it.
What do you call a nerd anyhow? Am an accountant by profession and if I can use Linux anybody can. You seem to think that linux is the terminal but then, have you ever tried using KDE? Most of the things that Vista is running after have been in other Oses such as linux and Mac for ages. Does Microsoft have anything resembling Kompose(linux), expose(apple) or Sherlock and Beagle search? Does windows come with widgets such as dashboard?

Abeg, go try linux and stop arguing outta ya hat ,man.

And yes, If I was to give my mum a computer what would I instal on it? Probably Ubuntu or PC linux. Why? Cos I will not be around to be trouble shooting it for her all the time. No crashes, no hanging, no blue screens.
ComputersRe: I Think Nigerians Need Macintosh Computers! by jogego(m): 10:16pm On Mar 24, 2006
see, when people argue ignorantly, then I cant but laugh. The fact that you tried Linux donkey years ago, does not make you an expert on it. How long does it take you to install a fully functional XP machine, with MS office, Anti virus, and all drivers for your hardware? Am sure you spend minimum of 3 or 4 hours doing that. I dont even want to remember how many nights sleep I lost cos of the useless blue screen.

Now, how long does it take me to install Mepis or kanotix? Which by the way comes with all the software I need, Open office, Firefox, Evolution/Thunderbird, Gaim, Gimp? Less than 30 minutes thats how long. Try installing a fully functional windows machine in 30 minutes. And am not talking of installing on a speed demon either, am talking of a 366MHZ machine, printer, scanners, digital camera all work out of the box without any tweaking.

Fine, you can do lots of things with windows but how many times do you need to reinsall it? How many times are you afraid to open an attachment cos it might be a virus? I open any mail attachment without any fear of viruses.

Keep your windows my dear fellow, as for me, if am not on my Mac, am on linux.

ComputersRe: I Think Nigerians Need Macintosh Computers! by jogego(m): 9:17pm On Mar 24, 2006
The world of viruses and trojans. Sony have a crap reputation for customer service and dependability. I wouldnt touch thier computers with a long pole.

The Acer ferrari still runs Windoze dont it? And once again the much acclaimed and expected Vista has been put off again till 2007, and am sure so they can see what will come in the next Mac OS Leopard and copy it, which is what they are good at doing anyhow.

If you really wanna enjoy using your computer, install Linux on it. If you can afford it, buy an apple.

i don't think i will put me off wink thanks tho wink

Also if u don't mind, how did u feel when she was moving inside u?
i'm sure it was a wonderful feeling wink
i think i'm going to be happy all through my 9 months wink wink wink
and i'll try to look my best. u know i heard and saw some with my eyes that most women are ugly when they are pregant.
While beauty might be in the eyes of the beholder, I dont agree that pregnant women are ugly. Pregnant women have this glow about them, not only are they more beautiful( except maybe if they are sick during pregnancy) but pregnancy also makes women very very Hot in my experience.

My wife was so incredibly sexy and pretty and beautiful when she was pregnant, and feeling my baby moving while in her tummy was such a feeling that its practically impossible to explain it.

Labour was a wonderful experience. I was there right from the beginning till my son was born. Men need to experience what labour is like if not for anything other than to ensure that their wife doesnt go thru it too much(one word- birth control). Anyhow, seeing my son come out was such a wonderful experience. Every man should go thru it at least once.

As far as I know, I have used the three most popular OSes, Mac OSX, Windows from 3.1 up to XP, and various distros of Linux. Mac OS works predominantly on Apple hardware, and the fact that they have such a tight control on their hardware is the major reason that they have such a cult following.

Now, while I was in Nigeria, I used windows cos it was the only thing available to me, albeit they were all pirated copies. Like someone said, if Nigerians had to pay for their OSes and software generally, practically everybody would go linux in Nigeria. When i started using linux, it was cos I could not afford to buy the M$ software. Just too damn expensive.

For the past two years I have been using different flavours of Linux and once in a while M$ XP though I find that use the XP partition less and less.

I had liked the design of the apple computers since the imac and ibook first came out in 1999. The transluscent case was a thing of beauty to behold. This year, I decided to buy an imac just to see how the apple really is and damn is that thing easy to use. Fine it might be expensive but when you drive a toyota and drive a BMW or Jaguar, the different is clear as hell. It is the same way with using an apple compared to a Pc.

My Imac runs OSX and as of today, I have not switched it off for the past three weeks. It works constantly and doesnt hang up. Try that with a PC. It is connected to the net 24-7 and I dont have any virus or trojan problem. Try connecting a PC to the net for 24 hours without any security update and anti virus.

Ultimately, it is a matter of choice but I understand that in Naija, macs are really not feasible. Here in the UK, i can get second hand ones but am looking at getting one of the new intel ibooks when it comes out. Apple have a finance option and I will exercise that option to buy it. Now, the fact that (K)Ubuntu works perfectly on apple hardware with wireless, bluetooth, suspend etc all working is another attraction though I really do not think I would leave the mac's beautiful interface.

Currently, I have one Imac, three laptops all running Linux with a 3GB partition for xp on my main laptop. The only reason i keep this is so as to be able to test web pages am building in internet explorer.

OMG, I know that area very well, I used to work on the Marina and loved going shopping around that area. If I recollect rightly, market street is very close to that building. It is such a pity that we dont have no maintenance culture in Naija.

How old the building is is not material in my opinion, majority of residential buildings in London are minimum of a 100 years old and still going strong.
ComputersRe: Mac Running Windows by jogego(m): 11:51pm On Mar 21, 2006
The G4 is slow compared to modern machines and cos the G5 couldnt be fitted into a laptop forms some of the reason apple went for intel. If am going to buy the ibook, I will definitely buy an intel one, but since no one knows for sure when it will come out, I might get an X24 for the time being. I dont know why but I cant relate with a laptop with a screen wider than 14". I infact prefer ultra portables with 12.1" cos portability is very important for me. I hardly use my notebook on a desk so it has to be really easy to carry
ComputersRe: Laptop Purchase Advice Needed by jogego(m): 4:11pm On Mar 21, 2006
after losing one toshiba battery, three dell batteries and two IBM batteries, I should know better shouldnt I? I know the right thing to do but even as am typing, my battery is fixed in my laptop, and das Y i can barely get an hour out of it. I would buy another one but since am buying another laptop soon, I cant really be bothered. IBMs might not be popular cos they are expensive compared with other brands.

For all those using KDE out there, has anyone tried Kompose? It works just like Expose on Mac OSX. Give it a shot.

THanks for unlimited broadband, wink, I stream it 24 hours a day man. Hope they can keep it free for long. Cos its the only one i know that works easily on any format. It works perfecly on both my mac and my linux laptop and like you said, there are some new discoveries. Yesterday I listened to the Jazz version of "my boo" didnt even know there was a jazz version and had never heard the name of the group before either. Much better than yahoo launch music in my opinion.
ComputersRe: Linux or Windows Operating System? by jogego(m): 12:50pm On Mar 21, 2006
If the kernel you are using is from 2.6.12 upwards, your flash disk should automount. Suse 10.1 and Ubuntu Dapper drake actually show a pop-up window just like windows when you plug in a new hardware asking what you want to do with the hardware.

But to be honest, in all the distros I have used, from Mepis to Suse,to Kanotix,Knoppix,(K)ubuntu, and even Xandros, when I plug in a flash drive, it is mounted and ready for me to use immediately.

Home/backyard networking isn't really good enough in today's world. You need real experience :S
I've been looking as well but I don't have any official experience yet (I have CCNA though smiley)

I don't personally like keynote, I just don't seem to be able to make anything look remotely professional out of it (it all looks like it was made by a 5 year old)
hey, are you sure it wasnt done by a 5 year old? tongue. I cant believe you dont like the macs. Yeah they are pretty expensive but the imac am using I got second hand off ebay. Its actually the first mac i ever used and its pretty fly. Like I said am looking at getting an ultraportable laptop soon and am stuck in between getting one of the IBM thinkpad X series second hand or getting an Intel Ibook when it comes out. Decisions, decisions.

Definitely getting a Mac at some point in the near future. The Macbook Pro is crazy expensive so I'll probably get a Mac mini. Always wanted to, so narf and blanka's work just pushed me over the edge. They are beautiful pieces of hardware. There's some pretty interesting Mac-only software out there too. I hear Keynote (presentation software a la Powerpoint) rocks!

@jogego: You're in IT right? I live in Manchester, thinking of moving to London in summer for about half a year. I'm into networks/security. Don't have much "official" experience. I've been playing with my home network for a couple of years now. Help? huh
Y do u say am into IT? Believe it or not, am actually an accountant. Why ido you want to live the peace of manchester for London's madness? Am personally looking into moving out of london sometime b4 summer, its a crazily expensive city to live in

i use a Toshiba PIII 500 mhz with 192 mb of ram and it serves me because i have regular NEPA. I wont recommend an IBM for you because of their think pad experinment which was a huge failure. Most second hand laptops have battery life that can go for only 90 minutes so you be careful. Another thing to look out for is the storage capacity and the clarity of the screen.

I have never really liked a dell and its not much different from our zinox. For second hand laptops and that is what your price range can get you. Go for compaq or toshiba as they are the tested and proven brands. Buy a spare battery if you can; better still have someone bring in the second hand from the US for you because its cheaper there.
What thinkpad experiment? IBM laptops are called Thinkpads. I am using my second IBM thinkpad so far. I bought each one second hand. COmpared to the Toshiba I bought for new, they are miles ahead. IBM laptops are the rolls royce of laptops. The engineering is something to die for. I am thinking of getting an ultra portable IBM now, maybe the X24 or the X30. IBMs go regularly for over £1500 new and for just reason. Researh about IBM thinkpads on this forum http://forum.thinkpads.com/index.php

For battery life however, you cant do much better than Apple notebooks which will give you up to 4 or more hours of battery life. If your battery life is less than 2 hours on any modern laptop, you definitely have a bad battery.

Another tip for keeping battery life as long as possible, do not use your laptop with the battery and the power source on all the time. It decrease the battery life. Also try to regularly discharge the battery by using it down competely and charging it up again.

@ Seun, how much is that in ££?
ComputersRe: Linux or Windows Operating System? by jogego(m): 6:13pm On Mar 20, 2006
@ Niggy, the screenshots are here.

TO be honest, I have only used multiple Cd distro once which was Suse, if Fedora had a live CD option, i would give it a shot, but for now, my Dapper drake rocks.
